Well props to the writers.

For whatever reason, the decision was made to take the series up to a new level near the close of this, the 4th season.

(Maybe the ratings were wobbly? Maybe the demographics were tipping the wrong way? Maybe someone noticed, as this reviewer did, that the double episode with Munroe based on the "Nuremberg Trial" theme was actually a low point?)

In any case, pursuing a theme that has worked well for the show in the past -- children and childbirth -- I can say that this episode marks a sharp left turn for the show.

This is no longer the same GRIMM you have come to know from Seasons 1, 2, or 3. There is a new level of crazy here, almost as though the writers used a magical potion to take every plot arc from every soap opera produced since the dawn of TV, pour them all into a large glass, and swallow them down before starting this script.

Yes, I recommend the episode, the writing is sharp, the acting is great (Claire Coffee steals scenes -- AGAIN!) and the viewer will quickly come to echo the sentiments of Captain Renard, quoted above, that it almost seems like things cannot get any crazier.

But of course they do.

The "word on the street" is that this in fact episode marks the demarcation point for the launch of a refurbished GRIMM next year (confirmed by the studio as "renewed" as this review is penned).
