movies that were a disappointment to me...

by SmilingBird96 | created - 17 Sep 2011 | updated - 18 Sep 2011 | Public

Movies that I was excited to watch, but was very let down by my expectations not being any thing close to met. In order from worst disappointment to not as disappointed.

I've added an explanation as to why I was excited and disappointed in every movie on this list, because I feel without an explanation, it's just hatin'. Some of them may have spoilers.

1. Dinner for Schmucks (2010)

PG-13 | 114 min | Comedy

56 Metascore

After he finds out that his work superiors host a dinner celebrating the idiocy of their special guests, a rising executive questions the merits of his invitation just as he befriends a man who would be the perfect guest.

Director: Jay Roach | Stars: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Stephanie Szostak, Zach Galifianakis

Votes: 111,122 | Gross: $73.03M

Many people actually found this movie to be funny. Many people also don't know that this movie is based off a French film called Le Diner de Cons. The original French version was naturally funny with fun and natural characters. I was so excited when I heard about this movie, because I figured it would be the same movie more or less, without the need for subtitles and with Paul Rudd. Now, it's to be expected that, being an American film, this movie would be more "over the top", for lack of better words, than the French version...but really? They REALLY butchered the original. They pretty much just took the plot stem and completey destroyed the funny comedy the formula had first created. Many things were changed, including every single funny moment from the original, the best character-the best friend-was removed, the clever twists from the original were removed, and characters were so over the top to the point they were unbelievable, and I mean REALLY unbelievable. They might as well just have thrown Santa and the Yeti in there. This movie was garbage, I couldn't even sit through the whole thing, and it is the biggest disappointment I've ever seen in a movie.

2. The Dark Backward (1991)

R | 101 min | Comedy

48 Metascore

Garbage man Marty tries his hand at standup comedy and fails miserably until he adds the third arm to his act that mysteriously grew out of his back.

Director: Adam Rifkin | Stars: Judd Nelson, Bill Paxton, Wayne Newton, Lara Flynn Boyle

Votes: 4,031

.......I wish I could erase this movie from my memory. I literally could not sleep after watching it. Why, Mr. Nelson, why?

3. Son of the Mask (2005)

PG | 94 min | Comedy, Family, Fantasy

20 Metascore

Tim Avery, an aspiring cartoonist, finds himself in a predicament when his dog stumbles upon the mask of Loki. Then after conceiving an infant son "born of the mask", he discovers just how looney child raising can be.

Director: Lawrence Guterman | Stars: Jamie Kennedy, Traylor Howard, Alan Cumming, Liam Falconer

Votes: 59,325 | Gross: $17.02M

I'm going to be honest, I watched only maybe fifteen minutes of this. I was excited because The mask is a classic. It's funny without being over the top and unbelievable, even with the whole plot being what it is. You know it's a good movie when the plot is something that is completely impossible, but you never question it as you watch. It's got depth, but it isn't too complex to take you out of the point of it: comedy. That's why this was such a disappointment. It's concentrated complexity from the very beginning, and so unbelievable, I could have sworn I was watching power rangers. such a disappointment.

4. Jason X (2001)

R | 92 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

25 Metascore

Jason Voorhees is cryogenically frozen at the beginning of the 21st century, and is discovered in the 25th century and taken to space. He gets thawed, and begins stalking and killing the crew of the spaceship that's transporting him.

Director: James Isaac | Stars: Kane Hodder, Lexa Doig, Jeff Geddis, David Cronenberg

Votes: 61,547 | Gross: $13.12M

This one really doesn't even need an explanation. I expected a slasher and I got...well, I hope I speak for everyone when I say WTF.

5. Scream 3 (2000)

R | 116 min | Horror, Mystery

56 Metascore

While Sidney and her friends visit the Hollywood set of Stab 3, the third film based on the Woodsboro murders, another Ghostface killer rises to terrorize them.

Director: Wes Craven | Stars: David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Liev Schreiber

Votes: 164,102 | Gross: $89.14M

The first scream was great. It was funny, yet a horror movie, and managed to take an approach no other horror movie had taken. The second was okay. I thought the third would be at least as okay as the second, considering how great the first was. Wrong. They just added to the already complex story, threw in more ridiculous plot twists, and made it so completely complex and unbelievable. I mean, really? How many people are going to dress up in the same costume and hunt this girl down?! Nobody thought about going after her without copying the first people who went after her?

6. Jeepers Creepers (2001)

R | 90 min | Horror, Mystery

49 Metascore

A brother and sister driving home through isolated countryside for spring break encounter a flesh-eating creature which is in the midst of its ritualistic eating spree.

Director: Victor Salva | Stars: Gina Philips, Justin Long, Jonathan Breck, Patricia Belcher

Votes: 142,603 | Gross: $37.90M

I know a lot of people like this movie, and are probably going to be mad at what I have to say (if anyone is even reading all of this lol), but I hated this movie. I love horror movies, and I'm pretty fond of Justin Long, but this movie wasn't just a disappointment, it was one of the worst movies I'd ever seen. It starts somewhat promising, both characters are likable, there's suspense when they are almost run off the road, and you think it's going to have some deranged serial killer (or at least I did, I hadn't seen trailers). Then, after passing the killer's house, seeing him throw a body down a hole and almost being run off the road and killed a second time, for reasons beyond me, Long's character is determined to go back to the house to make sure nobody else is back there. Brilliant, gallant plan. Unfortunately, it isn't executed that well, and nobody would be stupid enough to put themselves in danger with someone who's already almost killed them TWICE for a poorly executed plan. From the moment he suggests it, I wanted to shout at the tv "are you stupid?!". It's not just that the owner is already set out to kill them, but how exactly did he plan on helping whoever was back there without any weapons, any idea how deep the hole was, any rope, or any idea where the killer was going or when he would be back? And without any weapons! That doesn't seem like a plan to save someone, it seems like a plan to raise the body count. I was instantly taken out of the movie from that moment, because the characters seemed too stupid to have made it through natural selection. It got worse. The killer was actually some hell monster with a super complex plot. Horror movies are typically better and scarier with a simple plot. If you're too busy trying to make sense of things, you're not going to be in the moment, and you're not going to be as scared. Not only that, but mysterious and simple are just naturally creepy. This was so complex I was taken out of it again, after already being taken out of it by how stupid the characters were.

7. I Know Who Killed Me (2007)

R | 105 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

16 Metascore

A young woman who was missing reappears, but she claims to be someone else entirely.

Director: Chris Sivertson | Stars: Lindsay Lohan, Julia Ormond, Neal McDonough, Bonnie Aarons

Votes: 30,889 | Gross: $7.50M

The only reason I had any expectations for this was because my sisters kept going on about how great it was. It wasn't. If you've seen it, I shouldn't have to explain why it disappointed me, which is saying a lot for this movie, because expectations were not set too high. If you haven't seen it, don't.

8. Bully (2001)

R | 108 min | Biography, Crime, Drama

45 Metascore

A pack of naïve teenagers conspire to murder a mutual friend, whose aggressive demeanour has proven too much.

Director: Larry Clark | Stars: Brad Renfro, Nick Stahl, Bijou Phillips, Rachel Miner

Votes: 40,527 | Gross: $1.54M

I thought this was a movie about a bully who was so out of control, he needed to be stopped. Instead, it's about a whole group of *beep* kids, not one morally better than the other fernicating through 80% of the movie. Seriously, if you want to watch a porn movie without actually watching porn, watch Bully. As for the bully, he's an *beep* but unlike the other characters, who are just *beep* because they're doped up sex crazed *beep* he's an *beep* with obvious psychological problems. I'm not saying he's not that bad a guy, but when the other other characters consist of-the quiet weird one who ends up knocked up because during her lifelong fernication period, she never thinks to wrap it, her loser boyfriend with no ambitions at all, who knocks her up because he never thought to wrap it, then attacks her when he finds out she's pregnant, the blatant skank who literally sleeps with the bully the first night she meets him, and has a kid she doesn't take care of, the chick who's so doped up on acid there's no hope of ever bringing her back, and the guy who's so doped on acid, there's no hope of ever bringing him back-you really don't expect anything else from him. So, the knocked up chick decides to kill him for the sake of her boyfriend (she's going to make a wonderful mother) and that's what they all do. I would comment that it's totally unbelievable that they would choose to kill him, instead of just removing him from their lives or even filing a report for the rape he commited, but the saddest thing is that this is based off a true story. They should have just called this movie *beep* instead of "Bully". The only reason I sat through the whole thing, was because A. I was waiting for the actual murder to happen, since that's the whole plot, and B. Michael Pitt is just interesting to watch, even if his character is so drugged up he's barely even human.

9. Little Man (III) (2006)

PG-13 | 98 min | Comedy, Crime

26 Metascore

A wannabe-dad mistakes a vertically-challenged criminal on the lam for his newly-adopted son.

Director: Keenen Ivory Wayans | Stars: Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Kerry Washington, John Witherspoon

Votes: 59,865 | Gross: $58.65M

Disappointing because White Chicks was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and this movie tried way too hard to be just as funny, and as a result, it wasn't funny. All of the jokes are either cliche and have been done a million times before, or so ridiculous they're just unbelievable, which takes you out of the film. Not to mention, has anyone ever seen any midgets (or whatever they're called now) that actually look like infants? Because they don't. Ever.

10. All About Steve (2009)

PG-13 | 99 min | Comedy, Family, Romance

17 Metascore

Convinced that a CCN cameraman is her true love, an eccentric crossword puzzler trails him as he travels all over the country, hoping to convince him that they belong together.

Director: Phil Traill | Stars: Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, Thomas Haden Church, Ken Jeong

Votes: 44,443 | Gross: $33.86M

Sandra Bullock is a very talented actress who I enjoy watching, and Bradley Cooper is just downright hot, so I figured this movie would be good. Wrong. Bullock's character is supposed to be somewhat unstable, but, big surprise, they went too over the top with it to the point it wasn't believable, and if something isn't believable, it's not fun to watch (I realize movies are supposed to be able to go past reality, but what I'm talking about is when characters are unbelievable even in their own setting in the movie. Example, lion king wasn't realistic, but it wasn't an unbelievable and over the top script). She does, says, and believes things that no real person ever would. It's like watching a weird dream, and if I'm watching a movie, I want something clever that makes sense and actually has thought into it, not characters who are ridiculously over the top in an effort to take the lazy route into being funny, and instead of being witty, just have her do things that seem funny because it's not what we're used to seeing. Why aren't we used to seeing them? because nobody acts that way, so you have a main character you are unable to relate to, and "jokes" that patronize the viewer with over the top garbage instead of a true, witty, well thought out script. It was not naturally funny, it was forced "funny". Also, the character was not a good fit for Bullock. I know type cast is bad, but she really does excel with sophisticated, witty, sarcastic, tough, take no bull characters. This is like a 180, and it did not suit her at all.

11. Bee Movie (2007)

PG | 91 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

54 Metascore

Barry B. Benson, a bee just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry's life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans actually eat honey and subsequently decides to sue them.

Directors: Simon J. Smith, Steve Hickner | Stars: Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, Patrick Warburton

Votes: 179,870 | Gross: $126.63M

I watch kid movies with my nephews, and while I don't really prefer kid movies, some of them at least make it to my favorites list, and the ones that don't usually make me laugh a few times at the very least. This movie did not. It was painful to have to sit through, and I can't even pinpoint exactly what about it made it a disappointment. It was just bad.

12. The Lion King 1½ (2004 Video)

G | 77 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog retell the story of The Lion King (1994) from their own perspective.

Director: Bradley Raymond | Stars: Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Julie Kavner, Jerry Stiller

Votes: 45,993

The Lion king was the only kids movie I would watch as a kid, and is still a favorite of mine. The second wasn't that bad either, so I figured the third in the trilogy would be just as good. It wasn't. First, why is it even called 1 1/2? That implies that it takes place somewhere between the first and the second movie, but it doesn't. It takes place during solely the first, it just makes Simba more of a minor character, and Pumba and Timon the main characters. Also, the reason the first two are so good, is because they have their good natured laughs, but the stories also have some sort of philosophy and moral lessons. This was just a giant attempt to be funny and make money off the fame of the previous two, and it made everything I thought I knew about the first Lion King feel like a lie. Big disappointment.

13. Good Luck Chuck (2007)

R | 96 min | Comedy, Romance

19 Metascore

In order to keep the woman of his dreams from falling for another guy, Charlie Logan has to break the curse that has made him wildly popular with single women: Sleep with Charlie once, and the next man you meet will be your true love.

Director: Mark Helfrich | Stars: Dane Cook, Jessica Alba, Dan Fogler, Connor Price

Votes: 94,496 | Gross: $35.02M

I know a lot of people suspect that Dane Cook steals his work, but he's always managed to make me laugh when he was on stage, and that's all that ever mattered to me. When this movie came out, he was one of my favorite comedians (probably because he was younger and more relateable than other great comedians like Ron White). Because it was Dane Cook, I expected to be laughing the whole movie. I did not laugh once. I don't know what was worse, the montage of soft porn, or the love interests unbelievable and ridiculous obsession with penguins. No, the worst is probably that this is a comedy, with an actual comedian actor, and not a single line was funny.

14. Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous (2005)

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Comedy, Crime

34 Metascore

Gracie Hart abandons the life of a field agent to become the public face of the FBI. Yet, when Cheryl Frasier and Stan Fields are kidnapped, she is determined to rescue them, along with her reluctant partner.

Director: John Pasquin | Stars: Sandra Bullock, Regina King, William Shatner, Enrique Murciano

Votes: 80,303 | Gross: $48.48M

Miss Congeniality was funny. It had witty dialog that made me laugh, and an interesting story. I figured the second one would be just as good. Wrong. The first worked so hard to develop Bullock's character into a better person, overcoming her insecurities and learning to be more feminine, while still being who she was, and getting the guy she liked. The second undid everything the first did. It turned her from a stronger, better her, into a her that was worse than the her in the first movie! Not to mention, completely unbelievable. We're honestly supposed to think that this is how she turned out? And her love interest? The one the first movie spent so long getting her together with? Oh yeah, they broke up just like that, before the movie even started. Don't forget how over the top this movie was. What a disappointment.

15. Click (2006)

PG-13 | 107 min | Comedy, Drama, Fantasy

45 Metascore

A workaholic architect finds a universal remote that allows him to fast-forward and rewind to different parts of his life. Complications arise when the remote starts to overrule his choices.

Director: Frank Coraci | Stars: Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Walken, David Hasselhoff

Votes: 356,866 | Gross: $137.36M

It was Adam Sandler, so I figured it would be hysterical. It wasn't. One part in the whole movie that made me laugh. The rest was just basically watching as Sandler's character ruin his whole life in every way imaginable, without actually being there to do it. It was also too over the top.

16. Jennifer's Body (2009)

R | 102 min | Comedy, Horror

47 Metascore

A newly-possessed high-school cheerleader turns into a succubus who specializes in killing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?

Director: Karyn Kusama | Stars: Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody, Johnny Simmons

Votes: 151,338 | Gross: $16.20M

I honestly don't know why I had any expectations for this movie. I guess I figured that since it casted Megan Fox, who I think has given every straight man in america a wet dream, it had to be good. I mean, to have the pay required to get someone like Megan Fox to agree to do it, why wouldn't it be? Well...I guess you can't judge a movie by the popularity of the celebrity. This whole thing was horrible. It was like an unfunny spoof of horror movies, and the ending was the worst.

17. Halloween (2007)

R | 109 min | Horror

47 Metascore

After being committed for 15 years, Michael Myers, now a grown man and still very dangerous, escapes from the mental institution and immediately returns to Haddonfield to find his baby sister, Laurie.

Director: Rob Zombie | Stars: Scout Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell, Tyler Mane, Brad Dourif

Votes: 130,604 | Gross: $58.27M

The original Halloween is one of my favorite movies. It's simple; it's just an emotionless man going around killing people because he can and even though they don't explain it in the first original halloween, they make it make sense. Michael myers isn't "human" as lumis explains, he isn't capable of emotions like humans, so you don't stop and say "wait, why is he doing all this?" you just buy into it. Kind of hard to mess up, and it manages to be creepy without showing any of the actual killing. I imagined the remake would be the same, just with better filming technology. Wrong. It takes away the simple, classic story, and makes Michael some ugly trailer trash child who kills his step dad or something to protect his mom, then acts like a freak once he gets taken to the asylum, and grows up to be some huge ass freak. Come on, it's ridiculous. This isn't even halloween, it's a whole different story with the same movie title and same character name. And making Michael a giant? Over the top and unnecessary.

18. Cabin by the Lake (2000 TV Movie)

R | 91 min | Horror, Thriller

A screenwriter, who lives in a cabin by the lake near Los Angeles, drowns young women, then goes back to visit their bodies and do their laundry.

Director: Po-Chih Leong | Stars: Judd Nelson, Hedy Burress, Michael Weatherly, Susan Gibney

Votes: 2,499

Judd Nelson, being one of my favorite actors and someone who I find so interesting to watch because he really brings his performances to life and makes all his characters completely different people to me, no matter how many things one might have in common with another, was the main reason I had my hopes up for this movie. I know some aren't a fan of his work, but I really am. The good thing about this movie, Judd Nelson held up to my expectations for the most part, and even managed making me laugh. The bad thing about this movie? Everything besides Mr. Nelson sucked. It's funny that this movie put so much importance on the characters and the plot of a screen play, since this movie lacked in both. None of the characters had any depth. Nelson's character had potential, but too many things were left unexplained. Probably because he is supposed to be mysterious, but if he's the main character, I would like to have at least a little insight into his thoughts, or at least know why he's doing what he's doing. The female lead? A total Mary sue.

19. Return to Cabin by the Lake (2001 TV Movie)

R | 89 min | Comedy, Horror, Thriller

Murderous screenwriter Stanley Caldwell, who incidentally is thought to be dead, returns to the scenes of his crimes.

Director: Po-Chih Leong | Stars: Judd Nelson, Brian Krause, Dahlia Salem, Claudette Mink

Votes: 1,179

After the first "Cabin by the Lake", I did not have high expectations of this movie. I only watched it to see if things had improved since the first one. In the beginning of the film, they actually seemed as though they might, and here's where I got set up for disappointment, for a film I had previously prepared to be disappointed with. In the beginning, it made me laugh a bit more. I was finally getting insight into Nelson's character, he was acting more like a human being, and it seemed he might even get a love interest, which would have been interesting to watch. I especially found it amusing how he tried to defend that he wasn't gay. However, things quickly took a sharp turn down disappointment road, as all of the character depth quickly vanished, we were left with another mary sue (without explanation as to what happened to our first little mary sue, or why someone who had tried killing her TWICE had just suddenly given up to...make a movie. About killing her), and yet another cliche ending where we have a villain who just won't die. At least in the first film, you don't watch him die. You can assume he was able to hold his breath for a longer time than expected, with always being in the water, but here? I mean, come on! Are we to believe an ordinary human with unexplained psychological damage over turmoil with producers was able to make it out alive through all that? Without an explanation as to how? That stuff works with supernatural characters like Michael, Jason, and Freddy, but not ordinary humans. If it did, the first killers from Scream would still be alive, and our protagonist wouldn't have a new person in the same costume chasing her in every movie. Disappointment.

20. Not Another Teen Movie (2001)

R | 89 min | Comedy

32 Metascore

A sendup of all the teen movies that have accumulated in the past two decades.

Director: Joel Gallen | Stars: Chyler Leigh, Jaime Pressly, Chris Evans, Eric Christian Olsen

Votes: 115,947 | Gross: $38.25M

This was disappointing in a way different from the others. It wasn't disappointing because, before viewing it, I had high hopes from advertisements and what I'd heard, or the actors or plot, but because it was one of my favorite movies back when it first came out. Re-watching it nine years later...well, it just wasn't as funny. Again, it was too over the top, and I understand it's a satire (how could one miss that...) but it could have made fun of teen movies while still having a somewhat, even teh tiniest bit, believable script with characters that you could actually like. Not to mention, the exaggerations were so big, it was like watching an infomercial. It was funny when I was younger because, well, I was young and easily amused, not so funny now that I need witty, well thought out scripts to make me laugh. It was weird doing a 180 with my opinion of this movie, and disappointing.

21. Bridesmaids (I) (2011)

R | 125 min | Comedy

75 Metascore

Competition between the maid of honor and a bridesmaid, over who is the bride's best friend, threatens to upend the life of an out-of-work pastry chef.

Director: Paul Feig | Stars: Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Terry Crews

Votes: 309,288 | Gross: $169.11M

I heard this was supposed to be the girl version of the Hang Over. Can you imagine how excited I was? And then how quickly I was disappointed? I mean, I know a lot of people think this movie is funny, but I just really didn't. A few parts were, not enough to stop me from being disappointed. The characters, to me, seemed unlikable and kind of annoying (all of them) and were poorly developed, they literally reminded me of the characters a 13 year old just starting writing would create. Potential, but flat and at times-get ready for a surprise-over the top. and, another big surprise i'm sure, it pushed to hard to be funny.

22. Grown Ups (I) (2010)

PG-13 | 102 min | Comedy

30 Metascore

After their high school basketball coach passes away, five good friends and former teammates reunite for a Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Director: Dennis Dugan | Stars: Adam Sandler, Salma Hayek, Kevin James, Chris Rock

Votes: 276,599 | Gross: $162.00M

I don't know whether it's because Sandler is getting older and just isn't funny anymore, or is getting older and as a result, getting casted some really *beep* roles. Either way, I get disappointed when I watch some of his new material (mostly all family films), expecting his old stuff like "Big Daddy", and getting, once again, over the top, not so funny, rather boring to watch (when they're not being unbelievable) movies. I don't even really watch his new stuff anymore, but I didn't think this one would be the same with other actors like Rob Schneider, Chris rock, David Spade, and Kevin James. To my surprise, it didn't matter how many funny people were involved in the movie, it was still just as over the top and tried way too hard to be funny instead of just naturally being funny, and it disappointed me.

23. The Ring Two (2005)

PG-13 | 110 min | Horror, Mystery

44 Metascore

6 months after the incidents involving the lethal videotape, new clues prove that there is a new evil lurking in the darkness.

Director: Hideo Nakata | Stars: Naomi Watts, David Dorfman, Sissy Spacek, Simon Baker

Votes: 101,002 | Gross: $76.23M

The first one was scary because it was a psychotic little girl with a horrifying face that came out of your tv and killed you. You could not fight her or stop her. It was creepy because she was a little girl, lacking innocence and emotions. I was actually creeped out, and that doesn't happen with horror movies. The second one is about the same little girl, who just wants a mommy. Somehow...not so creepy. And a little weird, considering the person she wants to be her mommy has done nothing but try to stop/destroy her since the first movie, considering the fact the ghost kid keeps killing off all her friends and loved ones...

24. The Hangover Part II (2011)

R | 102 min | Comedy

44 Metascore

Two years after the bachelor party in Las Vegas, Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug jet to Thailand for Stu's wedding. Stu's plan for a subdued pre-wedding brunch, however, goes seriously awry.

Director: Todd Phillips | Stars: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha

Votes: 534,847 | Gross: $254.46M

Hey, wanna watch the Hangover, only with (very) slightly different scenes, but basically the same plot formula? Just watch the sequel! I think most of us can agree that the Hangover was an instant masterpiece, but the sequel is basically the same story sold to us a second time around. It's like the Thai version of the first. You would think, at least, with copying, pasting, and editing the first, the second would be at least a better version, but the first really is funnier. The first was an instant masterpiece, the second was an instant disappointment.

25. Horrible Bosses (2011)

R | 98 min | Comedy, Crime

57 Metascore

Three friends conspire to murder their awful bosses when they realize they are standing in the way of their happiness.

Director: Seth Gordon | Stars: Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Steve Wiebe

Votes: 469,773 | Gross: $117.54M

I was really excited about this because I loved Colin Farrell in Phone Booth (he made what would have been a dull movie actually very interesting to watch), and Charlie Day...well, there are simply no words to describe him. He's amazing. He's one of those guys who can say "pudding" and make you laugh. I also am fond of Jennifer Aniston. However, this movie was a let down. The jokes weren't over the top, but they just seemed kind of watered down. All of the Charlie Day parts were hysterical, probably just because of the actor, and it was interesting to see Aniston in this role, but no other part was very good or memorable, and it didn't have me laughing every minute like I expected.

26. One Missed Call (2008)

PG-13 | 87 min | Horror, Mystery

24 Metascore

Several people start receiving voice-mails from their future selves - messages which include the date, time, and some of the details of their deaths.

Director: Eric Valette | Stars: Edward Burns, Shannyn Sossamon, Ana Claudia Talancón, Ray Wise

Votes: 34,016 | Gross: $26.88M

This movie was actually what I expected and pretty good, until the very end. They had just finished making everything make sense, and then they go and make it not make sense again, and completely ruin the whole movie with what was supposed to be a twist. Twists, while unexpected, have to at least make sense, not totally contradict everything learned in the movie.

27. Hostel: Part II (2007)

I actually liked this movie, and it was what I expected. It was like the first, minus all the sex that took up the first half of Hostel. What disappointed me, and even managed ruining the whole movie for me, was that they killed the only survivor from the first Hostel in the first ten minutes of the sequel. I hate when they do that, it's a huge pet peeve. Why the hell did I sit through the first one, cheering this guy on, watching an hour plus of his story and escape (and sex), when they just kill him off like he's nothing in the second one, and as a first little kill nonetheless! It's like cheering your favorite sports team on, they make it to the finals, and then don't play in the finals because they get disqualified the day after winning their last seasonal game. This movie was a disappointment, because it was completely ruined by the beginning, which completely ruined the first.

After being banished from their tribe, two hunter-gatherers encounter Biblical characters and eventually wind up in the city of Sodom.

Not everything on this list was particularly bad, just a disappointment. This is one of them. I had high expectations, considering the actors, and it was very funny, but not as funny as I expected, and instead of going all through history until present like I thought they would, they only made it to the Greeks. It would have been more interesting if screenwrites had found a way to take the character through every era, instead of just the first few. The characters wouldn't have lived long enough to even have made it as far as they did, in realistic terms, so I'm sure if the writers tried hard enough they could have managed a believable way to take them to the present, and that would have been interesting (though, considering that this is modern day america, they probably would have managed making it too over the top and unbelievable in the process).

This movie had moments that made me laugh, which is why it's further down on the disappointment ladder. However, I spent a majority of the movie disengaged. First, the whole point of the movie is to dig up this "Dom", and you spend mostly the whole movie just trying to figure out who the hell Dom is. Then, the main character keeps thinking about this girl he once loved, only his memories of her are like some trippy acid experience, so you don't know whether it's a memory or a fantasy or what. It's explained at the end, but by that point, you've already spent the whole movie trying to figure out who she is and why he lost her. Judd Nelson's character was also a disappointment. He barely had any funny lines, and in the first half of the movie, seemed like just a normal guy, but quickly becomes kind of irritating (probably more so irritating if it wasn't for the fact that Judd Nelson was casted, and he's just interesting to watch), and it is then explained that all he ever does is whine, which you wouldn't get from the first part. Or, at least, I didn't. It was like they made him the normal college student, then decided he was too normal, and turned him into a whining wimp halfway through filming. This is also the only character he's ever been casted as who was a giant irritating pansy, a role that doesn't really suite Nelson with his naturally daring features and voice. When Dom is finally explained, after you've spent the whole movie disengaged because you were either trying to figure the Dom thing out or figure the girl thing out to actually pay attention, it turns out, Dom was just a bottle of alcohol. They went on some crazy trip and put all the importance in the world in digging up...a bottle of alcohol. Then, instead of at least drinking the bottle dry to make it worth the trouble, they each take one swig...and throw it over a canyon. This is the part where I had to pause the movie and ask myself why I had just sat through it in the first place, since the whole plot was centered around a sip of damn alcohol. I mean, sure they all gained life experience and learned something about themselves through their travels, but that didn't make it seem any less stupid to go through all the trouble they went through for a sip of alcohol. In addition, some scenes were long to the point that they were boring. This movie was naturally funny at times though, and wasn't too over the top, but it was still somewhat of a disappointment to me.
