Based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr, the first version of The Crow was released in 1994 and told the tragic story of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly Webster. Later this year, we’ll be getting a remake of The Crow, with the story of Eric and Shelly being told all over again. It seems kind of strange to do a remake and revisit characters in a franchise that lends itself to the anthology format, where each film can be focused on a different vengeful, undead person… but it does make business sense, because The Crow remake is getting more attention than the three Crow sequels ever got. But those Crow sequels do have their fans, and Scream Factory is about to celebrate one of them – The Crow: Salvation from 2000 – with a limited edition Blu-ray release on March 26th.

The Tourist Stars Johnny Depp & Angelina Jolie ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia; Facebook )
The Tourist brought together an interesting pair of Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie together. The romantic thriller was released in 2010 and received mixed response from the critics. However, the film earned at least 278 million dollars at the worldwide box office and received three Golden Globe nominations. The Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck directorial is a remake of the 2005 French film, Anthony Zimmer.
In the film, Angelina Jolie plays Elise Clifton-Ward, who helps her lover, Alexander Pearce, escape from the French and Scottish officers. The duo come up with a clever way to trick these officers who are following Elise to find Alexander’s whereabouts. Both Johnny and Angelina look stunning together on screen. But did you know Depp and Jolie weren’t the first choice for the film? Yes, you read it right.

Just prior to the season finale episode, which will be released tonight on AppleTV+, the show Shantaram starring Charlie Hunnam has been axed by the streaming service. Stantaram is based on the lengthy 900-plus page novel by Gregory David Roberts and had a huge production with the ambitious, epic scope of shooting across two continents. Both of which had been impacted by the Covid pandemic.
The series started filming its first season, but production came to a pause in February 2020 when the pandemic was taking shape. Since the show filmed in multiple countries, production was not able to resume until May 2021 for the remaining ten episodes of the season. Deadline reports that the show hadn’t quite taken off as much as the streaming service’s more popular titles, such as The Morning Show and Ted Lasso.

Plot: Based on the internationally best-selling novel by Gregory David Roberts, “Shantaram” follows a fugitive named Lin Ford looking to get lost in vibrant and chaotic 1980s Bombay. Alone in an unfamiliar city, Lin struggles to avoid the trouble he’s running from in this new place. After falling for an enigmatic and intriguing woman named Karla, Lin must choose between freedom or love and the complications that come with it.
Review: Since its publication in 2003, Shantaram has been in various states of development with everyone from Johnny Depp and Peter Weir to Mira Nair and Joel Egerton involved. Repurposed from a feature film to a series in 2018 by Apple as one of their first international productions. Led by Charlie Hunnam in his first series role since the end of Sons of Anarchy, Shantaram has gone through a few showrunners and the Covid-19 pandemic before finally making it to screens this month.

“Bombay felt exhilaratingly free, a place where everyone started new.” That’s Lin Ford, played by Charlie Hunnam, speaking to us in voice-over about the city where he hopes to begin again. Today known as Mumbai, the Indian metropolis is many things; on “Shantaram,” it’s the staging ground for a white fugitive to lose and find himself. It’s that dynamic that tends to frustrate over the course of a long season.
Based on the novel by Gregory David Roberts and executive produced by Steve Lightfoot, “Shantaram” is set in the 1980s, in the wake of Lin’s prison break. Making his way out of an Australian penal institution in the pilot episode, Lin, a recovering heroin addict, seeks to disappear into a city of millions before, potentially, moving on, but is perpetually drawn toward an intriguing, possibly amoral woman named Karla (Antonia Desplat). No stars, no problem — that may not be the official tagline for “Little America,” but it’s certainly the ethos guiding Lee Eisenberg, Kumail Nanjiani, and Emily Gordon’s new series to success. Absent the big names and stripped of the grand scale tied to every Apple launch title, these eight standalone episodes are inspired by true stories of individual immigrants and their accomplishments in America. Every episode has a new cast, writer, and director; every episode offers a new point of view; not every episode is capital-g “Great!” but they’re all at least, “Pretty good!” Together, they make for a heartwarming, engaging, and informative season — all by focusing on story first, rather than famous faces or bottom lines.
Though episodes tell their own stories, the creative trio listed above serve as the roadmap through “Little America,” plus Sian Heder, who’s an E.P. and co-showrunner with Eisenberg.

Anna Kendrick is set to star in the upcoming film Unsound, a crime thriller from director Bharat Nalluri from a screenplay written by Matthew Ross and Christopher Edwards. Deadline reported the following description of the film and Kendrick’s character:
Kendrick will play a New England state trooper, privately struggling with irreversible hearing loss, who’s tasked with investigating the prison break of a notorious gang leader. As she digs deeper into the most dangerous case of her career, she uncovers a vast conspiracy that, coupled with her deteriorating condition, threatens to end her career — and her life.
This sounds like an interesting story, and Kendrick is a fantastic actress, so I am interested in this film. No other casting has been announced yet, but we will let you know when we hear more. Are you interested in this story so far?...

Exclusive: Bharat Nalluri is attached to direct We Interrupt This Program, a drama financed by Echo Lake Entertainment that focuses on the internal battles between Orson Welles and producer John Houseman that nearly derailed the shocking radio broadcast of War of the Worlds in 1938. Without identifying they were performing a sci-fi play, the broadcast panicked listeners into believing an alien invasion was taking place.
Sean Sorensen wrote the spec script, and Echo Lake’s Doug Mankoff and Andy Spaulding are producing with the writer.
The script explores two dramas unfolding on the night of October 30, 1938. The most well-known is the infamous radio broadcast, where the specter of invading aliens sent shockwaves of panic rippling across America. But even more chaos was taking place behind the scenes because of the stormy relationship between broadcast producer Houseman and Welles, its petulant director and star, that nearly derailed the most influential radio broadcast in history.
