Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: You Are Cordially Invited (1997)
Jadzia is a disgusting obnoxious floozie!
On a dime it seems she sleeps with a couple of men (Morn?!), gives attitude to Warf's moms and ruins their wedding. Of course they can't leave it at that right? So the wedding goes on anyway.
Martok comes in with foolish words to counter the wise decision of Warf, and it's just juvenile, unconvincing and myopic. Awful episode, and it's insulting to those blessed with the gift of thought.
They want me to say more so I'll ramble a bit I guess to meet their implemented rules. Why they felt the need to force this upon us I'll never know. Martok: 'Just marry her cuz being with a woman of no virtue is better than being alone'. Yeah- great advice.
Manhunter (1986)
Psychological shapeshifting is bad for one's health
There are many reviews here on this that should give you an idea about the film, enough to help you decide if you want to see it or not, so I won't bother with that. I write in order to add something I did not read here.
Petersen's character 'becomes' his mark in order to solve the crimes, something that understandably gives him much in the way of psychological issues. How much? Toward the end of the film we find out. His 'visit' in order to 'see them' tells the story. He resists but the movie makes it clear how affected he really was. It's done subtly, not insulting the intelligence of the audience. It raised my rating a star by itself.
Saturday Night Live: Kevin Kline/Bobby McFerrin (1988)
It's a good'un
Kline was great with the cast, good skits, and coming from a lifelong musician Bobby McFerrin is something outside my ability to completely comprehend. His last note was actually two simultaneously. Remarkable. They require more so let me add some info on McFerrin.
Bobby McFerrin is a 10-time GRAMMY Award winner who has blurred the distinction between pop music and fine art. His exploration of uncharted vocal territory inspired a whole new generation of a cappella singers and the beatbox movement. From his trailblazing, solo a cappella performances to his inspired collaborations with Chick Corea and Yo-Yo Ma, his iconic global No. 1 hit "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and his work conducting top-tier orchestras, McFerrin's calling has always been to connect people through the unlimited possibilities of music. McFerrin redefined the role of the human voice with his experiments in multi-tracking, his collaborations, his improvising choir Voicestra, and his legendary solo performances.
La nuit du 12 (2022)
While watching the left hand, what is the right up to?
The Night of the 12th is not a horror film like I thought it might have been. It is a voyage of discovery, for the characters as well as the viewer. We get the tagline "It is said that every investigator has a crime that haunts them, a case that hurts him more than the others, without him necessarily knowing why. For Yohan that case is the murder of Clara." It suggests that the murder remains unsolved, but since it is delivered in the midst of the film those of us taking it in hold out hope for a resolution, for the crime to be solved.
There are very real characters in this movie smartly delivered by a well chosen cast. They show us real life. A woman is murdered by being burned to death, the masked killer choosing to throw a flammable liquid on the victim on a dark night- the 12th, then setting it and her ablaze. Our protagonist is a newly appointed chief detective investigating the case who initially finds no culprit despite a thorough investigation. We rejoin him and his fellow detectives three years later where a judge prompts him to pick up the case again just prior to the 3rd anniversary of the murder.
We are convinced the movie is abut the murder case, but when the end delivers no guilty party we are forced to recognize that all along the movie was about other themes. At one point our protagonist comes to the realization that there is something very wrong with the relationship between men and women. Later one of the new underling detectives, when asked about the motivation for her choice of police work shares that, as James Brown put it, 'it's a man's world'. That men do both most of the murdering, and the solving of murders.
This case that haunts our lead effects his daily actions and choices; it restrains him from moving on with his life in ways outside of the case. In one of the final scenes of the movie the new underling detective says she is unafraid of ghosts, and that while the dead remain among us they are the impetus for the good deeds we do. This brings great comfort to our lead man and allows him to move on from the constraints placed upon him by the unsolved mystery.
The murder case was only the setting for the real story, which was rising above these self-imposed psychological restraints, the flower our man finds among the dead weeds.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore (2023)

The episode started out great. Interesting stuff with Planet Mandalore, the dangers that awaited etc. Good action, nice plot etc, but then it went wrong- oh so wrong. "The Legend Of The Superb*tch" came to pass.
Our protagonist found himself in a bit of trouble, and who came to the rescue but Katee Sckhoff's 'Bo-Katan'!! Once was not enough you see- it had to be twice in one 20 min episode! Firslty I cannot stand Sackhoff whose overacting is annoyingly arrogant seeming. She is the TV version of Brie Larson- completely intolerable. Why, oh why, did they hire this person?!
After the first save when Pedro Pascal's character comes to he asks what happened. "I saved your life" our intolerable female lead announces with arrogance dripping. When men saved women this never happened, but we viewers need to have wamen drilled into our brains over and over and over ad infinitum.
When will they understand that viewers do not want manly women to save the day? We want complex capable characters for sure including women, but can it be tolerable and believable please? Why not?
1883 (2021)
Too girly- not for men
Why did they do this? It's the old west so why did it have to become a romance? I had to abandon it after episode 4 or 5 when I saw that I was hitting the 10 second forward button over and over again. If they want violin music it should have been a fiddle. Clean clothes? Really? Not for men that like man shows.
They want me to write more to post this. I don't really have much more to say. I was also disappointed with the girl power and interracial aspects. Every show must have these I guess or they can't be made though. Not representative of the old west, womanly. It may have gotten better I dunno, but suggest it to your woman- she'll probably love it.
Yellowstone (2018)
Who are we supposed to identify with?
The best of them are murderous scumbags. Rip is trash, and really just needs to be dragged into the middle of a field in the night and buried. I find myself rooting for the opponents to YR. Wish the kid would find a gun, use it on Rip and take the whole camera crew and show with him on the road.

I never liked Denny
She's too quick to kill, only concerned about herself, refers to herself in 3rd person- no one would be able to tolerate her presence in real life.
Cobra Kai (2018)
There seems to be only two 'good guy' characters
The young lady LaRusso and wife LaRusso. I watched the freebies to the 3rd episode of season 2. I'm left wondering who the good guys are supposed to be. I thought it was Lawrence's son but he is only motivated by anger and hate. So it's gotta be Daniel San yes? Nope, he's blinded by the chip he went out of his way to place on his shoulder considering he won the conflicts. He's not concerned with patching things up with Lawrence and Son, see's others as evil bit pays no attention to his own behaviors.
Johnny and Daniel are both a mixture of good and bad, and I guess if I identify with any of them it is with Johnny: a man trying to piece his life together using the only tools he has ever learned. The road to hell is paved with good intentions as they say, and we see that with Johnny. And LaRusso- where did all his mysticism, meditation etc get him? No further than his despised enemy. Inner Peace- you're doing it wrong.
The series is still good, don't get me wrong, and In get the feeling that the way it was left that Daniel and crew are going to do their part to make things right. Of course he had an excellent chance when he met Johnny again- that first time in a long time meeting, but instead he ridiculed Johnny and treated him much the way Daniel is treated by his car selling competition. Then we get to see Daniel San unleash a host of sleazy business practices in order to harm his hated enemy. I guess that night he trimmed his bonsai with a chainsaw and spied more on his daughter.
If their intention was to display a more balanced look at the characters and allow the viewer to decide on things well, this viewer decided it's a museum of disgusting behaviors and the rest of the series, if it's any kind of reflection of reality, should be used making amends and working on themselves so that they might not be a danger to others.
Fools Rush In (1997)
Light humor, low drama and metaphysics in the desert
When this film was released in 1997 it was a mere footnote and has since virtually disappeared entirely. Had it been released today in the year 2010 it may have been considered the savior of the rom-com genre. As bad as the movie is the ultimate fate of the romantic comedy was worse.
The movie misses on almost every level- it was miscast, had few laughs and only paid lip service to the supposed underlying higher theme of the hand Fate has in our lives. Our female and male leads are pros and do what they can to rise above this mess but we can only expect so much. The movie has cute moments as well including a race relation analogy utilizing squirrels. Despite that and the charms of the individual leads there isn't enough chemistry present to make it work. It stays fairly true to established romcom blueprints, but the movie misses on some real opportunities like a scene featuring Matthew Perry's character finally getting the approval of the father.
The real star of the movie is Las Vegas itself. Shown here is a softer, less known side of Vegas in breathtaking panoramic shots, far from the lights and showgirls, and if the film succeeds anywhere it's in it's ability to immerse and intoxicate the audience with the visuals. Against that backdrop we are treated to a glimpse of a Mexican American family that has a very genuine feel to it. If you mourn the death of the Romantic Comedy and you've exhausted the finer examples of the genre then maybe this one is worth a gamble. Oh yeah Salma Hayek is in it. =)
