This movie had so much potential to be great but it simply devolves into ridiculousness.
The writer, director and ultimately the producers, who allowed a ludicrous screenplay to get made into this film, failed this project miserably. The production team must have really thought they were being so creative and artsy but instead simply ended up making the film absurd, ruining the story a historic event in favor of an egocentric attempt to be edgy and artistic.
Even without the senseless interspersion of interpretive dance throughout the film and, unbelievably during the most important moments of the film at the end, this film still falls flat.
There could have been so much more tension between the terrorists themselves, the terrorists and the hostages, and with the Ugandan government.
The filmmakers could have touched on the positions of the Palestinian officials, the French government, and could have been much more substantive with Idi Amin, who is a fascinating character. Instead, they chose to focus on a meaningless relationship with an insignificant Israeli soldier and his girlfriend who is a dancer. It just makes no sense and does nothing to further the plot.
The best part of the story was glossed over in a matter of seconds. It's actually unbelievable, as the raid itself is by far the most interesting part of the story.
Do yourself a favor and skip this film and instead watch Raid on Entebbe.
