Class movie
firoz36510 August 2018
I don't know why people are giving 1 star. Does it really deserve 1 star? Where are we heading ? The director and actors should be given some credit for making such a great movie. Please don't spoil our cinema by bringing politics and hated in such a creative field.

Mandatory that your children watch this, even if you don't...
madhavddas10 August 2018
I created an IMDB account only to write this review. An absolutely fantastic film, with a message that could not be more relevant to the times that we live in, is being deliberately given low ratings just so that people don't watch it. That in itself is reason enough to go to the theatres and give it a go. Just to add, even by cinematic standards, this is a great movie. Sure there are some flaws here and there, however the message that the movie tries to convey, outshines every single one of them. Go watch this movie. Take your children with you. Get educated together!!

Sad to see some people trying to bring down the ratings deliberately.
shilpaktoye6 August 2018
It's not about targetting a certain religion. What should people understand is the fact that it's streeses more on "how to be a better human'.A film like Mulk is something that was needed in the present era.Powerful performances from Taapsee Pannu and Rishi Kapoor, and not to forget Ashutosh Rana(deserves a special mention) takes the film to a whole new level. It's really sad to see that when a film like Mulk, having some real good content,is created, some people try to give 1/10 even without seeing the film, just for the sake of giving it some religious and political colour.Give this one a try.I bet you won't be disappointed at all.

Intense, realistic n thought-provoking film. The very fact that this film is getting
Fella_shibby8 August 2018
Negative reviews n low ratings on imdb proves the film's whole point of prejudices n us vs them mentality. The good acting intensifies the drama, with Rishi kapoor's remarkable performance making a traumatic centerpiece. Tapsee pannu personifies the defending lawyer with typical excellence. Manoj pahwa also stands out as a tormented father. The guy who played the judge was fantastic too. This is the best portrayal of a judge in hindi cinema till date. Also noteworthy is Rajat kapoor's role of an apologetic cop. His hangdog's facial expression was noteworthy. The little boy in a skull cap in Dhoni's jersey was thought provoking. Mulk's strength is that it does not turn away from the ugly truth. Rishi kapoor's end speech, the statement by the judge n Tapsee pannu's arguments were awesome. The speeches r as intense as Pacino's from Scent of a women without getting preachy or melodramatic. The arguments by Tapsee pannu in the courtroom is as intense as Tom Cruise's from Few good men. The director did a masterful job of treating the subject matter with care without the clichés n without any melodrama. Anubhav sinha shud b applauded. That guy has ****s of steel.

A good movie to watch
shantihp12 August 2018
Rishi Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana has done a power packed acting. At the same time, their great acting and presence have overshadowed the acting of Taapsee Pannu. The Storyline is a bit predictable, so the movie is not that great. But such message driven should be watched just for the efforts put in by director and producers. It is a pretty good movie overall, but could have been better with better storyline, and a few twists thrown here and there.

Important movie that could be made better
yusuf-bhiwandiwala16 August 2018
Mulk is what the mulk (India) needs now - to overthrow the communal divide, a heated almost boiling and fatally violent one at that, throughout the nation in current times - to stand against the propagators of such hatred towards fellow countrymen - to stop laughing at silly jokes and slapstick guttural political speeches meant just to belittle and mock the secular fabric of this country.

With such a relevant message, I felt, the movie could have been better written and made. The court case has been attempted to be made life-like but swings between realistic and dramatic abruptly. Passionate speeches by Rishi and Tapsee are not timed well and don't really blend with the situation.

I recommend people to watch it for the message of "We, the people" that it carries. Politicians like the current govt and esp the person at the helm will come, play their dirty politics and go, it is the people who have the power, rather responsibility, to shun the hatred that they are sowing and live peacefully intermingling in a heterogeneous society.

A torchlight in the dark arena
shekharcob13 August 2018
Some of you might have heard "gangs jamuni tehzeb" or "hum log apas mein bhai bhai" , but under that goody goody expression, there lies deep torrent. Our inner hyena comes out and shatters the entire fabric of society. The time which we are passing through , this film testifies our mood and public life which are shrinking in day-by-day.

Some people are giving low ratings deliberatly! Ignore them and watch this movie.
namitbathla8 August 2018
At present, our country is dealing with many problems, but there are few fringe elements who are deliberately creating issues. They really think that by giving low IMDB ratings to such movie, they can make their India a better place. Please guys, this movie doesn't demean other religion. I am a Hindu myself, but I am not a fanatic. You can yourself see that they (giving low ratings) haven't watched the movie by the content of their review. I would suggest each one of you to go and watch the movie, then only you'll get to know who want your nation to prosper (Mulk makers) and who want to spread hate in your nation. (Fake reviewers) This is my first ever IMDB review because I can't see that such good movies, which shows the religions unity, getting such low ratings.

India needs this movie, but doesn't want it
mehtarohit8714 September 2018
Mulk addresses the ever-lasting communal prejudice in India that the Hindu majority chooses to condone and even adamantly argues against. It may not be a perfect film but it definitely is not worth the rating people have forced upon it. If you are not certain about the film, it addresses arguments and concerns regarding the intersection of Islam and terrorism in India. Don't judge it without watching it yourself.

Playing Victim Card
swatichat24 January 2021
Victimizing minority always is not that will be entertained now. We are very well aware of what is a correct course of action for terrorists. History says it all. Pls stop playing the victim card always and learn to live in actual harmony... Worst movie ever... gave me a headache... 🙁

Amazing Movie !!!! Shows what true India looks like.
dedhakkare11 August 2018
This is a must watch for everyone for its excellent storyline and phenomenal performances.

It's sad to see the right wing trolls deliberately bringing the rating down as it goes against their "vision" of India. It is a perfect slap for Sanghis especially in these times where these extreme right wing terrorist are ruining the secular fabric and social harmony in India.

Great work Anubhav Sinha!!!

Indian subcontinental people should think beyond the humanity than religion and only unity and peace can make us prosperous. This movie is a bold initiative and best for the current period of time. Kudos!

A hard hitting and exhilarating saga that effectively talks about some of the burning issues....
fillerruth3 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
MULK is the story of a family facing extreme crisis when one of their own is accused of being a terrorist. Murad Ali Mohammed (Rishi Kapoor) is a respected lawyer in Varanasi and he lives there in an almost century old building with wife Badi Tabassum (Neena Gupta), brother Bilal (Manoj Pahwa), Bilal's wife Choti Tabassum (Prachee Shah Paandya), Bilal's daughter Aayat (Vartika Singh) and Bilal's son Shahid (Prateik Babbar). The Mohammeds are planning a grand party on the occasion of Murad Ali's 65th birthday. His daughter in law Aarti (Taapsee Pannu), married to his son Aftab (Indraneil Sengupta) comes from London and surprises them. On the same day as Murad Ali's birthday, Shahid leaves at night under the pretext of watching a cricket match at Kanpur. Unknown to the family, he has been brainwashed and he carries out a bomb blast in Allahabad, killing 16 people. Shahid is spotted in the CCTV footage and a hunt begins for him. He's finally found and is eliminated by officer Danish Javed (Rajat Kapoor). For the Mohammed family, the world comes crashing down. Bilal is accused of helping out Shahid with the terror attack and is arrested. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Anubhav Sinha's story is excellent and the need of the hour. There are a lot of characters and each of them is well written. Anubhav Sinha's screenplay is highly effective as it keeps the audiences captivated from start to finish. He understands that he has a sensitive topic in hand and treats it very well. He takes up both sides of the issue and that's very praiseworthy. Anubhav Sinha's dialogues are hard hitting and acidic. The dialogues mouthed by Santosh (Ashutosh Rana) might squirm viewers but it was needed to make the impact.

MULK impresses viewers from the introduction itself. After acquainting them with the Mohammed family and the characteristics of each of them, it slowly indicates that Shahid is not what he seems to be. The sequence where Shahid is encountered is quite thrilling. But the scene in the first half that stands out is when Murad Ali refuses to accept Shahid's mortal remains. It's moving to see how he and his family gets branded as terrorists by those who knew him since years. In the second half, the film gets better as the courtroom drama goes on a high. At some places however the pace drops. But the film picks up when Aarti interrogates Murad Ali and asks him some tough questions. Note that this sequence might remind viewers about PINK which had a similar sequence of Amitabh Bachchan forcing Taapsee Pannu to speak up to prove a point. The closing arguments of Aarti are also terrific and surprisingly, even the monologue of the judge (Kumud Mishra) is remarkable and would induce claps from audiences!

Rishi Kapoor delivers a bravura performance, and stands amongst his finest in his long, glorious career. Viewers are bound to move by his plight and helplessness and the way he was obligated to prove his nationalism simply because of his religion. His monologue in the pre climax is very memorable. Taapsee Pannu is quite nice in the first half and in the beginning of the second half, she's a silent spectator to the goings on. But as soon as she takes up the case, she surprises viewers with her glorious performance. It's thanks to her that the climax goes on dizzying heights. Manoj Pahwa is the next best in line. He's always been a fine actor but sadly never got his due. With MULK, he's surely going to be talked about a lot! Prateik Babbar is terrific in a small role. Ashutosh Rana gets into the skin of the character and is quite good as the villainous, communal minded advocate. Rajat Kapoor looks every inch a no nonsense officer and performance wise, he's dependable. Kumud Mishra is subtle yet impressive. Neena Gupta and Prachee Shah Paandya are decent but get scope only in the first half. Vartika Singh, Ashrut Jain (Rashid) and Indraneil Sengupta are fine. Others do well.

Songs aren't required in this film. Only 'Thenge Se' stands out. Mangesh Dhadke's background score is dramatic and enhances tension. Ewan Mulligan's cinematography is fairly decent. Nikhil Kovale's art direction is quite earthy and real. Yasmin Rogers's make up and Preetisheel Singh's prosthetics are excellent, especially in case of Rishi Kapoor. Riyaz - Habib's action is straight out of life, in the lone action scene. Ballu Saluja's editing could have been crisper and better. Few scenes ended and began abruptly and this could have been avoided.

raises some very relevant questions
beevenkat22 August 2018
#Mulk raises some very relevant questions. What exactly is 'terrorism'? Why should it always be linked with one particular religion? Is untouchability also a form of terrorism? What if a young man goes astray n kills innocent people? Can u label his innocent family members as terrorists? Should they suffer for a crime which they havent committed? Should they be coerced to go back to pakistan? Or do they have the freedom to stay back here n prove their innocence? Will they get justice? Good performances by the entire cast. Worth watching. Rating 3/5.

suryavanshi-7520723 February 2021
This movie is completely based on leftist liberal agenda. Muslm tushtikaran and all. India divided into several pieces due to islamsts and now this movie is trying to say that whatever is done by muslms is just a mistake and we should not do anything until whole india becomes pakstan.

Good film. Not sure who's out to get the ratings down
sankalpkhare5 August 2018
I think the rating here at the time of writing (6.something) is undeserved. I watched this today and it was a good movie.

The actors portrayed their roles nicely, the emotionality of the situation was very well captured. The locality where the characters lived, the mannerisms of what might happen in a family in such a place, most of it seemed authentic to me.

And of course, the importance of the message the film carries cannot be stressed enough, specially in these times when the political machinery is out to communalize everything in their greed for votes.

I recommend going to the theater for this one.
