Supernatural: Yellow Fever (2008)
Season 4, Episode 6
10/10
Really funny episode.
11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode revolves around 'ghost sickness'. Now I've seen most of the seasons of Supernatural and this was my favourite by a mile as the funniest episode. I actually laughed out loud. Jensen Ackles acting scared was brilliant and adorable. Jared Padelecki was a wonderful straight man. I have no idea how he kept such a straight face while Ackles was acting. Best part was at the end when Ackles was lip syncing to Eye of the Tiger by Survivor with the Padelecki laughing in the background. The comedic timing was perfect. There was some tragedy. The little girl who played imaginary Lillith was wonderful while taunting Dean.

Worst movie
24 December 2021
I usually love anything James Gunn is involved with. This movie was just awful. I couldn't even finish. Got halfway through and thought it was garbage. No wonder iTunes had it on sale. Don't waste your time. Two stars was generous.

Stellar acting

This was one of the best episodes in terms of acting technique by Charlie Hunnam. The sheer emotion in the end was perfectly done. So raw. Tears were in my eyes based upon Hunnam's emotions.

Nothing short of awesome for this film. I laughed, I cried. Stan even made an appearance. The end was quite fitting and touching.

Amusing

I wouldn't say it's laugh out loud funny but it does have funny bits. Rupert Grint is quite a good actor and the cast does well together. Interesting plot. I've recommended it to friends.

Best Show in a very long time
14 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love this show. Two extremely good looking guys who battle evil on every episode. Sam (Jared Padalecki)and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) inherited the occupation of hunters from their father (they later discover that it was their mother's side who were the hunters). During each episode they battle evil and, in a few episodes, good in the form of the angels. Sam and Dean, when they are investigating, take on fake identities with the names of well known rock band members. In one episode, they were Officers Tyler and Perry, an homage to Aerosmith. In another, they were DeYoung and Shaw, who were members of Styx. The actors are very well cast. Sam is level-headed and soulful. Dean is comedic and fearless. Eventually, we are introduced to Castiel, the angel who is a sidekick of sorts. Castiel is their guide from the higher angels who rescues Dean from Hell at the beginning of the fourth season. Wonderful acting by Misha Collins, BTW. There is also Ruby, the demon who on occasion assists them. She ends up as the traitor at the end of Season Four and the fiancé of Jared Padalecki (oh, darn). There are some recognizable faces (Christopher Hayerdahl, Marcus of New Moon fame for example). There is also great classic rock music like Blue Oyster Cult. All in all this is an entertaining series and I'm glad to hear it will be back for Season Six. Keep up the good work, Eric Kripke. :)

Better than Twilight
7 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this movie expecting lousy acting and a lame screenplay. What I found was actually surprising. The acting was much better than Twilight with the exception of Kristen Stewart's depiction of depression. That was the most disappointing part of the entire movie. Robert Pattinson did a much better job at feigning regret. Taylor Lautner held the tweens hearts while they screamed at his newly buff body. The story, itself, is the second of the Stephenie Meyer's series. It centres around Bella's depression after Edward and his family leave when Jasper actually tries to attack Bella after a paper cut at the family home. After the Cullens depart and she's had months of depression, Bella finds friendship and eventually more with Jacob Black. As everyone who's read the book knows, Edward returns eventually after Bella saves him from (pardon the pun) exposing himself to the humans. The Volturi were well casted as well as the part of Jane. Dakota Fanning makes for a worthy vampire. Overall, it is a good movie even though Kristen Stewart could've done a much better job.

Good Summer Action Flick
24 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Went to see this movie today at the IMAX. From the get-go it was exciting, funny and totally entertaining. The story is about Sam Witwicky who is off to college for the first time. As he's packing he wants to take his old hoodie from the first Transformers movie. As he's walking, he drops a piece of the All-Spark which causes some problems, since it melts through the floor into the kitchen. Cue the kitchen appliance mini-Decepticons. Very creative. Skip to Sam at college, Judy buys a pot brownie because the people who sold it told her it was "green". This was the funniest! Especially, Judy advising various students that her son's "cherry was popped". This was just as good if not better than the original. New characters were introduced. ie. The Twins who are very comical and Devastator who is a formidable foe. This film will do exceptionally well this summer. In fact, we're planning to see again.

Star Trek (2009)

Most entertaining
10 May 2009
Saw Star Trek at the IMAX today. It was exciting from the get go. The special effects were wonderful and the casting was perfect. I must say that I was awfully surprised when Karl Urban was cast as Dr. Leonard McCoy. However, I think DeForest Kelley would've been pleased with the choice. The characters meshed well and showed the traits of the original cast very well. Eric Bana was wonderful as the Romulan villain, Nero. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone as it is PURE entertainment and well worth the cost of seeing it on the IMAX screen. Oh, I loved the writer's sneaking in little catch phrases from the original series!

Cloverfield (2008)

Well put together
26 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this movie was great. I didn't know what to expect after I bought the DVD. I was pleasantly surprised. The plot is that Rob is going away as a V-P of a company located in Japan. His brother, Jason, his brother's girlfriend, Lily and Rob's best friend, Hud, throw him a party in a NYC apartment. There we find out that the woman Rob's in love with has brought another guy and an argument ensues. The gathering feels what is originally reported as an earthquake. The initial attack has taken place. The movie gives you hints as to what the monster looks like. The parasites are quite frightening as well. I really enjoyed the fact that I felt part of the movie at some points as I became engrossed in the story line. The only problem I had with the format was it can make you a bit nauseous if you're sensitive to motion. It's like when you watch someone's homemade videos and they move the camera too fast. Overall, I recommend everyone to watch it and hopefully, they'll enjoy it as much as I did.

The Border (2008–2010)
2/10
Totally unrealistic
3 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This is perhaps the most unrealistic series on TV. It's called The Border but filmed totally in Toronto (about an hour from the nearest border). About an 'elite' force called ICS (Immigration and Customs Security). Appears they are trying to match the popular CSI shows but it doesn't work. They're using old Canada Customs symbols on the uniforms. There's one point where a truck is stopped at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie before it goes to the US and there are cars stopped behind the truck while it's inspected. That wouldn't happen. There are situational and factual errors too numerous to mention. The story lines are weak and unimaginative.
