While the 2018 Emmy Awards did a good job of spreading the wealth this year, there were still multiple nominees who walked away with a handful of trophies. Mega-producer Ryan Murphy won Best Limited Series for “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” as well as Best Directing after four consecutive losses for other programs. But Amy Sherman-Palladino was the biggest winner of the live ceremony, taking home not one, not two, but three Emmys for producing, directing and writing “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” This is on top of her win at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend for Best Music Supervision. Despite launching multiple critically acclaimed series over the years, these are Sherman-Palladino’s first Emmy wins.

Holiday episodes are rarely a show’s best, but they’re often the most enduring. CBS still airs a colorized version of the “I Love Lucy” Christmas episode, repackaged as a perennial special, 60 years later. The image of The Fonz eating out of a can, alone on Christmas Eve, is probably one of the best-remembered scenes from “Happy Days.” And “The West Wing’s” 1999 episode “In Excelsis Deo” not only won an Emmy, but its takes on homeless veterans and hate crimes are just as relevant today, nearly two decades later. And of course, it was a Christmas episode that launched the longest-running scripted series in primetime, “The Simpsons,” all the way back in 1989.
As the networks more wholeheartedly embrace the holidays as a marketing tool, there has been an explosion in Christmas-themed movies and specials in recent years. But there’s still something special about celebrating the holidays with...

Just weeks after launching its equity crowdfunding campaign, the folklore-tinged horror anthology feature “The Field Guide to Evil” has been officially given the green light. Producers Christos V. Konstantakopoulos (“Before Midnight,” “The Lobster”), Keith and Jess Calder (“Anomalisa,” “Blair Witch,” “You’re Next”) and Legion M, billed as the first ever fan-owned media company, have all invested and come onboard as Executive Producers for the film.
The anthology is “a global exploration into dark folklore, and will feature eight terrifying tales from the world’s most exciting new voices in international filmmaking.” The film is currently engaged in its first-of-its-kind equity crowd-funding campaign on First Democracy Vc, a funding portal brought through a partnership between Indiegogo and MicroVentures. Thanks to the campaign, investors and film fans across the world have the opportunity to become equity partners in this unique horror production.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday morning. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In the wake of the election, Filmmaker Magazine published a piece about the intrinsically political nature of movies, in which the writer argued: “For the next four years (and long afterwards), every time someone leaves a movie theater feeling contented, feeling set in their values, feeling numbed and entertained and nothing else, that’s a problem.”
How does filmmaking — and film criticism — need to adapt in the age of Trump?
Richard Brody (@tnyfrontrow), The New Yorker
Filmmakers need to make films and film critics need to write about them. None of them need instruction; the hardest thing in good and bad times...

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

It just wouldn't be San Diego Comic-Con without a visit from the stars and creators behind some of Adult Swim's greatest shows! We're talking Robot Chicken, Metalocalypse, Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1 (formerly Aqua Teen Hunger Force), The Venture Bros. and Squidbillies!
We already know that Childrens Hospital will host its own panel, Robot Chicken, and The Venture Bros. as well, so where does that leave Adult Swim's other big names? Last year Adult Swim hosted a joint panel featuring Robot Chicken's Seth Green Tom Root and Matthew Seinreich, Metalocalypse's Brendon Small, and The Venture Bros.' In addition to all the big name panels, Adult Swim will hold its general panel on Friday, July 22nd at 12:45pm - 1:15pm in the Indigo Ballroom of the Hilton Bayfront. The panel will...

Adult Swim is looking to clone the success of its highest-rated show, "Robot Chicken," with "Titan Maximum," a new comedy series from the creative team behind "Robot" that shares DNA with its predecessor: It too is a stop-motion animation series about robots.
"Titan," which will launch in September with an initial order of nine episodes, was created by "Robot" co-head writer/producer Tom Root and co-creator/exec producer Matthew Senreich.
"Robot" co-creator/exec producer Seth Green will voice the show's villain and exec produce with Root and Senreich.
The voice cast of the series also includes "Robot" players Breckin Meyer as Titan Maximum, Rachael Leigh Cook, Dan Milano and Eden Espinosa.
"Titan" is set 100 years in the future, when Saturn's moon Titan is defended by an elite squadron of young, brash pilots whose spaceships combine to form the giant robot Titan Maximum. Because of budget cuts, the team has been...

By Casey Seijas One would assume that, when looking for inspiration, the writers of the Emmy Award winning Robot Chicken would look at toy commercials from the ‘80s on YouTube or old Sears “Wish Books,” but apparently, it all comes down to competition. A donut eating competition, that is. Playing to a standing room only capacity crowd on Saturday afternoon at the New York Comic Con, the writing staff of [adult swim]’s madcap stop-animated show, Robot Chicken, kicked off their panel to a raucous crowd with a quick look behind the scenes at what goes into a given episode, which involved a bet between writer Kevin Shinick and the rest of the staff that he could finish off a dozen donuts in under 30 minutes. Given the fact that he managed to succeed, it’s clear that a most likely near-fatal sugar rush probably produced what fans have come to expect from the show.
