Actor Nathan Fillion has been the lead in several hit shows, with one of his most popular projects being Firefly. The show has been canceled for years, and yet Fillion is still recognized by the series to this day. However, he also starred in the hit series Castle, attracting a new legion of fans. But which one does he think brought him the most popularity?

It’s easy to see why Fillion would be recognized for Castle. The show was a hit on the network series ABC during its original run. But surprisingly, Firefly might’ve rivaled Fillion’s Castle fame even at the peak of the show’s run. Firefly only lasted for one season from 2002 to 2003. Whereas Castle had a long eight-season run.

Actor Nathan Fillion had a brief period where he had trouble finding work before his breakthrough role. A couple of showrunners took a chance on him when he might’ve needed it the most, allowing Fillion to make a living doing what he enjoyed. Years later, Fillion would reunite with those showrunners again for a special occasion.

Fillion had a guest spot in the hit ABC sitcom American Housewife. On that episode, he played a more exaggerated version of himself. But his American Housewife appearance was particularly special because of a couple of reasons. Fillion found himself somewhat reprising his role as Firefly captain Malcolm Reynolds on the show as well. Additionally, Fillion reunited with Two Guys and a Girl showrunners Rick Weiner and Kenny Schwartz.

Science fiction fans remember the last four months of 2002 as a blessed but bedeviled time. "Firefly" became a 14-episode phenomenon, dead in the water before the season ended, but eternal in the hearts of its viewers. Their passion managed the impossible, reviving the show for a big-screen send-off in "Serenity" and several canonical comic book miniseries. To this day, crafters knit their own loving reconstructions of Jayne's remarkably orange hat. A Malcolm Reynolds -- or five -- can be found at any Sf convention, or recreated in video games by players aiming to misbehave.
The cast was chosen for their charisma and chemistry with each other, and that shines through in the ways they've found to reconnect over the years. Nathan Fillion is a particular lightning rod, doing voice work with Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk in "Halo 3," and co-starring with Tudyk on the web series "Con Man." But...

Time may be an ever-flowing river, but it's hard to believe it's been 30 years since the first (and best) "Jurassic Park" movie graced the big screen. Universal Products & Experiences and Amblin Entertainment knew just how to market/commemorate the occasion, however, and set up an immersive experience at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The experience is replete with more than a few photo opportunities from some of the film's most memorable moments as well as the chance to nosh on some dino-shaped chicken nuggets while buying some 30th-anniversary merchandise via Amazon.
I had the chance to walk through the attraction, appropriately titled "Step Into Jurassic Park," and — after having a nice meet-and-greet with a baby raptor at the door — was eager to follow in the footsteps of doctors Ellie Sattler, Alan Grant, Malcolm Reynolds, and yes, even that asshat of a lawyer, Donald Gennaro, as they enter through the gates...

Joss Whedon's and Tim Minear's 2002 sci-fi series "Firefly" was, for many years, held up as the ur example of pop culture-related missed opportunities. The show lasted only 14 episodes and aired from September to December. Despite being aired out-of-order, "Firefly" accrued an enormously passionate cult following, likely following Whedon over from his other successful shows "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and its spin-off, "Angel." When "Firefly" was released on DVD, its cult audience expanded as fans were now able to see the arc of the series presented properly. Eventually, "Firefly" gained enough cultural traction to warrant a follow-up feature film, 2005's "Serenity." The film was meant, according to fan scuttlebutt, to be the show's unmade second season condensed into 119 minutes. Since 2005, "Firefly" has remained in the realm of board games and tie-in comic books. Since the ousting of Whedon for alleged bad behavior on various sets, demands for a reboot...

When Star Trek: Picard premiered in 2020, the world met Jean-Luc Picard, a man considerably changed by the decades that had passed since his days on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
And while Star Trek: Picard Season 1 took us on a new adventure with new crewmates and considered what it meant to be human, Star Trek: Picard Season 2 traveled even further -- into the past and Picard's own memories.
As the series draws to its close with a third and final season, we come full circle and return to the people we first met with Picard. TV Fanatic has screened the first six of the season's ten episodes and cannot wait to see how this adventure concludes!
You always remember your first, and many of today's Trekkers boldly went on their first Starfleet mission with the Enterprise-d under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

"Firefly" broke a naming pattern. Creator Joss Whedon's previous TV series were named for their protagonists: "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel." "Firefly," on the other hand, is named for its setting; the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity. The ship itself is the main character since it's the glue that holds all of the cast together.
Whereas "Buffy" was a hero's journey, "Firefly" is an ensemble. The supporting characters are as important as Serenity's captain, Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion). According to Adam Baldwin, who played the crude mercenary Jayne Cobb, there not being a single main character also meant none of the cast had the extra job security a lead actor usually does.
Adam Baldwin Explains The Title
"Joss Whedon: The Biography" by Amy Pascale features a quote from Baldwin, recalling what Whedon told the cast at the outset of the series: "You're all expendable. If I choose, you can go at any time.

Every sci-fi movie buff knows the importance of staying off of the Internet for as long as possible after a major film comes out. The last thing that fans want is to have a significant death spoiled for them. Spoilers for movies like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," or "Avengers: Endgame" were up on the Internet days before the films were released. It's always a good idea to stay off Twitter before a highly anticipated movie comes out. Of course, it's also just a good idea to stay off of Twitter in general!
Killing off a character is not a creative decision that science fiction filmmakers take lightly. Some major sci-fi movie deaths were either very controversial or completely ruined the rest of the film. Whether they were shocking, devastating, or disappointing, here are some science fiction movies with deaths that we're still recovering from.

The Joss Whedon TV series "Firefly" ran for a single season on Fox. It never really had a chance for a successful run on network television; the episodes were run out of order, and three were left unaired. Despite this, enough people loved the show and bought the DVD box set that Universal Pictures gave a green light to a follow-up film, "Serenity."
"Firefly" is set hundreds of years in the future, in a world where humans had to leave Earth and colonize space. Powerful people run the more advanced planets, but those who wanted their freedom, fought (and lost) a war over it. Those rebels are now scattered through the wilderness of space, settling into a sort of wild west existence. The series tells the tale of a small band of people including two former military fighters-turned-smugglers, a pilot, a criminal, a Shepard (a religious figure like a pastor...

Anime is not for everybody. However, there are certain emblematic series, like Shinichiro Watanabe’s Cowboy Bebop, that are able to transcend the medium and become pillars of pop culture that are adored by mainstream crowds. Cowboy Bebop is a science fiction series that focuses on a misfit crew of bounty hunters who travel the galaxy to make a big score and survive their own neuroses. Cowboy Bebop’s space setting allows the series to embrace sci-fi archetypes, but the anime is a delirious stew of ingredients that means that riffs on westerns, film noir, and even the horror genre are all fair game. All of these cultural reference points are held together with an electric jazz score that’s as unpredictable as the series’ stories.
Much like the indelible crew of the Bebop, this series plays by its own rules and is thoroughly impossible to define. Netflix’s new...

I must admit that I didn't have high hopes for The Rookie.
First off, the show's concept seemed a little light-weight. A 40-year-old is the oldest rookie to join the Lapd. It left me wondering what difference that would make after he gets through his initial training because there are plenty of 40-something police officers.
Then there was the show creator, Alexi Hawley, who was also the co-showrunner for Castle Season 8. I loved Castle, but you only have to read my Castle Season 8 reviews to find out how much I vehemently despised that final season.
Finally, there was the spoiler which reported that John Nolan, the 40-year-old rookie would be sleeping with a fellow officer about half his age.
None of the above was selling me on The Rookie, but between TV fans asking me about the show and ABC being nice enough to send out a screener of the pilot episode,...

Thanks to Boom! Studios we have a little preview to share with you for Joss Whedon's upcoming Firefly comic book series. This gives us our first look at the new adventures of the Serenity crew. So far, from what I've seen here it looks great! I'm especially excited about the stories that this comic will tell.
The new Firefly comic book series is coming from Boom! Studios and it will explore the Unification War and what the characters like Malcolm Reynolds and Zoe Alleyne Washburne experienced during those battles!
It's cool that we are going to get stories that will dive into the history of the war that took place between the Alliance and the Independents. Which, as you know, is the war that Mal and Zoe fought together on... on the losing side. It's those experiences they had that defined their characters throughout Firefly’s run.

While we watch every other old TV series get a revival or a reboot, the best thing that we can get from Firefly is a new comic book series. I'm not complaining, I'm happy that we are going to get new Firefly adventures! I just wish it would have been a new live-action or animated series to come along with it! Today we have a new piece of variant cover art for the series created by Jg Jones.

We are headed into the Sweet 16 today for the 2nd annual HitFix March Mayhem. As we bid farewell the Round Two, who is looking to take home the top prize and who will be left out in the cold? Things are heating up for Heroes vs. Villains! In only three days, fandoms across the Internet cast their votes nearly 63,000 times in an attempt to get their favorite Hero or Villain into the Sweet 16. But in the end, not everyone could move on. Xena, reigning champion from last year, continues to slay all-comers, but now that the Warrior Princess is pitted against Arya Stark, can she hold out? Other favorites who moved forward by a large margin included Han Solo, who handily defeated Peter Venkman of “Ghostbusters.” Will the charming rogue be able to fend off a Red Room Academy graduate? On the TV side, Walter White decimated Catwoman. That means it’s Heisenberg vs.

Its down to the wire! Overall, the fan groups have been turning out in droves for this second year: the votes in the first week alone will likely match last year’s entire tournament. And thanks to this voter surge, our reigning titans are getting a real run for their money. Let’s look across the divisions: In the Movie Heroes Division, the two top-ranked heavyweights – Batman and Han Solo are both easily holding up their first round matches, fending off Philip Marlowe and Flash Gordon without hardly breaking a sweat. They better not think they can coast all the way to the division finals however, because right in the middle, Black Widow’s fanbase has been pouring in,...

It's been announced that Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has been cast in a recurring role in Season 2 of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Executive producer/supervising director Dave Filoni said, “We're thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season 2. She is a true 'Star Wars Rebels' fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions.”
Hopefully Sarah Michelle Gellar's character arc will last for many episodes, because selling the long-term emotional resonance of the title character's ongoing struggles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the key strengths of her iconic seven-year performance as Buffy Summers. And with all new Star Wars (from Star Wars Rebels onwards) said to be inter-connected in story terms, who knows what other instalments of the franchise the character could appear in?

QMx has released a video showing off their Firefly Malcolm Reynolds 1:6 scale Master Series Statue. They say that this is their most complex statue to date
"It took over two years to design and required talents of both digital and analog sculptors to pull off. Cast in polystone and entirely hand-painted."
It came with the following description:
Standing defiant in the face of inevitable defeat, pistol at the ready and gripping the tattered banner of the Independents, this is how we imagine Sergeant Malcolm Reynolds at the height of the Battle of Serenity Valley.
It’s a battle that would come to symbolize a great sacrifice for Independent forces and a conflict that Sergeant Reynolds would never fully leave behind.
It turned out awesome, and if you'd like to pre-order one for yourself click here.

Nathan Fillion and Joss Whedon have a very long working relationship that started when Fillion played the legendary Captain Malcolm Reynolds on FIrefly. Since then they've worked on several projects together, with Fillion even playing the "Little Bad" in season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They have such a strong friendship that Fillion wrote a wonderful foreword to Whedon's biography. The foreword was published by USA Today, and I've included part of it below:
My generation, we were kind of raised on the super-cool, "I can handle anything" with a gun in his hand hero. Any situation you throw at him, he can handle it — with catchphrases. It was very cool.
But Joss Whedon's version of a hero doesn't always win. He loses more than he wins, and when he wins, the victories are tiny, but he takes 'em. "That's a victory! I call that a victory!" It's a tiny victory — he takes it,...

In that case, a book entitled Joss Whedon: Geek King of the Universe, with the title in the same font as The Avengers, with a background from Marvel's Agents of Shield, and featuring pictures on the cover of Joss Whedon himself, Woody from Toy Story, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers from the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Serenity, and Iron Man, is obviously perfect for you.
But if you're just a casual fan looking to see what all the fuss is about, this biography will fill you in on the man's life and work right up to Much Ado About Nothing.

It is nearly twelve years since the powers-that-be at Fox had the foresight to cancel what would become one of the most beloved sci-fi series of all time. Not happy with putting the Kibosh on the dark and complex pilot episode, or only screening 11 of the 14 produced episodes, Fox broke the hearts of ‘Browncoat” diehards everywhere by prematurely pulling the plug on a show that was intended to run for 7 seasons.
However, the franchise refused to die easily and the 2005 big screen release of film sequel Serenity gave hope that Firefly would once again return to television. Nine years later this has still failed to transpire, partially due to Serenity’s average showing at the box office but also largely due to the career developments of some of its main players, most significantly creator Joss Whedon.

Joss Whedon, lauded king of fandom, purveyor of wisdom and de facto overseer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, celebrates his 50th birthday on Monday (June 23).
Whedon's always had a knack for taking pre-established characters – whether it's The Avengers or a gang of talking toys or the cast of Speed – and making them just that bit more quippy and emotionally rich and awesome. But it's his original small-screen characters that remain his most beloved.
Below, Digital Spy counts down our top fifteen Whedonverse characters. You can vote for your favourite in the poll below, then take to the comments to rank about all the rankings we got wrong and all the favourites we've inevitably left out.
15. Dr Horrible
Neil Patrick Harris's "aspiring supervillain" is never at any point successfully villainous. He's a more immediately loveable extension of Buffy's Nerd Troika – the perpetually overlooked semi-recluse who can barely string a sentence together around his crush,...

Firefly was ahead of its time. Had the show debuted only a couple of years after 2002, it could have had a long, intriguing run. Actually, had the uptight execs at 20th Century Fox not cancelled the show and let the fanbase grow as word of mouth spread, I have no doubt that Firefly would have been one of the most popular shows of the early 2000s, and certainly one of the most popular Sci-Fi shows of all time.
After only fourteen episodes and a motion picture to tie up loose ends, Firefly is still beloved by millions all over the world. Over the years, there have been plenty of collectibles produced based on the property—some licensed, some not—but not much in the action figure department. Funko is producing the crew of Serenity through their upcoming ReAction line. For nostalgic purposes those figures are pretty cool, but for the...

Set 500 years into the future, 'Idiocracy' on a superficial level has absolutely nothing in common with Joss Whedon's space western cult classic 'Firefly.' And the implication otherwise is downright insulting. But scratch just beneath the surface and suddenly these two opposing ideologies of the future merge into one cohesive universe. Let's look at the facts. Fact: 'Idiocracy' and 'Firefly' take place at the same time. Private Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson) and Rita (Maya Rudolph) are sent into hibernation in the year 2006 and they wake up 500 years later, setting the date at 2506. The Battle of Serenity Valley, in which Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillon) and the Browncoats lost their bid for independence from the Core Worlds happened in May of 2511. “So what”, you say, sharpening your authentic reproduction of River Tam’s axe and sword, hate in your eyes. “If anything, that proves they couldn't be in the same...

As if the cast of Marvel's Agents of Shield wasn't talented enough already, the show just keeps on adding more impressive guest stars, with the likes of Bill Paxton, Adrian Pasdar, and Patton Oswalt still to feature this season. The latest addition is one Amy Acker, in what will be her fifth role in a Joss Whedon production, proving that once you've been in the Whedonverse, you never leave.
Amy Acker will be playing the role of The Cellist in Portland, in at least one episode. Ardent fans will know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been subtly but steadily building up to her character. Coulson's former romantic interest was mentioned in The Avengers, and then, very deliberately, two or three in Marvel's Agents of Shield. Marvel (and Joss Whedon, for that matter) have a habit of setting tiny plot elements into motion, and then bringing them back, often as something much bigger.

It's Nathan Fillion's birthday and you can't let such an event pass by without taking the time to celebrate the "Castle" star. Though Fillion appeared on many shows, including a regular role on "Two Guys and a Girl," he jumped onto the radar of most as Malcolm Reynolds on Joss Whedon's "Firefly."
The show may have only lasted one short season, but it was enough to give him a permanent place in the pop culture hall of fame. His continuing to work with Whedon on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and, of course, "Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog," certainly didn't hurt the cause.
Now, with "Castle" going strong, there's no stopping Fillion. So take a moment to bask in his birthday glow with a collection of his best on-screen moments, captured in Gif form.

The majority of TV shows never last past the first season. Usually, it’s because they suck. But every once in a while a show comes and goes in an instant that actually warrants being remembered, that is far better than its short life would indicate and, after that cruel early cancellation, develops a massive cult following. Few shows better fit that model than Firefly, Joss Whedon’s thoroughly inventive 14-episode space-western saga. Let’s explore it.
The world of Firefly
Captain Malcolm Reynolds is a gun-slinging, quip-zinging former soldier on the losing end of a war for independence in the year 2517. Unwilling to live under the thumb of a totalitarian regime, he acquires a spaceship, Serenity, along with a ragtag crew of fighters, technicians, passengers, and nuisances, and flies to the outer reaches of the colonized universe looking for any kind of job he can get (but mostly smuggling,...

It all used to be so simple when it came to superheroes on the big screen. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, X-Men … the odd spot of Catwoman or Daredevil if one were really unlucky. So how did we reach a place where the most hyped comic book movie of the year stars a futuristic crazy gang of blisteringly obscure space weirdos featuring a talking racoon with a machine gun, several emerald-skinned extraterrestrials and something that looks a bit like a tree with legs?

Browncoats (fans of Joss Whedon’s short-lived TV show “Firefly” and its feature film follow-up “Serenity”) have had reason to rejoice since Dark Horse Comics announced that the adventures of Captain Malcolm Reynolds and Co. will continue with a new six-issue comic series, “Serenity: Leaves on the Wind.” What makes this even sweeter for fans is the choice of writer for the series: television scribe Zack Whedon... Also known as Joss’ little brother.
Most of the previously published Firefly/Serenity comics, including those scripted by Zack, focused on backstory, or events that occurred between the TV show and the film. “Leaves on the Wind” will be the first series to pick up the action right where “Serenity” left off. It commences roughly 39 weeks after the Serenity crew managed to give the big bad guys of the Alliance a sizeable butt-kicking, with a very pregnant Zoe (widow...

Attn: Joss Whedon fans! We have more news from Nycc, and it involves three series created by said man of the hour: Buffy Season 10, Angel & Faith Season 10, and a new storyline for Serenity, all coming in 2014.
From the Press Release:
Announced at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse is bringing the Whedonverse into its tenth season with the help of fan favorite authors Christos Gage and Victor Gischler.
“In Buffy, Season 10 is going to be about bringing friendships back together, while in Angel & Faith, relationships are shattered. Magic is starting to come back into the world, but in some surprising ways, like that vampire we saw standing in the sunlight at the end of Season 9,” says Editor-in-Chief Scott Allie.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 is slated for 30 issues, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Rebekah Issacs with covers by long-time series artist Steve Morris.

To some, Joss Whedon doing Shakespeare is as random a notion as Michael Bay directing a Chekhov play. Whedon, known for his outstanding work on television shows and films such as Firefly, Dollhouse, The Avengers, and Serenity, seems like one of the last people who would suddenly slip over into the realm of the Bard’s classic repertoire of plays, but lo and behold, even with his extremely busy schedule on The Avengers, Whedon took 12 days to put together a modernized telling of Much Ado About Nothing, using his own house, a group of friends, a limited budget, and the high hopes that this wouldn’t turn out to be just a silly little home movie.
The story involves a group of soldiers returning from battle led by Don Pedro (Reed Diamond). After his reconciliation with his brother, Don John (Sean Maher), they have decided to stay at the home of a friend,...

"Community" is about to get the king of "Castle" as a guest star. Nathan Fillion is set to appear in an episode of Season 5. Find out who he will be playing here.
We're not talking about a mystery writer or a futuristic space captain here either. Fillion will instead be playing a lowly custodian (as reported by Deadline). Annie (Alison Brie) and Professor Hickey (guest star Jonathan Banks) meet Fillion's character, Bob Waite, when the student and teacher team up to navigate Greendale Community College's network of power.
You see, Bob isn't just any lowly collector of trash cans -- he is the politically savvy head custodian at the school. Considering how powerful the air conditioning repair annex is at Greendale, you can imagine what power the custodial staff yields.

I ran across an intriguing headline recently:
“7 Cool Jobs From Movies That Would Suck In Real Life”
This is from a site called Guyism, which is exactly the sort of site you’d expect it to be and so actually includes “gangster” and “international assassin” on its list of cool movie jobs and doesn’t seem to understand why being a “globe-trotting archaeologist” or “wacky scientist” or “space smuggler” wouldn’t suck. Or at least they home in on the wrong things that would suck: sticking it to The Man so much that The Man is furious as hell at you is part of why Han Solo or Malcolm Reynolds are cool and a bonus part of their job, not a negative.
(If you’re suspecting this post is merely a pretext to post another picture of Nathan Fillion, you wouldn’t be wrong about that. Neither “movie blogger” nor...

It’s funny what we, as human beings can attach emotion to. Fiction of all types, be it printed or visual resonates with us because we empathize with characters. They trigger emotion in us and that makes us feel connected to that world that’s being built.
I’ve never been shy about expressing my escapist leanings when it comes to entertainment. I see no shame in it. If a couple of hours spent with Dr. Who or Malcolm Reynolds makes my life a little bit better, then I’ll take the simple joys where I find them and go on with my life.

Last week, Idw released a new X-Files comic, “X-Files Season 10.” Like the Buffy series from Dark Horse, as well as continuations of Jericho, Smallville, Charmed and Farscape, comics are increasingly becoming home to cancelled television shows. Most of these shows have a cult following, so continued runs in comic form suits them well. I asked the comics team at Sound on Sight to think about what cancelled TV shows they would most like to see completed via comics. Here’s what we came up with…

While it would be presumptuous for me to label any of Shakespeare’s plays his ‘best’ – I have read many of them, and even taken a few classes on the subject, but am certainly not an expert – I can say with confidence that Much Ado About Nothing is my favorite. While many of Shakespeare’s comedies require extensive notes and annotations to understand the humor – pun sources, word plays, and cultural jokes do not tend to survive 500 years historical distance – Much Ado has barely aged a day. Even on the page, I find it consistently laugh-out-loud funny, often hysterically so, because nearly all the humor stems organically from some of the most clearly defined and richly realized characters across all of Shakespeare’s texts. The plot – that of rumors, both malicious and well-intended, leading to romantic harmony and betrayal – is a fun one, but mostly secondary to the main attraction...

Castle, as a result of its male lead—Firefly’s Nathan Fillion—has an established history of geek referencing. Usually, these references are winks at itself: Richard Castle dressing up as Malcolm Reynolds for Halloween (although he identifies as a “space cowboy” rather than as Mal), Kate Beckett referring to a party as “shiny,” Martha asking Castle (with great incredulity) “You haven’t heard of the Serenity?” and appearances by Fillion’s old shipmates Adam Baldwin and Gina Torres.
But it goes a bit deeper than this. Fillion, himself a mammoth geek, has made Richard Castle into one as well. The mystery writer collects toys, is an avid gamer, and has a full-size Boba Fett in his bathroom. In an industry where actors...

After a long wait that started with the raves coming out of last year's Toronto International Film Festival, Joss Whedon's "Much Ado About Nothing" finally is opening in limited release, and it is absolutely worth your time.
The only thing to really say about "Much Ado" is that you owe it to your brain and your heart to go see it, but if we have to break it down, these are the five reasons we'd give for checking out the movie.
Your High School Self Was Wrong About Shakespeare
Remember how boring Shakespeare was in high school when the teacher barely had enough patience to get through a play with a group of uninterested teens? That was never the best environment to experience the works of perhaps the greatest writer of all time, and so you owe it to yourself to see the material handled intelligently. Whedon and his...

If you are a TV aficionado, then you have probably been hearing the term “anti-hero” a lot in the past decade. In fact, Showtime has made a fortune off of its “anti-hero” platform showcasing its series Dexter, Weeds, Homeland, Nurse Jackie, Californication, as well as its upcoming new series Ray Donovan. These are perfect examples of shows that feature the joys and triumphs of “anti-heroes.”
But recently the “anti-hero” craze seems to have reached such a saturation point that no one can exactly define what an “anti-hero” is and how it differs from just being a villain or a hero.
The standard dictionary definition of “anti-hero” is someone who lacks heroic virtues, such as being morally good, courageous, or noble. Whereas classic heroes are “white knight” types who are noble, good of heart, moral, and who try to behave in an exemplary fashion. Villains on the other hand are diabolical,...

"Defiance" premiered Monday (April 15) on Syfy -- is it the latest must-watch science fiction show to hit the airwaves?
We think fans of "Battlestar Galactica" are in for a treat. While not set in space, "Defiance," like "BSG," pits humans in a post-apocalyptic world working with, and against, alien creatures who have taken over their planet.
In addition, "Defiance" also has an added mystery element. Wherein "BSG," viewers were left wondering who was a Cylon and who was not, "Defiance" introduced shady former mayor, Nicky Riordan (Fionnula Flanagan), and the mysterious Mr. Birch, who are working with someone to try to wipe Defiance off the map. Working with them are the toaster-like Volges, a Votan race hostile towards other Votans and humans alike.
(For the record, we're guessing the Earth Republic is somehow involved, since it came up several times that Mayor Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) does not want to trade with them.
