Painful to watch.
2 January 2024
They hyped this movie so much, you expected you'll see a good movie. Or at least an entertaining one. I wasn't entertained. Incredulity was the state of my mind while watching this. Too many inconsistencies. One user said it's contrived. I agree.

Actors needed some direction - some of them tended to over act. Though Dolly & Kathryn are OK. Was surprised Kathryn can act - from the love team Kathniel, I thought she'll give a lukewarm or a wimpy performance.

I will not pay 400 pesos to watch this in a moviehouse. I would like to support our movie industry but movies like this make me think twice.

And "Dito Ba?" at the end...???

The Golden Girls: Isn't It Romantic? (1986)
Season 2, Episode 5

Ahead of its time

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best episodes of the "The Golden Girls" - now that I have the time to watch the show and now that I am older. Also, one of my favorites. There are lines in this episode that are laugh out loud funny if you're watching as a middle-aged person. Tackling this subject in 1986 in a hit show is truly ahead of its time. And handling it with such care & respect - hats off to the WRITERS & producers. And to the 4 ladies - this is ensemble acting at its best. I laughed out loud at Blanche's indignation when she found out Jean preferred Rose over her. LOL. Also, Rose's "I could have looked it up!"😁 No wonder, Betty won the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy show the 1st year this was on. She's got good timing. Truly one of the greats.

I just saw these series now and I don't know why it has a low IMDB rating. Eco's novel is so hard to read because of it's many treatises about faith, etc. And here comes a series that tried to condense it to what is the main subject of the novel - the murders in an abbey. Though I must admit that the story meandered on, it kept me interested to see to its end. Since I have read the novel and has seen the movie with Sean Connery, there is no surprise there. The producers have painstakingly recreated a 14th century abbey and have dressed the actors appropriately, it's interesting to watch. Also, that it has an international cast. Was surprised that Everett can do drama - since I have only seen him in "My Best Friend's Wedding". I guess, it would be up to the viewer if he/she wants to invest their time to watch this 8-part series. Some parts of it can be tedious, but it's not all that bad.

I already forget when and how I saw this movie. (I think maybe on Netflix) I chose to watch this when I saw Jane Fonda was in it. Also Felicity Huffman. And I was glad I did. From the start to the end, I wanted to keep on watching. Jane was superb, as always. And the casting was good. They all resembled each other - from Fonda to Lohan. The dynamics of their relationship - from grandmother to granddaughter is interesting to watch though familiar - the daughter's (Lohan) relationship with her mother (Huffman) is thorny. So is Felicity's relationship with her mother (Fonda). Not to mention the issue of sexual abuse. (I think this is why Jane did this movie. This subject is close to her heart - her mother was a victim. She wrote this in one of her books.) So when the movie ends, it's satisfying to see that they may have come to an understanding of their mothers as well as themselves. I don't know why the critics savaged this movie. It's a good one. Though I must say that Lohan didn't have to do much acting :) She just had to be herself. And maybe that is why she was cast here.

Thought-provoking

It got me watching till the end, even if I was only watching one actor & hearing the voice of another. Fine acting. With billionaires travelling into space & gene-editing, the premise isn't far-fetched. Not anymore. Like the movie "The Island", it begs the question - who are we really? And do we have a soul?

FUNNY

I saw this in a cinema when it first came out. Re-watched it again. Still funny! Not belly-laugh funny but FUNNY. Tom Cruise was a surprise. And for me, the funniest character was Robert Downey's.

Kate as always, delivers

She made me believe she is a detective in this small town. Besides the engaging whodunit story arc of the series, there is the drama of her family. I especially loved her scenes with the therapist - what an actor! She truly deserves the Emmy.

Warning: Spoilers
Someone uploaded this on YouTube and i watched it recently. I stayed on it because i was curious to see Swoozie & Meredith. Decently acted but I don't believe you can go back to the way it was - your husband had an affair with your best friend's daughter, for crying out loud! It ended with the two friends continuing with their planned trip to Europe.

it's not funny

The only reason I watched this is because of Betty White. (am doing a sort of tribute for her on my YouTube channel). This is painful to watch. They just let Betty sit throughout the run of this episode. And everybody got to change their costumes - but not her. For crying out loud! Not surprising they just lasted 13 episodes.

Seriously? they made this movie?
16 March 2022
Why did Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver AND Betty White agree to do this movie? There are too many subplots - I can't keep up. I don't know how these actors can keep a straight face with that kind of script. What the...?!? And what was that last scene with Betty & Cloris? "Oh, we got Betty - let's make her do something". Duh. Jamie Lee, Sigourney and Betty are wasted on this movie. Betty has had more better roles on TV than this crap.

I was binge-watching anything that Betty White was in. (After she has passed, no less). I was wondering when she was going to make an appearance. And there she was. She's always game - no matter how small the role is. What a pro. <3 (She had a much longer appearance in Episode 1 of Season 2).

a disappointment
5 March 2022
For something that was 10 years in the making, I'd expected more. More videos of Betty's early days in television (Life with Elizabeth, Date with the Angels, her emceeing the Macy's parade, etc. - you could easily find these old videos on YouTube). I expected more interviews with co-stars. Granted many of her contemporaries are gone, they could have done a little more effort. And because the narrative revolves around what her co-stars tell us about Betty (most of which we already know), it lacked the objective voice of why she had the career that she had - why she remained relevant & beloved till her last decade. With the exception of her roles in the Mary Tyler Moore Show & The Golden Girls, most of her roles on television aren't that noteworthy. Let's face it - if you're a television actor, you'll take what you can get. (Personally, I love her on Life with Elizabeth. She was a natural). This is not to say she isn't a great actor - she is. A pity that she didn't get or choose to do more serious roles. She was great in The Golden Girls' more serious scenes. (Rose the Prude, Season 1 Episode 3 comes to mind). I love Betty White, so do the producers of this documentary - this is a love letter to her. But as a documentary, this was a disappointment.

Betty CAN do drama!
27 February 2022
My favorite episode where Rose was the center of the story. The scene in the cabin was good. Betty showed Rose's vulnerability - and that got me. Especially when she said at the end of the scene - "Hold me." So tender. (sigh) I wish Betty had played more scenes like this in her career. I just love it when I see Betty's face showing vulnerability. Those eyes... they tell a lot.

Better writing and a better supporting cast may have made this better
26 February 2022
Painstakingly watched this on YouTube. (video quality isn't good - after Betty's passing I found myself watching some of her work). I kinda like Betty's character here. John Hillerman's not bad either. However, writing leaves much to be desired inspite it being created by the same people from the MTMS. But the performances of Betty, John & Georgia are good. Pity they are wasted on a poor script.

Just saw this on Netflix, March 2021. this is good. the acting is so simple, it's heartbreaking. Blythe Danner's version of how a person with dementia is, is realistic. love her in this.

Underrated comedy
19 June 2020
I was in my teens when this film came out and I just came around to watching this now, during quarantine. I was intrigued of course because of Julie's topless scene. (which was brief). This is funny. And Robert Preston had the funniest lines! Not to mention an all-star cast. wow! Certainly, underrated.
