Chicago Med: Heavy Is the Head (2018)
Overdone
Dear writers, please please please retire the tired overdone, oft repeated trope of the evil heartless new boss having a (insert body part to be measured / body function being performed) contest with the old team. Can you really not think of anything new?
I doubt someone as *street* smart and academically smart as Will, wouldn't know his dads old mate was a gangster, surely that would be something all the *old neighbourhood knew*
The infallible Dr Rhodes wins again, yawn.
Only giving it a 5 star for the Dr Manning, Blonde Bob newbie storyline, which at least was kind of interesting, although obviously your opinion of that will fall on which side of the theological debate you side.
If god gave you a miracle baby, wouldn't you expect him to look after you? Or is this another test of faith, by bearing suffering your faith is being tested. And of course if you know the biology and facts of a situation, wouldn't you bend a rule to save a life of someone you thought was relying on blind faith?
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Ethics (1992)
Grotesque
Skip it.
It could have been an interesting episode but it massively misses the mark for me personally.
The episode falls into the classic TV trap of trying to talk about disability but not really knowing what it is trying to say.
Worf becomes disabled and wants to die, I can not believe in a society as supposedly advanced as the federation that the use euthanasia for life limiting or terminal cases of illness had not been decided, sanctioned and regulated already.
The visiting doctor (only interested in advancing her study rather than the best interest of the patient), and doc Crusher (only interested in her definition of medicine rather than the best interest and wishes of her patient) clash.
Troi basically telling Worf to suck it up for the good of his son.
Worf, not swallowing his own "Klingon pride" for the good of his son, who has already lost a mother lets not forget.
The whole episode falls flat without really answering the questions because of course with the magic of TV plot armour Worf gets better anyway, a reality that few in real life will achieve .
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Galaxy's Child (1991)
An uncomfortable episode.
Lots of reviewers commenting on Geordi being a creep, no one picked up on the fact he mansplained how to examine a particular part of the ship she helped design?
Then he has the audacity to get snarky at the real Leah (a woman he met only a day previously) for not being as warm and inviting as his holo babe Leah "every time you touch the engines you're touching me".
Then she apologises to him, unbelievable!
The other storyline involves the hapless humanoids wandering up to wildlife it doesn't understand with tragic consequences when they kill a pregnant space pasty.
PSA please don't interact with wildlife its not hunkering down for a head scratch its trying to make itself look small and hide.
The Big Bang Theory: The Stockholm Syndrome (2019)
Disappointing message
Another viewer disappointed in the final message regarding children in relation to Penny and Leonard Some people do not want kids, and that is fine, it was really nice to see that representation in the previous episodes. But the writers totally bottled it and in the worst way possible. Penny didn't change her mind in a considered , mature and thoughtful way, she got pregnant by accident in an irresponsible manner and that is a massive disservice to the character growth Penny showed over the shows run. Its a horrible message to finish the show on.
The rest of the episode was twee and overly sentimental but also understandable.
Flood (2007)
2 tanks
I watched the 2 part version. I had no illusions I was going to be watching a cinematic masterpiece so found it generally enjoyable but... You go to a potentially flooded installation.. with 4 people ..and somehow only take 1 dive tank? Special effects were a mixed bag and there were some decent acting performances from Whalley, and Hardy.
The daughter was a bit cringe. Oh and the army/airforce want to blow stuff up, rather than you know, let the hero scientists/ engineers save the day, which is standard for this type of thing.
Overall pretty watchable.
Bones: The Strike in the Chord (2016)
Missing the point - re the *fat* girl
The reviewers trying to defend the episode are entirely missing the point.
***Contains spoilers for other episodes***
The fact is the episode (arguably the whole show) is fatphobic, they CHOSE to cast a larger girl, the only larger intern we ever see, as a complete failure. This is one of hundreds of micro expressions that people are bombarded with shaming body inclusivity.
A few other examples in this very show
Howard Epps mother, created a monster, smells of fungus - Played by a very large lady.
The human candle episode, mocks the eater/ feeder lifestyle, the victim while thin now, committed fraud to get thin.
The entire *fat Pam* incident
The entire main cast is thin, to the extreme in the case of Cam Saroyan.
That is what people are complaining about.
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Boom (2018)
Justice!
I mean as an episode of NCIS it was pretty boring fare, but the opening scene, a delicious piece of cathartic release to see two parcel thieves get just what they deserve, who hasn't wished that ending on those who have just walked off with goods that are not theirs.
New Amsterdam: Sabbath (2020)
Ahahahaha
Oh my goodness
For the reviewer complaining about continuity ....
That's not Reynolds... its Dr. Myron Ayton played by the lovely Eric Payne but I kind of think that your mistake might underscore the episode a little bit.
New Amsterdam: Croaklahoma (2019)
Fractured healthcare
More adventures from Americas fractured healthcare system. Todays lesson : Chose not to need a transplant if you can't afford the aftercare for life.. Oh and if anyone wonders the Catholic Church.. is worth 30 billion dollars, but hey you wont go to hell for divorcing in this very specific circumstance.
S.W.A.T.: Los Huesos (2019)
Extremely disappointing
Looked like it was a great episode that further developed Stephanie Sigman's character, unfortunately the lack of English subtitles made it impossible to watch. I actually applaud doing an episode in a characters natural language but the lack of English subtitles... baffling decision and extremely disappointing.
Baywatch: Now Sit Right Back and You'll Hear a Tale (1992)
Unwatchable
Dreadful, unwatchable, dire, appalling, I skipped most of it. Some "beloved" vintage things should just stay in the past.
Robin Hood (2018)
Well I kind of loved it.
I love the Robin Hood tale and over the years have watched probably every iteration multiple times. I was initially excited by a new Robin tale, but was dismayed by the reviews when the film eventually arrived. It put me off so I left watching it for awhile. When I eventually sat down to watch it.. I loved it.. no its not the best Robin Hood (Richard Todd and I will fight anyone who says otherwise) Yes it is a different tale, it looks different, but that is because it is not a historical documentary or a remake of all the other Hoods already made, its a reimagining of Robin Hood with a new concept for costume, set and story. It is entertainment and it certainly entertained me.
Stargate: Atlantis: The Long Goodbye (2006)
My most hated Atlantis episode.
During my frequent viewings of Stargate Atlantis there is one episode I always skip and this is it. I just hate everything about it. While I appreciate shows try to give us different viewpoints and try to make us think at the same time entertaining us, I fundamentally hate the idea that some people are so consumed with vengeance and hatred that they will try to destroy innocent people to get one up on the other. I headed this review as my most hated Atlantis episode but in fact I would say this is my most disliked episode of any TV show I watched, rewatch, fangirl or fanatically follow. Having said all that, I absolutely recommend watching it as we are all different.
NCIS: Los Angeles: A Line in the Sand (2018)
Dreadful
Quite possibly the worst episode of TV I have ever watched. NCIS LA has always been a more over the top cartoonish series than the original NCIS and while there have occasionally been moments of personal revenge and licensed vigilantism it has never been as ridiculously written as this. Moseley is such a poorly written and acted character, and the *new boss comes in and throws their weight around but eventually is accepted* trope is tired and as overdone as *boss uses agency as their own personal weapon of vengeance .. just yawn. Her behaviour to the team is baffling, getting stroppy about not telling them, then stroppy when G tells them, then firing Deeks, when he points out shes committing multiple crimes, it makes no sense it is just dreadful writing. And frankly no one with that backstory would of got that job in the first place, obvious blackmail, leverage or other ways that could be used to compromise the agency. Just dreadful in every way. Take my advice and skip to next season.
