Sham contracting to avoid medical costs? To heck with you McMahon
KpopSucks21 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode never fails to raise a sad tear or two. I loved wrestling back in the 80's and 90's and seeing how many of those champions passed away young for various avoidable reasons makes me sad and angry. Sham contracting is what we call it here in Australia, when employees you don't want to pay any sick leave, annual leave or retirement (superannuation) benefits to. It's illegal because of the terrible things employers were getting away with it, yet in the US Vince McMahon is a billionaire because of it. I hope the lawyers figure out one day how to hold him accountable for wrestlers welfare and they can at least get enough of an off season to recover with full medical bills covered.

Highly recommended.

strawmanning it

Wrestling is performance. It's scripted performance stunt work. They're essentially stunt performers. Not sports people. Compare them to film stunt performers and tell us what that line of work does, not what the NFL do. I enjoy John's comedy but it's no excuse for being the fabricated argument they rally against so vocally in the show. Part of the problem or part of the solution? The Last Week Tonight crew can't seem to make up their mind.
