Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster Twilight franchise is heading to the small screen, and here are the details.
There was a time in the early 2010s when Twilight was just about the biggest film franchise around.
It comprises five films – 2008’s Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, 2009’s New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, 2010’s Eclipse, directed by David Slade, and the two part finale Breaking Dawn, directed by Bill Condon and released in 2011 and 2012. Their success was such that two parody films were also released in quick succession, the much maligned Vampire’s Suck and Breaking Wind.
The films followed Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan as she becomes romantically involved with vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, and werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. Which all leads to a battle with vampire coven The Volturi.
Adapted by future Jessica Jones creator Melissa Rosenberg, the large ensemble cast also included Billy Burke,...

More than a decade has gone by since the Twilight Saga ran its course on the big screen, with five movies telling the story of the four books in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. So, of course, Lionsgate is working to figure out ways to revive the franchise. While there are some side stories and reimaginings that could still be brought to the screen, it doesn’t seem like they’re interested in greenlighting any of those projects. Last year, it was announced that a Twilight TV series was in development – and now Variety has confirmed that Lionsgate Television is shopping around a small screen version of the story – not as a live-action show, but an animated series!
Michael Burns, vice chairman of Lionsgate, brought up the project during a media conference, saying, “We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there...

Based on Stephenie Meyer’s book series, the popular Twilight film franchise is soon headed to the small screen with an animated television series project, Variety reports this week.
The planned animated “Twilight” series is being shopped by Lionsgate Television.
Lionsgate’s vice chairman Michael Burns teased yesterday, “We’re going to go out with the ‘Twilight’ series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.”
It was first announced back in 2023 that Lionsgate was looking to bring Twilight to the small screen, but at the time we assumed the project would be a live action TV series.
Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, the Twilight film franchise grossed more than $3 billion, with five films released between 2008 and 2012. The film franchise become a massive pop culture phenomenon, though it’s been lying dormant for over 10 years now. Meyer did release a new book in 2020, however,...

Lionsgate is expanding the “Twilight” franchise with a new animated series, Variety has confirmed.
Michael Burns, vice chairman of Lionsgate, shared the news during a Q&a at the Morgan Stanley media conference on Tuesday, revealing, “We’re going to go out with the ‘Twilight’ series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.”
Last April, Variety reported that a “Twilight” TV series adaptation was in very early development at Lionsgate Television.
The animated series would be based on the Stephanie Meyer book series of the same name, which was previously adapted into a film franchise, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
There were four “Twilight” novels — “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn” — published between 2005 and 2008. In 2015, Meyer released the book “Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined,” which gender-swapped the two main characters, Bella and Edward. Meyer then released “Midnight Sun” in...

Lionsgate has acquired domestic rights to the Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James and Himesh Patel comedy “Greedy People.”
The film explores what happens when the eccentric residents of a small, picturesque island town are faced with a sensational murder and the discovery of $1 million next to the body. This sparks a series of increasingly bad decisions that do a number on the peace and tranquility of the community.
“’Greedy People’ is a hugely entertaining crime thriller in every way,” said Allison Lynch, Lionsgate’s director of acquisitions and co-productions. “Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James, and Himesh Patel lead an incredible cast through twists and turns that range from the hilarious to the horrific – and the movie always keeps you guessing.”
The film’s starry ensemble also features Uzo Aduba (“Orange is the New Black”), Tim Blake Nelson (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”), Jim Gaffigan (“Chappaquiddick”) and Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”).

Exclusive: Picture Tree International (Pti) has boarded sales on religious cult drama Raptures (Rörelser) about the notorious real-life Korpela Movement which took hold in the remote Torne Valley on the border of Sweden and Finland in the 1930s.
Written and directed by Swedish filmmaker Jon Blåhed, the film is inspired by true events captured in the novel Dagning; röd! by award-winning minority Meänkieli language author Bengt Pohjanen.
The drama, which is currently in the second half of its shoot in northern Finland and Sweden, will be the first feature shot in Meänkieli, which is spoken by some 70,000 people in the Torne Valley but was suppressed by the Swedish state for decades.

This post contains spoilers for the "Twilight" movies.
"Twilight" is a global phenomenon that warrants no introduction. Whether you love the five-part saga or love to dunk on it, the "Twilight" movies will be forever etched into public consciousness, as its complicated legacy within the context of young-adult fantasy simply cannot be ignored. In hindsight, "Twilight" gifted us with two astoundingly talented and diverse actors — Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who play Bella Swan and Edward Cullen respectively, and have cemented themselves as performers capable of introducing significant depth to their roles over the years.
The core premise of the "Twilight" movies is pretty simple. An awkward, reserved teenager, Bella, finds herself jammed in an uncharacteristic love triangle, her suitors being a 107-year vampire and a shape-shifting werewolf. Grander stakes are introduced eventually in the form of century-spanning vampire-werewolf rivalry, a rogue, vicious group of vampire newborns who want to watch the world burn,...

The "Twilight Zone" episode "The Midnight Sun" took place on an Earth that had fallen out of its orbit and was drifting very slowly closer and closer toward the sun. The episode was an exploration of humanity during its waning hours, as seen through the eyes of Norma (Lois Nettleton), a painter who tried desperately to hang on to water and stay cool as temperatures rose and rose. Norma's only recourse is to paint the fires she sees out the window and the burning, growing sun in the sky. Eventually, her neighbor breaks down and implores Norma to paint something cool and refreshing, like a waterfall. The episode ends with Norma being overwhelmed by the heat and her neighbor dying of heat stroke.
There is a twist, of course. Norma wakes up in bed, having dreamed the entire episode. It's revealed that the Earth is, in fact, drifting away from...

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.
The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.

“Twilight” may be coming to TV!
The popular “Twilight” novels by Stephenie Meyer is in early development at Lionsgate TV to be turned into a potential television series, Et has confirmed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news, “Tell Me Lies” producer Sinead Daly is attached to write the script for the “Twilight” project. It is unclear at the moment whether the possible series would be a direct adaptation of Meyer’s novels, which inspired the multibillion-dollar five-movie franchise, or a different take. Meyer is said to be involved in the potential series.
A Lionsgate TV spokesperson declined to comment.
Meyer’s Twilight novels were a series of four fantasy romance novels that were published annually from 2005 through 2008. Told primarily from Bella Swan’s point of view, the books chronicled her tumultuous love story with vampire Edward Cullen. In 2020, Meyer released Midnight Sun, which retold the events of the first book,...

The Twilight Saga ran its course on the big screen, with five movies telling the story of the four books in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. While there are some side stories and reimaginings that could still be brought to the screen, the main tale has been told. Now ten and a half years have gone by since the release of the last film in the franchise… and that means the story is ripe for a re-telling. That’s clearly what Lionsgate Television believes, anyway, as The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that a Twilight TV series is in development!
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the Twilight TV series is in its infancy and does not yet have a network/platform or a writer as sources say the studio, which controls the rights to the franchise, plans to lead the development on the project before shopping the rights to the package.

The series would be based on the Stephanie Meyers book series of the same name, which was previously adapted into a film franchise. At this time, there is no writer or a network/streaming service attached to the project.
According to sources, Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig are attached as executive producers. Feig is the former co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, while Godfrey and his Temple Hill production company produced the five “Twilight” films. Meyers is also expected to be involved in any potential series.
Reps for Lionsgate did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.
There were originally four “Twilight” novels — “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse,” and “Breaking Dawn” — published between 2005 and 2008. Meyers also released the book “Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined” in 2015, which gender-swapped the two main characters,...

Each of the Beatles had children, and, as with many celebrities, they found careers similar to their parents. While some have found success in other industries — notably fashion and photography — many of the Beatles’ children also became musicians. Here are the Beatles children who followed in their fathers’ footsteps.

John Lennon’s first child, and the firstborn Beatles child, Julian Lennon, began his music career in 1984, not long after his father’s death. His debut album, Valotte, found great success and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 1985.
Julian released several other albums, though Valotte remains his most successful. Like his father, he primarily sticks to the rock genre. He also tackled one of Lennon’s most famous songs in 2022. He had initially vowed to never cover “Imagine,” but with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, he...

A reformed criminal goes on the run in The Hanging Sun, an adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s novel Midnight Sun. The author also co-writes the screenplay of this fiction feature debut from Francesco Carrozzini, the photographer who helmed the documentary Franca: Chaos and Creation. The closing film of Venice Film Festival, it’s well performed and gripping enough, though geographically confusing.
Filmed in northern Norway, where the novel is set, it stars an international cast, all speaking English with a variety of accents. Given that the conceit of the book revolves around 24-hour daylight at a certain time of year, the location is an honorable gesture, and handsomely filmed. But it’s hard to accept this as Nordic noir given the language and casting.
Italian actor Alessandro Borghi stars as John, a hitman who was adopted as a child and trained by a ruthless criminal, whose biological son (Frederick Schmidt) resents John. Their feud has come to a head now that John is trying to escape a life of crime, so he hides out in a remote religious community and meets Lea (Jessica Brown Findlay), the victim of an abusive husband (Sam Spruell).
With strong, understated performances from Borghi and Findlay, the unspoken attraction between John and Lea helps to keep the attention, as do the dramatic plot points, from suspicious deaths to chase scenes.
There’s also a sweet bond between John and Lea’s son Caleb (Raphael Vicas), who has developed an unusual way of speaking to cover up a stammer.
But the dramas feel familiar, and archetypes such as the abused wife, the trained killer and the fire-and-brimstone priest (Charles Dance) aren’t fleshed out enough to feel fresh. The Hanging Sun is a workable and good-looking thriller, but it stays on the surface rather than staying with you.

It’s kept deliberately vague where precisely Italian music-video director Francesco Carrozzini has set his feature debut, an adaption of the Jo Nesbø bestseller novel “Midnight Sun,” which closed a prestige-laden Venice Film Festival on an improbable note. One leans toward, maybe, Norway? But it could be Iceland or Greenland or any one of those far-flung, fjordy locales that usually turn out to belong to Denmark. It’s not like the language cues help: The dialogue is in English and the grand, windswept coastal landscapes are carefully scrubbed of signage that might, by so much as a single ‘ø,’ betray their provenance.
The actors’ nationalities are less use still. Headlined by Italy’s Alessandro Borghi (“The Eight Mountains”), the rest of the cast is stacked with UK talent, though we do know for sure, by the way the sun never sets and the mood is set firmly to “Nordic despair,...

Sweden’s Svt Orders ‘Whiskey On The Rocks’ From Skyverse Nordic
Sweden’s public service broadcaster Svt has boarded Skyverse Nordic comedy-drama Whiskey On The Rocks as its main commissioning broadcaster. The six-part series is still at script and production development stage and is being billed as a “premium, epic Cold War dramedy special event” directed by Björn Stein (Midnight Sun) and based on an original story from author Jonas Jonasson. It is among the first shows from Skyverse Nordic, which is a subsidiary of Sparkling, the Stockholm-based sister company to Humanoids that Deadline revealed back in May. The show reunites Jonasson with Skyverse boss Patrick Nebout and creative producer Henrik Jansson-Schweizer, who were collectively behind Sweden’s biggest export success, the Oscar-nominated The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. A Scandinavian and international cast are being sought to play the drama’s protagonists onboard the submarine and in Moscow.

Hopefully you’ve boldly gone and watched all of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” on Netflix before it leaves this month. Or, barring that, it might be time to subscribe to Paramount+, it’s next likely home. Also leaving Netflix this month is all of “Chicago Med” and “30 Rock,” which will probably wind up on Peacock.
But that’s not all – there are also a ton of great movies leaving the streaming platform this month, including Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” David Fincher’s “The Social Network,” Robert Zemeckis’ “Forrest Gump,” the 2009 remake of “Friday the 13th” and the 2013 remake of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Catch them while you still can!

ITV has revealed a first look at “Romulus 2,” the second season of Cattleya’s innovative Rome origins skein enacted in archaic Latin.
The outfit is also launching global sales on the series, which has just wrapped shooting and is being touted as more “fast paced and in your face” than the first instalment, as Lisa Perrin, the company’s chief of international productions, puts it.
The first season of the lavish Sky Italy original produced by Sky and Cattleya — which is owned by ITV Studios — in collaboration with show runner Matteo Rovere’s Groenlandia shingle, has now attained cult status, if not stellar ratings, in Italy. It won this year’s Silver Ribbon prize given by Italy’s critics for best Italian series made for the international market.
