Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
It takes less than 5 minutes to see that this is an extraordinarily bad movie.
I've seen better special effects on the old "Thunderbirds" TV show with puppets! It would be easy to blame the acting, but that would undoubtedly be unfair to some of the actors who might eventually go on to make a good mark in the cultural landscape, if they manage to keep this excruciating piece of garbage quiet until they do. The director is unquestionably up there with Ed Wood in terms of competence, but much of the blame should be shared with the writer(s). This whole project strikes me as the drug- addled brainchild of some studio executive who has no sense but enough clout to get his idea greenlighted. Save your money, in fact, don't even waste 90 minutes of your TIME on this formulaic, hackneyed, clichéd, photoshopped nightmare of simulated entertainment.
The Genius Club (2006)
Religious garbage
I wish they had had 1 genius on hand to help write this excruciating mangling of a pretty good premise and talented cast. The questions were only exceeded in stupidity by the answers. I rolled my eyes that these "geniuses" didn't seem to know the basics of their own field of expertise - an economics professor who is unaware that there is a mathematical proof that it is impossible to build a computer that never crashes, and a cancer researcher ignorant of the theory of evolution, to name two. I think the final answer was pretty good, which is why I blame the writing; the whole movie is an intellectual exercise. Didn't they think intellectuals would be watching? I'm particularly offended that the writers assume it's self-evident that religion is the solution, rather than the cause, of most of the world's problems.
