A rollercoaster ride
matans-1441916 December 2017
Fasten your seatbelts and get ready to ride the rollercoaster of our protagonist - Kantaro. The show let us into the own private world of Kantaro while he is enjoying various and intriguing sweets across Tokyo. His interpretation of the sweets he eats is refreshing, filling like a sin he commits while enjoying the sweets. Everyone in their lives experienced that sin, so we can relate to his passion for sweets and the way it fulfilled everytime. It's like a magic show for sweets, and we all get a taste of it. Although the story is slow paced, we get a wonderful time enjoying it, giving us curiosity towards the buildup the story goes to and making us want more - like a pack of sweets that ended and gave us a bitter taste of unfulfillment and craving for more. The script is written very well, and the actors are doing great of giving us a fun time watching so casual topic that we seem to forget it is a crucial part of our lives. Thanks for a wonderful time and i wait for more seasons to come!

Sweet Paradise

This is what happens when you randomly watch something netflix recommends after a cooking show.

Kantaro is a serious no nonsense salaryman but with a secret. He LOVES sweets.

Not likes sweets, LOVES them. The show portrays this love in a highly sexual fashion when he's craving then to an ever higher plane as he enters into religious ecstasy with the first mouth full... Then he goes even further as he starts to hallucinate from pleasure.

It's funny, it's weird, it'll make you crave fruits in the middle of the night! watch at your stomach's own peril!

Enjoyable weirdness, with healthy dose of sugar

I love most of the Japanese food-centric shows (usually derived from manga) from recent years. My favorite is still Samurai Gourmet, but Kantaro shares many of the same plot points, such as they are, with that series. These aren't cooking shows, but they feature vignettes about a particular food or restaurant that all end sweetly. Kantaro has a bit more plot and bends a bit more towards food porn and comedy than the others, but it's still highly enjoyable. We all should enjoy a melon sherbet after a long, stressful day, and that is what Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman provides. It's nothing like typical American TV series, so it won't appeal to a huge audience, but if you want something silly and quiet and gentle, you may very well enjoy it. The adzuki beans doing the Running Man to fight off the evil princess was just epic.

Love this show!

Matsuya Onoe is terrific as the book salesman/dessert blogger. Beautiful photography makes every dessert look fantastic. Also like the subplot of the office politics.. his manic boss is a hoot as well. And Tokyo looks great in every shot.

What a great show!

I accidentaly stumbled upon this while looking for something to watch on Netflix with my girlfriend and we decided to give it a go. After we've seen the first episode we could not stop watching. Great attention to presenting the desserts has been paid, and the places and desserts are real! Also, the acting of the main character is fantastic. Strongly recommend!

It's practically impossible to adequately describe this...you just have to see it.

Over the course of many years of watching international films and television shows, I have noticed that when you are looking for something really, really weird it's best to try something Japanese. This is NOT meant in a bad way...it's just that so many Japanese films are unique and...well....weird. With films like "Happiness of the Katakuris", "Boss Koala", "Calamari Wrestler", "Big Man Japan" and "Zebraman", Japanese movies are a great bet when you want something different and odd. In the case of "Saborîman Kantarô", you've got something every bit as weird as these movies...except that it's a television show. So this means LOTS more time enjoying the weirdness than in just a movie alone!

The story is about Kantaro, a very weird but very successful salesman. He is so good at his job that he's able to not only make all his sales calls and lead the company in sales, but he has time to indulge his passion....sweets. So, as he plans his day, he figures out all the best restaurants for sweets and incorporates them into his sales calls. But he also is sure to tell no one....as he's doing this during work hours. Because of this, his food blog is anonymous...though a beautiful co-worker long suspects who he really is.

This really doesn't sound too weird, does it? Well, if you add to this the amazing hallucinations that he experiences when he eats a great dish....then it's really strange. His reactions are almost religious or sexual....and they are ALWAYS hilarious to watch. In fact, the show is funny throughout...with a very dry but satisfying sense of humor. My only regret is that so far Netflix only has one season....and I finished all 12 episodes in one day and am longing for more!!

Wonderful sweetness!

This is a light and sweet dose of sugary Japanese goodness. To enter it is to open the gates of The Paradise of Sweets. Enjoy but in small perfectly measured doses. Our children like it very much. Long live the Sweets Night! Of note, while the plot does take some time to develop, it quickly engulfs you in its sugary complexities (with hints of delicate darkness). Savor appropriately. Thank you. Also, our dogs Sam, Freckles and Pippy seem to like it as well...strong cross-species appeal!

A gem of a show

I watched this after seeing Matsuya Onoe in a Kabuki play (Akadou Suzunosuke). This couldn't be more different but what a charming, sweet and funny series. Everyone is excellent but Onoe is terrific as the mysterious sweet lover. A really versatile and exciting actor. There are some great characters in the office where the main character works including the boss and the girl who is trying to find out who a blog writer of sweets is. The desserts themselves are swooned over and presented like works of art, which they are! The photography is top notch and it's like a travelogue of Tokyo. I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend it.

An acid trip of emotions!
Derache5 May 2019
This is a show that isn't put together well or objectively good. However, in all of it's weirdness, it still manages to have a story, a plot, good characters, and unique ideas.

I would personally highly recommend you watch this show for it's unique artistic styles.
