Few actors can make a successful jump from the front of the camera to behind it. While stars like Ben Affleck have navigated this transition, Taylor Sheridan has proved that he isn’t far behind. The star who became a recognizable face on television in shows like Sons of Anarchy and Veronica Mars, found his true calling as a writer with his hugely popular series Yellowstone.
Taylor Sheridan in Yellowstone
Encouraged by the success of the show, Sheridan went on to create two prequels namely 1883, and its immediate sequel 1923 which starred Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the lead roles. The series, which has been renewed for a 2nd season, was initially given a different title by the writer, but was subsequently modified following the change in its historical setting.

“Barren Land,” from Spain’s Albert Pintó, director of Netflix global blockbusters “Money Heist,” “Berlin” and “Nowhere,” have been snapped up by Spain’s Film Factory Entertainment.
From an original idea by producer Alvaro Ariza, “Barren Land” (“Tierra de Nadie”) is penned by Fernando Navarro, one of Spain’s go-to screenwriters whose credits include Netflix hits “Below Zero” and “Veronica.”
Film Factory will launch world sales on “Barren Land,” as it builds a powerful slate of upscale commercial packages. Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia will release the film in Spain next year.
Now with principal photography underway in Cadiz, southern Spain, the suspense thriller captures the devastation of friendships, lives and the whole province by a rampant drug trade, action also expanding to the Straits of Gibraltar.

Taylor Sheridan created and acted in Yellowstone
Dillon, who acted in Yellowstone as well as in this thriller drama, spoke extensively about his collaboration with Sheridan and how the Veronica Mars actor’s mentorship guided him to pursue his love for writing. 2023 was a banner year for horror films from across the globe, which deserve just as much praise and attention as any domestic genre triumph.
In a year that’s had its share of ups and downs at the box office, horror continues to be a top performer and one of the most consistent sources of entertainment. Superhero fatigue continues to set in and the ballooning budgets of major studio blockbusters have started to seem more like a curse than a kindness. The film industry adapts accordingly and figures out what audiences want.
However, horror movies have never been more popular and 2023 has been a goldmine of blood, guts, and gore. This year alone has featured grandiose franchise sequels like Scream VI, Evil Dead Rise, Insidious: The Red Door, and Saw X. Even Hercule Poirot has gotten into the horror game with A Haunting in Venice. Additionally, weird and wild local horror releases like Skinamarink,...

First debuting on Netflix in 2021 and releasing its second season in March 2023, the fantasy series Invisible City, created by Carlos Saldanha, has been announced not to return for a third season.
Numerous Brazillian X accounts were Tweeting about the show’s cancelation, but most didn’t name the source. Thankfully, we dug and found that the actor Marco Pigossi was ultimately behind the cancelation news. Pigossi plays the main character, Eric, in the show.
In a post on Instagram on December 16th, the actor doesn’t explicitly say the show was canceled but does bid farewell to his character.

Sadly, those numbers likely weren’t enough to warrant future seasons. Google Trends suggests the global interest in the show was over 50% less going into the second season.

When Paco Plaza's Spanish horror film "Verónica" was released in North America in 2017, it instantly received acclaim for its insidious sense of dread, and for some of its more terrifying images. There is a scene about halfway through "Verónica" where the title character (Sandra Escacena) is walking through her apartment, and a shadowy, ghostly figure is standing in the hallway behind her, merely watching. There's no musical sting, and nothing about the camera placement that suggests the photographer even sees the ghost. Verónica doesn't even seem to notice. And yet it is undoubtedly there.
Like many horror films of recent vintage, "Verónica" is a film about mourning, trauma, and domestic strife. The ghost glimpsed in the hallway may very well be the ghost of her father who passed away recently. Verónica, just 15, wasn't quite permitted to grieve, as she's had to become a more parental figure for her two...

Veteran Spanish actor Ana Torrent was around five-years-old when she was cast in her first movie, the landmark drama The Spirit of the Beehive, by maverick filmmaker Víctor Erice.
Fifty years later, the pair have reunited on a new pic, Close Your Eyes (Cerrar los ojos), Erice’s first feature-length film in over a decade. The film debuts Out-of-Competition in the Cannes Premiere section on Monday.
The film follows a famous Spanish actor, Julio Arenas, who disappears while shooting a film. Although his body is never found, the police conclude that he’s been the victim of an accident by the sea. For an actor, landing a role on a TV series provides steady work in a business in which employment is usually uncertain. If that show becomes a hit, then all bets are off, with the gig escalating to something more akin to winning the lottery thanks to instant celebrity and an often giant salary. Of course, the odds of being cast in a hit TV series can be just as improbable as hitting the jackpot, which is why it can seem puzzling when a star decides walk away from a hit show. Sometimes, it's because an actor has been fired for whatever reason, but on other occasions, the exit comes at the behest of the star, who makes the risky decision to leave a sure thing for an unknown future. For viewers who earn in a year what a TV star rakes in for one episode, this can cause head-scratching,...

We’re mere weeks away from the long overdue return of Starz’s cult hit series “Party Down,” and as the first trailer will prove, we’re delighted to report the gang are all still living that cautionary don’t-move-to-la life, even into their 40s and 50s. I mean, we’re delighted for you, the fans. We feel kind of bad for the characters.
You can see for yourself at the top of the page. It’s been 10 years and ostensibly they’ve all moved on. But after a surprise reunion, the gang find themselves once again stoically enduring the procession of random parties and oddball guests all over Los Angeles.
But time has not exactly been kind. It’s not just that actor/bartender Henry Pollard (Adam Scott) is grappling with the reality that he’s well into his 40s and still doing that for a living. It’s...

How do you solve a problem like Wednesday Addams? On the face of it, the eldest child of the cheerfully goth Addams Family has it made in the shadows: She’s become the clear favorite Addams ever since her shift from a mildly morose little kid on the “Addams Family” sitcom from the ’60s (based on the comics by Charles Addams) to the deadpan comic engine of the “Addams Family” movies of the ’90s (based on both the series and the comics), where she perfectly played by a young Christina Ricci. But Ricci’s success in those Barry Sonnenfeld comedies has meant that future incarnations of the Addams Family have struggled to figure out how to keep Wednesday in the spotlight. A short-lived Broadway musical cast her as a conflicted young adult, yearning for her normie boyfriend and self-conscious about her family’s weirdness; the recent animated movies made her...

It's high time that someone rewrote Andy Williams' hit single "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" to be about Halloween instead of the godforsaken hellscape known as Christmas. With October officially in bloom and everyone currently scrambling to figure out what to wear this All Hallow's Eve, there's no better time to curl up with a good scary movie. (Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.)
The Series: "Veronica Mars"
Where You Can Stream It: Hulu
The Pitch: When "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" went off the air in 2003, fans were left with a longing for a powerful heroine who fought back against injustice. Despite the problematic nature of that series in hindsight, there is no denying what it meant to so many viewers to see a female character like that on television. Though 2004's "Veronica Mars" wasn't based in the supernatural world, it's often been called the spiritual successor to "Buffy" for good reason. Veronica showed us once again that trauma and loss will affect you, but they don't have to define you.
The series ran for three seasons, first on Upn, and then on The CW.

Amanda Seyfried is reflecting on her career and the pressure she felt over shooting nude scenes at a young age. The Dropout Emmy-nominated actor wishes there were intimacy coordinators back when she started as she remembers being put in uncomfortable situations.
“Being 19, walking around without my underwear on – like, are you kidding me? How did I let that happen?” she said in an interview with Porter. “Oh, I know why: I was 19 and I didn’t want to upset anybody, and I wanted to keep my job. That’s why.”
Seyfried got her start in acting in soaps like As the World Turns and All My Children. She would also have a pivotal role in the season-long mystery on Veronica Mars where she played the role of Lilly Kane right before starring in Mean Girls. Alice Krige shines in this dark thriller, a tangy blend of folk horror and post-MeToo reckoning with a salty spike of satire
Director Charlotte Colbert’s first feature, co-written by her and Kitty Percy, brews up a tangy blend of folk horror and post-MeToo reckoning with a salty spike of satire targeting the sort of new age piffle certain entitled rich people swoon over. Protagonist Veronica Ghent is a haughty movie star of a certain age who has come to a boutique resort in Scotland to recover from a double mastectomy, accompanied by a young caregiver named Desi. Unfortunately, the venue is not offering the healing isolation and quiet that Veronica had hoped for. Instead, a guru/artist (Rupert Everett) is in residence with a gaggle of flaky followers and poor Veronica (“I don’t do groups!”) must share the facilities with the crowd as they explore “how art purifies...

In most stories, a princess trapped in tower will need a man to save her. Joey King’s unnamed Princess isn’t like that. Furie director Le-Van Kiet’s actioner attempts to take a female lead and invert The Raid, with her facing off against a seemingly unending phalanx of enemies as she descends the tower where she’s being held captive, prior to her wedding to the evil and ambitious Julius (Dominic Cooper).
Initially, the presence of Joey King and the fact that this film (in the UK) would be launching on Disney+ made me think it would essentially be Enchanted with swords; a stereotypical Disney princess finally fighting back violently. Kiet and writers Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton lean into this a little in the film’s opening, which springs The Princess’ fighting skills on us when guards come to her room. Even here though, there’s an immediate retreat from anything cartoony,...

Transatlantic production label El Estudio has acquired the rights to author Fernando Gamboa’s hit novel “The Last Crypt,” and will work with powerhouse Spanish showrunner and “The Ministry of Time” creator Javier Olivares to develop the book into a high-end TV series, executive produced by Eulogio Romero (“Mitos y leyendas”).
“The Last Crypt,” the first in a three-book series, kicks off when diver Ulises Vidal discovers a small bronze bell buried in a coral reef near the Honduran island of Utila. With help from medieval history professor Eduardo Castillo, they learn that the bell is a Templar artifact, an impossibility unless all the history books are wrong and the Templars did in fact cross the Atlantic centuries before Columbus set off from the Spanish port of Palos de la Frontera in 1492.

CNN had a “Veronica’s Closet” diss at the ready when the actress Kirstie Alley tweeted to her followers on Friday morning that the network overplayed the dangers of Covid-19.
“Kirstie, you are welcome to change the channel – just like countless viewers did every time ‘Veronica’s Closet’ came on TV. But don’t downplay the loss of nearly 230K American lives. And please, wear a mask,” CNN’s PR account tweeted.
Earlier on Friday, Alley — who has been vocal with her support for President Trump — tweeted that CNN made her friends “walk around in Sheer Terror” of contracting the virus.
“I now Know why my personal friends who walk around in Sheer Terror of contracting Covid are simply CNN viewers! I decided to watch CNN myself to get a their viewpoint and oh my God Did I Ever!!!! If You Too Want To Live In Terror Watch CNN!! Fear Of Dying Is Their Mantra!

For much of the world, 2020 has embodied the exact traits of a well-crafted horror movie: twisted, uncompromising, and something nobody really saw coming. If nothing else, the unsettling nature of a year that has been hobbled by both a global pandemic and a divisive election cycle (among other eerie twists) is a reminder that scariness comes in many forms, and the traditional horror formula that many of us celebrate on Halloween is just one piece of the equation. Many of the movies released this year are scary in unexpected ways, either because they tap into timely anxieties or illustrate the precise nature of terror in these uncertain times.
Here are 13 recent disturbing highlights. Don’t watch them alone.
“Antebellum”
Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz’s feature debut may lack subtlety, but often makes up for it with a bone-chilling terror that suggests everything onscreen is very real. The Janelle Monae-starring...

Despite dramatic times, there is room for some encouragement in recent moves by the Spanish film industry. Basque global hit “The Platform” proved the most-watched movie on Netflix in the U.S. The Mediapro Studio is upping film production with high-profile projects such as the Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas drama “Official Competition.” Meanwhile, Mr. Fields and Friends, headed by Bambú founders Ramón Campos and Teresa Fernández-Valdés, debuted with “Malasaña 32,” as well as plans to produce three to five movies every two years. Riverdale Season 4 Episode 9
"He's dead"
And just like that, Riverdale's midseason finale wraps up with the jaw-dropping reveal that Dark Betty killed Jughead.
Say it ain't so Bughead Nation!
Admittedly, I have no idea where this plot is going. Up until tonight I was convinced that Bret and the jerks over at Stonewall Prep were responsible for Jughead's apparent death.. But let's take what we see as the episode closes at face value: Betty, finally fully giving into the darkness inside of her/those serial killer genes, murders Jughead.
This completely blows up the show...which is something I am all for. But also there's no way that a teen drama on the CW has the guts to kill off their A-list leads, especially in such a grim manner.

Greenfield earned a Golden Globe supporting actor nomination for playing Schmidt on New Girl. He also appeared in episodes of FX’s American Crime Story: The Assassination Of Gianni Versace.

Viewers may also recall seeing Greenfield in three different iterations of Veronica Mars — the original Upn and CW series that ran from 2004 to 2007; a feature film continuation; and the Hulu series reboot. He played Leo D’Amato, newbie sheriff’s deputy who befriended Veronica (Kristen Bell) and helped with her detective work.

The first teaser of new horror movie Antebellum brings a chilling concept about being sent back to the American South before the Civil War.
You’ve seen this tale before: a man or woman is accidentally transported through time and has a grand adventure in the past that solves all their problems. That’s been a yarn at least as old as Mark Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court and persists still on Outlander with every new season. Yet these protagonists tend to share a common trait: they can fit into the past. But what if they could not? Or worse still, what if they could, but only in a specific, horrifying role? Antebellum seems to be going there as past and future merge—and that past is the slave-based economy of the American South.
In what appears to be an electrifying idea for a horror movie,...
