No K-Pop but this isn't the worst kids show.
Jade24018 April 2015
I kept on seeing commercials for this show on Comcast On Demand, heard the line "girls form band over their love of K-Pop", and thought why not.

FIRST OFF: This is not a K-Pop show, nor does it feature K-Pop specifically. One of the main characters may be Korean and dress in typical cutesy Otaku clothing but that is the end of it. There is also no mention of K-Pop at all in the show or by the characters. Advertisement's should stop mentioning K-Pop with this show immediately, that is false advertisement.

Now that you've dropped the hope of seeing anything K-pop related, this isn't that bad of a show. Keep in mind this is a show catered to young kids - tweens who enjoy musical performances. Think of a mash-up of Zoey 101 & iCarly like characters and situations with sprinkles of Victorious- like stage performances.

First episode was . . . interesting. Compared to other new Nick shows, the pilot wasn't terrible but it didn't wow me. Sun Hi and Caleb seemed like caricatures more than actual people. There was a lot more diversity than I expected coming from a Nick show but as others noted, there is no Asian male characters (of the episodes I've seen so far). It was way more colorful than I expected. It is also a pre-dominantly female cast with one male main character.

After the pilot, we got to see more relatable personalities from the main characters; Corki is straight-laced student who is pressured by her father to perform well in everything academic but finds an outlet with the girls. Sun Hi is an eccentric girl proving to herself and her parents that she isn't a disappointment just because she'd rather pursue the arts than academics. Jodi is a loyal and talented fashionista and dancer that seems to mellow out Sun Hi's loud personality.

Overall, the show isn't that bad compared to other Nick/Disney shows, the music is decent as well. Just don't expect to hear anything other than Pop. The set itself and the characters' clothing might be too colorful for a lot of people but you'll get used to it. The characters outfits are a lot more louder than their actual personalities (excluding Sun Hi), so don't be discouraged at first sight. The situations the girls get into are definitely on the exaggerated, slightly ridiculous side but not as outrageous as other kids shows (Dog with a Blog, etc.) Also, the episodes seem to always end on a cliffhanger (if you can call it that) and end abruptly.

So if you want a realistic show with life-lessons aimed towards kids, this isn't the show for you. Watch Girl Meets World for that! If your kid is bored, likes Pop, and wants to be slightly entertained, this is your show.

Beautiful girls, decent music
mxb200118 January 2017
I've watched the series twice now (both seasons) and on the plus side I find the female cast extremely attractive and the music generally pleasant and catchy. On the downside a few of the scripts seem to have been written by high school dropouts whose command of the English language is highly questionable. I also applaud the casting of three oriental ladies as the stars, it's not very common. The music is highly produced so it is hard to ascertain what vocal skills they possess but I get the impression they are above average. Another positive element I should mention is that the characters are free to date other characters regardless of their ancestry. It sets a fine example of tolerance which seems to be rather lacking elsewhere.

It's not terrible, but it's far from even acceptable
midgetgangeva21 June 2015
I was originally drawn to the show due to its being advertised as relating to K-Pop. After beginning watching it, I soon realized the only relation it has to K-Pop is the foundation of the show (albeit a very tiny foundation) and the source of around 3 posters in the three girls' bedroom. This I decided to accept with disappointment, and trudged on in giving the show a chance.

I only managed to watch the first season, because I couldn't bear to continue the atrocity.

To begin with, the main character, Sun Hi, is a rude, self-absorbed, absolutely unintelligent girl. I understand this is a tween show, but none of the tween shows I grew up with, such as Zoey 101, iCarly, and Victorious had such terrible role models as their main characters. Corki and Jodi are great, but Sun Hi's treatment of them is fueled by her constant need to shine and be the star of the show. This brings out Sun Hi as a terrible model of a friend. My own mother criticized my admiration of Carly from iCarly thinking she was obnoxious. Carly is an angel compared to Sun Hi's character.

I gave the dialogue and acting some leeway considering it's a tween show following in the footsteps of iCarly and Victorious. I also understand that in one season, character development is not something to be hoping for, but to be fair, iCarly and Victorious were much less disastrous.

I'm all for girl power, it's not a bad thing. But the estrogen and female hierarchy is overpowering in this show. Half of it is the three main girls competing with the senior cheer squad. There are two prominent male characters, but they're both so minor and operate as clowns for laughs. They don't have to be Asian (although that would certainly help the racism prominent in the US), but the male roles should, forgive me for a lack of better words, have a bigger role in the show.

Lastly, I'll admit, the songs are catchy and pretty good. And the choreography is also reasonable and acceptable. This is why I gave the show 4 stars, and not 1 or 2.

In conclusion, although the show has a select few positive attributes, it serves as a horrible model for teenagers, and has more than a few things to be fixed or at least alleviated.

Why is having a normal sexually functioning Asian male on screen so damn hard for American media?
lilililililili16 April 2015
I completely disagree with "Leah Mckenzie" 's review. For a person not into Kpop, "she" sure writes a lot on a completely unknown and unpopular Kpop show, ranting about how racism doesn't exist and how anyone who dare to talk about it is the racist.

Pretty much the worse show I have ever seen. In THE ONE place, a show about Kpop, where they could have Asian males in it without being completely sexless, they manage to do away with it. I am actually very IMPRESSED how they managed to pull this off, without anyone pointing out how ridiculous this is.

Why is white Hollywood so averse to having any Asian males on screen, except in extremely clichéd and stereotyped roles? I have no idea. Why is having a normal sexually functioning Asian male on screen so damn hard for American media?

---

Notice how the two reviews saying "there is no racism" or "racism is overblown" or "anyone who complain about racism is racist themselves" are all registered within a week and never have a single review in the past.

While the only guy talking about how this IS an example of racism (the main guy behind this show, Thomas Lynch, literally said in no unclear terms "he will never have an Asian guy on his show") has a 10 year account and tons of past reviews.

Terrible Example of K-Pop Culture
moritsuna28 April 2015
50% of ALL K-pop artists are MALE. Why is it that there are no Asian males at all on this show? Let us stop the stereotyping of Asian culture right now. This is another typical Hollywood white-washing of Asian culture- Bad music- bad story- and White Males are the only available love interests for the Asian Females. This needs to stop now.

Look at this http://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/2y6qk6/tv_producer_asian _guys_in_my_show_not_gonna_happen/

The producer of this show said that there will never be a Korean male in this show about Korean music. Just imagine that for any other type of genre of music. This would be equivalent of making a show celebrating Cinco de mayo without any Hispanic actors, like a bollywood movie with no Indian actors, like a British TV series without any Brits. This is wrong and this type of racism needs to stop NOW.

This show is pretty adorable!
trojanhorsezero22 December 2019
I like this show. The reasons why this is so is because of the cute cast of characters. Most notably, Megan Lee who plays Sun Hi song. My other favorite is Corki played by Erika Tham, and also Caleb Davis played by Dale Whibley. I like the music, it's really cute, catchy, and fun. The acting is also nice, fun, peppy, and even well-done. I also like the vibrant, colorful set pieces. One thing I don't like about the show is the treatment of the male characters. Now, I'm not a misogynist and I understand this show centers around the three main girls, fashion, etcetera, but there are scenes where Caleb gets into pretty embarrassing, yet humiliating situations. I know he's the comedy relief of the heroes, but still. In conclusion, the show is is pretty awesome. That and it's not, I repeat NOT owned by Nickelodeon/Viacom. If you're looking for a fun, good comedy and drama show about music, Make It Pop is one of the many tickets.

Is this show really K-pop?
kevinlee-215-41313415 April 2015
Short answer: no. The K-pop culture differs immensely to what it is shown to be in the show.

Why would Nickelodeon would make a show select people would want to watch? The thing is, this show wouldn't appeal to people who are already heavily into the K-pop culture but would rather introduce people to K-pop. But there is another ulterior motive, which is to satisfy the producer's idea of a WMAF dominated society. There was some news that flew by not long ago when a suggestion about Asian men in the show was laughed off by the racist producer, and he was mocked when it was suggested by the producer that even if there were Asian men, they were to be a joke character equivalent to Oppa Gangnam Style.

Nowhere in ticklegear's review was it mentioned that white men in the show were the problem, but another review suggested otherwise. The ignorance of this user is beyond words and they pretend that issues that do not concern them do not exist. What ticklegear really meant to say was the show misrepresents the K-pop culture. The problem here is not that there is a white male in the show. The problem is that Asian males are again, not represented at all in a culture where 50% of the K-pop bands are male. Obviously when ticklegear said Asians, they did not mean the females. They are already represented in the show. Before commenting on another reviewer's review, it would be wise to do research. The producer is in fact, racist.

Asian women are again, hypersexualised, and the show is there to satisfy the producers fantasy of a WMAF dominated society.

As a last note, Leah, I suggest you do not downplay real issues people face.

This show does not represent K-pop culture in any way, which is vastly different to what it is shown to be in.

The Claim of Racism is way overblown and Show has potential
drgripe-053896 April 2015
Introducing Kpop to a wider audience on Nick is a great idea. Showing the similarities if people from different cultures is the first step in understanding. My daughter is Autistic and has mixed ethnic heritage. She has no problems with this and I am happy she shows interest.

I have no idea if there will or will not be Korean males in future episodes. To judge this from ONE episode is a bit of an over reaction and will only cause a situation where LESS understanding of people of different ethnic backgrounds will occur.

The first episode shaped up well. Given that a cast can take 5 or more episodes to develop characters and create the synergy between characters this was fairly good from the first episode. It has strong potential for developing an audience that will appreciate it going forward.I hope this is just the beginning of more multi-cultural shows from Nick in the future. So far I am pleased and My Daughter is looking forward to the next episode.

Enjoyable high school sitcom musical with Asian influence
BrianDanaCamp3 May 2015
Unlike the eleven previous reviewers here, I've actually watched every episode of "Make It Pop" and waited till the first season was over before sitting down to write a review. I came to this series as a fan of J-pop (Japanese pop music) in the hope that I might finally find something on American TV that captures the exuberant musical spirit of groups like Morning Musume and other Hello! Project all-girl acts. I was pleased to see that the three main female characters here were either Asian or Asian-American, surely a first for a series like this. I was even more pleased to find two complete musical numbers in every episode. With one exception, they all seemed to be original songs created for the series, mostly generic upbeat pop songs about teen life, often with a motivational theme—just like Hello! Project songs. There was an occasional love song and even a break-up ballad at one point as well. I generally enjoyed the songs and found the dancing that went along with them quite a joy to watch and delightfully choreographed. All three of the actresses playing the lead roles—Megan Lee (Sun Hi), Louriza Tronco (Jodi), Erika Tham (Corki)—are quite talented and have lovely voices and excellent dance skills.

One aspect of the show that I found most admirable was the emphasis on the girls' camaraderie. They meet as roommates in the first episode and become solid friends in short order. When they have problems, they share them and talk them over with each other. While two of them acquire boyfriends in the course of the series, those relationships never jeopardize or overshadow their friendships with each other. The girls have distinctly different personalities and come from different ethnic backgrounds as well. Sun Hi, who is presumably Korean-American, is the constantly energized narcissist, obsessed with selfies, blogging and recording her every move. Such a personality could get obnoxious really quick, but Megan Lee keeps it funny and endearing at all times. Lee not only sings and dances well, but she's great at comedy, both verbal and physical. Jodi (who I'm guessing is Filipino) is the artistic one, an aspiring fashion designer who has the most developed empathetic imagination among the three. She keeps them all grounded throughout. Corki is a daddy's girl, daughter of a Chinese billionaire from Beijing, and constantly stressed by the need to conform to her father's image of her while also trying to spread her wings in this new environment and with new friends who encourage her to express her talents. At no point are they under any pressure to be sexy, which takes quite a burden off these young actresses and results in more relaxed performances.

A fourth main character is Caleb (Dale Whibley), a tall, lanky, blond white boy who acts as a DJ after hours and composes beats and songs and quickly becomes the girls' musical collaborator. He uses his after-school job at a roller rink to set up concerts for the girls once they form their act and he essentially functions as their manager/producer, quite a big leap for someone who starts out so physically clumsy and socially awkward in the show. Jodi sees what a good guy he is at heart and she bonds with him over their equally inspired creative drives and the two become an item before the season is over. Their romantic scenes are handled with supreme taste and sensitivity.

There are four other significant supporting characters and all are treated a little too cartoonishly throughout, although they all have moments as the series progresses where they get to display their human sides. These four are: Jared, an egotistical jock who falls for Corki; Valerie, a "mean girl" senior and head cheerleader who constantly taunts the three lead girls; Mr. Stark, a drama teacher, with the emphasis on drama, who has dreams of show biz success for himself; and Ms. Diona, a hard-nosed principal with an agenda of her own who seems curiously unconcerned with the aspirations of her students. The acting is good, but I wish the characterizations had been a little softened and more nuanced.

There seems to be a lot of uproar in the comments and message board here about the lack of any major Asian male character among the student body in the show. (There are two adult Asian males who make appearances, including Corki's father.) Yes, it would have been nice to see at least one of the girls (Sun Hi, perhaps) link up with an Asian male friend and I don't know why the producers chose not to pursue that casting path. (There is a post in the message board that offers a behind-the-scenes account that's pretty damning—if true.) When Sun Hi finally gets a male buddy in the last few episodes, he's at least non-white (black). But I have to confess that I identified with Caleb's character, who reminded me of myself at that age when I was in a multiracial performing arts-centered high school. And I certainly would have gravitated to someone like Jodi back then. And having been immersed in the world of J-pop girl groups for the last decade, I tend to be quite accustomed to an Asian pop music universe with little on-camera male participation—which is exactly how the Asian male fans of Morning Musume and AKB48 seem to prefer it! Go figure.

A second season of "Make It Pop" will soon be upon us and I hope they keep the focus on characters and musical numbers rather than contrived plots and slapstick mishaps. And perhaps they'll introduce an Asian male character or two. I also hope they issue a soundtrack CD.

A Kpop show without Korean/Asian males is like a show about hip hop without Black males
bster-5086417 April 2015
A Kpop show without Korean/Asian males is like a Hip hop show without Black males.

How ridiculous would it be if Nickelodeon created a Hip Hop show for kids, and there was 0 black males on it?

I didn't even know how they get away with such a clean and obvious example of discrimination against Asian males. Nobody at any point in the top management decision processes was like

"Hey, this is wrong. Why are we discriminating against Asian males so much? Can we really attribute the absolute invisibility of Asian males in media to lack of talent, or is it institutionalized discrimination?"

or even if racism is intrinsically built into those guys,

"Hey, Thomas, I know you are like 'I will never have an Asian guy on my show', and 'I know we want to perpetuate fetishism on Asian females, permanently typecast the whole race as feminine', but this is getting too obvious. People are going to say something. They are going to point this out."

Hollywood, when can you stop being so bigoted so that we can move on into the 21st century?

Not a Kpop show
frzsk14 May 2015
I'm not sure where all those people got that this was a kpop show, but no this isn't one. This is a show about 4 high school students that want to make it in the pop business.

Megan Lee portrays a Korean student that wants to become famous. Sure, she is Korean, but no this is not about Kpop.

I'm rating this 10 out of 10 because there's lots of people rating this lower than it should be since they think that it's about Kpop. My true rating would be around 7-8.

The show shows a bit of character growth and Sun Hi's quirkiness can makes the show different yet fun.

You can even hear from one of the artists that it's only a Kpop inspired show. Not a show about Kpop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK7w88h5BCQ

Enjoyable light-hearted show
charmd-647575 May 2015
I have been reading the reviews and think what? This is a kids show. It's light hearted fun with some really good voices. They go to extremes with the personality of the characters, but that makes it more interesting. My 12yo niece loves this show and I enjoy watching it with her. I find the pressure on Corki from her highly successful father a reflection of what Japanese culture would be like. I'm not sure about Chinese.

I don't find this show one bit raciest if anything it's very multicultural. I think younger kids will find it a show to enjoy because they seem to love musicals. Young girls will probably imagine they are pop stars, just as young boys imagine they are spider-man or whatever.

Give the show a break and just go along with the fun.

This show makes me wanna hurl
pompomjd1 May 2015
I hate this show. My sister and I watched the first episode because she follows Megan Lee (the person who plays the main character). Ughhh how can I even start about how utterly gag inducing this is. The jokes are cheesy, the acting is absolutely horrendous.

I'm kind of too old to be watching children's shows, but sometimes I do enjoy watching like... old re-runs of Drake and Josh. I feel so bad for what happened to nickelodeon since the good old' days. This cannot, on any level, compare to Drake and Josh, Sam and Cat, Victorious. It can't even compare to some of the shows I don't really like all that much, like ANT farm, or Jessie. It's literally 20 minutes of torture. If you make your children watch this, be prepared for them to start crying, although if I were you, I would turn it to any other channel.

It's been mentioned, but the theme song makes me wanna stab my ears. Excuse the graphicness. It's so.... not catchy, and doesn't make you want to continue watching whatsoever, so Idk what the people who wrote it were thinking.

I'm literally writing this review as I am still watching it, because I need to distract myself from this misery. I would rather rant about how gross this show is to random people than actually watch it. I wish I could rate it -10000000. I also feel sorry for anyone involved in this.

And yes, I do agree that it is really stupid to make a K-pop inspired show thing and then not even bother to include Asian males.

It's not worth watching. Click away.

Racist Allegations out of Proportion.. until you watch it
somecasualreflections16 April 2015
I wanted to be fair and avoid calling out a show that I had never seen before, so I sat down and gave it a chance before making this. Admittedly, watching this show became increasingly difficult as I found the criticisms to be true with every scene. I don't know if this counts as a spoiler, but I cringed a little as the only male leads that were given any dialogue were White. Surprisingly, I was able to spot an Asian male in the background at one point, and when I say spot, I mean it was basically a Where's-Waldo scenario of finding this guy in one crowd of one scene.

"Resist the temptation to review on other reviews or features visible on the page."

This is one of the guidelines for posting reviews on IMDb. It's actually kind of funny that of the four reviews here, one review has about 2-3 sentences dedicated to reviewing the actual show and an entire paper dedicated to responding to ticklegear's review of the show. Not that past credentials matter, but of the two nay-sayers to any racism, their total experience on IMDb is of reviewing this one show with a combined membership time of about 3 weeks. Interestingly, the bitter "racist" ticklegear has been on IMDb for about 9 years and written 113 reviews of various movies and shows. It's a really tough call on who seems to have an agenda and who's the objective, experienced reviewer, so I'll leave that up to those reading this.

In all honesty though, I recommend this show be given at least one viewing. It's very difficult to appreciate the complete absence of Asian males without watching the show one time. Every male character that is introduced: white guy, every scene that has an undertone of sexual attraction: white guy, the main back up dancers that aren't part of the mosh-pit scenes: to be fair, there was a white guy and a black guy, so at least not everyone is being excluded.

Racist Producer, Racist Show
ktliu-776144 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Bottom line, I am not supporting this show because the producer of this film has pitched this show said to a Canadian media company and my friend( who is an employee there at the time and also an Asian male ) asked him are there going to be any Asian guys, to which this producer replied, " Asian guy in my show? Not gonna happen!!".

Read this reddit article: http://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/2y6qk6/tv_producer_asian _guys_in_my_show_not_gonna_happen/

This goes to show you how racist these producers are in this industry. As an Asian male myself I am extremely offended by the marketing materials already because it obviously just portrays Asian girls lusting over the white guy which is not only stereotypical, but perpetuates stereotypes that divide the Asian community by purposefully including Asian women and purposefully excluding Asian males as if we are non-existent. It doesn't stay true to Kpop at all, in which the industry consist of 50% Asian MALES. I would give this -10 stars if I could but there isn't that option here. This show truly disgusts me.

One of Nickelodeons best...good but could be legendary...
antenehtseg9 March 2016
I wanted to review this show ever since season 1 of Make it pop finished airing. However, in order to provide an in depth analysis I decided to wait until the second confirmed season also concluded. Thus far it's easy to say that Make it Pop definitely improved their show by including what much of the show really lacked (Asian guys, drama, better music, character development etc.

Well at first I was a bit disappointed that Nick Canon in particular would create such a "parodist" show of the already exemplary KPop industry. I was astonished of how much shade KPop fans were throwing at the show. Heck! They were even about to start a potentially brutal petition to prevent the show from airing! But I don't blame them. I wasn't really impressed by the trailer...it seemed mediocre at best with "unprofessional" acting, a sterile show title "Make it Pop" (yes I know it was originally supposed to be named "The Drop" but it still was unoriginal just like any other show), the extreme immature feminine vibe, and the racial bias that can already be inferred from the trailer. Season 1, unfortunately wasn't all that wonderful to watch— it was pretty bland, with a huge lack of creativity, and not enough serious drama you would endure at a high school. The only thing that I thought was unique was the diversity between the three girls ethnicities. Sun Hi who was Korean, Jodi who was Indonesian and Corki who was Chinese- Malaysian. Somehow it felt like the girls would be constantly be manipulated by the guys in the show...but that's probably just me.

Season 2 was somewhat of a different story with everything elevated from the characters level of maturity, to the relationships, music you name it! I admired how much growth each of the girls gained, Sun Hi learned to listen more and grew significantly more compassionate; Jodi learned to be more confident, and Corki grew more apathetic. You get a daily dose of what hardships each of the characters had to endure and how it made them each a better person. Personally I thought it would be better to get more involvement with Caleb, he's so important in the band and his talents aren't all that much notably. If it weren't for his and Jodi's relationship I would have forgotten that he was a part of the show! I wish he would sing or dance, or bring something fresh to the table. It's quite the shame that Valarie will not likely be on the show, she did have that humor that would always crack me up. We got just the right amount of her through out the series. Lastly, I was upset that John-Alan Slachta got this real humane talents degraded, Jared seemed so one-dimensional and selfish— he would have been such a great addition if he was a heartthrob and could sing while playing a guitar...he's so talented!

In conclusion, although I 110% agree with the last comment about Asian men (really Thomas Lynch!), do give this show a chance it has so much potential. Although this show is more of a lateral footstep, it the best Nickelodeon got. I guarantee you Nick will lose a majority of its viewers if the this show is canceled. The channel is already a train wreck right now.

Actor/Actress selection bias
psion_biz14 May 2015
For one, this is not even close to what was expected. I just watched to see what the fuss was about from social media. I can see that it is related to K-pop at the weakest level.

The director/producers want to maintain the White Man Asian Woman dominance. 'the producer said "Nope! Never! Asian guys in my show, not gonna happen!", while everyone else–albeit uncomfortably–laughed it off. Come on now, it's a show about Korean pop. Half the artists from the K-pop industry are Asian men.'

As mentioned by other reviewers, it seems like the producers are perpetuating the White Man Asian Woman fetish/fantasy.

The acting and everything else seems appropriate for the target demographic. This is the only good part of this series. Its age appropriate and that it hits the target demographic.

Its blatantly racist
the_batman-0010623 July 2015
I too watch the entire season, I was binge watching after I saw one of the episodes aired while I was waiting at a clinic. Anyway I would like to play as the devil's advocate and say that it's still is pretty much racist. The show revolves around 3 Asian female leads and one white guy. Sure they added a black guy later in the series but his role isn't given much of an impact like the white male lead. There's also a Asian guy I've seen in the background several times but that's about it. Unless you count Corki's dad but even so he's not a male lead. Still wish there was more diversity in the show like maybe adding a good looking Hispanic guy in the mix? This is the 21st century right? Now Brian camp, I'm assuming you're a white guy since apparently you fail to see the outrage other folks can plainly see. First off, for the sake of political correctness, Jodi is a Filipina not a Filipino, she's a chick not a dude. Despite the show being influenced by Jpop/Kpop there's no Asian male lead. James Lynch, the show's producer, said so himself that he would never ever add an Asian male lead. So it begs the question why? I mean if you over looked everything about the show and focus solely on the hidden message the show gives out, you'll know why.

The show is basically saying that only white guys are good enough to date Asian women but not blacks, not Hispanics, heck not even a Asian guy himself? The show degenerates Asian women given the notion that they're nothing more than just a fetish. Hey maybe you fail to see it since well you're a white guy. I too attended a multi-racial arts school but that's where the similarities end Mr. Camp. The real world is diverse and not at all like this ethnic cleansing propaganda that you call a show.

Its one of my favorites
sierracalloway7 June 2017
Reading down these review had my laughing. U keep saying that its racist for not adding an Asian male lead. What is so wrong about have the kpop being represented by females. Megan Lee is a kpop singer, and a female just because mostly males preform kpop doesn't mean that three strong females preforming kpop is unheard of.

Also, the show is aimed to young kids 8-12 years old. You older kids don't have to like it, it's not a show for you. When you were 10 or 12 there was Sam and cat, drake and josh, icarly etc. You like them because you could relate to it and still had cheesy jokes and ridiculously shallow charters sometimes. Not that those shows weren't awesome I loved them but I'm just saying that at the time the older kids probably thought it suck just like you do about make it pop and probably other shows.

And if you watched season 2 the were as a in male lead so I don't believe your "there all racist" claim to be correct in any way, shape, or form. I'm 15 years old and I love this show with my heart... You don't have to love it like I do but you shouldn't make big deals about something that is nothing or a small thing that if the actors do feel offended by it, its probably smaller than you think. BTW I'm look forward to season 3 hope they renew it.

Incredibly racist show
soe-783901 August 2015
I find this show very racist. Thomas Lynch should be ashamed of himself. This is 2015 and I cannot believe that people like him are getting away with this. This is a show about K-Pop with no Asian males. How does it make sense? It doesn't. There are as many male K-Pop artists as there are female K-Pop artists. This is racism. Not only that, the producer had the audacity to open say he wouldn't cast Asian males in "his" show. It seems to me that the producer is trying to keep Asian men down. He's trying to make sure Asian men are desexualized. I will make sure to keep my nieces and cousins away from this show. Thank you very much.

Wanted to kill myself before the opening titles.
cravy-josh-776-90840427 April 2015
Every once-in-a-while, I'll watch one of my sister's shows she likes, just to see how long I can make before I lose faith in humanity. I guess I enjoy hating them, or get enjoyment out of how bad they are, something like that. I think I started doing it because I saw my sister watching them, and couldn't understand why she liked them. Shows like Liv and Maddie, I didn't do it, and other stuff like that on Disney channel, and shows like Sam and Cat, The Thundermans, Haunted Hathaways or something, and other stuff like that on Nickelodeon. I'd watch them and just laugh at how bad they were, and over time I started enjoying watching them because of how bad they were. I'd watch Liv and Maddie and think "This is so stupid, how does my sister actually enjoy this stuff". And sometimes, I'd delete the episode of the show after I watched it, because I simply couldn't allow my sister to watch it. I'm 16, and my sister's 13, and please don't misunderstand what I'm saying, I despise these shows, but I like hating them, they're right on the verge of being so bad they're good, not as much as something like Birdemic, or The Room, but still pretty bad.

So one day I see this show, "Make It Pop", in our DVR, I look at the description and think "Oh, another one of my sister's shows. Okay, time to see how bad it is". I turn the show one, and within the first, probably, 15 seconds, I hated it. More than the other shows, I hated it with a passion. The "jokes", oh my gosh, I heard funnier things in the rejected jokes list for Disney's "Jessie". The acting, wow, the actors in The Room deserved a million Oscars for best actor compared to this. The "characters" were stereotypes beyond belief I don't even want to get into that. The weird setting and plot didn't make any sense. I enjoy hating Shake It Up, but this, like I said in the title, wanted to kill myself before the opening titles. Well, not quite, the titles are what pushed me over to that. They're opening titles, how do you mess them up so bad? HOW? Some terrible singers singing "make it pop" over and over again to the most generic beat you ever heard, and they just keep repeating it throughout the titles. Once again, we have a Nickelodeon show about "singers" "trying to make it". Wow, that's the most original plot since Fast and Furious 7. I hate the other Nick and Disney shows, but this is far worse than all of those combined. I honestly think that this show is making kids dumber. Watch Liv and Maddie all you want, it's stupid, but it's not gonna do much to you. But Make It Pop will actively lower your kids' IQ. That's not exaggerating, or trying to emphasize my point, that is my honest genuine thoughts on it. I beg of you, do not show your kids this garbage, no, not garbage, garbage's garbage's garbage.

Like, a day after watching this, my sister started wearing her hair like the Korean girl on the show, she downloaded the "soundtrack" to the show, she started singing and memorizing the "songs". Hey, I'm all for dressing up like people on your favorite show, every now and then, I'll put on a suit and pretend my pen's a sonic screwdriver. But this show is obsessive, like a real life version of chinpokomon, but a million times worse. If you have any respect for you kids, and the future of humanity, don't let them watch even a second of this show. Pease, I beg of you.

Terrible
megalink-7773111 September 2015
Absolutely horrendous. The acting was sub-par and even though this is inspired by K-Pop, the bigoted producer said that he absolutely refused to put Asian males in this show. This is sending a message of self-hate and white male supremacy. This modern era of shows on Nickelodeon, they are a far cry from the old days of Nickelodeon embracing diversity, now they are planning on giving messages of preferred treatment and favoritism to the children and pre-teenagers of the United States of America. I shudder to think what would happen if the children absorb the messages and start to apply racist stereotypes based on this bigoted media.

This is a Nickelodeon show?
loganholmes7 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Nickelodeon has made some great shows over the years like Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, Hey Arnold, Invader Zim, Drake and Josh, and many more. Now we get this? Why is Nickeloden not pulling the plug on this show? They need to realize that this is and awful show and end it as soon as possible! This show has 2 seasons and 2 specials that it never deserved. Plus, the actors and actresses are terrible! They are boring and not funny! This show needs better actors and actresses like Drale Bell, Josh Peck, Miranda Cosgrove, Amanda Bynes, Jerry Tranior, Nathan Kress, Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Josh Server, Lori Beth Denburg, and many more.

I do not recommend this show at all!

another bad live action sitcom
mobengafer4 February 2017
Why nickelodeon just why you had good live action shows like the adventures of Pete and Pete Clarissa explains it all all that salute your shorts the Amanda show drake and josh Zoe 101 the troop icarly victorious life with boys house of anubis Ned's declassified unfabulous every witch way wits academy and 100 things to do before high school now we get this the thunder mans Henry danger nicky Ricky dicky and dawn the other kingdom and game shakers you should cancel them all because they say it's for teenagers but they act like 3 year old shows and have nick Jr jokes anybody could understand. It acts so stupid and tries to be the next Zoe 101 and victorious but it fails it also acts like it's only for teenagers it's so stupid i'm begging you nickelodeon you did a good job with taking of sparky from the fairly odd parents because of the number of hated people but now you need to do it to shows like we get these days if you want your network to get better than at least cancel all your live action sitcoms and you will be fine and no more low ratings that's all so if a show gets lower than 5.8 then cancel it that's all so are you going to cancel them if you aren't then leave people leave your network and not care and we will be watching Disney and cartoon network because of shows like this i don't know why but you only care about the viewers nothing else ratings are important and so are comments a show like game shakers has a rare amount of fans and you renew it just because it has lots of viewers sure ignore me and leave people hate your network except for 6 year old's
