Great start, a few cringe worthy moments I must admit hence my 8 rating(montage).. but overall great! Sam Heughan IS this show honestly, here for jamie Fraser!

Loved the wedding and the montage of all of the couples. The best scene was when Jaimie called upon all his people and the music was just magical

Good start
rikkeswanette20 February 2020
So far, so good. I love how they incorporated scenes from Jamie and Claire's wedding into Brianna and Roger's wedding because this story will always be about Jamie and Claire. Which is also why I'm really only interested in the sex scenes between Jamie and Claire, the others I could do without. More Jamie and Claire!!

One small thing though. Why did they kill the intro song? The accapella version of the Skye boat song was just weak to me. I used to get goosebumps every time they played that song, but not anymore.

A really good episode overall, which is a relief after season 4.

Best show based on the best books. Every detail of music, sets, costumes, props is created with such love and integrity. Caitriona and Sam ARE Outlander! Please sign them through season 10! Sam's acting is incredible. This show is not usual. It is verra special!

Excellent!!

I loved this episode! I felt the love, and power of the people building on Fraser's Ridge. The emotional, and historic foundation for the coming war is well laid. Sam Hueghan's acting was superb, full of intense emotion, and strength. And the music stirred my soul. With this great start, I am really looking forward to this season. Action, romance, history-this show has it all.

Slow start. Jamie's bangs are gone!
JillsBis23 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first half of this episode was boring for me. The wedding preparations, ceremony, and dancing/celebrating was drawn out, but then I've never been interested in watching weddings on TV. Except for Jamie and Claire's wedding. That was special.

Jamie looks much more attractive now. I'm so glad he no longer has bangs. It was sometimes hard for me to watch him in Seasons 3 and 4 because he was a middle-aged man with a child's hairstyle. Some people have complained about Claire's gray hair and I wonder if they're aware that she's in her early 50's now. The gray hair shows that she has aged since the actress who plays her is 40 years old and doesn't have the face of a 52- or 53-year-old woman.

The end of the episode with the fiery cross ceremony was good. It brought back memories from Season 1 in Scotland.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm sick and tired of weddings on any tv show or movie, super cliché, and this one lasted for almost all the episode... and this season 5, I'm also sick and tired from the music.

Stop the violins already!!!

Great Episode to begin Season 5
sheltontam18 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Really great episode to kick off Season 5. Sam Heughan pretty much dominated every scene he was in. His facial expressions speak volumes more than just the dialogue. He is an exceptionally talented actor who can play a wide range of scenes. Everything from a proud Da/Grandpere to the hot romantic husband to a Highland War Chief to an agonized Godson playing an emotional scene with Duncan LaCroix... who btw also killed the scene. The wedding reception celebration was a great fun scene that Lauren Lyle, Kyle Rees and David Berry. Watch it 1 or 6 times and fall back in love with Outlander again!!!

all the feels
pussycat0818 February 2020
It does feel like the fans have been listened to and they have gone back to basics. This episode focused on the characters and their relationships, setting the season up nicely. But in true Outlander fashion, I'm hoping for lots of action and adventure for them all to overcome, that was missing in season 4.

Excellent series

Each season gets better and better. Episode 501 was superb. Great acting by all cast members, though Sam Heughan was surpassingly great, with a beautifully nuanced performance as Jamie Fraser. 501 does an admirable job of setting up the forthcoming season and is, by turns, romantic, stirring, ominous, funny and evocative. Set design is amazing, in particular.

Nice but some issues
Layla3333317 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very superficial review of this premiere. I really disliked Brianna's wedding dress. It was coarse, almost like burlap, and the beige color was odd and not flattering. I know they could have done better, remembering how much effort was put into Claire's wedding dress. Brianna didn't look much different than usual on her wedding day so it was odd that Jamie appeared so breathtaken (made up word) when he saw her. Also, what is wrong with Claire's hair- it does not need to be so frumpy and unbecoming- not to mention obviously fake. It doesn't do justice to her beautiful face. I was hoping they'd get that straightened out this season. She's become an uninteresting wallflower and no longer compares to the strong, fiery heroine she was in the first couple of seasons. Jamie's now the main hero of the story- which is fine, he deserves it. In this role he's the most beautiful person I've ever seen, top to bottom and inside and out. And his hair looks good. But they are not as interesting as a couple this way, now that he completely overshadows her. I loved seeing Jamie in a kilt again, but wish the whole outfit and hair more closely resembled what he wore in season 1, rather than a hybrid between a new world frontiersman and a highlander - that would have been more impactful. At any rate, the fiery cross scene was very nice, harkening back to the now extinct clan culture, and allowing Jamie to be Laird again.

Best episode in a long time
jodiespokes18 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Explores all the central relationships, Jamie's inner turmoil, Roger gives someone a very brilliant piece of his mind. And a very sad divide forms between Jamie and Murtagh. The music was excellent, just what was needed after a long Droughtlander.

Season 5, Episode 1, The Fiery Cross
margaretdaly18 February 2020
Just when I think this show can't get any better it does. Each episode is better than the last. The show makes you laugh, cry and run a full gamut of emotions. There are historical battles, a love story for the ages between Jamie and Claire. The costumes, the acting, the beautiful filming sites are outstanding. If you haven't seen it, you need to. This episode finds Jamie between a rock and a hard place as to how he will keep Govenor Tryon happy, yet keep his Godfather Murtagh safe. You get to see a wedding, which was beautiful, a reconnection between several of the main characters and and a burning of the Fiery Cross. I won't tell you why, you'll need to watch the episode for that.

browningsara17 February 2020
The interactions and relationships of all the characters make for an episode worthy of multiple viewings even within one day. It draws from the past and reached toward the future. You can see in this episode that Jamie is the king of men. Great performances by all. Great set, great music, great writing, great casting.

Give Sam Heughan All the Awards!!

Warning: Spoilers
Loved every moment of this episode. Getting Brianna ready for her wedding by her loving parents, the wedding itself, old friends and new ones, the settlers of the ridge, the sense of community on Fraser's ridge, Jamie and Tryon, Jamie in his kilt, the calling of the men, Jamie and Murtaugh (those tears...). It was incredible. I still am amazed at how much detail goes into each beautiful episode. Each season is a masterpiece of costumes and settings. Why this TV series in not more main stream and popular is beyond me.
