Legendary superstar Jackie Chan is “at his best” (Variety) in Ride On,the adventure comedy for the whole family debuting on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD on October 24 from Well Go USA Entertainment. When debt collectors try—and fail—to seize a horse from a stuntman (Chan), video of the attempt goes viral. Furious, the debt collectors return, leading to hilarious, action-packed antics that outdo even the pair’s most daring acts. Written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Larry Yang, Ride On also stars Kevin Guo (Adoring), Wu Jing, Xing Yu, and Andy On (New Police Story). Bonus material includes two behind-the-scenes featurettes and an English dub.
Synopsis:
After debt collectors attempt to seize the beloved stunt horse of washed-up aging stuntman Luo (Jackie Chan), video of the dynamic duo’s daring escape goes viral on social media, immediately reviving Luo’s movie career. But in the midst of this triumphant return to film,...

Xu Haofeng has emerged as one of the most renowned authors, scriptwriters and directors of martial arts titles, with his credits including “The Grandmaster” (as a script-writer), “The Hidden Sword” and “The Final Master”. His latest works in particular combine wuxia tropes with ultra stylish visuals, with the last among the aforementioned titles being a distinctive sample. The same applies to “100 Yards”, which he co-directed with Xu Junfeng, which had its international premiere in Toronto
100 Yards is screening at Toronto International Film Festival
The story is set in 1920s Tianjin, just as a respected martial artist and leader of a wushu Academy is about to die. A regulated duel between the top apprentice, Qi and the master's son, Shen, kickstarts the saga, with the former winning relatively easily, and thus earning the ownership of the academy, with Chairman Meng acting as the steward of the deceased, enforcing his will.

"If there was trouble within 100 yards of the entrance, it was dealt with." The first teaser trailer is out for a Chinese martial arts action film titled 100 Years, co-directed by the filmmakers Xu Haofeng & Xu Junfeng. This is premiering as a centerpiece selection at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival coming up this fall, its first screening outside of China after showing at the Shanghai Film Festival. Two bitter rivals (starring Jacky Heung and Andy On) duel for stewardship of a wushu academy, in this "cool and calculated" martial arts caper from Xu Haofeng. It's set in the 1920s in Northern China, pre-wwii. With martial arts choreography by Duncan Leung, and cinematography by Shao Dan. The cast also includes Bea Hayden Kuo, Tang Shiyi, and Li Yuan. I'm digging the more minimalistic, refined style of this - clean shots, and clean dialogue. Bring it on. // Continue Reading ›...

Stars: Jackie Chan, Andy On, Liu Haocun, Kevin Guo, Xing Yu | Written and Directed by Larry Yang
Jackie Chan’s latest film, Ride On, is a long way from what most of us have come to expect from its star. Rather than an all-out action film mixing lots of fight scenes and physical comedy, this has been dubbed an“action dramedy” by its makers. Those makers include writer/director Larry Yang, known for dramas such as Adoring and Sorry I Love You. This is another way of saying it’s a serious film about family and the choices we make in life with some fight scenes and the occasional joke about getting a faceful of horse farts.
Lao Luo is a stuntman who has seen better days. He scrapes by these days working as an extra or posing for pictures with his stunt horse Red Hare. In an eventful few hours,...

Plot: Ride On tells the story of washed-up stuntman Luo (Jackie Chan). When Luo’s trusty horse Red Hare becomes the focus of a debt dispute, Luo repairs his relationship with his estranged daughter Bao (Liu Haocun). Moreover, with the help of Bao’s boyfriend, Mickey (Kevin Guo), the team of “three people and one horse” set out to protect their family and loved ones. The action choreography in the film is a homage to Jackie Chan’s classic stunts from his previous movies.
Review: It’s hard to watch your heroes get old. However, that also happens to be a plot point and one of the themes in the new Jackie Chan action dramedy Ride On. Chan’s recent string of films has been somewhat hit or miss. He proclaimed that his last all-out action film that recaptures the spirit of his heyday was going to be the third...

Watch any of the films that made Jackie Chan a legend and you notice that so much of his graceful, goofball charisma comes from simply having one more move up his sleeve. Whether changing position while sliding down a plate-glass skyscraper or falling off a clock face onto a series of awnings or dispatching multiple assailants with his witty brand of bendy, aerobic kung-fu, only to end on a silly eye-poke or a gymnastic semi-levitation, the star-making flourish is so often the extra thing he does when anyone else would be finished.
But what do you do when, nearing 70 and with almost 150 movie performances behind you, there aren’t that many one-more-moves left? Maybe you make something like Larry Yang’s “Ride On,” a sappy but enjoyable slice of family fun that has a nice horse doing wacky tricks for the younger viewers and for parents and older fans, is a gently meta,...

When “Naked Killer” starring Chingmy Yau came out in 1992 and became a cult favorite, producer and scripter Wong Jing followed it up with “Naked Weapon” in 2002 ten years later starring Maggie Q. Fast forward another ten years, the prolific filmmaker Wong resurfaced with another installment of his erotic girls-with-guns thriller “Naked Soldier” this time starring Jennifer Tse and Sammo Hung in the lead.

If you have arachnophobia, you might need to take a deep pull from an inhaler after watching the trailer for Itsy Bitsy, an upcoming horror film in which a single mother and her children are stalked by a spider that's large enough to haunt your dreams for life, but still compact enough to fit in your bathtub or under your bed... As impressive as the trailer for Itsy Bitsy is, the film still needs help from horror fans to make it across the cinematic finish line in post-production, and director Micah Gallo has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help bring his creature feature to the big screen.
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Gallo about his new character-centric thriller, and he discussed teaming up with Daily Dead contributor Jason Alvino and Bryan Dick to write the screenplay, filming the movie in sections, depicting the spider through painstaking practical effects,...

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. So that's how David Lynch does an info dump. First, with a cheeky, knowing scene featuring the brothers Horne: "Jerry, what's going on?" asks Ben (Richard Beymer) after his cannabis-infused sibling (David Patrick Kelly) phones him from the woods. "I think I'm high!…I don't know where I am!" Jerry screams, perhaps speaking for a good subsection of the Twin Peaks revival audience, who have, over the six prior installments, been given only glimpses of a larger picture. Narrative momentum comes in asides; the more prevalent longueurs are reserved for atmosphere and mood, for full immersion in apparent stasis.Part 7 shakes things up, following the brotherly freak-out with several story reveals that come in quick succession. But there's a niggling sense throughout all the...

We open to Senator John Donovan questioning Nilaa about her involvement with the potential sleeper cell attacks. She has no idea who could be involved but swears it does not involve her. Watching from another room, Rebecca receives a call from Keith, who updates her on the loss of the list. Rebecca finishes the call, enters the room and informs them they are taking Nilaa to CTU for further interrogation. After their departure, John confides in his father Henry on how he feels about everything.
Angered over the loss of the Usb drive to Bin Khalid's terrorists, Eric Carter takes out his frustration on Ben. He pins Ben against the ambulance and puts the blame on whatever attack occurs on him, stating he will have contributed to the deaths of innocents. As they are separated, Ben swears to Carter that he can "make it right" before...

That was truly unexpected.
I would never have guessed This Is Us Season 1 Episode 10 would deliver the most intense hour we'd seen to date.
After all, it was our first Christmas with the Pearson family. Surely we were in for some sweet memories, right? Wrong! Although we learned "nothing bad ever happens on Christmas Eve," even that may be coming to an end this year.
View Slideshow: This Is Us Photos from "Last Christmas"
This one was even delivered to us a little differently, with our venture into the past coming at the beginning and right at the very end of the hour.
The year was 1989, and although that particular Christmas Eve featured a trip to the emergency room so Kate could have her appendix removed, the focus was more on Randall than Kate, as Dr. K. was also admitted for wrapping his LeSabre around a tree.
What really threw...

In case you’re keeping score at home, that’s misery: 2, happy holidays: 0 in the This Is Us-verse.
The series’ fall finale spends most of the hour lulling us into a false sense that all will indeed be merry and bright for the Pearsons this Christmas. Old hurts will be smoothed over. New loves will bloom like poinsettias. Painful inevitabilities will seem far-off and unimportant when bathed in the warm glow of familial love.
After all, it’s Dec. 24 and, as Rebecca reminds us throughout the episode,...

(And I fully expect the gloves to come off on this one...) This week has kind-of put me in a fighting mood, what with the Fantastic Fest Debates last weekend, and both Headshot and Boyka: Undisputed being the subject of some of our best-read articles. Also, a recent rewatch of Once Upon A Time In Shanghai (featured in the screenshot above) made me realize that I'd happily watch Philip Ng and Andy On doing "parcours" and beating the crap out of each other for twenty hours, with story only being an optional thing. Discussing the current crop of great on-screen fighters with actual martial artists got me surprisingly mixed and heated results. What one calls athleticism and skill is derided as empty show-boating by someone...

We’ve known since his early days on “Parks and Recreation” that Chris Pratt had the talent and the charisma of a movie star. The last few years have gratiously seen that potential turned into a reality with blockbusters like “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Jurassic World,” and now, “The Magnificent Seven” with Denzel Washington, which hits theaters Sept. 23. Read: “How to Fully Embody a Role” We’ve previously taken a look back at his hilarious audition for Andy on “Parks and Recreation,” and this Marvel screen test between Pratt and “Guardians” co-star Dave Bautista further showcases how to nail an audition. Confident, enthusiastic, and unafraid to off script, Pratt so completely embodies the role...

Chicago – The funniest movie of the summer describes its whole situation through the title – “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.” This hilarious farce features a killer cast, led by Adam Devine and Zac Efron, and brilliant comic direction by Jake Szymanski.
The premise is simple…two brothers, who wreck every social event their family participates in, are chastised by their gruff-but-lovable father (the great Stephen Root) to get some decent dates for their sister’s upcoming wedding. Since each of the bros are between relationships, they solicit the potential dates on Craigslist. Enter two hard partying galpals (Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick), who pretend to be virtuous to get a free vacation to Hawaii (the destination wedding). What could go wrong?

"Watch What Happens Live" host Andy Cohen thought Cameron Diaz had soiled herself at an Oscars viewing party in February.
Andy and Cameron were invited to chat show host Jimmy Fallon's home for an intimate Oscars viewing party, and the group had turned the lights off and were ready to play the ceremony when Cameron noticed a bad smell in the room.
The trio eventually discovered Jimmy's dog had pooped behind the couch, and that Andy had unwittingly stepped in it. It was only recently that Cameron found out Andy originally thought she was the source of the odour.
"I ran into Andy on the street the other night... He goes, 'remember when I thought you s**t... you pooped, your pants?!'" she said, accidentally swearing, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "He totally blamed it on me!

Last year, Anna Faris started a new podcast, called Anna Faris Is Unqualified. Anna, of course, is married to the ever-lovable Chris Pratt. So this week, Anna released a new episode featuring Aubrey Plaza and Jennifer Lawrence, who have both played Chris's love interests on screen. As you may recall, Aubrey and Chris played adorably weird couple April and Andy on Parks and Recreation, while Jennifer definitely has a sex scene with Chris in their upcoming movie, Passengers. Anna really took advantage of the opportunity with her guests to talk about the actresses' respective experiences. Keep reading for all the hilarious quotes. Anna Faris, on Parks and Rec couple April and Andy: "One of my most favorite relationships that I've seen and I know I have a personal attachment to it, but is your relationship with my husband on Parks and Recreation. When Liam Neeson stopped by Radio Andy on Thursday to discuss the new movie he's working on with Bono, he ended up revealing one very sweet story about his late wife, Natasha Richardson, to host John Benjamin Hickey. The actor explained that during their 1994 wedding in Northern Ireland, they had picked out Van Morrison's "Crazy Love" for their wedding song, but Natasha wasn't thrilled with the idea of having a traditional first dance. "After the ceremony we were all going out to start the night's festivities and she grabbed the microphone and she sang me this. She had learned it, and I was like, 'Wow!'" Liam and Natasha were married from 1994 up until her tragic death following a head injury from a skiing accident in 2009. Since then, he has been...
