Golden

Golden is an abandon mining town in Oregon - I've checked it on Google maps and it really does look like it's in the middle of nowhere. This is a new series in UK shown on Really (Oct 18), I have been a big fan of Ghost Adventures (being most believable of these types of shows), but I have felt it has lost its way recently, with Zack's personality taking over the show. And for first 20 minutes I was fearing the worst, Zack seemly getting possessed along with two weird local women. But then it got better, with unknown figures seemly stalking them and strange breathing on the radios. Aaron as always was brilliant. They also visited the Oregon Vortex where let lines meet, which I would love to visit. All in all, a great episode which gives me hope for the rest of this series.

Good for fun, bad on reality.

Warning: Spoilers
I originally thought these guys were somewhat credible in their investigations but after watching this episode it became clear that they are actors using technology to create spooky effects.

Golden is not a spooky place at all, at night or in the daytime, neither is the forest around it, part of that forest is on my property. There are lots of varieties of wildlife in the forest, deer, bear, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, skunks, squirrels and even a cougar that wanders through from time to time, but no witches and no witch camp.

It's clear that they brought many props with them for the filming of the episode, like the so called figures hanging from the ceiling that they claimed are used in demonic rituals, I've been in there literally hundreds of times and nothing was ever hanging from the ceiling. The same goes for the crucifix on the podium in the church, that was never there, not before they came and filmed there and not after they left, so they obviously brought it with them as a prop.

Whether or not they really saw someone walking around is debatable, there are no visiting hours or restrictions on when people can wander around the ghost town, so it's not unusual for someone to be there at night, or perhaps it was just a local trying to mess with the film crew or someone just wanted to pick a couple pears from the half dozen pear trees that are behind the old store.

The only part of the episode that bears any resemblance to reality is hearing noises inside the church, that's very common at night and in the daytime, but not so much in the winter. There's a good reason for hearing hissing and humming sounds in the church, the back wall behind the podium houses a huge nest of honey bees, if you go behind the church in summer you can see small holes all over the back wall with the bees going in and out and it sounds almost as if there's machinery running inside the wall.

There was never a witch camp in the forest here, but in for a short time in 2016 there was a camp in the forest, but it wasn't witches, it was members of the right wing militia group called The Oathkeepers, but they weren't there for very long.

Overall, the episode was entertaining and I got a good laugh out of some their antics to make it spooky, and I really enjoyed seeing that one guy get spooked by a deer. But demonic possession from entering the church? Naaa, that doesn't happen, unless you consider getting married a side effect of possession, in the past ten years there's been about a half dozen weddings at that church. Oh, and Wolf Creek is a very small town, so everyone knows everyone here, and those so called locals who were affected by demonic forces in the church, they're not really from around here, if they were I would have seen them at least once over the years I've lived here.

The last part was a visit to the Oregon Vortex, which fools many people, but there are no actual mystical forces at work there, it's all optical illusions created by the slant of the house and the lack of a visible horizon to orientate your actual position with. The ball doesn't really roll uphill, people don't really get taller and shorter based on where they stand, and anyone can get a broom to stand upright with a little practice.
