Extremely annoying and entitled young characters
17 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The series itself is not so bad, story-wise. What I don't like is the way the younger characters were written. It seems as if the only way they can act towards adults is by being very, very conceited, full of themselves and, in general, annoying as hell. In one episode, the way the young woman treats her mother is SO horrible, as if she were a 13-year old acting out when she's actually mid-20s or so. I don't understand this constant way of writing young characters these days. Apparently the only way most writers seem to find conflict is by getting this adults-don't-know-anything-and-we-must-attack-them-always attitude in younger characters. It seems as if likeable younger characters nowadays are very few and far between. Good stories that could make for great series are being destroyed constantly in this way.

If I could give it an 11, I would.
8 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie came out four years ago. I like rewatching movies but I tend to do it with some space of years usually between viewings. This movie, I've seen it maybe 7 times or so since it came out in 2019. I'm a musician and songwriter and there's something about it that grabs me. The whole world except one person forgetting that the biggest band and songwriters ever existed. The premise was great and the movie was done exceptionally well. I do wish that they had included in the final version the scene where he magically comes up with the song "Something" in the talk show because it's a very strong scene that ended up only in the extras. I've always liked The Beatles but this movie actually started a whole new relationship for me with their music. Excellent and can't recommend it enough. 11/10.

Absolute perfection
2 January 2023
Not only has a new and HUGE love for The Beatles started recently in me, but this most wonderful documentary has helped to light that fire, also. It's a bucket full of great stories about how many, many of the songs came to be from writing to recording. Since I talk about how songs from many of my favorite artists came to be in my YouTube channel and TikTok account, this documentary had me writing notes almost constantly. Every half hour episode ended up lasting about an hour for me because I was writing so much. Rick Rubin, as wonderful a producer as he is, is also really, REALLY good at getting those stories andyou can also see his absolute love for the band, the songs, and Paul McCartney. Absolutely WONDERFUL.

Has one of the funniest scenes in the entire series!
18 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has by FAR one of the funniest scenes in the entire run of the series. And the crazy thing is that you can't even SEE ANYBODY. I remember that the first time I saw it was, I believe, in 2020 and I just laughed so hard that I almost choked! It's the scene where Michael and Holly are going to go out and then they go back in the building. They go into a closet and then she asks him "do you think they can hear us?" and he answers "not if we turn these dials ALL THE WAY DOWN" while, OBVIOUSLY, in the most Michael Scott style, turning the dials gradually up until the volume is at maximum. I'm watching it again now and rewinding again and again. My God, just PERFECT comedy. Love the series.

An absolutely excellent episode. Usual Endeavour but with an added depth that leaves American crime series begging for crumbs. Endeavour is one of the best police dramas ever made.

Absolutely stunning episode
1 July 2022
The level of Acton in this episode goes hand-in-hand with the mastery of the script frame. Many TV shows and movies I've seen that have to do with this topic, but it took the Orville for me to finally be able to say that this piece of television hit the nail on the head. Excellent episode and a 10 out of 10.

An interesting episode
24 June 2022
This episode was interesting, reminding me, especially, some old TNG episodes. I do find that it was made much too early in the history of the series, though. Somebody said that we still don't know the characters enough for us to be able to see the differences in personalities between their own and the ones created here. One thing I do find interesting, he's in the very last conversation that the doctor has with Una. He says a certain sentence that made me think a lot of the very best Star Trek episode of all time (for me): The Inner Light. Of course, nothing can ever compare to that episode since it is a perfect piece of television history. But I did find it nice that it has a reference in this particular episode. Give it a chance, watch it, and remember that hopefully this series will have a long enough history for it to make this particular episode another nuanced steppingstone in the history of Star Trek.

Star Trek is BACK, baby!!!
6 May 2022
I haven't read any reviews on it, but just finished watching the first episode. You know that feeling you got on so many TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise episodes when they're encountering a new planet, a new species, and the story possibilities are all around you? THAT'S the first episode of SNW. Excellent acting, special effects, and story! I KNEW an episodic Star Trek series was the way to go. If you're a true fan of Star Trek, WATCH THIS EPISODE.

A truly enjoyable series
15 April 2022
I don't have anything bad to say about this series. The acting was top-notch by most of the actors pretty much all of the time. It holds you in suspense but has enough lighthearted moments so you can have a breather every once in a while. The story actually reminds me of a veeeeeery long episode of the old cartoon series "Jonny Quest". I'm looking forward to the second season, which is not up on Disney+ yet.

Parallels (2022)

Imagine "Dark" but without needing a genealogy chart!
24 March 2022
This series was SUCH an EXCELLENT surprise! This morning I went into Disney+ and saw something called "Parallels". I started watching it dubbed into English but after, I believe, two sentences, I switched to French with subtitles. I was HOOKED.

A quick, spoiler-free rundown would be that it has excellent actors with excellent acting, great, absolutely great writing, dialogue, special effects, and production, very much above average cinematography, good, solid directing, and a completely riveting storyline.

I had the weirdest thought once I was about halfway through this perfect miniseries: how DARE Disney make such an excellent live-action series?! But then I realized that it's not a dumbed-down series made in the U. S. for kids. Sorry, but that's what I thought. I have no idea what they put in the water around Western Europe, but this series goes GREAT alongside Netflix's "Dark", although it is way shorter and WAY easier to understand, without needing a huge family tree in order to keep everything kind of in focus, as many of us did when watching "Dark" (one of the best series of the last decade).

I truly hope that there's a second series, although at the same time I believe this stands perfectly well on its own and why mess with perfection, right?

Watch it and treat yourself to, alongside "The Mandalorian", one of THE best surprises to come out of Disney+.

10/10.

Excellent movie. Feeling down? Watch it.
19 March 2022
My review will be to just tell you to watch it. It's a great movie all around, WAY more than one might think. Good acting, good production value. And, by the way and with no spoilers, there's a GREAT spin at the end of the night scene. Very good movie. I'm glad I watched it!

Star Trek: Picard: The Star Gazer (2022)

THIS is Star Trek!
6 March 2022
I liked the first season of Picard. I kind of like Discovery but didn't really love the first or third seasons (although season 2 was great), and I've only watched season four's first episode. But the old series I've watched each of them at least twice and some about three, four or five times completely. Well, this episode makes you want to go back and rewatch Star Trek again because it holds the same kind of magic. If this episode is a good preview of what's to come this season, then Star Trek Picard's Season 2 is going to be STELLAR.

Absolutely wonderful film!
1 February 2022
I won't make this too long. I just want to say that the movie is exceptional. Gorgeous animations and excellently catchy songs, with "Dos Oruguitas" being a complete standout, so much so that I actually thought it was a much, much older song.

Do yourselves a favor and watch "Encanto".

Marvel are BACK.
15 November 2021
For me to not give a Marvel movie a 10/10 is not heard of (by me). Which is what happened with Black Widow, which I have an 8/10 (low for a Marvel Movie, for me). Well, I'm glad to say that with "Shang-Chi - The Legend of the Ten Rings" Marvel are back in top form. Not only is the movie excellent - opening up a great story with wonderful, engaging characters, and great new locations - but something I don't always think when I think "Marvel movies" is that there are many scenes in which I just thought to myself that they made a beautiful movie, too. It's really too bad that this movie didn't get the chance other Marvel movies got with a non-pandemic times movie theater release. It would've surely broken the 1-billion dollar mark. Very recommended.

If I had to guess, THIS is the episode that made Mayim Bialik's Amy become a MUST HAVE for The Big Bang Theory. She is SO incredibly funny here with her deadpan delivery of her lines. It's perfect LOL.

EXCELLENT first episode
11 August 2021
Believe or don't believe what the naysayers are saying, but I thought this was great, and I'm not a fan of animated series like I used to be as a kid. If the internet and social media had existed for the past century, then probably MOST of the series, cartoon, movies, comic books, videogames, and books that we've loved for the past 80 years wouldn't have existed because EVERYBODY would be complaining about one thing or another and nothing new would be created in the end.

Forget all the negative comments, watch it and have a good time for half an hour.

Slasher (2016–2023)

After the first season, a solid 5/10
1 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Why such a low score but still using the adjective "solid"? Well, the story itself is good. It's interesting and, weirdly, is the only thing that keeps you watching because the acting and a lot of the dialogue is some of the WORST I've ever seen. In anything, ever.

At first I read some reviews talking badly about the dialogue and acting and I thought "oh, TYPICAL reviewers who score everything really low".

NO. They were very much right. The main actress and the actor who plays the Executioner just don't cut it, sorry. The lady who's a big wig from NY and has a tv show? Bad. There's a scene at the beginning of an episode with a female couple walking through a field and it has SUCH BAD dialogue that you've gotta laugh. Then another scene at the art gallery with a girl saying that they'll take anything and "money is no object. I make six figures drinking blood online". Between the lines of dialogue and the HORRIBLY BAD acting, it's a chore to be able to get through. But that's just it. By then the STORY is driving you and you try to block out the bad (which is a lot). But I now finally understand when people complain about bad dialogue and use descriptions such as saying that something sounds as if it were written by a not-very-well-read 5th grader.

Then there's the really bad continuity mistake of the gluttony drawing in the summer camp book. You'll definitely know it when you see it.

Now I'm off to watch season two, which a lot of people say is way better. We'll see.

EXCELLENT escapist science fiction
4 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There will be some spoilers ahead.

People will review and bash this movie. They're already doing it. They're saying it's like another version of "Starship Troopers" - or a mixture between that movie and "Edge of Tomorrow" (excellent, too!) and honestly, though they have similarities, this movie has many things going for it.

First of all, action packed with good special effects, which for this kind of science fiction movie is important. Yes, there are things that I didn't agree with, like the fact that they're apparently using almost the same kind of airplanes and helicopters and ships that are already NOW about 20-30 years old. That would be the equivalent of us still using only technology from the 60s and 70s, which is not the case, by and large (there are obvious exceptions). There are also stupid parts like in the beginning search and rescue mission when they're screaming out orders inside the building, which would never happen. Or the fact that older Muri stupidly jumps in with the queen and nothing at all happens go her. The acting was a bit wooden in only a couple of parts, mostly when Pratt first meets older Muri.

But if you forget those things, the movie is thoroughly enjoyable. Great alien chase scenes, explosions all over the place, and then when you thought that all of it was done, here comes volcano-kid to save the day. You got ANOTHER mission, this one WAY too short. And that final fight with the female was gruesome but great.

Watch the movie. If you like movies that are pure escapism, you'll enjoy "The Tomorrow War".

Great, great episode!!
23 June 2021
This episode is one of the things that science fiction is supposed to be about. It's like Star Trek TOS: you talk about our world, our issues, through science fiction. I'm not American; I'm not from the United States. And that means that I haven't been jaded like - apparently, reading so many RIDICULOUSLY low reviews - sooooo many others have in thinking that EVERY SINGLE SHOW IS PREACHING TO YOU. Not every single thing created in this planet has been made so that egocentric, unimaginative people think that it's there just to preach to them. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some good, old-fashioned, yet new, science fiction. So far, most of the episodes have been somewhere in the vicinity of 6-7 to 9-10. This one is an absolute 10.

I'm watching this in April, 2021, and not only are things still the same, they've gotten WORSE.

This series has its ups and downs, like all series, but they did touch upon some subjects that bring the American experience into interesting perspective.

How to make a TV series
12 December 2020
THIS is how. I honestly can't believe that The Mandalorian keeps getting better and better. I'm not a hater of the new films (Rogue One was EXCELLENT), but I didn't like the way they just did away with all the Extended Star Wars Universe (I'd read about 60 novels). But The Mandalorian makes up for all that. Excellent from start to finish and just gets better as the story advances.

So worth watching!
15 November 2020
I usually don't like your typical series in which a teenager saves the day when they usually don't know their head from their a**. But THIS series was OUTSTANDING! A little far-fetched at times, yes, but it has the grit and great writing that you need for a series of this type to not fall into cookie-cutter sameness as all the others. This is a series you want to watch and binge like me: all in one day.

It took a second viewing in 2020...
9 November 2020
To give this WONDERFUL sitcom a 10 out of 10. I'd watched it on and off many times throughout the years, but it wasn't until they put it in Amazon Prime Video early this year that I watched it in its entirety. For whatever reason, in my first viewing (yes, I watched all 12 seasons TWICE this year), I felt that the series went completely downhill from seasons six and seven and then picked up again the last season, culminating in an EXTREMELY good final speech by Sheldon at the end. But this second time around, I was waiting, expecting it to get bad in season six... and then in seven, in eight, then nine, ten, eleven. And NOTHING. I loved it from beginning to end, and I'm SO GLAD I watched the entire thing again at the end of this strange 2020 that we've all been living through. An outstanding series from beginning to end, well worth your time... even twice in the same year!

Best ghost/love story every
18 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's rare that something that can scare the crap out of you for so long makes you cry at the end, but the story, in the last episode, became that type of love story that romantic movies rarely get right. This was SO well done. And I have to say that as a huge fan of Sheryl Crow for over 25 years, "I Shall Believe" has never had such impact as in the final scenes of this series. I recommend it wholeheartedly. Absolutely perfect.
