The Exorcist (1973)
Mediocre horror, extremely overrated movie in overall
I don't know why this has 8,0 rating here. I first read the book, then saw the movie but both doesn't convince me of any genius staff in it. While when reading a book I can definitely find a lot of better horror novels out there in comparing with Blattys one - for example Bram Stokers Dracula, in the movie there is no real atmosphere whatsoever in overall. Only things worth mentioning are scenes with possessed Reagan but other than that movie has chaotic plot build up, weak dialogs and only mediocre acting. Definitely not something I need to watch again or even look for spin offs. For example if I didn't read the book I wouldn't know from the movie why there was a scenes in Iraq at the beginning and what are connections for further possession.
Law & Order (1990)
Probably most consistent TV Shows ever
Both, original Law and Order and SVU are for me the most consistent on quality level...of course it all has to do with pretty similar set up in every episode in terms of plot construction but still - you can watch 200- 300 episodes without feeling that show drop on quality level too much. And this fact is very important when you consider those shows with super first seasons but very cheap last ones or late (good example is Dexter or Lost)...writers and actors just stick to their routine throuought all those years and you can enjoy "down the Earth" cop show. Unlike "cool cops" in all the CSI, this is performed the way I really believe this is how real police work can look. Best characters in my opinion from both shows - Ben Stone, Jack Mckoy, Lennie Briscoe and John Munch.
The X Files (1993)
Could be total great but it is "just" great:)
I would rate this by 9 or 10 out of 10 but last 5 seasons don't allowed that! Start was incredible during years when show was premiered but you can still enjoy it in this days if you re watch...however with every season upcoming the show fall and fall down hard - season 4 was yet solid, season 5 already too stereotype and what starts from season 6 is hard to describe:) The show doesn't follow the plot and even own atmosphere anymore and is filled by some very weird episodes! Yet you can find good story when you either suffer all these seasons through 5-9 or just directly skip to shows finale - The Truth. Two hour episode is an old good X Files thing and wrapped up the entire story pretty solid. So in overall - the show is very, very good but it struggles with consistency because of all these long 9 years...
Dexter (2006)
Peak performance of current TV Show era!
I don't wanna be a smart ass but what strikes me before Dexter was even created was - how on Earth nobody figures out this type of story for TV?? Of course we had a serial killers such as Lecter but to take a full look inside head of one is completely new level:)We all judge them but how is to be inside of one and feel what he feels, thinks and judge after that?? Great concept but it is only partial part of this show completion!
Never was fan of Spanish type of songs but suddenly here comes Daniel Licht and his music at Miami Parties scenes (especially in first season) just fits great! And of course this is just minor contribution to all other type of soundtrack used in this show.
Michael C. Hall can incredibly portrait behavior of serial killer and you fully feel there is something off with Dexter:) His movements and especially that thing in his eyes! And of course his voice! how could I not mentioned:)
Acting in general is something what achieve a new level of perfection on this and other great current TV Shows! Now you can really believe those characters and feel like they are real person (even if they are psycho:)) Many times I caught myself to enjoy episodes like I was in theater especially considering acting quality!
You can go on and on with reviewing this...this is what just dropped of me:)
Almost Dead (1994)
Not "movie award" material but still:)
Yes I know - this is not a great high class movie but it is one of scariest things you can watch if you are in right age (my first when I was in my 6-10 years young...the lady "almost ghost" scared a hell out of me and I saw her every time I closed my eyes back in days:) And second thing is a good soundtrack in this movie...so overall I think if you will watch it just like horror movie during night you wont be disappointed...But once you will start think about the whole plot construction you may find yourself at least confused :D Points out of 10: 1 for overall quality, 1 for soundtrack and 1 because I still feel nostalgic about it:) Wow, this is just my second review and I realized that to fill 10 lines is not that easy:)
The Shield (2002)
Great potential ruined!
I personally think this show is very overrated! The plot is set up great but it all blows over the way how the show is shooting - acting, camera, too high paced....characters are described well but its performing by actors, even with our Vic Mackey, doesn't convince me at all! Just average TV Show good to your afternoon coffee:) I mean when I compare this to lets say LAW AND ORDER (1990) or LAW AND ORDER-SVU, both shows beat The Shield especially in how I believe characters in it, how they look more close to real people even LaO doesn't that good-bad cop conflict so much....my opinion. I mean playing by those actors in Shield just looks too casual, too innocent...when you compare it to new stars like Dexter or Boss or Suits you find yourself believe that you are watching a high quality theathre more than just a TV Show....but The Shield is just a TV Show case:)
