Jack Axelrod, the actor who played the role of Victor Jerome on General Hospital, has died. He was 93.
Multiple reports indicate that Axelrod died on Nov. 28 of natural causes in Los Angeles.
Axelrod was featured on the ABC soap for 40 episodes between 1987 and 1989. He had previously made guest appearances in Kojak (1977), Hill Street Blues (1984), Dallas (1983), The Judge (1986), Dynasty (1987), Outlaws (1987) and Night Court (1989).
“I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him in his last years, as he had no immediate family,” representative Jennifer Garland said in a statement to EW. “We spent much time outdoors, where Jack loved to sketch, read news articles, and recite Shakespearean sonnets.”
Following his stint on General Hospital, Axelrod went on to play Arnie Zimmer on three episodes of Knots Landing between 1989 and 1990. Guest appearances would follow on shows like Murphy Brown (1992), Everybody Loves Raymond (1999), Boys Meets World (1999), Good vs Evil (1999), Jack & Jill...

In news that is sure to move waves in Spain, Portugal and beyond, former Netflix exec Juan Mayne, a name inextricably linked to the build of Spain as a global film-tv power, has been appointed as SkyShowtime regional content director for Iberia, encompassing Spain and Portugal.
The move creates an effective new streaming door to knock on for Spanish producers as some other – though not all – platforms are curbing commissions or orders in the two countries.
SkyShowtime in Spain and Portugal will be led, moreover, by one of Spain’s best known, connected and personable of TV execs, supercharging its operation in Spain from the get-go.
Mayne will report to the Amsterdam-based Kai Finke, himself appointed in September as chief content officer at the Comcast-Paramount joint venture SVOD platform , which focuses on European audiences. Not so long ago, the only Australian TV shows imported by the UK and US were soaps and the odd kids’ series. Neighbours, Home & Away, Prisoner: Cell Block H, Heartbreak High, and child trauma factory Round the Twist went overseas, but not much else.
It didn’t make for a very complete picture. 30 years ago, if you’d asked a British person to conjure up Australia based solely on its available TV output, they’d have pictured a land of bait shops, haunted lighthouses, prison wings, and cul de sacs where good neighbours become good friends. Ask one now, and thanks to streaming, it’d be a much broader church, based on viewing comedies, thrillers, dramas, detective shows and more.
Here are some of the best Australian TV series currently available to stream in the UK and US. We’ll update this selection as new series arrive.

The Twilight Zone lives again.
The classic horror anthology series, which originally ran on CBS from 1959 to 1964 and spawned several revivals, as well as a movie, will be rebooted once again as a new series for CBS All Access, CBS’ subscription streaming service announced Wednesday.
Get Out director Jordan Peeleand his production company, Monkeypaw Productions, will spearhead the latest revival, alongside Simon Kinberg and Marco Ramirez. The trio will serve as executive producers and collaborate on the first episode.

“The original The Twilight Zone bridged science-fiction, horror and fantasy together to explore human nature and provide social commentary in a way that audiences had never seen before,” said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President, Original Content at CBS All Access. “Under the auspices...

The premise of “No Activity” is so simple it’s dangerous. The police are stuck in an extended waiting game with a drug cartel. With the bad guys’ plan stalled, the cops have nothing to do but sit in their unmarked cruiser and keep an eye on their hideout. The two partners can only talk to each other to pass the time, and the same is true for the criminals on the inside and the dispatchers back at the station.
In other words, nothing happens. There’s literally no activity (barring the final moments of the first two episodes), and the entire comedy relies on banter between various partners to carry the show.
Improbably, it works. Buoyed by strong comedic performances from likable personalities, both new and familiar, and the sharp dialogue courtesy of series creator Trent O’Donnell and star Patrick Brammall, “No Activity” is a low-key pleasure. It goes down easy,...

Another turn of the calendar means another flood of new things to be aware of. Sure, Netflix has an entire slate of fresh programming all to themselves, but even that’s just the tip of the TV iceberg. The fall TV season might be winding down before a massive Thanksgiving reboot, but there are plenty of premieres still left before we get too deep into the end of the year chatter. Captain Lorca had to fight for his life this week on Star Trek: Discovery — and he didn’t get much help from a classic Trek character.
Lorca starts out the week on a Starfleet space station, bragging to Admiral Cornwell about all the great things the Discovery has accomplished since they fired up the spore drive. But on a shuttle ride back to his ship, he’s ambushed by Klingons, who kill the pilot and take Lorca hostage. (Seems they’ve heard a bit about this spore drive, too.) They throw Lorca in a prison cell, where he meets… Harry Mudd!

Anthony Hayes.
Anthony Hayes (The Boys, Animal Kingdom) will direct crime thriller Stingray, set to start shooting next year in Canada.
Hayes wrote the script and will produce with John and Michael Schwarz. He will also appear in the film alongside American actor Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Street, Sicario).
The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, describes Stingray as the story of "a young man (Bernthal) caught up in organized crime who accidentally kills the brother of a powerful crime figure. He must then kill one of his own family in the next two days to pay off his blood debt."
The project is being shopped at the American Film Market next month.
It's been a big week for Hayes, who received Screen Australia development funding only a couple of days ago for another writing-directing project: Gold follows two men who find a huge gold nugget in the desert.
