Hollywood: City of Celluloid (1932)
**** (out of 4)
If you're a film buff then this documentary is going to be a must-see because it really does show you Hollywood in 1932. Apparently this here was independently produced, which might explain why it starts off rather grim with a warning about all the people who don't make it in the business. From here we get to see the local airport where we get a look at Wallace Beery and Harold Lloyd. After a trip down Rodeo Drive we visit Beverly Hills and get a glimpse at the homes of Buster Keaton, Douglas Fairbanks, Greta Garbo and several others. We then take a look around the town where we see several studios including MGM, Pathe and Disney. Obviously, there's so much great footage here that you can't help but really love this thing and especially if you're a fan of this era of Hollywood. Getting to see the stars homes was a great plus but so was seeing Walt and Roy Disney as well as other stars. It was even fun getting to see what Hollywood looked like at this time as well as seeing the old cars and buses.
