Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen
This reboot franchise was rocky from the start and only got worse. Honestly this movie just feels like a cobbled together means to an end. Character arcs go absolutely nowhere and the logic behind so many of the major events is
just baffling. Many established rules of the franchise are broken/changed and it is just plain stupid at some moments.
Pretty much every cool scene from the trailer has no actual bearing on the movie and was just added to make the movie look more interesting than it actually is.
Anyone giving this anything above a 4-5 is blinded by their love towards the franchise. This is an insult to the original films and should be avoided.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Charming at times but a husk of the original
Imagine the original HIMYM with most of the good things just completely stripped away from it. Characters are either cliche or completely forgettable. Humor is dry and downright cringey at times, no thanks to the plethora of "relatable" humor. I thought the general banter between the cast as well as the romance were actually pretty well done in terms of writing, but pretty much everything else just falls short.
Mutafukaz (2017)
An entertaining mess
This is a movie that I feel focused a little too hard on its presentation and forgot to really make a cohesive story.
The visuals and overall look of the movie are great and really make it a fun movie to watch. The voice acting is solid and the animation style is enjoyable. Where this movie starts to fall apart however is its plot. The story really seems to just trail off about half way through the movie and never really resumes. Things kinda just start happening without much explanation. Certain characters are given very little development and you often wonder why they are even in the movie. The dialogue is alright for the most part, but borders on cringe worthy when its at its worst.
If you're looking for a cool movie that you don't have to think very hard about then you'll probably get some enjoyment out of this. However I doubt anyone would feel compelled to watch it more than once.
Pop Quiz Hotshot (2015)
Nothing to like about it.
This "show" is an absolute dumpster fire. To start, the set looks horrible. This project had a budget of $90k (all of which was crowdsourced by their fans) and it looks so cheap. Everything from the special effects to the podiums Doug and the contestants stand at look like something a group of 15 year olds would throw together. The questions are terrible. The contestants barely get any right because they're too specific and obscure for your average person to know. They're also worded horribly by Doug half the time. Doug's quips and jokes in response to the contestants wrong answers are pretty much the same every time. Literally using the same joke multiple times in an episode. It also doesn't help that they aren't funny. The contestants themselves just seem lukewarm to the entire situation and never seem excited or like they're having fun. The formula of the show is a complete mess and the winner gets a pitiful prize of $100-200. The challenges are so lazily put together and the "these contestants are being forced to participate in this crazy show" premise just doesn't work and gives the whole thing a very weird vibe. This show honestly just feels like a scam. There's no way this cost $90,000 to make. Its cheap looking, its not funny, and it doesn't make sense. I'd say its worth watching maybe one episode if you want to see this disaster for yourself. Otherwise, don't bother.
The Purge: Election Year (2016)
I guess subtlety isn't important
This is possibly one of the most ham fisted and forced attempts to make a political movie I have ever seen. The villain is a one dimensional and cliche excuse for an antagonist. He is a stereotypical old, white, rich, and greedy politician who cares about nobody but himself and his other old, white, rich friends. The movie even makes sure you know hes evil by having him hire Nazi mercenaries to kill the protagonist. Why are they Nazis? Because hes evil and conservative that's why. The protagonist is not much better. She is a run of the mill "strong independent woman who is going to save the day". She has no character arc and is barely developed throughout the whole movie. The action and presentation of the movie is cartoonish and stupid. Why did those girls cover their car in Christmas lights? Where did they get golden bedazzled AK-47s? Who cares. It looks cool right? All of the purge participants look more like tricker-treaters out on Halloween than scary murderers. The movie then demonizes religion by having a scene where a priest is going to execute a man in front of a crowd and a church. Who's in the crowd? You guessed it: rich white people. I have no issue with subtle political commentary in movies, but his has to be one of the worst attempts I have ever seen. All of this aside, this is a standard suspenseful action movie that brings nothing new to the table at all. All of the characters are forgettable and uninteresting. The cinematography is cookie cutter and all of the action scenes use the good ol' "shake the camera and cut every .5 seconds and that will make it look cool" technique. As an suspenseful action movie this film is nothing great. But the horrible attempt at making a smart political movie drags it down even more. This was by far the one if the worst movies I saw in 2016.
