THE EASY WAY TO NOT STOP SMOKING
26 May 2018
WARNING! Such a captivating and addictive show should come with a government health warning. If you are a sucker for great acting and high drama then maybe you will be drawn to watching this series episode after episode. But be warned, if you are trying to quit smoking or have quit, beware, because smoking is a mainstay in this series - at times many characters indulging in heavy smoking as a habit throughout. More than any 1930's movie, this series provoked my impulse to smoke far greater than I have previously experienced. In fact I think chain-smoking compliments this experience because it is hard to avoid with characters lighting up so often and so wantonly. Good thing it is only three seasons long then. I'm happy to keep rolling until the end and hope by that time I will have truly had my fill

The Empire Strikes Back II
3 May 2018
There are a great many reviews out there for this film, so I thought it would be relevant to say this for those who are fans of the Marvel Universe series who are planning to see this movie: I am guessing you will probably not like, maybe not get and probably ruin your enjoyment of this franchise if you have gaps in your Marvel movie watching. If you have seen most of them but have missed the last four movies before this, for instance - it won't be the same at all.

Do yourself a favour if you are invested in this franchise. I know that sounds dubious as if I were a paid shill, but be real: Marvel do not need anyone's advertisement at this point.

I say this mainly because, seeing as friends and family are going out to see this in groups and have missed recent movies, they will not get the most from Infinity War. I have seen the film twice already, and the more people I know who are going out to see it with films missing, the more I feel bad that they will not get the best experience. If you have never seen a Marvel movie, I would not bother.

In essence it would be like watching The Empire Strikes Back without first having seen Star Wars: A New Hope, or watching the last season of Game of Thrones without having seen the previous seasons. It would just make no sense and ruin all that could be. If you haven't seen some of the recent movies like Guardians of The Galaxy vol2, Dr. Strange, Spider-Man:Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok and Black Panther, do yourself a favour and borrow them from a friend, take the time to enjoy them; then watch this. I think it would be pointless otherwise. The movie is going to be out for a while so I feel there is plenty of time to catch up.

I saw it in IMAX 3D, which was amazing, and then again in Real3D, which was also unexpectedly amazing. The IMAX showing gave this big film the big experience the film deserved though.

Just thought I had to put this message out there. No point having a ten year story arc ruined for no good reason at all.

Also, there are some pretty heavy scenes which I don't think would be good for very young kids who won't understand what is going on. I think my Nephew would probably be traumatised, he is only 6. Plus the film is very long, 2 hours and 30 minutes. He would not hold out that long without needing to go for a break, so if he does end up coming with us to see it we will need seats near the exit for breaks. Perhaps being a bit shocked might be good for kids nowadays. Star Wars certainly was shocking for me when I was little, and that only made the experience better.

I really enjoyed this movie thinking I would be possibly disappointed, having bought and read the original comics back in the early 90's

I will probably be seeing this more than 10 times!

Wishing all a great time at the movies this Summer

Excelsior!

Krypton (2018–2019)
10/10
Great characters and lots of action. Very 80s in it's delivery. I am happy :)
29 April 2018
As soon as this show was out I sat down to watch the first episode and had this jarring feeling that things were not right. The East-London accents, seeing someone walking around in a baseball cap on an alien planet. I didn't finish. I was going to leave a low review score, but I don't see the point in doing that and thought it would be unfair to do that without really giving the series a try. Re-watching episode one ~ "Oh! The person with the baseball cap is actually from Earth" "Doh!". I found the Cockney accents a bit less jarring and by the end of the episode with the main Villain reveal - actually quite shocking - I was hooked and watching the second, and I have to say I love these characters, the Villains, SPecial FX and style of Cinematography, very 80s, reminds me of V The Series (but without the political subtext) and at times the Beauty and The Beast TV series crossed with Jupiter Ascending. Some of it, the lighting, sets and exterior shots remind me of Blade Runner a bit too. In it's way it is quite camp :) Lots of great shots of the villains and their villainous expressions ;) I wish the seductive Kryptonian with Marlon Brando Superdad hair would be far more vampish the way she started, and that there were less Earth-like instances such as swearing and technology being somewhat similar to nowadays' . Some of the costumes don't look Kryptonian enough for me, while others are really really impressive. The music uses a lot of voices and has an 80s edge to it also a lot. Overall it gets a 10 from me because the whole thing works well enough that I ignore what bugs me in favour of what is great about it and just want more and more, it's like an 80s sci fi dream show for me, happy days :)

Best Bruce Willis Movie For Years - Good " Death Wish " Remake ~ A+
9 April 2018
I am a long time fan of the original Death Wish movies, Charles Bronson, Michael Winner and also Bruce Willis - and revenge movies in general. As soon as this came out I had to go see it and it was much much better than I thought it might be, even with some coy witty humour. The audience loved it too and when it ended there was a much better vibe in the theatre than the past few movies I've seen recently. If I could change anything it would have more violence, more action scenes - and be longer .. however it was still great to see a decent action movie not infected with chronic drunken camera man syndrome shaky cam crap. It isn't that hard, you've just got to not be too pretentious and get on with it! A+

Wonder Woman Begins
31 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
******SPOILERS: JUST SEE THIS MOVIE AND MAKE YOUR OWN MIND UP FIRST ~ THEN READ THIS! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT - JUST WATCH IT ********

I just came back from seeing this movie at the bfi IMAX in Waterloo. There were much fewer people at this first screening than for any other movie, only about half or one-third sold. I have avoided watching any trailers or news or commentary, as I've found this completely ruins movies for me. From watching Batman vs Superman I was not sold on Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman - at all! Forlornly I re-watched the original series with Lynda Carter and laughed along with the early original comics and really felt they had missed such a great opportunity to show the massively fun side of Wonder Woman. I was wrong, and i'm Gladot that I was! The audience laughed at some bits that were a bit wooden or melodramatic and then were in hysterics as the banter begins, pushing the envelope more from what i expected from a DC movie, somewhat like Deadpool did for the MCU haha, because it was just like the original comics (+!) and she represents that true Wonder Woman well A+ !!! I felt at times like I was watching Frances Dee in a comedy role or a female Buster Keaton, the physicality of the humour;a complete flip-side to the couple of scenes that were a bit serious and flat - the audience accepted this as tongue-in-cheek, like we were all watching The Room or Spinal Tap together. We cheered her on. The characters and acting all were great in the sum-total of things. I am impressed by this witty Wonder Woman popcorn flick! *"Wonder Woman!"* Woo!

Great fun!
7 December 2016
Watched this at a packed evening viewing with lots of office workers, everyone laughed and had a good time especially at all the office banter. I really enjoyed TJ Miller's character, and overall I thought this movie was exciting which I'd been missing in movies lately Probably not for little kids so a warning there. In many ways I'm glad films are allowed to be ruder now, this movie would never have been allowed at the cinema during the 80's. If you like fun comedies and gross humour, and if you work in an office, you will probably like this I give it a ten because the movie made me happy Better-Than-Usual Christmas Movie

Boxing Clever
29 November 2016
This my first IMDb review after years of reading them, upon leaving the cinema though I thought this deserved it. Full marks for this movie, Miles Teller for his performance but most of all for Vinny Paz ( Pazienza ) who this biography is about.

I saw this on a good size screen tonight with an enthusiastic audience, and we loved it. There were a lot of laughs throughout and a tension in the room, I really felt for this guy! Great performances from the whole cast and Miles Teller was on top form looking extremely buff. Nice to see Katey Segal looking fantastic as she always has . I wouldn't want to spoil this for anyone who hasn't seen it, although if you are a boxing fan you already know the story, just to say at the end of the film there was a round of applause, the Italians being the most vocal ha ha

I only wish there had been more ~ now I want to watch all this boxer's fights
