Actually a lot of fun. Good flick!

Obviously a tight budget but this flick is great entertainment if you know how to enjoy a movie like this. I laughed all the way through this movie, kept a consistent tone and the characters are super likable. Great fun here.

Love can rock you
BandSAboutMovies18 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of this review won't make sense if you aren't from Western Pennsylvania.

My wife was born near Detroit, so she doesn't always get a lot of Pittsburgh. There's the yinzer accent. The strange customs. And when we were in line at Kennywood to ride the Thunderbolt the other night, she didn't get the palpable excitement that everyone else felt when Donnie Iris' "Love is Like a Rock" blared over the speakers.

Sure, this song may have only reached #37 on Billboard's Hot 100 way back in 1981 (and was covered by Slade too!), but here in Pittsburgh, it's probably in the top three songs of all time. We may have a strange love for the Styx's "Renegade," despite them being from Chicago.

I'm telling you all this because Bigfoot: The Movie opens with a bunch of guys screaming out the lyrics to "Love Is Like a Rock" while cruising down the two-lane blacktop of my hometown, Ellwood City, PA. Yep. Bigfoot is on the loose and he's haunting the bars that I used to sneak into underage.

Seriously, most of this movie is set in bars like the Hazel Manor, The Shelby and The Oak Grove Inn. This may mean nothing to the folks streaming this movie on Amazon Prime, but it's incredibly strange for me to see the place I sang my first time in public or the 7-11 I used to skateboard to show up in a horror movie.

Another fact that non-Pittsburgh folks may miss out on is that this movie stars Curt Wooton, who is better known here as the viral star of Pittsburgh Dad. It's hard to describe our mishmash non-word language of Yinzer to those that are outside our mountainous walls, but Wooton has made a career of this character. Here, he plays Chuck, one of the guys who wants revenge on Bigfoot.

Turns out that the Mayor has one under wraps and it keeps getting out to kill people, like the best friend of Chuck, Burl and Dale. This is as much as drinking buddy film as it is a Bigfoot movie as it is a homage to Jaws.

You also get cameos by Pittsburgh comedians Jim Krenn, Terry Jones, Bill Crawford and Aaron Kleiber, as well as other Burgh celebs like news anchor Darieth Chisolm and actresses Brenna Lee Roth and America's Next Top Model contender Joanie Dodds as the lead girl Kate, who proves that she can drink and shoot as well as the boys. And director Jared Show grew up and went to school in Ellwood City, so you pretty much will get an unvarnished look at the siding covered houses filled with nic nacs and country looking streets of where I spent my formative years.

Back to how this all began -- if you aren't from here, much of the humor may fall flat. If you are, you're probably going to love it. After all, it has Donny's music in it n'at.

"Here We Go, Now!"...
azathothpwiggins8 June 2021
BIGFOOT THE MOVIE starts off with three rural gents out for a night of beer-drinking fun, when suddenly, one of them is snatched by a hairy arm and reduced to ground chuck... er, Daryl.

The horror has only just begun.

This is a very funny movie! The main reason it works is because the characters are likeable, good-natured ding-a-lings, instead of insufferable a$$holes! Proof that low-budget films need not be terrible!

THIS MOVIE HAS: #1- A conspiracy / cover-up reaching to the highest levels of small town government! #2- The Amish mafia! #3- Creepy ninjas!

Fun if you're from Pennsylvania, maybe
HumongousChungus7 July 2018
Looking for terrible horror movies on Amazon late one night, I was surprised to find this suitable looking candidate mention Ellwood City, PA in its description -- only a few hours away from me. (There is another Pennsylvania bigfoot movie, Suburban Sasquatch, that has begun to gather some an audience and some acclaim -- or rather, notoriety.) Encourage by this fateful serendipity, the night's film was chosen. It wasn't very good.

In an interview with a local paper, the director said he tried to capture the character of Western PA. By my account he succeeded; the people, the undulated streets, the woods, well, it all feels like home. But other than that there isn't a whole lot going for this movie. Although this is a "horror-comedy" by some classifications, there is zero focus on the horror element. There are some horror tropes, and people get murdered, but there's no attempt to make it scary. Which is fine. But what is not fine is that basically any scene that's not meant to be comedy per se is terrible. The bigfoot attacks and dramatic scenes are devoid of tension. That's the kind of thing that's not easily forgiven for lack of budget or being a B-movie spoof.

What you get in this movie is mostly people standing around cracking jokes that sometimes hit and mostly miss. The actors are passable; I don't recall anyone being particularly incompetent. Oh, and the creature is surprisingly good looking, not at all what I was expecting. Come to think of it, there was a gore scene that also had a disgusting effect. Maybe that's where most of the budget went?

Anyway -- this isn't offensively bad. I can see people with a less uptight sense of humor enjoying this, probably with drinks and friends. Personally it's not for me.

Shockingly terrible

Warning: Spoilers
BIGFOOT THE MOVIE is a shockingly terrible attempt at a comedy horror movie, funded by Kickstarter no less (what a shame that the donated money couldn't have gone to some genuine causes). I feel like the backers should have been refunded as this is total trash, amateur hour all round. It's basically a redneck comedy with a ton of unfunny humour, a barely-seen Bigfoot creeping around the scenery, and more bad hairstyles than you can shake a stick at. It truly is a film with no redeeming values.

Bigfoot suit not bad
jkitley-221071 March 2020
I really liked this movie. It heavily features a lifted 60s Ford pickup which steals the show. Is anything added to the film or storyline in doing this? Not really but I'm okay with the truck getting more screen time than the Bigfoot. The power hungry mayor was hilarious. His try hard approach to acting is commendable. Actually acting across the board was average in my estimation. The Bigfoot costume/suit wasn't half bad. For a b rate it's not bad. I am interested to see what Jared Show does in the future.

One of the best Bigfoot related films I've seen
bmoviep30 November 2017
Bigfoot the movie is one of the best Bigfoot related films I've seen. (Which is saying a lot). Creator John R Hand took a tired formula and managed to an make entertaining film, largely due to the clever writing and subtle comedy style. The sound and visual quality was top notch, especially for an indie film and the score was perfectly selected for each scene. The characters were fun to watch and served as the film's greatest strength. Having a cast of unsophisticated red necks could have easily led to nothing more than a frenzy of tired clichés. However, Bigfoot: The Movie took the high ground and made the majority of jokes premise driven, elevating them above cheap gags. However, being a comedy about Bigfoot fighting rednecks the film was not entirely above cheap gags and toilet humor. These jokes were overall funny as well due to comedic timing and the fact that no single joke was drawn out longer than necessary. I mean, if I were face to face with Sasquatch, I'd probably need a few drinks to get through the ordeal as well. Anyone who lives or has lived around Western Pennsylvania will appreciate regional jokes and Pittsburgh slang present throughout the film, adding an extra layer of charm. The only noticeable flaw from this film is it's unfortunate habit of dragging in places, which occasionally slows down the otherwise steady pacing. This is particularly prevalent regarding the romance and drama between characters. These moments don't seem to added much to the plot, nor do they develop the characters in any meaningful way. However, these moments are few and far between concerning the film as a whole. It would be wrong not to credit this film for using a Bigfoot costume that actually didn't look like a cheap planet of the apes knock off. Overall, Bigfoot the movie is clever comedy that's guaranteed to satisfy both long time Bigfoot fans, as well as anyone looking for an excuse to drink.

F-ing AMAZING
lnprincess1 June 2015
So funny!!!! I can watch this over and over. I love each of the characters. The Bigfoot costume is out of this world. I got a chance to see it at the Oaks Theater and it was pretty awesome! Every time I watch it I find something new and funny that I missed before. I can't wait till the sound track comes out. I'm really hoping they make a sequel. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but make sure you watch all the way through the credits.... I bought DVD's for my family. I'm really hoping they make more merchandise available! You can download the movie and get awesome merchandise on the website. Thanks for the laughs!!!

best laughs in a long time
brian-cartwright214 June 2015
For a budget of $100k, mostly raised on KickStarter, it hardly showed in the final product. Sure, some of the secondary actors might have a little stiff in their delivery, but the big four of Curt Wootton, Jared Show, Nathan Magill and Joanie Dodds really delivered the laughs.

Wootton and Show did a fine job with the writing of a comedy/horror pic, which they described as "a love letter to western Pennsylvania." With all the big actors from the area, I had been fascinated with the idea of a movie shot in Pittsburghese, and I'm sure that all a'yinz will agree that these guys pulled it off.

A hilarious, campy take on the people and horror movies they grew up with.

Great Comedy
rodhackenflasch24 April 2017
Acting was great - especially the 3 main jagoffs. The cinematography was well done. The bigfoot creation was real enough for this type of production (better than most). If you're looking for a serious bigfoot movie or riveting suspense, this isn't it. It's a hell of a good comedy, and even better if you're from Southwestern PA.

A masterclass in monster film.
This movie against all odds is an absolute masterpiece. The characters are deep and have rich back stories; The dialogue is compelling and the monster is truly horrifying while also making the viewer feel sympathy towards it. I struggle to find a fault in this film short of the budgetary restraints.

(I am joking of course, this film, and I use that term extremely loosely, made me question the direction my life was heading that brought me to this moment, skip unless you are nihilistic)

Good natured
ImTylerDurden24 September 2022
As far as low budget films go this one is way ahead in so many ways. The main characters are all likeable and by the end have became totally infectious. It was certainly chuckle-funny for the most part and although there were few laugh out loud jokes it was such a charming watch that I did not care one bit. As far as the humour not translating goes, well I'm from England and the only references I didn't recognise were sports related, everything else pretty much landed correctly. This could so easily have been the premise for a Tucker & Dale sequel and goes quite some way towards satisfying that craving even if it's at the level of a dry run for that. An amiable and entertaining dry run.

A comfort food of a comedy/horror.
wingthwong12 February 2024
You're sitting at home. You've seen all the big blockbusters. The action, the comedy, the horror, you name it. They've all become cliché and rather droll. It's like the film industry has been on a big budget cocaine like high for so long, it needs to come down sometime. This is one of the movies that is so low budget and independent, that it brings filmmaking back down to earth.

These people have enough acting skills (not like they are struggling to remember lines at every turn) to pull this little funny film off. There is no unbelievable special effects like an Asylum film.

Jared Show, the director and one of the main characters in the movie, rounded up just enough of his North Western Pennsylvania friends to give us a delightful little horror/comedy without getting into the rated R/mature zone, staying just on the TV-14 side.

I normally skip over newer low budget movies where the director is in the movie or has obvious family members in the cast. I was surprised. There are no slow spots. It rolls along somewhat smoothly. The bigfoot isn't some overblown or never seen abomination. If a bigfootdid exist, this is what I would suspect. The funny doesn't take itself seriously. The horror doesn't either, but I wouldn't want to run into this bigfoot unarmed.

What's nice is that there is no B movie celebrity to draw in the viewers. The script is actually fresh and funny.

This is the kind of comedy one would expect of western Pennsylvania rednecks without dumbing down. They play stupid, but there is smartness in it that makes you smile.

All in all, it's a real movie for real people. I wish Jared Show would come out with more of these breezy movies.
