I agree with the previous reviewer, Michael J, that this series is not within a country mile of its predecessor "The Closer" in writing, directing, editing, and most of the acting. I don't know what ratings expert decided to introduce "Rusty" to the mix but his presence merely detracts from the main events with his soap opera life events.

Getting a bit top heavy with unlikable characters

This show never will come close to being as good as its predecessor "The Closer".
It has incorporated into it some continuous sub plots that I find very distracting with characters that don't contribute much to the plot of episodes anymore.
"The Closer" had sub plots (the chiefs parents visits for instance) that were amusing and served to lighten the tension of the murders that they were investigated.
This spin-off, at least lately, has subplots that pull the audience off centre.
I have started to mute certain characters and even fast forward through the scenes that they are in.
In this episode another new character is introduced to the chagrin if the principle characters. Its been only a few minutes of hearing her pontificate that I want to exclude her contributions.
Another anti-hero character is not what I want in this show.
Someone needs to reestablish creative control or end it.

Jumped the shark

This is my first time going through Major Crimes. I was and am a big fan of the The Closer. I just never managed to view the spinoff. Now that I'm just about done with Major Crimes' season 5, I realize why they pulled the plug the following year with the declining viewership. I still love the majority of the characters but can't stand some of the subplots. Also the writing had gone downhill with it being too woke in my opinion. Most of all, the character Rusty just grates on my nerves. I do a lot of fast forwarding. He's the main reason I probably will never watch this show again. Oh well, just a little venting.
