Brazilian TV behemoth Globo presented its world premiere preview of Brazilian series “Justice: Misconduct” at Content Americas, while also spotlighting its 2024 slate, presenting via sleek fast-paced sizzle reels its array of ever popular telenovelas such as “Crossed Paths,” “Land of Desire,” and “Perfect Love” alongside teasing the continuation of its successful “Justice” series.
“Justice: Misconduct,” the series created by Manuela Dias, is a narrative of moral complexity and human connection framed by the dilemmas surrounding the notion of justice.
Season 1 debuted in 2016. Set against the richly textured backdrop of Recife in Brazil, the series unfolded through interconnected stories of characters navigating the turbulent waters of justice and redemption. Season 2 takes that success, building four new stories through its run. It switches geography too, an idea from director of the series Gustavo Fernández, placing the stories in Ceilândia, Brasilia and its environs. The first season’s success was highlighted by its...

Up Front & Letters
Dak uses some of the Up Front space in this issue to publish more letters. It’s all to do with this being the end of Ci’s first year and everyone involved is in a mood to celebrate. The letters are basically singing the praises of a job well done and it showcases how well it is selling across the country. There is nothing to write home about in Up Front. Only more of Dak highlighting a good year and rightfully so. He points out how most of not all of the comics featured in Ci have been hits with the fans. On a personal level, #6 of Comics Interview was a big deal because of fans wanting to know about the fallout from the Jla/Avengers incident. East Coast distribution sold out completely. All the good stuff is in the usual letters pages at the back.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Alexandra Daddario, Aldis Hodge, Matt Bomer, Jensen Ackles, Stana Katic, Jimmi Simpson
Director: Jeff Wamester
Director: Marv Wolfman, James Krieg
Review of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One: A Disappointing Start to Crisis (Photo Credit – IMDb)
What’s Good: The voice cast, including Matt Bomer, Ashleigh Lathrop, and Christopher North, delivers performances on par with previous entries in the franchise. Bomer’s earnest portrayal of The Flash echoes the character’s Silver Age origins, while Lathrop and North contribute essential enthusiasm and finesse to their respective roles. Despite the film’s shortcomings, the voice actors bring their characters to life with notable performances.
What’s Bad: The film’s emotional core, the love tale between Barry Allen and Iris West, needs more depth, leaving the audience detached. The film struggles with internal contradictions, attempting to...

Not content with playing one character via :a[The Suicide Squad]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/the-suicide-squad/' }'s Weasel, it seems Sean Gunn has snagged another. While confirmation has yet to come from director James Gunn, Deadline reports that the younger Gunn (who has played a variety of roles in his brother's work) will pop up in films going forward as the villainous Maxwell Lord.
Lord's origins in the DC comic book universe date back to issue #1 of the 1987 Justice League comic book series, created by Keith Giffen, Jm DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire. At first glance, he's a cunning businessman and an ally to the members of the Justice League, who was fundamental in orchestrating Justice League International. His unsuspecting charm even won over characters such as Blue Beetle and the Martian Manhunter.
But then, in Justice League International, issue #12, we learn that Lord had been doing...

Sean Gunn, who audiences may know from his performance as the Ravager pirate Kraglin from writer/director James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise, has reunited with his older brother once again and joined the growing cast of the new DC Universe. According to Deadline, Sean Gunn will play Maxwell Lord, the DC Comics villain previously played by Pedro Pascal in Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman 1984." It's unclear if Lord will have a cameo role in James Gunn's "Superman: Legacy," but Deadline says the character will at least be referenced in the background of that movie and will appear in future DC projects. Will Sean be able to bring a similar level of goofiness to the role, or does James have something else in mind for this character? More on that in a minute.
While I typically like Sean Gunn as an actor, I'm kind of hoping he doesn't pop up in "Superman: Legacy,...

Deadline reports that Sean Gunn will play Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe. The evil businessman was previously played by Pedro Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984.
It’s not known if Sean Gunn will appear as Maxwell Lord in Superman: Legacy, which will be written and directed by James Gunn, but Deadline has heard that the character will merely be mentioned in the background, setting the stage for a future DC appearance. Maxwell Lord first appeared in Justice League #1 in 1987 and wasn’t originally a villain, but he later became an adversary to the Justice League and to Wonder Woman in particular. Although he initially had no abilities, he later gained the power to telepathically influence the minds of others.

The Justice League and the Huntsmen are back in Justice League x Rwby: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part Two, to conclude the underwhelming story from April’s part one. Other than commercial considerations, there is no real reason for the two teams to be paired together; no real character and dramatic opportunities are present, which may be why the story doesn’t really work.

Firehouse 51 is gearing up to welcome back one of its own.
Taylor Kinney is set to return to Chicago Fire for the NBC drama’s 12th season, which will begin production following resolution of the actors strike. Sources say the Chicago Fire writers room has written Kinney’s Kelly Severide back into the show in early episodes; it’s unclear at the moment whether the character will be back for good or just for a handful of episodes.
Kinney took a leave of absence from the series in the latter part of the 2022-23 season for what sources described as a personal matter. On screen, Severide’s absence was explained by saying the character was attending an arson investigation program, and the show implied he would return. In his first episode away, a conversation between Capt. Van Meter (Tim Hopper) and Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) suggested that when Severide completed the program,...

Justin Bieber seems to be moving towards ending his working relationship with longtime manager, Scooter Braun. Or at least that’s what a new report from Puck News claims, citing multiple sources who’ve confirmed that Bieber and Braun “haven’t spoken in months.”

This world is now covered in water with only two land masses, who are now at war. Now three months past their duty time, the soldiers are wondering whether the relief will come at all, or if it is the enemy who will find them first.
There is plenty to enjoy about Last Sentinel. Right from the first few seconds you can see that it either has a decent budget or the small budget is used very well. I can only assume that much of it was shot at sea but even the shots where we don’t see the ocean, you really do feel like they are...

In February 2023, Netflix will remove a bunch of movie and TV series from its library,
Netflix UK and Netflix US takes down numerous titles each month without fanfare, meaning that many things on your watchlist could suddenly disappear.
These removals are due to licencing deals coming to an end. Often, the titles make their way back to Netflix in the following year, but sometimes they leave to go to other platforms.
This month sees a selection of Netflix Originals being taken down, also.
To minimise surprise, we have put together a comprehensive list of everything being removed in both Netflix UK and US.

Four years ago this month, Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist behind The 1619 Project, first pitched the idea for the long-form journalism initiative to her editor at The New York Times Magazine. Since then, the original essay project has been adapted into a podcast, a book and now a six-part docuseries on Hulu in partnership with Disney, ABC and Onyx Collective.
“It’s been so amazing because usually you publish something and then you’re done with it, you don’t ever get a chance to refine it, to expand it,” Hannah-Jones told The Hollywood Reporter at the series’ Los Angeles premiere on Thursday night. “Every iteration of the project, I learned something more, about the history and about myself.”
Kathleen Lingo, an executive producer on the show and editorial director of film and television for The New York Times, said that she immediately knew the project was primed for the screen.

As the first in-person Sundance Film Festival since 2020 draws to a close, it’s time to see which films are taking home the festival’s most coveted awards. While there are many ways to measure success at Sundance — and many filmmakers are certainly more interested in a big sale than a trophy — the awards are nevertheless an important way of measuring which films resonated with the Park City crowd.
Friday’s award ceremony is the culmination of what has already been a very eventful festival. Despite the multitude of changes that the independent film world and the streaming industry are currently undergoing, this year’s festival still featured its share of buzzy premieres and splashy acquisitions. One of the most talked about movies in Park City has been Chloe Domont’s erotic thriller “Fair Play,” which sold to Netflix for a reported price of 20 million. The festival also featured some...

Nikole Hannah-Jones has given hundreds — or perhaps thousands — of interviews since she first published “The 1619 Project” in The New York Times Magazine in 2019. But when speaking to Variety ahead of the launch of the project’s six-part Hulu docuseries adaptation, the journalist says she’s feeling anxious. “This is a time of great anticipation and nerves,” Hannah-Jones says. “We really put our heart into this documentary, but it’s a different medium for me, and I felt a bit out of my element.”
She continues: “I know how to write a great magazine piece. I had to really depend on my collaborators — who were wonderful — to try to produce a great documentary, so we will see what the people say.”
So much of the production of “The 1619 Project” was new for the journalist — and cultural lightning rod — turned executive producer. One of the biggest hurdles was learning to conduct her interviews on camera.

The 2023 Sundance Film Festival opened with the surprise announcement of a new documentary. However, Doug Liman’s Brett Kavanaugh-themed “Justice” wasn’t the only non-fiction exposé that secretly made its way to Park City. Until it premiered at the festival January 21, the festival site billed U.S. Documentary Competition selection “Beyond Utopia” as a look at “various individuals as they attempt to flee one of the most oppressive places on Earth,” but didn’t specify the location.
The location in question is North Korea, and the movie delivers an eye-opening look at defectors who cross its Chinese border. Sources tell IndieWire that Sundance refused to name North Korea in its official description until after the premiere. That decision came out of concern that the movie could lead to security threats from the country, not unlike the Sony hack that destabilized the studio ahead of 2014 satire “The Interview.”

At the premiere of U.S. Documentary Competition title “Going Varsity in Mariachi,” the Q&a featured a rousing performance by the Edinburg North High School’s Mariachi Oro. Members of the “Theater Camp” cast performed a show tune at the premiere of their U.S. Dramatic Competition crowdpleaser. And at the screening of another hotly anticipated sales title, “Magazine Dreams,” the competition jury walked out in protest when captioning was not available for juror Marlee Matlin.
In short, Sundance is back and looks remarkably like its usual self with some excitement here, some disappointment there. That, along with a surprise screening (Doug Liman’s Brett Kavanaugh doc “Justice”), a little controversy (everyone will leave knowing what “open captions” mean), and a lot of snow make for a comfortingly familiar festival experience after a three-year gap.

Apart from a visible glow from the thrill of being back together in person, industry professionals at the Sundance Film Festival are undergoing a sort of crisis as they debate how serious the problems are facing independent film.
The one point of agreement: With theatrical in a state of severe decline, the future of independent and art house film is very much in a state of limbo. The business model for arthouse film has been crumbling for years, but now just resembles a haze of confusion. Regal just closed 39 theaters, AMC is expected to close venues to stave off a cash crunch, Landmark shut down in Los Angeles and the box office has re-set to a new, low baseline.
That leaves the streamers as the main port of call, but let’s face it — indie filmmakers would really prefer not to end up in the bottomless pit of Netflix.
Where will all these films go?...

When the 2023 Sundance began on Thursday evening, there was a giddiness in the air after two years of virtual festivals. For filmmakers and audiences, it was thrilling just to be back in crowded theaters to watch movies and bask in the Sundance buzz that, let’s face it, makes a lot of indie films look better at 6,900 feet than they will at sea level.
Sustaining the giddiness is, of course, more difficult than getting there in the first place. So as the delayed-gratification Sundance’s opening weekend nears its conclusion, it’s hard not to acknowledge that the initial rejoicing also required ignoring the fact that the movie business itself has been rocked, with theaters closing and box-office numbers still far from pre-covid numbers. And, oh yes, covid is still with us.

Ben Affleck is making the rounds to promote his latest film The Way Back and much like the movie itself, he’s doing a lot of self-analysis and reflection about the struggles in his life and career.
One of the bigger topics of discussion is his exit as Batman in the Dceu. Despite some significant backlash upon his casting (though there’s been more for Robert Pattinson), fans eventually warmed up to his iteration of the character. Personally, I’d argue his fight scene late in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is the single best depiction of the Caped Crusader ever put to film, with apologies to Michael Keaton and Christian Bale, of course.
But his stint as the Dark Knight was short-lived. We only got one more performance (not counting Suicide Squad) out of him and it was in the troubled production that was Justice League. During an interview with GQ,...

Judith Sheindlin, better known as “Judge Judy,” surprised the industry with the news that surfaced Sunday evening that she is ending her run on the top-rated court show after the 2020-21 season, which will mark her 25th year on the show. Sheindlin now plans to launch a new gaveler in fall 2021, “Judy Justice.” But reruns drawn from “Judge Judy’s” vault of more than 5,000 episodes will continue to air in syndication for some time.
Sheindlin has teamed with former CBS executive Scott Koondel to handle the sale of the new series. The show is expected to be a similar format as “Judge Judy.” But it will not be aimed for broadcast syndication. The bet is that “Judy Justice” will command attention from a streaming service or major cable outlet that can craft an innovative distribution plan that blends linear and streaming platforms.

Judge Judy is coming to an end after 25 seasons, host Judy Sheindlin says. At the same time, she isn't ready to hang up her gavel just yet.
The syndicated court show host appeared on Monday's The Ellen DeGeneres, where she told DeGeneres that the 2020-21 season of Judge Judy will also be its last. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Judge Judy will end production after next season, which will be the show's 25th season on the air.
"I've had a 25-year-long marriage with CBS [Television Distribution, which distributes the show], and it's been successful," she said. "...

Two-time Academy Award winner Ben Affleck is very familiar with superhero cinema by this point in his career. Not only did he play the first live-action incarnation of Matt Murdock back in 2003’s Daredevil, but he then went on to don the cape and cowl to become the Dceu’s Caped Crusader in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and, briefly, Suicide Squad. Then there was his role as real-life actor George Reeves, who played Clark Kent throughout the 1950s on Adventures of Superman, in 2006’s Hollywoodland.
But unfortunately, it looks like Affleck’s work in the superhero genre is at its end. For now, at least. After hanging up the Batsuit a few years back and declining to return for The Batman, the actor has now moved on with his career and though his personal struggles have slowed him down a bit in recent years, he’s...

This year’s strong Italian presence at Berlin — a total of nine films in various sections, three of which are in competition — is one of several indicators pointing to an upbeat 2020 for cinema Italiano.
The other positives are that box office is picking up thanks to the Hollywood studios finally releasing more movies day-and-date with the rest of the world in the summer, just as the country’s production pipeline is percolating with a promising mix of new works by masters such as Nanni Moretti and promising up-and-comers like Susanna Nicchiarelli.
Government funding has been increased with more than €400 million ($436 million) allocated for various support schemes, including generous tax incentives for foreign shoots.
The batting average for Italian movies at the local box office, where 2019 admissions were up 14%, is still too low. There were 29 feature films last year that did not even gross much more than €1 million ($1.09 million). Still, the picture could be worse.

In his latest book about Hollywood, author Sam Wasson uses interviews and books — such as autobiography “Roman by Polanski” — to craft a novelistic tale about the making of the iconic 1974 movie “Chinatown.” The first chapter, “Justice,” starts off with the romance between actress Sharon Tate and young director Roman Polanski, as he casts her in his 1967 film, “The Fearless Vampire Killers.” Our excerpt (slightly edited for length) is below.
Duty was her pattern. She was a smiler, an actress.
Sharon signed with Ransohoff at nineteen. Dutifully, she faced Hollywood with professional dedication, taking courses in singing, dancing, and acting, the latter with Jeff Corey in the fall of 1963. “An incredibly beautiful girl,” Corey reflected, “but a fragmented personality.” Self-disclosure was a problem, so Corey one day put a stick in her hand and demanded, “Hit me, do something, show emotion!” Beauty was not enough. And she knew she wouldn’t be beautiful forever.

Snyder, Capullo, Glapion & Plascencia re-team for a follow up to the big crossover, Metal
After days of teasing, DC finally announced what we've all been expecting since Scott Snyder's Justice League wrapped: Dark Nights: Death Metal, the follow up to the gonzo 2017-18 crossover Dark Nights: Metal, the event that introduced the Dark Multiverse to the DC cosmology, a nightmare version of the DC Universe full of Bat-themed baddies.
If Metal read like it was born out of Greg Capullo whispering "memento metal" into Snyder's ear as they walked into a DC writer's retreat, then Death Metal sounds like what happens when Capullo trebuchets a milk crate full of Megadeth records through a brooding Snyder's living room window, convincing the writer to become what his enemies fear most: totally fucking brutal.

We’ve been waiting a long time for The Flash starring Ezra Miller. A revolving door of directors have come and gone from the project over the years, though it seems to finally be on track now that It’s Andy Muschietti is attached to helm. Due to the various filmmakers that have been involved, a lot of conflicting story details have been discussed over time, but We Got This Covered can now confirm exactly who the main villain of the film will be.
Flash fans won’t be surprised to hear that we’ve been told by our sources – the same ones who said Taskmaster would be the primary antagonist in Black Widow and that Kevin Conroy was playing Kingdom Come Batman in “Crisis,” both of which turned out to be true – that Reverse-Flash is the current pick to serve as Barry Allen’s nemesis in his first solo movie.

Zack Snyder has an apparently inexhaustible collection of Justice League concept art and behind-the-scenes photos that he’s been gradually posting online since the film’s release. Showing us what we missed out on with the butchered theatrical cut has kept the Snyder cut dream alive for legions of fans and campaigners. But now he’s posted one of the best yet, a promotional shot of Henry Cavill in the black Superman suit.
First, though, here’s a bit of context for this look. In the iconic The Death and Return of Superman comics, the hero was killed in a titanic clash in Metropolis by the rampaging Doomsday. Following his death, we see rival Supermen battling for the right to be his successor, only for the original to return via a Kryptonian Regeneration Matrix. When he emerged from this process though, he was wearing a black and silver Superman costume.

2019 is finally coming to an end, taking with it a decade that saw major changes in the way people watched television. But before we close the book on 2019 and dive into 2020, let’s look back at how the final year of the 2010s treated our favorite cable channels by employing the most hallowed form of year-end content — the ranked list.
For the fourth year in a row, Fox News Channel finished 2019 as the most-watched network on cable, according to Nielsen’s Live + Same Day ratings. That claim holds true for both primetime (8 p.m. to 11 p.m.) and total day (6 a.m. to 6 a.m.). As a matter of fact, Fox News is currently enjoying its most-watched year ever in primetime.
ESPN was again runner-up in primetime, but MSNBC bumped the world’s most expensive cable channel to third in total day rankings.

That was a pleasant change of pace before the holiday hiatus
The three sets of partners did some much-needed opening up to each other on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 11.
The upshot of it: No one's changing anything, except maybe Hetty.
Having some downtime during the case of the week was the perfect pretense for allowing the agents to vent to one another.
Let's start with Eric and Nell.
They haven't been right since late last season, when Nell's mother got sick and Eric received a tempting private-sector offer.
With a scatter-brained sister such as Sidney, much of the burden of dealing with a declining parent has fallen on Nell.
Also, with Eric entrenched in his temporary role as a private tech consultant, he wasn't able to be of much support to her, either in San Francisco or back in Ops.
That left Nell having to do it all, both at home and at work.

When Man of Steel first hit theaters back in 2013, a direct sequel seemed inevitable. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a box office success and helped establish Henry Cavill as probably the most popular Superman actor of all-time. Since then, however, plans for another movie in the series have stalled. The actor has reprised the role in other films in the Dceu, but has yet to secure a follow-up to the pic that really put him on the map.
In a recent interview, however, the star hinted that the long-awaited next installment may be coming in the near future. When asked about the movement by fans to see the highly-anticipated Snyder Cut of Justice League, Cavill instead focused on what’s next for Clark Kent:
“I’m always interested to see how that stuff turns out but that is very much a chapter of my past, I would rather...
