Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015)
Rachel Bloom is a genius
At first I was a little put off by the show because I wasn't sure where the storyline was supposed to go. Then I realised you really shouldn't focus on that with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend because it is such a unique concept.
The dark comedy in combination with the musical element is brilliant. The main character is an unreliable narrator which makes it so much more uncomfortable yet all the more heartbreaking when she hits rock bottom.
The side characters are a different spin on what we usually see in our comedies (the wacky neighbour, the bumbling boss, the quirky best friend, the handsome crush with the mean and gorgeous girlfriend) because after a while their own storylines start to develop and it gives them so much more personality.
When I finished the show I tried to look for something similar to make up for the empty feeling that was left after Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but frankly that was impossible, because who actually makes quality musical comedies?
To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020)
it made more sense than the first movie until the end
I think this one had a little less pointless drama in it than the first movie. It was set up more logically and the struggles of Lara Jean felt more realistic.
However, the chemistry between John and Lara Jean was much more believable than the chemistry between Peter and Lara Jean, so if it had ended differently, I would have given it a solid 7.
Too bad they managed to mess it up again.
The ending ruined it again for me.
