In 2018, Bill Murray joined famous cellist, Jan Vogler, on stage at the historic Acropolis in Athens, Greece, for a night of timeless poetry and music. Captured on film by director Andrew Muscato, the magical performance will soon become a feature film, premiering in July at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
Spanning from Bach to Van Morrison, Walt Whitman to “West Side Story,” “New Worlds: The Cradle of Civilization” showcases the range of art that has influenced American and European culture and helped bridge the gap between the two.
The trailer opens with Murray reading Whitman’s poem “Song of the Open Road, 9” before launching into “I Feel Pretty” from “West Side Story,” all behind a sweeping classical music trio led by world-renowned cellist Vogler and featuring Mira Wang on violin and Vanessa Perez on piano.
“New Worlds: The Cradle of Civilization” captures the final performance of Murray and Vogler’s European “New Worlds” tour.

The thought is almost too wild to entertain, but there exists a parallel universe in which Rachel got written off — or worse, recast — in “Friends.” The New York-set sitcom that defined the 1990s and ran into the early aughts, created by Marta Kaufman and David Crane, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its pilot episode this September. To mark the occasion, culture historian Saul Austerlitz has written a book, “Generation Friends,” detailing the history of the show, from inception to grand finale. Advance excerpts of the book obtained by EW reveal the potential casting snafu.
Apparently Aniston had already shot a few episodes of an unaired CBS sitcom titled “Muddling Through” when she was cast in “Friends.” If the series had been picked up, Aniston would have had to leave “Friends” halfway through the first season.
Here’s the relevant excerpt:

Karen “Duff” Duffy is the first to admit she wasn’t exactly qualified for the job as one of MTV’s first VJs. The New York City native, who’s written a new book, Backbone, about living with chronic pain, got her start calling Bingo at a nursing home.
“In my late 20s I experienced something of an overnight metamorphosis,” Duffy, now 56, tells People exclusively in this week’s issue. “I went from being a recreational therapist at a nursing home in Greenwich Village — where my job was to host the Frank Sinatra Appreciation Society, organize art classes and call...

On Thursday night, model and actress Karen Duffy celebrated the publication of her second book, Backbone: Living with Chronic Pain without Turning into One, with a roomful of celebrities and famous authors — and a tequila fountain from long-time friend George Clooney.
“I was with George the last night I was healthy and, literally, this illness hit me like a bus,” the 55-year-old said in an exclusive interview with People.
She discussed writing about her life of chronic pain (she’s suffered from sarcoidosis for two decades) and the support she’s received from the fellow actor, who makes an appearance in the book.

Coming off one of the busiest weekends in years, the box office is going to quiet down significantly this coming weekend.Hot Tub Time Machine 2, McFarland, USA and The Duff are all opening in at least 2,500 theaters, though it would be surprising if any of these took in over $15 million this weekend. Therefore, the top three spots should once again belong to Fifty Shades of Grey, Kingsman: The Secret Service and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.Coming off a massive $85.2 million debut, Fifty Shades of Grey seems poised to take a dive this weekend. Word-of-mouth is mixed, die-hard book fans likely already made it out last weekend, and romantic movies tend to fall hard coming off Valentine's Day. About Last Night (2014), Endless Love and Valentine's Day all fell at least 70 percent on this same weekend, while the Twilight sequels and The Fault in our Stars had similar second weekend drops.

Rob counts down the top 50 episodes of TV's longest-running animated series, The Simpsons...
Since its debut in 1989, across 552 episodes and 25 seasons, The Simpsons has become one of the most revered and beloved TV programmes of all time. It’s a true cultural phenomenon that’s influenced not just animation, but all areas of TV comedy and sitcom. For so many of us, its quotes and catchphrases have permeated our everyday vernacular, from single words like “crisitunity” and “embiggen” to phrases “you don’t win friends with salad” and “everything’s coming up Milhouse.”
Personal opinions may vary, but for me the show’s peak years were from season 4 through to 10. They’re consistently funny, all killer and no filler runs with barely a dud episode to be found between 1992-1998. Past this point the standard becomes a little more mixed, and recent seasons have been distinctly average at best. The...

It's not the first trip to the celebrity hot spot for the globe-trotting couple, who also visited the area during the holidays last year, along with close friends Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford. He fled the Nazis for a British boarding school – then made a shocking drama about segregation in the deep south. Michael Roemer talks fate, family and sadistic governesses
The first time Michael Roemer set foot in the American south, something pinged in his brain. He had never been there before; he grew up in Germany and Britain, but that day in segregated Alabama in the early 1960s, "I recognised everything. It was immediate. I said, 'Oh, I know this. I know what this feels like.'"
In the last 10 days, I have seen three films by Roemer: two documentaries and Nothing But a Man, his first feature, shot in 1963. The documentaries – Dying, a short piece following three people in the last few months of their lives; and Cortile Cascino, a study of a slum in Palermo, Sicily – are 40 years old and hard to get hold of. Jimmy and I grew up together. We were friends since seventh grade and we went to a small high school in New Jersey. It was impossible not to love this kid. He was voted Best Looking and Class Flirt. Girls loved him because he was beautiful, inside and out. He was a great athlete and we did the plays together. Jimmy was quiet in person but explosive on stage. In my yearbook, he kind of wrote something like, “Duff, I’ll see you on Broadway.”
Fairly quickly out of college, he was working in the city and immediately started getting acting work.

Looking back at 2012 on what films moved and impressed us, it is clear that watching old films is a crucial part of making new films meaningful. Thus, the annual tradition of our end of year poll, which calls upon our writers to pick both a new and an old film: they were challenged to choose a new film they saw in 2012—in theaters or at a festival—and creatively pair it with an old film they also saw in 2012 to create a unique double feature.
All the contributors were asked to write a paragraph explaining their 2012 fantasy double feature. What's more, each writer was given the option to list more pairings, with or without explanation, as further imaginative film programming we'd be lucky to catch in that perfect world we know doesn't exist but can keep dreaming of every time we go to the movies.

With the impending release of Lady Gaga's third album "Born This Way" (you may have heard about it), the 24-year-old singer is also getting her own HBO concert.
The network announced that Gaga's Feb. 21 and 22 shows at New York's Madison Square Garden will be packaged into a special, airing Saturday, May 7.
This may seem like a natural step for the Grammy-winning, 15-million-record-selling singer, but HBO doesn't just hand these things out. Gaga enters an elite fraternity including Madonna, Michael Jackson and Britney Spears.

As a new year is upon us and in looking forward to the oncoming winter season of television I have to say there’s not a lot in the new offerings that I’m looking forward to.
Last year ABC made the decision to cut the show Flash Forward and instead continue on with the equally ratings challenged V. The programming choice was a shock to some, myself included, but I’m sure the network had some sound reasons for making their decision. It was disappointing for me since Flash Forward had actually upped its game in its final episodes with a new focus that made everything really come together. V never really had enough to hold my attention especially when you factor in the three episode premiere followed by a long break from the fall until the spring.
Tuesday marks the return of V and fans of the show...

V never really had enough to hold my attention especially when you factor in the three episode premiere followed by a long break from the fall until the spring.
Tuesday marks the return of V and fans of the show...

HollywoodNews.com: Last night’s screening of the extraordinary documentary about the murder of NFL star Pat Tillman drew some heavyweights including double Oscar winner Jane Fonda, movie star Josh Brolin (he narrates “The Tillman Story”), Kerry Washington, Dick Ebersol, famed cinematographer Ellen Kuras, plus Dan Abrams, Sports Illustrated’s illustrious Terry McDonell, Broadway producer Jean Doumanian, Karen Duffy, Ahmad Rashad, and filmmaker James Toback.
“The Tillman Story,” directed by Amir Bar-Lev, is infuriating and incendiary as it recounts how Tillman, handsome and popular, a a gifted football player, was killed by friendly fire — American soldiers– in Afghanistan. Then the Army and the Bush adminstration covered it all up and lied to the Tillman family over and over again.
The whole saga, still unresolved thanks to an idiotic Congressional hearing, is reminiscent of C.D.B. Bryan’s famous non fiction work, “Friendly Fire,” from the 1970s. History just repeats itself.

George Clooney's American Independence Day celebrations almost ended in tragedy on Sunday, July 4 when a firework exploded metres away from his boat at his Italian retreat on Lake Como.
The Hollywood star was watching the light show from the water with a group of friends, including his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis and actress Uma Thurman. But photos posted on TMZ.com show Clooney and his pals scrambling for safety as one firework explodes close to their vessel, rocking the boat.
As WENN went to press, it was unclear if anyone was injured in the incident.
Clooney is keen on going cruising as a mean for break time. He took both Canalis and his ex girlfriend Karen Duffy to Lake Como late last month.

George Clooney is on a boat - with some good-looking first mates aboard. Clooney, 49, was spotted cruising Tuesday with his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis and his ex Karen Duffy on Lake Como near his Italian villa. And don't worry - it was definitely smooth sailing. Duffy, 49, an actress and long-time friend of the actor's, is not the jealous type. She got married in 1997 and speaks highly of her former flame - and his current girlfriend. "The woman he's with now is incredible - she's funny, smart, has lovely manners," Duffy told People earlier this year. "She's exactly who you'd want one...

It's the first day of May and I have a birthday this month. I know I'm not the oldest Pajiban but I do help skew the demographic toward Ensure and Viagra ads (get on it, D.R., us Golden Panthers have lots and Lots of disposable income, only not me).
Anyhoo, I'll be 53 years old. That's my physical age. But, in my mind, you're only really as old as your cultural age.
Here's how I calculate that: Take a list of celebrity birthdays from any random day and scan down. When you hit a point where you know 2/3 of the people below the line and you've never heard of 2/3 of the people above it, that's right about where your cultural age is.
I like to think I'm pretty hip and with-it and know What's Happening, I'm a pretty groovy guy (you kids and your lingo these days!), but more and...
