The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
A little bit below expectations
(In my comment I'm going to point out some of the weak moments of the movie, but I don't want it to be understood in a wrong way. I don't mean it's not worth seeing, on the contrary I do recommend it as a good pastime, I just aim to explain why I'm a little bit disappointed.) For me The Bourne Ultimatum was one of the most awaited releases of this summer but I must say my expectations were not quiet satisfied. Without any doubt this sequel was executed in the best traditions of an action movie - it is extremely dynamic and intense, it doesn't allow you to tear off your sight from the screen even for the slightest moment. Rapid changes of the frames and episodes, constant skipping between numerous streets, houses, offices, roofs and apartments in different parts of the world create the sensation of realism and volume of the surroundings. However after about an hour of watching the movie you realize that the meaning of all this motion is minimized to two broad phrases "We have found Bourne" and "We have lost him". Sadly enough all the positive I have mentioned above converts into some perception of emptiness - everything turns out to be too simple and mediocre. And of course the most disappointing thing about the movie is letting Bourne alive. Not only it looks unrealistic, it also deprives the whole trilogy of the deepness it could have had.
Ocean's Thirteen (2007)
Worth watching
For those who saw the previous parts of the trilogy, Ocean's 13 will turn out to be absolutely predictable, from the very first minute you'll already know the way it ends. You won't find anything innovative or profound in this movie... But who really cares if you get a bunch of everyone's favorite actors obviously having some good time and inevitably transmitting their mood to the audience. Although rich in hard-to-believe moments the story line is very lively and entertaining. There's also a plenty of hilarious episodes so be sure to get some really good laughs. So don't get harsh on the movie just have some popcorn and enjoy.
Ratatouille (2007)
Fabulous!
Almost each new product Pixar released made me think "It can't get any better!" But than comes Ratatouille... What was presented by Brad Bird is truly phenomenal! Ratatouille manages to combine the magic of the old classic Disney pictures with some fresh ingredients and stunning animation! Without any doubt Ratatouille has forged a new path and has established the new standard in animation. This movie will be definitely enjoyed by both kids and adults and even those who normally don't like animation. Never before have animated characters been so adorable, Remy and his fellow rats are just the definition of cuteness. It's hard to believe how outstanding Pixar animation has become - it looks so real that you just forget it's all virtual! What else can I say...I just wonder what's next.
Reno 911!: Miami (2007)
Such a waste!
To be honest this genuinely retarded version of The police Academy isn't even worth a comment. Why than I'm writing this? Well, because there's something I wonder... Were those who voted positively actually serious?! Two options come to my mind...or the entire crew was voting 10 on their "masterpiece" or some really annoyed guys who watched it thought "I can't believe I was stolen 90 minutes of my life like that! OK, I'll go and vote it 10 just not to be the only one". I just really really hope it's a joke! For those who haven't watched it yet - don't waste your time..and money!! Well only in case you enjoy cheap tasteless jokes and a dreadful story line you can give it a try.
Ostrov (2006)
Not convincing
For post-soviet Russia, being left without what they call "the national idea", it's quite logical to be searching for one. I see this movie as a successful attempt to create "the right movie". In this "right" movie you can clearly see the supposed demand of Russian society for spirituality and new moral reference points. As we remember from the classics of soviet cinematography the concept of the "right movie" allows the "idea" to prevail on everything else. This is the main problem of this movie - the internal logic, the protagonist, the course of events - everything is sacrificed to the "idea". This explains the reaction of the audience to the movie - most prefer to forgive the numerous errors and unpersuasive episodes in favor of the overshadowing "idea".But what is this "idea"? Is it humanity? Is it mercy? Is it retaliation for the sins? Is it faith? I guess everyone is free to understand it in his own way and that's why I personally don't like that the comprehension of this idea is supposed to be through the abundance of praying scenes and ascetism.
