The Returned (2013)
Well done and original.
The zombie genre has been taken over by hacks, exploiters of the boom of the genre, and really monotony.
This movie is anything but. It's a great take on a fantastic genre created by the masterful George Romero. Now days zombie apocalyptic movies are a joke, not to be taken seriously. This film restores the integrity of the zombie genre. Zombie movies, comedy or not, should always tell a tale about humanity and othering...at least the good ones.
The Returned, takes the idea of othering in brings it to the forefront of the story, where the people who live with a zombie virus held back by a drug that must be taken regularly, are treated as 2nd class citizens and worse, depending on the socioeconomic level, and explores the modern nature of our society (sorry for the run-on sentence).
The movie has flaws, but this isn't a mega budget movie, where you can afford a team of writers. Yet on it's own it still holds up very well got good settings and good performances.
Grab a beer and put on your thinking cap, and enjoy.
Captain Phillips (2013)
Hard to review because, it's so factually wrong!
I usually give very low scores to films that are intentionally misleading. But I can't with this one because it is very well done and Hanks and Abdi really do a great job, especially Abdi, he was cast for a number of good reasons, one is for authenticity, something that Hollywood blockbusters fail at miserably.
I also give this move a bit of break because of how the piracy problem of the coast of Somalia was presented...very black and white, and yes that a pun. The reality of the situation is quite strikingly different. And for me this is rather offensive to discredit the plight of the Somali people and to show captain Phillips in a good light. Phillips was very self-interested trying to make a bonus at the cost of the entire crew, and the company that owned the boat encouraged zPhillips' decision to avoid dangerous waters...how about that for a truth bomb?
You can look up the facts on your own, but if the same was done by other nations of the coast of America, I promise you that there would be a serious reaction and the Coast Guard and the NAVY would get involved immediately. But since Somalia has no NAVY or an ability to have an weight in negotiations with the EU members, the Western World just crapped all over the poorest and most defenseless country in Africa...or close to it.
So, I don't appreciate create a case of heroism in this film, where it was mostly self-interest, negligence, and completely no information given about the politics which created this dangerous situation.
Lastly, I'm not defending the pirates themselves, I don't know anything about them, and I'm sure to do pirate work you have to be a morally compromised person...at best. Still, the pirates only became in existence because of horribly predatory actions of the West.
Her (2013)
Two movies in one. One is boring the other interesting.
Wanted to watch a new take on an AI move, but got mostly a love story. And yes I don't watch romance, other than films like Romancing the Stone or True Romance.
I figured this was going to be a sappy chick movie, but I just love sci-fi, so I gav it a go. It started of very interestingly very sci-fi, and I was sucked in, only to discover a lot of the sci-fi elements to disappear completely. I usually stop movies when I find them disinteresting, hence if you look at my profile, I usually just give good reviews. But I couldn't stop this one. Phoenix, is a rarely good actor who can redefine a script, and. I have a middle school like crush on Johansson. Her voice acting was super cute.
The movie picks up again with interesting sci-fi elements, and ends in an interesting way. I should add to the sci-fi elements ore often psychological which made it so mush more interesting. One also has to question, how such a powerful AI was ever released to the public. I certainly would never have, but one can also argue that the real sentient AI is basically impossible to program, but would and will come more as an emergent quality...so perhaps the designers weren't aware of it's wild and possible dangerous potential, for example biing misused by a military for strategical and tactical purposes.
I will probably should have given this a movie a 7/10 score, but I felt bamboozled, into watching a pure romance story without realizing until it was too late. And frankly I didn't like the elements of the love story. It really is a women's interpretation of what love should look like, it really pandered to the female audience leaving out half of the population, which is fine, but I had no idea. For me this movie really dragged.
For me it was sort of like going to see Baby Driver wanting to see a cool heist movie, but all I got was a cheesy musical and a love story...like the worst combination possible. I have no one to blame but myself, usually don't like to watch trailers because they often spoil the move.
If you are reading this to see what type of movie this is, I hope it is helpful. Yet I don't want to discourage sci-fi fans. This movie still has an interesting point of view on the nature of sentience, humanity, and AI.
Either way, if you are reading this and.
Harpoon (2019)
A must see for any fan of the thriller/horror genre!
I loved this movie because it was far outside of the Hollywood mainstream. This wasn't made to appeal to as many viewers as possible, with focus groups dictating every scene of the movie.
The screenplay is fantastic, acting is good, the cinematography and editing while nothing to write home about, is very clean good at showing the narrative. This is a micro-budget film, so you can't expect to hire a famous cinematographer or editor here.
The plot is fantastic, with twists and turns, and then some more. I really like that this movie really takes a deep dive into the 'custom of the sea.' And if you don't know what it is, no problem, the narrator, will explain it to you...not everyone is a fan of maritime history.
I can't say anything about the story or the premise other than that, otherwise I will ruin the movie for you. Watch the original trailer if you like to get a taste...it's fantastic and funny.
As far as some of you gore hounds, unlike other reviewers, it's not some over the top Tarantino film. But it is graphic, which makes a lot of sense in order to tell this tale. This is far from a gore-fest.
One last thing to mention, is I believe the poor reviews come from people who never finished the movie or just ignored it from the begging. I almost did the same thing! While it starts great, some of the bad decisions of the characters (main staple of any thriller of horror movie), seem to be very unlikely given their level of education.
Yet don't let this fool you. There is a reason for some of the poor choices made the the characters. I know I was rather disappointed at the seeming plot holes that seem at first to be derivative to keep the action moving...like in any other Hollywood horror film. But only to be pleasantly surprised how wrong I was!
So, enjoy the movie, and don't worry about the low budget, this movie certainly looks and feels like a big budget production. Thank you modern technology!
Life of Pi (2012)
The theology is absurd, I didn't appreciate it crammed down my throat.
I understand why people enjoy this movie. It is very well executed. Some of the detractors only really complain about the CGI...well, to those I say, get on a boat with a massive tiger, shoot a better film, lol...I'm sure the acting would be get better 100%...for a very short movie.
While the story is good, and it retells a gruesome, story of Richard Parker (1884), and probably other cases, of the 'custom of the seas." As an avid sailor (most of my sailing is done via books, lol) this story was very appealing to me, and it's historical significance involving the major trial, to set a common law practice of 'the custom of the sea."
If you're unfamiliar with maritime history, just watch the movie and don't google anything until the end of the movie! For those who know, I was very surprised who was named Richard Parker in the script...but I sort of get it, in a fun cheeky way.
Now, what I don't like in this film, is the consistent preaching and proselytizing of whatever religion the screenplay writer imagines he believes. The screen writer is clearly a poor student or world religions, and has an obvious disdain for anyone who is secular. But yet the audience is forced to swallow his theology from the begging of the movie to the end.
The reason for 4/10 stars is one of the major aspects of making a great film is to propose a thesis, and then to explore it via story telling. And while I do love the tale of 'the custom of the sea." The film does a terrible job of exploring the old sea tales, in order to push the theologically absurd thesis. Thus failing miserably at both.
Lastly, I can see how the theology appeals to people who are not familiar religions, and have never read any actual religious texts. So, enjoy a birth of a new religion...that might be a nice way of putting it.
Revealing Ukraine (2019)
Wild unsubstantiated conspiracy theories...and I love Stone's Films!
You can look up my review history, and I think I have only given a 1/10 one time before for The Passion of Christ by Mel Gibson (I love Mel's movies).
The 1/10 rating for me is for films that are gross misinformation in the face of obvious historical and factual information.
I think the other reviewers have pointed out some of the terrible gross misrepresentation of facts, like referring to the Revolution of Dignity of 2014 as coup-d'etat, over and over again. Or the wild lies about the history of Ukraine by Putin and some Ukrainian oligarch, which are never challenged in the documentary.
I would also add that the Right Sector, isn't a neo-Nazi organization, which lead Ukrainians into the front line to get shot by neo-Nazi snipers, this was presented as a hypothesis, with zero evidence!
Then for some wild reason the second half of this documentary, went off on some wild tangent about the Ukrainian interference in US elections of 2016...in order to support Clinton. Which is just wild, because the Trump's campaign manager Manafort, was fired by Trump because of his ties to Russia! Of course as a side not after Manafort was already sitting in a fed prison, Tump then pardons him after rolling Manafort under the bus.
I can keep going about the falsely presented percentages, in charts, or suggesting that George Soros, was the main orchestrator behind the Revolution of Dignity, because Soros established a fund to help Ukrainians...23 years ago. And no mention about what the mass protest was actually about! And on and on and on...
Sorry, can't stop, at the end of the documentary Ukraine is presented as the aggressor agains Russia! And blames the Revolution of Dignity for the further destruction of the Ukraine's economy, without mentioning the Russian invasion of the Danbas region and along the Ukrainian borders right after the change of government!!!
This entire documentary is pro-Putin propaganda.
Lastly, I want to mention this documentary's biggest sin, is this film is exceptionally boring. It's basically two talking heads who have committed unspeakable crimes against the Ukrainian people, and some ideologue "journalist." That's all we get...
Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom (2015)
Inspiring! We in the West should look at this uprising an educational tool.
A fantastic look at the perceptions of the protesters without involving various government talking heads, who will mostly just obfuscate the Maidan protesters' mindset.
This doc is simply interesting because of the amazing footage and interviews from the average people who were there at ground zero. Something, I have never seen before as these events unfolded. US media was horrible at covering the Orange revolutionary evens. The coverage in the US was really non-existent, and certainly obfuscated the actual events.
This documentary is also inspirational to the people of the Western World. Ukrainians faced torture, kidnappings, regular brutal beatings from the riot police who were armored, and armed with weapons. While we her in America are afraid to protest because we don't feel want to be inconvenienced, from our TV shows.
We should take away from this documentary that if people in America don't self-organized and make demands of our government now, in the future we also will face violence from the government.
If the Ukrainians could accomplish their political goals in the face of extreme position, We the People, don't have any excuses not to stand up and to demand for what is right!
Lastly, I don't understand comparing "Winter on Fire" to "Ukraine on Fire," as if one is more honest than the other. The two documentaries are two points of data about the Orange Revolution. These documentaries are not in opposition, they are both great...although, Winter on Fire is definitely more inspirational for future activists.
Ukraine on Fire (2016)
I'm from Ukraine and the former USSR, and this is just a documentary...which is decent.
I looked throw the polarizing reviews. And it's rather sad. There isn't "the truth," or "pure Russian propaganda." This documentary was made before the war in Ukraine was made public to the Western World. Most of the polarizing reviews are written after the major invasion of Ukraine.
Now after getting the nonsense out of the way. I really enjoyed this documentary because it gives the audience a fresh look at the Ukrainian conflict, between the East and the West. Oliver Stone I'm sure isn't a genius like Noam Chomsky but he is looking at the Ukrainian problem in this doc, from his perspective, and this is very obvious. Gray or grey...not right or wrong.
What I really enjoyed about Oliver's documentary, is that I got a fresh perspective, different from the major networks from around the Globe. I go new information that I was never exposed to before. Giving me an opportunity research new material.
A documentary isn't meant to be a justification for one cause or another, it's hardly two hours long! A good documentary is meant to peak your interests and open your mind to new perspectives...that is all. Any doc that claims "The Truth," is obviously just propaganda/marketing.
Oliver went out of his way not to make an outright claim on knowing the answer. And this is the reason I enjoyed watching it so much. Right or wrong, I got new insightful information! Which is a lot more than what our mass media feeds us...
The GOAT (2024)
Best reality TV show, I have seen so far!
One big reason I am really enjoying this show is because Tosh is the host, I'm a big fan. Also, really don't like any reality TV shows I have seen, and I've seen quite a few...well, because I have dated a number of women, so it comes with the territory.
One thing I really have about reality TV is that these shows take themselves far to seriously, and the contenders as well. I'm sure in most reality TV shows have applied psychologists pick the reality actors, to be psychologically toxic, sociopathic, and create an environment for terrible behavior. Or, really most reality TV is just boring, and pointless.
The GOAT, is definitely a light hearted show, which really make fun of reality TV, via satire. I also, like the contestants, because they do have fun personalities, some are just charming. And in the GOAT things do "get real" so that aspect is fun to watch in moderate doses.
If you are like me, I think you will really enjoy the GOAT. For those who are big fans of reality TV, I can see how this show might not have enough entertainment value for you. Still, for the reality TV lovers, this show does have everything, so give it a go. You might enjoy a more light hearted funny satire.
The Sugarland Express (1974)
Very interesting, but entertaining sporadically.
I love 70s films...wasn't born in the 70s.
This film has a special charm. The romance is believable. The couple isn't just enamored with each other, they get annoyed, mad, and quarrelsome.
Goldie is amazing as always. But I loved her play a simple Southern gal. I only know Goldie from films, but if you told me she is from the south I would easily believe it. She is that good in this film.
What made this movie particularly lovable for me, is that in the beginning, the couple seem to be just complete simpletons completely devoid of any empathy. But as the film progressed and learning more about the characters, I became empathetic to the three main characters. And this is were I think the brilliance of this screenplay and the combination of acting is.
As far as pure entertainment value...for me in 2024, I only got it in a number of amazing scenes. I feel the movie dragged a bit, but it was never uninteresting.
Grab a beer, spark it up, or just get some popcorn, sit back, put on your thinking cap and enjoy!
Duel (1971)
It's a 70s movie! And it's really a horror film.
I love 70s films, and stumbled into this one. I love good car stunts and the screen play is written by one of the greatest writers, Richard Matheson. I case you're a philistines, he is the author who wrote, I Am Legend!
Right away, the movie was beautifully done, with fantastic cinematography, set in the beautiful American West. In case some of you don't know to this day the American West, is sparsely populated, and back in the 70s the population density was far less dense than it is now, without cell phones. So the premise is set...
As the movie progressed I got sucked into it right away, but nearing the climax I was getting bored and disappointed. The climax and the resolution was absolutely fantastic, and worth the wait. Yet I was confused on how to rate this film.
After thinking about it for a bit, I realized that if I thought of this film as a horror film it made a lot more sense! It is written my a master of horror who inspired authors like Steven King, and directors like Romero (director of Night of the Living Dead). In addition this is a 70s film and in this decade a lot of movies were highly metaphorical, but very subtle to leaving the viewer to create his own opinion...so a great conversation movie.
The main reason I suggest of thinking about this film as horror, is because the villain, clearly has supernatural powers, and our protagonist reminds us of this by being as baffled as I was by the performance of the truck and the truck drivers ability, which defied laws of physics, and the unbelievable power of the trucks diesel engine.
The truck is definitely a monster out of Hell. It's rusted out, discolored, pouring tons of black smoke, and it's a tanker possibly full of highly combustable material...which would make diving it very difficult, with shifting fluid.
Last thing to mention is the stunt driver for the truck is a legend, who preformed in some of the most iconic movies in history, such as Road Warrior/Mad Max 2. So, sit back grab a beer, and enjoy!
The Last Stop in Yuma County (2023)
It's fun it's different, and it's a old western morality play. What's not to love.
Nice interesting take on the heist take genre. Lots of inspiration from obviously Quintin, spaghetti westerns especially The Good the Bad and the Ugly. The story unfolds in this wild paranoid situation that can blow up at any moment. You will sit on the edge of the seat during this one.
This film is also set in what looked to me the 60s, so you get a great bit of Americana here and who doesn't love that? The small town in the middle of know where where the gas truck is late an the gas station is out of gas sets up the plot for the entire movie, which is great story telling device. Very possible scenario out west especially in the 60s. I also, love that everyone has a gun on them, which isn't that out of the ordinary in a small American town...though I am only speaking from a current modern perspective of living is small town USA.
Some of the negatives, is sort of basic Hollywood trope on how guns work, which is rather silly, but at least in this movie the unrealistic gun battle, is very important to set up the morality of the characters.
We all believe we are good people, but when the opportunity is there to get away with a crime, this is what really sets apart from the good the bad and the ugly.
Boy Kills World (2023)
Psychedelic, hallucinations, severe metal illness, and a bit of the ultra violence.
If you are bored with the same plot line and tropes of every revenge film, this one is for you my friends. Our main protagonist, does psychedelic drugs, has regular hallucinations, and from the years of severe mental and physical abuse, becomes an unhinged but likable monster.
At this movie's heart it's really a dark comedy, narrated by the lovable and hilarious H. Jon Benjamin a legend for his voice work on Archer and Bob's Burgers, and many more. Mr. Benjamin is the inner dialogue for our protagonist because he is deaf and mute!
The plot of this movie is fun but rather bland because the story mostly progresses through non-stop action sequences, but the action is pretty funny and gory.
This film is also a satire on other action movies, and is a stern warning to the Western World if it succumbs to the neofascism which is strongly coming back in countries like Italy and America.
Barbarian (2022)
Great horror but vastly misunderstood.
Most horror films just follow the exact same plot outline. Where Barbarian tries to redefine the horror genre. It has great character development, fantastic acting, and it doesn't try to be just another hunted house experience on a screen like so many flicks.
As far as some of the other viewer and critic complaints come from ignorance. It seems that a lot of reviewers have never lived in a big city (I mean lived, not staying locked up in your luxury condo community, working some IT job from home), and get their understanding of big city life from perhaps movies and news.
Yes city life can be quite different, and yes when there are huge conventions or events, city hotels not only get booked up but the prices become prohibitive for majority of Americans, and cops don't give care like they do in the movies, there is no CSI investigations, or even going to a known criminals house because he didn't commit murder on a security camera...lol, this is my only spoiler.
As far as the poor decision making of the characters, well it's part of being human, and without poor life choices there would never be any movies made. Life is about dealing with poor choices. But I digress, most of the decisions made buy the characters are clearly explained by their situation, and follows the character developments in a congruent manner...unlike just about every other horror movie.
Drugstore June (2024)
Very nice and refreshing movie.
Good satire on the mental state of young Americans. And yes I'm talking about late Gen Y and early Gen Z (specifically you, lol).
This movie while also funny and entertaining with great acting. Is a great way to decompress and see that there are other people than you who think that the InstaTweetTickTock generation is socially awkward, self-absorbed, very frightened of everything, and have very little attention to anything other than the apps on their phones.
The satire in this movie is great, and very interesting, because our main protagonist has almost zero awareness that she is the subject of the satire...and I can see how some audience might not find it funny. Drugstore June heavily relies on irony and sarcasm to get it's comedic point across, and not much else.
I think my favorite shtick, is that June (protagonist) behaves often very cringy, but yet thinks everyone around her is "cringe."
Enjoy!
Civil War (2024)
If you read history books and follow wold affairs, I highly recommend this film!
This move has every element of a great war movie. It's gritty, visceral, violence is sporadic and and intense. If you are into guns and military tactics this film also delivers, this is not a John Wick gun-fu film.
The cinematic style is also great. It's the sort that makes you feel like you are in the scene, without the "lost tape footage" shaky camera style. Feels a lot like the final fight scene in Heat, with the addition of some cool surreal shots.
I also love how the civil war is explained. It unveils through the eyes of a team of news reporters on the ground and not via various political heads talking tough, in their bunkers. So, there isn't a story of various political power grab agendas. Just war, and it's effect the on people caught-up in the middle of some power struggle.
As far as the plot it's rather simple like in Apocalypse Now. Where the characters are a vehicle for the audience of a tour of war. Except this time the characters are not high speed warriors but civilian news crew.
This movie is just sit on the edge of your seat have a beer and enjoy the show. There are much deeper more layered moments, but I understand that not everyone reads the same books so the points might be missed.
That's Sexploitation! (2013)
Surprisingly very informative and fun.
When I put this film on, I was expecting it to be mildly entertained and I would just skip through a lot of the scenes.
It turned out to be great. Great history of Americana, presented in a very fun way, and in serious tone too.
The clips of the sex films throughout history were actually great. Lots of very relevant humor, and very odd as well. Really, placing your imagination into the past.
As far as just carnal, pleasure of watching this...I don't think there is much, but I was quite surprised as to some scenes how sexually appealing some of the women are, in the styles of the past.
Give this film a go...you can always, hit the stop button. Also, in full disclosure I am a general history buff, I felt very satisfied in that aspect as well!
The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen (2018)
Mostly for children. Could have been better researched.
I would rate this PG at best. I expected this, but was hoping for some better historical imagery to keep me entertained. I'm a huge fan any history of exploration.
Unfortunately for me this series ties in a lot of early American politics and military battles told from a very child friendly perspective, which really doesn't interest me much as far as entertainment. I was hoping for more details regarding the explorers themselves.
I stopped watching after the second episode. Half of the episode derailed into some unrelated material to the fist part of the episode, really don't know why...there was so much to tell about Lewis and Clarks famous expedition.
Yes there are some historical inaccuracies especially when it comes to historical clothing, some firearms, bows, etc. But a lot of that is very expected. Overall, I wouldn't fret much at all. This is clearly an extremely low budget production. If this was a big Hollywood film, it would irk me fore sure...but just about every Hollywood historical drama is mostly fiction based on lose events. This series is definitely for more superior, in the respect of having a cohesive historical chronology.
There were a few major historical inaccuracies, and I'm really not sure why. Probably one of the reasons I lost interest, because I got sick of using google and wikipedia to double check on historical events. But as some of you history buffs out-there, I'm sure you know that there multiple perspectives, and outright lies when it comes to retelling of history.
I will conclude that this is still cool for children to watch, as long that they understand that they need to learn how to fact check. I hope this series will inspire children to really enjoy history as a story, and not just a series of dates and names to regurgitate on a test in school!
Unacknowledged (2017)
Just nothing new, and loaded with misinformation.
I saw the high reviews and got interested. Was hoping for discussion of actual UFO evidence/sightings. But all I saw was just the usual.
Throwing big names around, taking quotes out of context, especially that of Carl Sagan, and making huge leaps of assumptions. Then juxtaposing photos that are unrelated to the content discussed...I don't think I can even finish watching this (watching now), lol.
I think I'm checking out, more than half way in and all I am seeing are association fallacies...just can't, I'm 100% sure this documentary will just drone on, and do the same over and over.
Disclosure: I have no issues with UFOs/UAPs. Had an interesting sighting myself, and it was corroborated exactly as I have seen it by another person in the same parking-lot.
The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) (2015)
Not bad just too long.
The movie is a bit winded and long, but this is what you audience demand, so soak-up your time and enjoy.
This film is ridiculous to an extreme, sure poor acting and other quality issues. But I think the acting of the lead was on point with the theme of the movie.
All the talk of poor production value is a bit overused. There is not a chance that a major production company would support such a move.
Just enjoy it for what it is. I tired skipping through certain scenes because it does get a bit dull, but then I realized I was missing goofy moments that makes this film watchable.
Again, if this movie was just 30 minutes shorter I think it would be a pleasant ride.
Zombies (2017)
Decent for a low budget film if you are a zombie genre fan.
Yes the acting isn't very good the script could have been polished up, and I don't think the director is good at all, as a writer he is definitely better.
But it is a low budget film, and you have to understand how difficult to make a decent move on a low budget! Firstly, you are working under very limited time constrains...meaning less takes and do overs. Secondly, you can't afford decent actors who can do a good scene under 10 takes. Nor, you can afford various advisors. Just the camera, sound, and lighting cost a fortune...and limits your filming time.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie and I think it could have been significantly better if the director scaled the film back a bit. He tried to make it look big budget, but should have scaled it bit down a bit.
By the way, why in all these post-apocalyptic the characters just drop all the high quality weapons when the ammo runs out!!! It's just dumb. Hell, you can even easily manufacture your own ammo.
Daylight's End (2016)
Why do they always throw away the guns....?
For the budget the film is good. Cool plot with a few big holes....but we have to forgive that again for the budget or length of shooting time.
Acting, seemed rushed again I assume that the actors didn't have enough takes or perhaps the director just sucked. Obviously the screenplay dialogue could have been a little bit less on the nose.
I had some issues with the lead. He seemed to try Clint Eastwood a lot. And what's up with throwing away your rifles and guns when they run out of ammo! This is the apocalypse!!! Bullets are way more available than guns and once you get used to your gun that's how you get much better at shooting it.
Movie is still good but the budget seems to be a major constrain for what it appears to accomplish. Too really enjoy this film you really have to come in mind as you are watching a stage play, and then it works great!
I Think We're Alone Now (2018)
Great film, good pacing.
This film appropriate pacing for what it is supposed be. The apocalypse, with a man left alone after a major die-off. This is the type of stuff I have never seen before. And I watch a lot of post-apocalyptic movies.
This film hits the spot on what an actual apocalypse would look like given the amount of dead. But I understand why some people don't like it. We are a nation of addicts to our smartphones, where we watch a video on youtube and simultaneously watch a movie one TV.
And I'm part of this addiction as well I'm not above it, I can hardly read a book anymore.
I also suspect that people didn't get enough eye candy and would lose interest and miss out on all the subtleties this movie has to offer. There is lot tension that most views just missed out on.
My only criticism, is I wish the ending was a little longer. But the writer certainly shows enough to understand the situation, especially if you watch post-apocalyptic films.
This film just itches the scratch that a lot of production companies are afraid to enter in. Enjoy!
Ambulance (2022)
It's a big budget Hollywood movie...but still enjoyable.
I think most of the capers enthusiasts, will find something new in this film. It has a very different plot line, where the film starts at a bank heist going wrong.
A lot of flack that this movie is getting is typical. This movie was created based on regular Hollywood tropes, it's rather predictable...but not always, and a lot if the guts of this interesting film has been taken out by Hollywood executives, marketing geniuses, and focus groups. At the sacrifice of a cohesive plot and logic...so, nothing if you like blockbusters at the cinema.
Overall, it's a very decent movie, with great performances, stunts, and a different take on a caper. Great movie, to zone out, grab a beer and just chill on the couch...or obviously at the theatre...with a beer.
Impulse (1984)
Great film for the right viewer!
Firstly to enjoy this film, you have to have some basic knowledge, on how various, governmental agencies and the military industrial complex conduct themselves. Lots of real examples, that have been declassified under the FOIA, or just available but ignored by the big press.
Secondly, this film will not entertain people who love the super fast pacing of modern big budget films which rely to exploit your senses by ridiculous nonstop fight scenes, CGI cars that defy all laws of physics, etc. Impulse, doesn't have the slow pace of 70s westerns, but it is slow enough where you have to think carefully about what the characters are thinking and feeling.
I'm sure the horror junkies who especially love zombie films will enjoy Impulse...given that the viewer has the first or second parameters, listed above.
You, know who you are so either skip this for Fast and Furious 23, or enjoy this hidden gem.
