Gold to the penniless
xdeathbytreex23 July 2018
The first time I saw this movie, I had to watch it a few more times in only a matter of hours, showing it, recommending it, to everyone I knew that was desperate and famished and requiring an uplifting and overwhelmingly hilarious film. Though the plot pays homage to the stylistic cliches of several Christmas movies or coming-of-age adventure films it is anything but ordinary: it is a masterpiece of dada, of absurdity, so pure, heartfelt, and evocative contained to a mere hour and twenty minutes. The screenwriting is perhaps the best feature of the film - each line is witty yet natural, and the chemistry between the characters enables the conversations to involve the viewer. Sprinkled with 80's hits yet set in the future, the film combines, rather than juxtaposes, a range of western culture in a humorous way. It's a work of art. It's a work of art so hilarious and beautiful and I have to say, it has changed my life profoundly.

Comfortingly surreal

A very wholesome and odd film. I always come back to it when I need a laugh or some perspective.

The Ghost of Christmas Gold

Warning: Spoilers
You can put the gold anywhere.

You can walk the Pacific Highway from Malibu to Winter Solstice.

Take your friends and laugh, and laugh, and laugh...

This cast of expert witnesses of the miracle of comedy has transgressed every genre. We want more.

Jesus is your Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather. You have to guess who he impregranted, while giggling and oops, just a little fart. We can trace the genes from Silverlake to the North African Tribes of Libya on the Mediterranean Coast 7,000 years ago. And what was Moses thinking?

As a primarily matriarchal form of comedy/religion, let us just laugh, and laugh..... and laugh - like Jackie Washington at Liza's piano bar sing-a-long.
