63 Metascore

A young man can't accept the girl he likes because of her bitter past.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Harvey Keitel, Zina Bethune, Anne Collette, Lennard Kuras

Votes: 10,123

Scorsese's debut (and Harvey Keitel's too) doesn't really have much of a story, but when its viewed now it really shows the directors roots and well. B+

2. Mean Streets (1973)

In New York City's Little Italy, a devoutly Catholic mobster must reconcile his desire for power, his feelings for his epileptic lover, and his devotion to his troublesome friend.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, David Proval, Amy Robinson

Votes: 119,709 | Gross: $3.13M

Still not much of a story here, but it's special for Robert DeNiro's performance and because it kicked off the film partnership between them. A-

78 Metascore

A recently widowed woman is on the road with her precocious young son, determined to make a new life for herself as a singer.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson, Mia Bendixsen, Alfred Lutter III

Votes: 27,483 | Gross: $18.60M

I think this is far from a great movie, but it is certainly memorable due to Burstyn's performance. B+

4. Taxi Driver (1976)

94 Metascore

A mentally unstable veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver in New York City, where the perceived decadence and sleaze fuels his urge for violent action.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Albert Brooks

Votes: 921,191 | Gross: $28.26M

This was the one that grabbed our attention and deserved it. Though he recieved no credit for it, this was nominated for a few deserved awards and is really one of the most wild and original films ever to be delivered to a cinema. A+

5. Raging Bull (1980)

90 Metascore

The life of boxer Jake LaMotta, whose violence and temper that led him to the top in the ring destroyed his life outside of it.

Votes: 380,386 | Gross: $23.38M

Robert Deniro's best work by far, and, if I may say so myself, better than Taxi Driver. A+

73 Metascore

A passionate yet unsuccessful comedian stalks and kidnaps his idol to take the spotlight for himself.

An ordinary word processor has the worst night of his life after he agrees to visit a girl in Soho he met that evening at a coffee shop.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Verna Bloom, Tommy Chong

Votes: 81,467 | Gross: $10.60M

What I love about Scorsese is how he is always experimenting with genres, and After Hours is the perfect example. It's a comedy, and yet it's quite mysterious and thrilling. This is one of those that nobody thinks of, and it's a pity. I had a blast with this one. A-

8. The Color of Money (1986)

Fast Eddie Felson teaches a cocky but immensely talented protégé the ropes of pool hustling, which in turn inspires him to make an unlikely comeback.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Paul Newman, Tom Cruise, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Helen Shaver

Votes: 93,310 | Gross: $52.29M

The worst of the bunch. Paul Newman finally won a long overdue Oscar here. But I thought the movie was a bit dull, and Tom Cruise's performance (and I can't believe I'm saying this) is way too over-the-top. C+

9. The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)

The life of Jesus Christ, his journey through life as he faces the struggles all humans do, and his final temptation on the cross.

Votes: 63,170 | Gross: $7.63M

What was all the fuss about? Some moments left me questioning but really I thought that this was an excellent film which pretty much stayed true to the bible stories. Despite the last scene. A

The story of Henry Hill and his life in the mafia, covering his relationship with his wife Karen and his mob partners Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco

Votes: 1,257,958 | Gross: $46.84M

How in the hell did he not win an Oscar for this? Easily one of his best and more than worthy of best picture, director, and screenplay. The only person who went home happy was Joe Pesci, and he deserved it too. This is one of the best mob movies. A+

11. Cape Fear (1991)

A perfect movie, but flawed still. At the end of the day, the story, cast, and everything about it are overshadowed by Daniel Day Lewis's extraordinary performance. A+

Votes: 384,186 | Gross: $102.61M

A way too long but fascinating biopic on Howard Hughes that lets DiCaprio spread his wings and fly. And perfectly I might add. A

This is quite a bold statement, but I think that this is Scorsese's masterpiece. He finally won his long overdue Oscar for this film, and once you see it, you'll know why. A+

Hugo is another example of Scorsese trying different genres. This is one of his best movies. Gorgeous, lovely, and flat out fascinating, this is the first movie in which Scorsese gets to make a movie about what he loves: Movies. A+

20. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
