Ethiopia: Land of Extremes

'Wildest Africa' from personal opinion is one of the best and most comprehensive looks at African wildlife for any series focusing solely on it.. Yet it is also overlooked and under-viewed and it doesn't deserve that treatment, that it may not be ground-breaking as such does not matter. That it is of high quality in all departments throughout all thirteen episodes mattered much more to me and that is the case in the whole of 'Wildest Africa'.

"Ethiopia: Land of Extremes" was a more than ideal way to end 'Wildest Africa', living up to high expectations. Like the title of the episode suggests, there are a lot of extremes here, like with all the measurements of the Ethiopian highlands, and they were fascinating in themselves. Like the rest of 'Wildest Adrica', there is a huge amount of information in "Ethiopia: Land of Extremes" but again like all the episodes it didn't feel like too much information to me, which is a potential danger with something that has a lot of content.

The episode looks as with the previous episodes wonderful. It was great to see a spectacular location such as the Ethiopian highlands filmed so intimately and in a way that shows its full beauty without any sugar-coating. The music is dynamic without being overwrought.

Colin Salmon narrates with real engagement with the material, bringing the right amount of enthusiasm and sincerity to it. The information itself is informative (knew about things like what the highlands are coined, "Roof of Africa" but was less familiar with everything regarding the main dome) but doesn't come over as too academic, with a good and successful attempt in making the information accessible and emotionally investable.

A great way to end. Really well worth catching. 9/10
