This movie was entertaining, upbeat and absolutely hilarious in parts. There was no bad language/sex or violence ... what a pleasant change! Midler and Crystal were professional and believable as was the rest of the cast. As the temperature is 41 degrees Celsius here today, the theatre was packed with an audience who had not been particular about their movie selection, yet all were absorbed and most laughed enthusiastically at the punchlines (even those that have been around a few times before.) I am so glad that I didn't take on board the reviews of those professional 'critics' who mostly panned it. I thoroughly recommend it for adults and older kids. It was an uplifting experience.

I watched this movie in 3D with my (very mature for his age) five year old grandson. He loved it and wanted to talk about the plot for most of the afternoon to anyone who would listen. However, other young children in the theatre were rather nervous and scared in certain parts of the film and a few very small (2 - 4 year old) children had to be escorted out of the cinema by their parents.
Personally, after the first five minutes, which were a bit slow, I became absorbed in the story and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. There was lots of action and the plot was attention grabbing and unique, with no soppy love story and little slang included.

Subtle brilliance

I saw this film last night on TV and was so moved by it, I had to write a review.
The story of an old man's last weeks on earth was touching and subtly revealing. Little by little the main character's personalities were revealed and the audience came to discover the secrets in their earlier lives.
The performances of O'Toole and Lesley Phillips were stunning, as was that of the young actress, who until this movie was an unknown entity. In addition the script and superb direction made this movie a perfect one for me and certainly a film to remember.
