The Burden is a unique examination of climate change through the lens of the United States' massive use of fossil fuels. The film's uniqueness lies in its ability to stay focused on the subject without pandering or preaching to the choir. The argument is simple: the U. S. Dept. Of Defense--the largest institutional consumer of oil in the world-- requires a lot of money, and bodies, to protect its fossil fuel interests around the globe and to regulate costs back home at the pump where 20% of the oil in the world is consumed. Climate change is a national security risk. So we should try to fix it.
