The Sitter (2011)
2/10
Another pointless waste of case.
26 June 2012
Against my better judgement, I decided to sit through this disastrous, disgrace to the good name of cinema. I fail to see why, in this modern day, we are subjected to this kind of trashy, disgraceful garbage. There is no need for this film to exist, its humour, weak and un thoughtful. Its characters, 1 dimensional and entirely forgettable. Do not think me as harsh as I too enjoy the pleasures of mindless entertainment from time to time, alas this is far from entertainment, it seems as cinema evolves there are still many a mistake to be made, this is a prime example.

Put your hard earned money to better use yet if you find that you must see this, wait, it will surly fall in price soon.

A pleasant surprise!
13 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't expecting much from this film but I was proved wrong. The story is fantastic showing how the apes begin to rise! There are lots of respects shown to the original film as well. The effect are fantastic and Andy serkis plays Cesar perfectly which wasn't surprising given his past performances. The thing I really like about the film is they didn't over use anything. For example when Cesar speaks he doesn't really say much through the film. Also the action isn't over the top which suits the film. James Franco was fantastic as was John lithgow. All in all there is fantastic acting accompanied with great effects and a great story line. A worthy instalment to the Planet Of The Apes films.

Destined for the bargain bins!
22 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I'll admit my hopes weren't exactly high when I put this film on and yet I still ended up disappointed at how terrible it is!

Pretty average 'special' effects through out the film. Some parts were completely pointless Eg a scene where they cut up a near dead invader to find out its weak spot which is seemingly difficult to get to and they never use the info they learn.

The acting is pretty standard for this type of mindless action flick! Most scenes are based on marines running around mindlessly shooting in all directions. You'll see more organisation in a Call Of Duty game!

Not a great film and certainly not worth the money so wait a couple of months and you'll be able to pick it up for a couple of quid.

Taxi Driver (1976)
10/10
De niro at his best!
22 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Being a fan of all Martins films I have to say that Taxi Driver is certainly one of his finest.

The film plays slowly and unfolds at a slow and steady pace and does not hurry. We follow Travis who is a loner and does not care too much for the people he meets on a daily bases and has a low opinion of the city on the whole. Travis works as a Taxi Driver and gradually gets fed up of what he sees every day so he eventually decides if no one else will help he will. He meets a young girl working the streets and decides to help her.

A nice steady film which heads to a fantastic conclusion and proves why Martin is ONE of the most important directors in cinematic history. Mr Scorsese you never disappoint!

Hardly Bourne meets Inception
22 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
If your looking for Bourne meets Inception then you wont find it here.

The story is of a man trying to change his destiny and win the girl he is not supposed to be with.

Its has quite a slow place but it is a very good and original film. There is solid acting as usual from the fantastic Damon and Emily does a good job as his love interest. Though the film is original and a very good watch it isn't a classic which is a shame because all the parts are there if there was a bit more action and a bit more focus on the hidden world it would have been better. Worth a watch but certainly can't be compared to Bourne or Inception.

A grand farewell!
21 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this at a midnight viewing in a packed cinema. Perfect way to say goodbye to a great series of films.

The film was fantastic and a great ending but people who have read the books will notice several points missing. Sadly some of the points that were included were cut shorter and were not done as much justice as they deserved.

Although there are some negative points to the finale for the most part fans of the book and films will be more than satisfied. A touching and complete film with lots of emotion and more action in this sitting then all its predecessors combined! It deserves multiple watches.

Goodbye harry potter! You will be missed!

Wait? what part is this
21 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The ending to the transformers trilogy is a pretty good film BUT its very similar to its predecessors.

The same basic story where Whitwickey must prove himself to help the auto bots struggle. The auto bots become ridiculously out numbered and out gunned but still manage to prevail over the evil decepticons. Its a tried and tested story which seems to be winning over fans.

Megan Fox's absence is felt which i was surprised about. Her replacement was flat dull and boring and brought nothing to the film.

Malkovich was a welcome breath of fresh air! The acting was pretty good through out and though repeated the story keeps your interest till the end.

The usual big metal robots smacking each other about and the good guys risking everything to save earth makes for a fairly good watch and a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Fun for hardcore fans and regular fans alike

Green Lantern (2011)
5/10
Another basic super hero flick
27 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I did enjoy Green Lantern BUT it does has some very poor points to it.

The good stuff: Ryan Reynolds plays the cocky and arrogant Hal Jordan well much to the fact that in my opinion it suits him as a person. The world of the Lanterns if well done and looks nice. The special effects are pretty good and will keep you entertained and the story is okay if very predictable.

Tha bad stuff: The story is predictable and most of it has been done before. One thing that annoyed me is that after a ten man assault on the fear failed the lanterns seemed to give up and turn to the power of fear instead of using every lantern to fight the fear. The cocky arrogant hero has been done before.

All in all its a good film but don't go in with your hopes too high. Worth a watch but the summer has a lot more to offer!

First class film!
27 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this film. Its set in a time when Prof X and Magneto were actually friends! It gives you the back story of the duo and shows how the X-men came to be!

The good stuff: James and Michael do a fantastic job portraying the young Prof X and Magneto. The action sequences are fantastic. The special effects are fantastic. The story is fantastic. It explains how some of the X-men from the other films came to be and answers other questions like why is Prof X in a wheelchair. A great performance from Kevin Bacon and the entire cast! Also a nice surprise appearance...

The bad stuff: Not much to be fair! Some of the mutants were a bit lame. Also it ended! For fans and new comers alike you should love it!

Scott Pilgrim
23 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I had such high hopes for this film. Being directed by Edgar and starring Michael Cera it had to be good! And it was! This film is about Scott Pilgrim a boy who must defeat 7 evil ex boyfriends in order to freely date the mysterious Ramona.

The film has hilarious parts from beginning to end and Michael plays Scott incredibly well. Every side character is full of wit and charm. It also boasts an incredible soundtrack! It stays true to its comic book origins in the way its shot and plays out. Very funny and very original! I don't thing anybody should attempt to copy! You should definitely watch! 10/10!

Rango

I wasn't sure about this film when I first heard of it but I gave it a chance any way. I'm glad I did. The animation itself is pretty good but not as good as the likes of Pixar and the film in my opinion runs a bit too long but they are the only flaws. The characters in the film are fantastic ranging from the strange side characters to the main they provide plenty of laughs through out and also they provide a level of charm which has you feeling for them. Its too early to tell how this film will stack up against the other animated films which are on the way but I personally think its one you shouldn't miss out on it will keep you entertained throughout what ever age you are!

Thor (2011)

Thor
19 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I was surprised by how good Thor actually is! As this is (to my knowledge) the 1st time Thor has made an appearance on the big screen I knew little about him. He starts the film as an arrogant narrow minded meat head basically with more muscle then sense. He thinks he is unstoppable and can do what ever he wants without consequence. But as the film progresses he matures and becomes the man he needs to be in order to take his fathers place. So we have a coming of age film in a way as well as a super hero movie where he must defend against the big bad guy. So in many ways this is marvels most mature film to date. Add in some stunning scenery and fantastic acting and you have a great film! One thing letting it down is the fact that the bad guys are not really that threatening. All in all a must see!

127 Hours

Warning: Spoilers
I was wary of this film to start off with seeing as its about a man who gets trapped in the middle of a canyon with nobody around for miles I was worried it would get a bit boring but I was wrong. The film keeps you hooked all the way through as we follow him as he has his accident and as he spends days trapped and begins to hallucinate. Your kept guessing as to how or even if he is going to get out of there alive as he is running dangerously low on food and water and he has not told anybody where he was going so there is no rescue coming. He is faced with 2 choices in the end he can die there or choose to live with a hard to watch scene of him amputating his own arm. Very gripping and very original. Well worth a watch!

Insidious (I) (2010)

Insidious
18 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I found out that this was made by James Wan the director of SAW. I loved SAW and thought I would check this out. I have to say it was a waste of time. The movie isn't scary at all! Nor is it original. Its the run of the mill story of the wife being home alone quite a lot and she starts seeing things and of course the husband does not believe her at first until he sees things too so they get some mental woman in to help get rid of the spirits. Its the same rubbish we've seen a million times in the past and I dare say we will see again in the not too distant future. If your bored then by all means check this rubbish out but i can promise you there are far better movies out there! I'd suggest you avoid!

So very poor
17 June 2011
Poor movie. I love nick cage but even he couldn't save this disaster. Piper was your run of the mill tough chick who ended up getting in the way just as much as she helped. Jonah King was a terrible bad guy with no presence or charisma and was surrounded by useless henchmen. And pursuing Milton we have The accountant who is there to return Milton to hell where he belongs but doesn't really bring any life to the film. Also there was seemingly a need to put as many lame one liners in the film as possible which was more embarrassing then anything else! It did on a plus side have some slightly entertaining action scenes and some very nice looking cars! All in all its a very poor film which leads to a very disappointing ending. Worth a watch once if you are a fan of Cage or some of the other actors if not then I'd suggest you stay away!
