These are the must see episodes of Xena My Choices: SEASON 1: yes, the pilot, Sins of the Past must be seen as it is where Gabrielle and Xena meet; Hooves and Harlots introduces us to the Amazons; Callisto; and Is There a Doctor in the House? (best one of season 1) SEASON 2: Orphan of War; Girls Just Want to Have Fun; Return of Callisto; Intimate Stranger; The Xena Scrolls (just for fun - it's an alt universe/past/future lives thing);Destiny; The Quest; A Day in the Life; SEASON 3: The Furies; Been There Done That; The Deliverer; Gabrielle's Hope;-(IMPORTANT TO STORYLINE, difficult to watch); The Debt (both parts); Maternal Instincts; Bitter Suite; One against an Army; Sacrifice (2 parts); SEASON 4: Adventures in the Sin Trade (2parts); A Family Affair; In Sickness and in Health; A Good Day; Crusader; Past Imperfect; Devi; Between the Lines; The Way; The Convert; Endgame; Ides of March; SEASON 5 Fallen Angel; Chakram; Succession; Lyre, Lyre Hearts on Fire; Amphipolis Under Seige; Looking Death in the Eye; Livia; Eve; Motherhood; SEASON 6: Heart of Darkness; Who's Ghurkahn?; Legacy; the Abyss (not for the story but for the relationship w/Gabby and Xena); The Rheingold Trilogy - (the rheingold, the ring, and the return of the Valkyrie); Old Ares Had a Farm (stupid but fun); The God You Know; When Fates Collide (Written beautifully by Katherine Fugate); Many Happy Returns; and A Friend in Need (2 parts). That is my list of must see Xena. Not all of them are gold, but they help you understand the long-term storyline, the subtext, are stunning and heartbreaking, or funny and necessary... My 2 cents.

The most beautiful and poignant episode of all of them. I truly wish this had been the last rather than the ending we were given. But, alas, my heart got broken later again with the last two episodes. I would love it if Katherine Fugate was signed on for the revival of Xena. She and several other writers just GOT the relationship with Xena and Gabrielle. Writers make it best or worst, and Katherine made this episode, unmistakably, the very best.
