So...can we talk about GOLB??
Mezmerize4 September 2018
I was skeptical that they would be able to wrap everything up neatly enough to make for a satisfying conclusion in just the span of 45 minutes. But oh boy, did they.

I've been watching this show actively since 2012, when I was already 21. It hooked me immediately with its trippy content, balancing weirdness with genuine human emotions in an often really heavy way, while still retaining honest humor. This aspect was always there, but didn't start firing on all cylinders until season 4 when the plot literally thickens (for the seasons started running up to about four dozen episodes) and the genre officially became "high fantasy epic."

Don't let the "open-ended" crap going around fool you, this finale feels very much like the end. I wasn't as emotional during the actual episode, due to the narrative being more "shock-and-awe" than something just milking the fact that it was the finale. It's open enough for a reunion special down the road, but ultimately (no pun intended) this episode was a conclusion. And a very romantic, disturbing, and overall fitting conclusion it was. I've been emotional all morning. End of an era.

I have no words
joseangele4 September 2018
I stoped watching the show like two years ago, but it had a special place in my heart, when I knew this episode was coming, I decided to do a marathon just so I could understand it. This ending was so beautiful, it is simply perfect, so emotional, and also it concludes perfectly the adventure time story. I was eight when I saw the candy zombie party episode, now that I'm sixteen, I have no words, I feel so happy about this, this cartoon has been around for half of my life, that was the reason that I cried so hard. If you were ever a fan of the show, catch up just to watch the finale, if you are in the same place as I am, you will love it.

what an incredible show. And an incredible lesson.
danberdyck6 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Adventure Time is my favorite show. Ever. I'm going to say that right from the start. it's characters and the lessons they learn have so often refelcted people and things in my life that episodes have frequently been cathartic to watch. I couldn't fathom how they would wrap it all up. How they would end it all. And now 3 days after seeing its final island song come from the depths of music hole in its full form, I can't stop thinking about it all, so I have to write about it. Beginning the show with the new, but oh so slightly familiar characters of Shermy and Beth was confusing to say the least. They had characteristics of Finn and Jake. But they weren't them. I noticed the backdrop was a bit gray. everything looked like the land of ooo, but it wasn't quight ooo. suddenly Shermy unearths a rusty old metal arm. A familiar one. I realize this is the future, and I wonder just how far. Shermy and Beth live in marcelenes old pad, it's revealed. They begin to talk of meeting with the king of ooo to find out to whom this arm belonged. I thought for sure it was going to be Finn himself. However, it turns out to be BMO. And i remember Shermy mentions that the king of ooo is said to have lived forever. Which made sense to me a few minutes later. when BMO sees the arm they brought, he stops dead to examine it. Pulling off his crown and clearly remembering something. I realized at that point that this is very very far into the future, and it hits me a little harder than I'd have expected. Finn and Jake are gone. long gone, and the idea that these characters I hold so dear are dead, broke me up a little bit. Finn and Jake are killed off with a time jump. There is No true explanation, and it made me a little sick inside. We always want an explanation, but did we need one? as i think about it now, i don't really think so. BMO goes on to tell an epic story. One last story. Before he begins, he speaks of Finn in a far far back tense. Going as far as to not even quite remember his exact name, calling him Phil. As BMO looks at the arm, he refers to finn with admiration. "He was my best friend, and a great hero". There is a song in the episode. And to me it very deliberately sums up the episodes lesson.

"Time is an illusion that helps things make sense. So we are always living in the present tense. It seems unforgiving when a good thing ends, But you and I will always be back then.

Will happen, happening, happened And we will happen again and again 'Cause you and I will always be back then. You and I will always be back then.

If there was some amazing force outside of time. to take us back to where we were, And hang each moment up like pictures on the wall Inside a billion tiny frames so that we could see it all, all, all It will look like, will happen, happening, happened Will happen, happening, happened And, there we are again and again 'Cause you and I will always be back then You and I will always be back then"

To me these lyrics sum up adventure times view of time itself. no matter what. some things change, some things go away, but through memory we can recall them. In some way or another everything lives on. On a deeper level, for me the characters of Shermy and Beth are learning about their past lives. To me Shermy and Beth were put in ooo to carry on the legacy of Finn and Jake after they were gone. perhaps even their reincarnations, because ooo will always need radical hero's. it's my theory that Beth could even be a descendant of Jake the Dog himself. but The episode goes on to tell of the great gum war. Which is thwarted by Finn who doesn't want to see another fight. after the gum war is ended, another thing happens that's a little bit too much to go into. But to sum it up, there's suddenly an apocalypse on the way, and all of ooo joins forces to stop it. In the process MarcIlene and Princess Bubblegum kiss, and it's incredible for gay representation. Well done there show creators. A satisfying climax to that's storyline. Simon is finally ridden of the ice king curse, returning to his original self, and fern dies, having reconciled with Finn and asking to be buried where the tree house which is destroyed in the episode, once stood. Finn then does as he's asked, and Jake asks if Finn is ready as the two Neal at the foot of their homes remains. Finn nods and drops the little seed into a small hole, and a tree immediately begins to grow. We flash forward to Shermy BMO and Beth, and Shermy is inspired by BMOs story. "What happened after that?" Shermy asks BMO. BMO simply replies "nothing, they lived their lives". They leave BMOs home, and go to the tree where fern was planted. It's grown high up into the sky and beyond the clouds, and the two climb to the very top, to discover a familiar white and blue sword thrust through its top branch. suddenly we cut to Jake and Finn laying by music hole, who says she's been working on a new song that's about "a really specific feeling that's hard to describe". As the classic Island song plays, a wonderful montage begins of all the characters we love. Doing just what BMO said they did. Living their lives. We see Finn and Jake living homeless on a beach and seeing ships on the horizon, as the two wave to and welcome all of the humans as well as Finns mother Minerva who is waving back on a big monitor. We see Simon visiting the cosmic owl and prismo looking for a way to get his beloved Betty back. We see a montage of other characters doing their things and having fun and on adventures. some closure, some new questions to be had from the clip, but like anything it ends. We see Shermy and Beth again. Shermy attempts to pull the Finn sword from the branch, but fails. Beth then grips it quickly, yanks it out, and hands it to Shermy. She tells Shermy to lift the sword, and the two creat a classic pose that Finn and Jake were known for. Shermy lifts the sword with two hands loudly exclaiming "aaawwww yeahhhh!" and it ends. To me that signifies an official passing of the torch. Shermy and Beth are the new hero's of ooo. But then again as i think about it, maybe they are the old hero's of ooo. The lesson I learned from Adventure Time, is that time itself is a human invention. it's not linear. everything that has happened, is happening, or ever will happen. has already happened. is happening now, and already happened. It goes back and fourth and up and down and there's no stopping or pausing it. for a cartoon to teach that lesson, is pretty special. And it's one I'm not going to forget. Probably ever. it makes me feel small, but it makes me feel like I have control of something all at once. It's a confusing but truly incredible thing. So yeah. Come Along with Me gets a 10/10 from me. well done. I'm going to miss all of these crazy weird funny relatable special characters.

A Beautiful Finale
noodlezzhumanzz4 September 2018
Wow. Just Wow.

Even after watching the finale, I'm ranging with emotions of both pure joy and sadness. I'm happy because comparing the finale to the pilot episode, you can see the character development and a fantastic story-line come to an end. It's hard to believe that Adventure Time has been here for a decade. I love how the series didn't end in a sad way nor cliff-hangers; it ended perfectly. This show and the finale will forever go down in history.

The ending that the series deserved, a mixture of suspense, unanswered questions, new questions and cameos from a ton of characters that were throughout the series, but of course, the emotional part hit everyone, a mixture of sadness, satisfaction and happiness mixed, it is the best ending it could've had.

A near perfect finale
aivilovee30 March 2020
It's amazing to see how this show developed from a goofy "kids show" to a very deep and contemplative look at life, love, friendship, sacrifice, leadership, and even war. This finale is a very nearly perfect ending for an outstanding show. I don't think there's ever going to be enough words to describe how much I loved the last fifteen or so minutes, especially. I'm sad that there won't be anything new from these characters, but their endings were beautiful, and I'm glad the creators took such care into making a meaningful and lovely ending.

ONE OF THE BEST FINALS EVER
myvallli9 November 2018
So much history, coming to an end. The end of a precedent giant. With the conclusion for all the previous episodes, it all gets us at the alley for a long fascinating walk. So much gathered together for one last, but long - YESSS, but not enough for fans like me, I'm crying : ) :( - This is the most emotional ending, and episode, show. So compeling, so ... I can't imagine, how it could be more compelling and good as hell. So we come along with you and see the butterflies indeed nothing wil ever end because we love to live.

A fun but rather rushed and unfitting conclusion to Adventure Time
FairlyAnonymous6 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I just want to throw this out there: Adventure Time is one of my all time favorite shows and the level of creativity that is in it is astounding. There is so much that Adventure Time did as a show that revolutionized animation and people think about storytelling differently for kids shows. It was able to tackle heavy subjects but it never made it too obvious. Information was given at a snail's pace and was usually through off-hand dialogue instead of force feeding it through heavy exposition.

Adventure Time just did everything so differently that it is hard to compare it to any other show.

Recap of the show so far:

In my opinion, Adventure Time hit its all time peak somewhere around the end of season 5. The writing was experimental but there was a coherent story still in the works. As we learned more and more about the world the further our interest grew in knowing how it would all conclude. With each season it seemed like the series was really building up to something tragic, cynical, yet fitting for Adventure Time. We knew that Adventure Time would end with everything in chaos as revealed in "Lemonhope Part 2" and "Graybles 1000+", but we just didn't know how that tragedy would come to be.

Unfortunately though, somewhere around Season 7 it became obvious that the series wasn't too keen in following through with the hype it kept on creating. Story points that were brought up would be cast aside in one episode, big arcs that had been hyped for seasons were treated indifferently, and several major character developments were relatively undone. The show was still fun and creative, but it became all too clear that the emphasis on a narrative with satisfying conclusions was not Adventure Time's main goal (though there are still some fantastic episodes in Seasons 8-10) and the show was more interested in creating hype. Examples would be Marceline becoming human and then becoming a vampire again, Orgalorg being defeated so easily, the Lich King becoming undone in a pathetic manner, Jake becoming an alien only to go back to being normal Jake again in the next episode, and many other such conclusions. It felt like the story wasn't able to evolve as much as it needed to.

End Recap

That being said, the finale to the series feels more like a "piff" than a fitting conclusion. I think the main issue is that the show got written into a corner where there were still 30 loose story arcs floating around and they needed to figure out a way to get them all to work. This meant that a lot of moments that should probably have had entire episodes dedicated to only get a minute or so at best, and other moments are completely unfitting.

The highlight of the episode for me was Betty and Simon being reunited and B-Mo carrying Jake like a child. Those were some rather touching moments and it showed the emotional weight that Adventure Time could hold. However, Betty and Simon's story arc is completely undermined by Betty (get this) summoning Golb and then fusing with Golb to make sure she can save everyone from Golb. This is rather frustrating because she is now a chaos deity and it is essentially a role reversal. First Ice King was insane and Betty had to save him and now Betty is a literal deity and Simon can't do anything to save her. To me it kind of comes across as her being stuck in a sort of limbo/hell, but episode treats it like it's a good thing. Also, in previous episodes we got the impression that Golb was an unstoppable force of destruction that symbolized the inevitable demise of everything (a theme in Adventure Time), but here he is played off as maybe a skooch more powerful than the Lich King. There is nothing that Golb does that the Lich King could not do.

The show had also been hyping up PB fighting her uncle, but Jake and Finn manage to convince them to stop fighting. This was neat and all, but then PB's aunt betrays her uncle, takes control, and then stops the war. I'm not quite sure this plot point had to happen, as they were already about to form a truce, but it is very casually brushed aside and treated with little importance (naturally).

Many things happen in this episode that I won't go over but I will mention a couple more points. I'm actually a little disappointed that the fan shipping of Marceline and PB was confirmed. I remember when I first watched Adventure Time it wasn't until I got on the internet that I discovered that people thought there was legitimate chemistry between the two and casual conversations between friends were being interpreted as them being ex-lovers. It always felt forced, but somewhere down the line they decided to go along with that premise and now they completely confirmed it. I guess it's up to the creators to accept fan shipping, but I always thought it didn't quite work.

In the end, everything turns out relatively happy and we get a montage that establishes life after these events. There are more adventures and what not and things continue happily. I think the conclusion of a future adventure duo finding Finn Sword was neat because it means that Finn is technically still going on adventures but as a sword this time. It's a fun ending that encompasses all of the good moments of Adventure Time and reminds the audience of why we loved the show. It's a sweet ending, but...

I will say that I'm still a little disappointed in how this doesn't really connect to Lemonhope or Graybles. The show had built up a theme that tragedy and destruction is an endless cycle and that PB was most likely going to the one to accidentally screw over the world. PB's own insanity/dictator like mentality would cause some sort of war (hinted as alien invaders) that bring about another cataclysmic event. In the future we also saw Ice King was never cured, the tree house had continued to grow, and that a portion of Gumball Kingdom was being stored in giant Prize Ball Guardians (theoretically as protection from some sort of danger). The ending to the show was being built up as a tragic conclusion, but instead we got a pretty happy ending.

Personally, I think a completely tragic ending would've been too depressing and I'm glad that the story shows that the characters could unite and get over their issues, but I just wish it had a bit more edge to it. A mix of tragedy and happiness.

All in all, not the greatest Adventure Time episode, but it still works and made me think of how fortunate we are to have had a show like Adventure Time on the air for as long as we did. It revolutionized TV animation, explored rare and obscure genres, tried experimental storytelling, and went to place no one expected.

It's been a fun adventure!

Everything stays, but it still changes
cobaltarbiter27 October 2019
I absolutely love this ending and the whole series. It's a work of magic (complete with madness and sadness... my sadness) that has earned a place in my heart.

I rarely like endings, because if I like something enough to stick around until the ending, I want more, but this ending was everything I could've hoped for and more. When other series delve into existential themes (with multiverses and cycles and all that biz), they usually sink into them. Not Adventure Time. Come Along With Me is a resounding affirmation of the series' core themes of friendship, harmony, and compassion, and their power to alter fate, to escape inevitable cycles, to overcome the conceits of chaos. Simple and wholesome.

All of Finn's echoes across time-Finn having been Shoko, the Catalyst Comet (agent of change), and an entire food chain-are similar but different. Finn's name may mean end (finish, finite, final), but it means so much more: that heroism can take countless forms over countless years across countless worlds. Wherever a lich or a Golb or a petty monster sows discord, there will be a Finn and friends to counter it. Chaos is defeated by harmony.

Everything stays, but it still changes, ever so slightly, daily and nightly, in little ways...

What an ending. It left me speechless and fully content that all storylines were wrapped up and completed. The whole series was essentially a love story between the Ice King, his love Betty and his adopted daughter Marceline. This storyline was finished beautifully. Loved it.

Warning: Spoilers
One of the greatest animated shows in history has finally concluded and it couldn't have been better! The set up of the episode with Beth and Shermy was brilliant. I will admit to being disappointed at how none of the returning villains had a role at all. Turns out Finn, like Dipper (and Jack), didn't get the girl and neither did Simon as Betty sacrificed herself. Maybe bittersweet endings are for the best. Gumball (from "The Amazing World Of Gumball") got the girl and I think that's enough.

The episode starts with Gumbald moving his army towards the Candy Kingdom while it's being narrated in the future by BMO talking to these new characters, Beth and Shermy. Halfway, the plot switches and a monster called Glob appears. We do get to see an epic battle with all the characters. There will in fact be a comic that later shows what happened next. Eh, Finn (and maybe even Simon) will probably get the girl then. Thank you, Pendleton Ward for giving us one of the greatest animated series of all time! ****

It's all over..... I'll Miss The Show
applesd-960323 September 2018
Man I knew what would and didn't know what happen in this finale. I had several predictions on how the show would end and didn't expect it to be so... well.... let me explain.

First off as much as I want to announce what happen this is a spoiler free review, but let's just say a certain "love" I knew would come. Anyways when I heard the show was gonna be cancelled I binge watched the whole series to catch up and it's even better now as i'm older than I was little.

The faith of these heroes showed why I love the show to begin with and even left a tear for me now it's over. I love this show, I love these characters (Except for LSP) and this finale even though didn't give all the answers satisfies me on how it all comes to an end.

A flawed end to a great series.
clowfdoesthings23 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love Adventure Time, but this ending felt very rushed to me. Everything is resolved so quickly, especially GOLB who fans had been waiting for for a very long time. The dream sequence was fun, but not on par with other dreams in the series. Also, why the Shermy and Beth thing? It didn't seem appropriate.

Anyways, all that complaining aside, there were still some good moments here. PB and Marcy's kiss in particular was great. Their relationship had always had so much subtext so I enjoyed seeing it outright confirmed. Time Adventure (I always laugh at that title for some reason) was a beautiful song. The ending sequence had me in tears. Island song in combination with the future of all the characters was just too much for me.

Anyways, still a good end to the series. I was just hoping for more.

S10 finale: Strong conclusion that pulls away from the obvious
bob the moo2 June 2019
Although it took me some months to get around to watching it, the conclusion to the tenth season, and the series overall, was something I was looking forward to. The previous block of 12 episodes had led the kingdom to the brink of war, and it is this that we expect to be the focus of the final episode, and the reason for everything to end. It starts this way and the first 20 minutes (essentially two episodes) covers this, but does it mostly in a dream state of typical creativity. In this section it offers insight into the characters, not just for the viewer but for the characters themselves. That it is visually rich and funny also helps.

The second half though throws us into a different thread - the one where Simon is the key character; this had often made for strong episodes, as it links to things beyond the now. Although it does feel very much dropped in, it does link a little, and it works a lot. It produces a strong conclusion to many threads, while also allowing them to continue. It is nicely done and pulls the show together way better than I could have expected after so many years and episodes. The framing device of the future works pretty well too, giving hints and red herrings, and giving us plenty of BMO, which is always good.

I could have used more time, to let some aspects breath a bit more, but it is a strong conclusion. It brings out side characters, produces actions, and ends with a reflective tone, and great songs (BMO's world-saving song is great in its melody, but also the importance of it in reminding us that time moves on regardless - and that it will all happen / have happened / is happening). Judging from online reviews it doesn't seem to have pleased everyone - but mostly it seems those unhappy are those wanting Finn to 'get the girl', or upset a girl 'go the girl', or that there wasn't more action for Finn/Jake in regard to the saving the day. For me it worked very well, and I was satisfied with it as the conclusion to the season and the series.

Perfection
tessasex5 September 2018
The series finale does not disappoint. It struck the perfect balance of happiness and sadness, gain and loss, seriousness and silliness, concluded so many loose ends and character arcs, and did it all within a 44 minute time window. Not every question was answered, but that's exactly what makes Adventure Time such an intriguing show. The world is so fleshed out, you never could know all the answers, because new ones would present themselves in the process. This is good writing. Adventure Time will surely go down in history as one of the best and most influential cartoons of all time.
