Cliche but enticing
TalkativeMockingjay22 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Throughout this episode we see a lot of interesting scenes. One powerful scene I adored was with us seeing Lena's true power in the hack race between the sister of the twins. It showed us that Lena isn't just some face of a company and that she can do bad all on her own which I'm sure all of us love to see. I loved seeing the interactions take place between the discrimination and how Aliens are mistreated and how there was a transgender character playing an important role to emphasize that there is justice that needs to be taken place for everyone. Finally, I do feel as if one scene was cliche and had lazy writing. Of course there is that ONE security guard who gets talked out of freeing the evil antagonist which apparently makes no sense because they are so dangerous yet you have one person watching over. Anyways I'm exciting to see the "Ultron" of Supergirl and hope that the season gets less cliche as we watch it.

Pluses and minuses

I thought the main characters did a good job here. I applaud the show for the message their addressing.

However, parts are ham-fisted and the villains except for Agent Liberty are pretty bad.

Important themes imbedded into the episode.

Supergirl

Episode 4.02 (3.5 out of 5 stars).

The second episode is finally picking up with the story. With National City under a crisis politically. As the city finds out the President may be an alien. And the bad guys are trying to break the truce the people have the aliens.

I did feel like this episode is trying to be relatable to the real world situation politically wise. The episode does deliver some exciting action. The characters are still fun. I do feel like the bad guys are still shallow and empty when it comes to development.

Why are people surprised?
ekohn23 October 2018
It's annoying to see people complain about this show being political when superheroes and their comics have ALWAYS been political. Avengers were ALWAYS anti-nazis, X-Men we ALWAYS about mutants (metaphors for social outcasts) versus bigoted humans, and in Superman & co. comics there were always issues that revolved around alien/refugee stuff. Seriously, don't complain about a show DOING IT'S JOB!

Review of the episode: This was probably one of my favorites ever. Kara's journey as Supergirl was moving while her story as Kara Danvers was hilarious. It was nice to see James being a hero like he should have always been--no more Guardian nonsense. Alex was great, along with her newfound friendship with Brainy. Nia is really growing on me and I liked the little sparks between her and Brainy. Lena was amazing as always, not only intellectually but by also being a total badass. Of course the Lena/Kara chemistry is always unparalleled. Eve is starting to grow on me as well, while the new villain Mercy intrigues me. Overall, solid plot and great episode!

Hero brings hope
wikzonenicho22 October 2018
This is what I came to this show for. It has a very comic book feel and it is relevant, to the very day that it aired! It shows Americans are more than just the stereotype it calls for. America is diversity by definition.

Loved it!
lovablexreader23 October 2018
This episode was a breath of fresh air. The Supergirl writers made a good decision when they stripped the show of its less important characters like Winn (although I loved him) and Mon'el. Now, they've introduced new and fun characters like Nia and Brainy! Not to mention the high-quality dialogue in this episode. It was perfect. Humorous yet poignant; it kept my eyes glued to the screen just to see what would happen next in Kara's adventures. I also loved Kara's interactions with Lena. It's great to see two strongly-written characters come together, a recipe for awesome scenes. Keep up with giving us Kara and Lena, and you've got my views for the rest of the season!

A parody of America!
pirlo200422 October 2018
As a huge fan of all things DC, this really pains me. I mean, I'm not even American and the political slant on this show has been driving me mad, but this was the first episode I actually couldn't finish, it was that annoying!

I'm not even sure where the story line is between the political agenda, terrible lines and the most horrendous fight sequences you're ever likely to see, it's like it's written to brainwash children. It's so, so poor.

I feel sorry for Benoist, as she is incredible and should be given better material.

I'm not hear to try and change your mind on watching this show. If you're a leftie you'll naturally support it, if you're on the right it will drive you insane, but what about the rest of us? The non Americans, the people in the middle? As it's driving us insane too.

It needs to dump the politics and focus on decent storylines that the character deserves! But I think its stall is set and I just can't sit through anymore.

And if you do like good tv, do yourself a favour and watch Daredevil season 3, a show that writes for the sakes of the characters, without bias or agenda.

Very Important lessons and an amazing episode!!
arrow-2459122 October 2018
This episode is probably one of my favorite Supergirl episodes. It was an amazing episode and it taught so many very important lessons for me. Don't listen to those people who say it was a political lecture it wasn't at all. It was about how even if people are different they are still human and you need to accept them for who they really are.

Absolutely Amazing
taniabuonaiuto24 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The plot of the season: brilliant, because it's clearly a call for what's happening in this world right now Kara/Lena: Hilarious, Lena not knowing that Kara is SG and doing everything to protect her favorite person was adorable Nia: The introduction of Nicole to the cast + having Nia as a transgender woman is absolutely amazing , can't wait to see her as a hero and what's going to happen between her & Brainy Brainy: protect this child at all cost, he's too good for that time Alex: badass Danvers need a better intern security Kryptonite in the air: I'm worry, not that much because you know, SG can't die. Agent of liberty: I'm curious of what's the story behind that mask.

Is Supercorp possible?
sambamsammie25 October 2018
So many parallels to Lois and Clark it's kinda funny. I used to like Kara/Mon el, but I think I've seen the light...Supercorp was better and endgame all along...I'm just as surprised with myself as anyone reading this!

Great idea, poorly executed.
danwilberforce22 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I strongly applaud what Supergirl is trying to do by incorporating stories about immigration, sexuality and gender, but I wish they could learn to handle these topics in a more intelligent and thought provoking way (Buffy was a great example of how to do this), instead of this poorly written, preachy nonsense.

I found myself constantly cringing at the clunky "woke" dialogue in this episode. The whole thing just felt like such a wasted opportunity, one that could've helped viewers understand each others' views and opinions and explore the motivations behind them. Instead the viewer is force-fed liberal rhetoric and those who fear the aliens (immigrants) are simply portrayed as villainous thugs. Yes these people exist in life, but a vast majority of them are just scared of change and what it might mean for their livelihoods and their way of living, something they touch on only very briefly at the end of the episode (hopefully this will be explored more later on in the series). Yes it's terrible some people can't see the benefits of multiculturalism in society and just live in the fear perpetuated by the Trumps and Yaxley-Lennons of this world, but if your goal is to enlighten people you're going the wrong way about it.

I also believe Jimmy's initial inclination to remain impartial was correct, but no, as a result of quite possibly the most awkward, cringe worthy conversation in Supergirl to date, he throws out any sense of logic and professionalism and decides to write a biased editorial. He's meant to be the editor of a NEWS company ffs! Their job is to report things as they happen without bias, not take sides, something that is all too prevalent in our own media these days.

Amazing. Would love more episodes like this. Loved the supercorp scenes and nia talking about being trans and standing up for people who can't stand up for themselves.

Favorite episode ever!!
nikkikaplans25 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A purely great episode where Kara seemed to be back to her normal self (not the less than savory version of herself from 3b or whenever she was around mon el). Alex and J'onn were great. Brainy, Eve, and Nia are definitely starting to grow on me. James is a hero where he should be. No mention of Lames (Lena/james) bs and no more Guardian. Good balance of comedy and seriousness. Great chemistry between Supercorp (Kara/Lena), but that's a given. Hopefully those two can get together in season 5, I'm rooting for them! Break the Super v Luthor mold!

Amazing Chemistry!
jasonttodd27 October 2018
This was definitely my favorite episode yet! The chemistry between main characters Kara and Lena has been amazing since 2x01 but it has just gotten better and better. They both clearly care about each other deeply and it shows in how protective they are of each other. I loved Lena trying to be the one saving Kara this time, it was really refreshing and fun to watch! This was truly the best episode exploring Lena and Kara's relationship yet, I'd love to see more like this in the future.

Wait, Is Trump President Marsdin or SuperGirl?
MiketheWhistle24 October 2018
Having politics in shows isn't unexpected. What I find funny is that you can hear Trump sound just like Marsdin, Marsdin's critics, and SuperGirl. So I guess that means Trump is all things good. lol

Warning: Spoilers
Oh boy. This was not a great episode. The whole Nia thing, feels completely shoehorned in. Lena not knowing Kara is Supergirl after this episode is an absolute insult to intelligence.

It was not all bad. The main story idea is good. But this episode made big mistakes.

Get over it
elizabethkeckert13 May 2020
This is a very good episode. People who are whining about an "agenda" need to get over themselves. This show tackles lots of social justice topics and has since day 1. If you don't like it, go watch some bootlicking cop show.

THIS IS NOT A SUPERHERO SHOW
brennantracey22 October 2018
I wonder if there was a global sigh during a certain scene within this episode. Please please CW! Stop with the PC nonsense, it's actually nausea inducing now. Every episode is filled with lectures and complete nonsense, why?! Don't you understand that most of us comic fans watch this to learn about our favourite characters and their journeys, it's called escapism but you're making it impossible and unbearable to watch!!

Liked the overall story, but do we REALLY need lib politics in EVERYTHING?
Joseph-Molion22 October 2018
Patriots and nationalists bad, dreamers good, undocumented immigrants have the right to move in wherever they want to.

That was the entirety of this "plot".

"I wanted to go with red but they told me blue was more presidential". Could try to be just a tiny bit less obvious with your political agenda?

Crowbarring politics into a show that's supposed be an escape from reality will be this shows demise I already had to bail on Arrow and this show is quickly losing its appeal

Warning: Spoilers
Love this review from a fellow disappointed reviewer; 'This episode is just another hollywood liberal left pushing their propaganda onto everyone. And I say propaganda because it's pretty much all misinformation! So, now we have another TV show ruined by people who are out of touch with reality. Another show I'm no longer going to watch. Way to go liberals, you keep making movies and tv shows that are getting fewer and fewer viewers.'

Another show ruined, Left brain washing to please minorities. Well done as the majority of Marvel fans just want Original stories from original comics. Now fans like me who watch/read Marvel, who have been fans for 20+ years, the days when you were called a nerd and bullied. Now we are seeing politics and Left views pushed on us. We read and watch to escape from modern day life, and stress. D. C , please save us..

PS Rest in Peace Stan Lee, you Hero and Legend.

Too Political!
retouchpes25 October 2018
I watch TV so I can get away from this. This is just another way that they are trying to brainwash kids with their own political agenda. The fact that they also deceided to add a transgender character, is obvious that this show is heading down the path of politics and political correctness.
