Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021)
Like a modern female version of Dumb and Dumber!
One of the best movies I've watched recently!!!
This is like the modern female version of Dumb and Dumber!! LOVE IT!!!! Just perfect! 10/10
I laughed out loud many times and I love the vacation vibes! An instant favorite!
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Great premise but an hour too long.
The premise of rewriting history with the good guys winning over the bad ones seemed entertaining to me. I was expecting an action movie with a lot of violence in Tarantino's style who usually makes it fun - even for someone like me who doesn't love that genre.
Well, not this time!
There was too much boring, unnecessary - heavily subtitled - talking. The movie could have easily been an hour shorter.
The first scene, the scene at the restaurant, and the scene at the bar should have all been much shorter, and a bunch of characters were also very insignificant to the story.
I sometimes do watch films that are 100% subtitled and I enjoy them, but all the subtitles here were just annoying because it was a bunch of conversations that were not moving the story forward at all.
I enjoyed the last hour of the movie because that was Tarantino's style. And you don't need to be a fan of Brad Pitt to agree that his scenes were the most entertaining ones.
However, I was disappointed that both of the main female characters were killed at the end.
The Wine of Summer (2013)
Good movie about finding yourself. Needs a higher rating!
I found this on Amazon Prime and I didn't expect much because of the rating, but I actually really loved it!
With its photography and soundtrack, it has all the vibes of a good contemporary Italian film - yes, the story is in Spain but I'm pretty sure the director is Italian.
I just have to say that it was only frustrating that no one corrected them about "the mermaid" since they kept saying "la serena" instead of "la sirena"... but other than that, this is a good movie about finding yourself, with a little bit of melancholic feelings, but also hope.
The Good Guy (2009)
Feel-good romcom. Enjoyable but could have been so much better with a few adjustments.
I love Bryan Greenberg!
His characters are always a breath of fresh air for me.
This could have been a much better romcom if they cut a bunch of those boring scenes at Wall Street and if they gave more scenes to Bryan Greenberg (Daniel) also at the beginning of the movie... Scott Porter's character (Tommy) was so not likable that it kinda ruined part of the movie for me.
Some characters were very stereotypical and I feel like some people could get offended by some of those racist jokes nowadays...
And what happened to the colors in the posters?! Those posters make it seem like such a low quality / independent kind of movie! It's the little things in life... Anyone with some photoshop skills could make a better job than that, come on!
Anyway Bryan (Daniel) and Alexis Bledel (Beth) saved the movie for me. Enjoyable romcom overall!
I gave it a 7 because I found it a feel-good movie that I would be down to watch again! I might be biased because I love romcoms and I'm a fan of Bryan and Alexis though.
Straight Up (2019)
Unusual dramedy, relaxing but also interesting!
I loved this movie from the very beginning.
I relate to Todd's OCD and germophobia and I relate to Rory's career situations. I think this movie is a must watch for aspiring actors in Los Angeles.
There was so much chemistry between James and Katie (Todd and Rory) that it really felt like they were so perfect for each other.
I also loved the cinematography with those symmetrical shots that recalled Todd's OCD.
It's an unusual dramedy that personally gave me good vibes because it was very relaxing but entertaining and interesting at the same time.
I don't really rewatch movies but I would definitely watch this again.
I'm just not too sure I got the ending, but maybe giving an ambiguous sort of open ending was exactly the point (?).
9/10
P.s. I can really see how in the past James Sweeney worked on such an unusual movie like "Anomalisa" and Katie Findlay was the girlfriend in the tv show "Man Seeking Woman". They both fit this movie's vibes perfectly.
Mr. Right (2015)
I wish I could unsee it.
Worst movie I've watched in a while. I usually like the movies Anna Kendrick is in, but this one was awful.
Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick had no chemistry at all.
And this is supposed to be a romcom?! Sam Rockwell's character's personality is so weird it made me uncomfortable throughout the whole movie, and he's not even super attractive.
Anna Kendrick's character felt like an idiotic child - which made the age gap of the couple even creepier - who has as many mental problems as Sam Rockwell's character.
I don't even know why I watched the whole thing.
I would say that maybe with different actors this movie would have been better... but this concept was already used in the movie Knight and Day and indeed that was an entertaining action romcom that worked very well!
Adam Devine: Best Time of Our Lives (2019)
Couldn't stop laughing! Humble and talented.
Adam is really one of my favorite comedians. He brings a smile to my face with his positive energy. He's youthful, funny, and also sweet.
He's so adorable! How could anyone hate him?
He never disrespects women with his jokes, and he's obviously a very humble person. At the same time, he's very talented so I couldn't stop laughing for the entire show. I thought my neighbors were gonna come knock at my door to complain about the loud laughters!
I truly wish this guy the best and I hope to see another comedy special of his soon!
