Exclusive: Multi-Oscar nominated director Bruce Beresford is set to direct The Place I Belong about pro golfer Moe Norman.
The Place I Belong follows the rise of Norman, from caddie and bowling alley pinsetter to playing the Masters and on the pro tour. His eccentric behavior led Moe to be bullied out of the sport he loved, but he became an unknown legend, playing and winning smaller tournaments, setting course records, living hand to mouth, sometimes sleeping in his car or in sand traps at the courses he played.
David Carver is producing. Carver co-wrote screenplay with Mark Bergen, Josh Schorr and Todd Korgan, based on previous versions by Joshua Michael Stern, David Lee Miller and Eric Adams.
David Steinberg and Robyn Todd are EPs. Wayne Gretzky and Janet Gretzky are co-producers.
Beresford has directed over 25 films including the four-time Oscar winning Best Picture Driving Miss Daisy” which grossed over $145M WW back in 1989-1990. He also helmed Tender Mercies which won two Oscars and one Golden Globe; Breaker Morant.
Says Beresford, “The central character is delightfully eccentric and the story of his amazing life and career those around it, is told with humor, compassion, sophistication and insight. I enthusiastically accepted the offer to direct such a fascinating group of characters and story, told on and off the golf course.”
Carver adds, “Bruce’s skill with the period piece genre, particularly in transformational roles, and the simple fact that he makes very classy movies, has us overwhelmed with appreciation that he will be directing our 25-year passion project.”
Beresford is represented by David Gersh of The Gersh Agency. Steinberg and Todd are represented by Jason Weinberg and Michael Rosenberg of Untitled Entertainment.

The fest takes place Aug. 1-5 with more than 50 events and 40 artists. Among those on hand to help celebrate what is being branded as the first non-profit institution and national-scale visitors experience dedicated to the art of comedy will be Lily Tomlin, Amy Schumer, Fran Drescher, original “Saturday Night Live” cast members Dan Aykroyd, Laraine Newman, Garrett Morris and “SNL” writer, bestselling author and Tony Award-winning playwright Alan Zweibel.

Monday night’s premiere of Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind drew more than one million viewers on HBO’s main channel, the highest performing Monday night documentary in 12 years, according to the premium cabler.
That is the best performance for a Monday night docu premiere on HBO since When The Levees Broke Pt. 1 & 2, which drew 1.74 million viewers on August 21, 2006, and is the highest overall viewership for a documentary debut since the January 2017 premiere of Bright Lights, which aired on a Saturday night, with 1.55 million viewers.
Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind is an intimate portrait of Williams, told largely by the comedian himself, examining his life, career, and what drove him to give voice to the characters in his mind.
The documentary features never-before-seen footage and in-depth interviews with Billy Crystal, Eric Idle, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Steve Martin, Pam Dawber, Zak Williams and others.

Legendary comedian and newly minted podcast host David Steinberg compared Donald Trump to Richard Nixon — who used to send hecklers to Steinberg’s shows — in a new interview with TheWrap. “Donald Trump’s more dangerous than just the little audience that I had where they were heckling me,” Steinberg said. “He could turn out to be wonderful. I don’t see it yet, but it might be there.” In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Steinberg was a frequent guest on “The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.” Steinberg’s comedy often veered into the political realm, and he claims that Carson began getting calls.

The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

When it came to the future of HBO’s “Curb,” which quietly trailed off after season 8 with no confirmation as to whether or not it would continue for a ninth, David said, “After eight seasons on ‘Curb,’ I’m just not sure my ideas are gonna be good enough for a whole season.” When a heckler called out, “Yes, they will!” David replied, “I’ve been heckled a lot, but that was the nicest one.”
“I feel bad that I don’t have shows for them,” he told Steinberg of obsessed series fans, “and I haven’t given up the hope.”

George Zimmerman’s family wanted to get him a reality show to “rebrand” his image Zimmerman’s family felt the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who shot and killed Trayvon Martin could have his image rehabilitated via reality television. Larry David "quit" Seinfeld for the second time following a meeting with NBC execs about the fledgling sitcom's upcoming third season in 1991. In conversation with frequent collaborator David Steinberg at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, the comedian and showrunner recalled that before the meeting, executives from Seinfeld producer Castle Rock Entertainment told him, "Look, just do us a favor, Ok? Just don't say anything." The network's ideas were universally terrible, David said, "but I kept quiet." In the parking lot after the meeting, he told Jerry Seinfeld and Castle Rock he was quitting.

If comedy has a Dorothy Parker, it’s Caroline Hirsch. The nightclub that bears her name on Broadway at the north end of Times Square is her salon, and for more than 30 years now, Carolines has been hosting the funniest and most famous stand-up comedians. From Jerry Seinfeld to Dave Chappelle to Louis Ck and Tracy Morgan, Carolines has been more than a prime showcase for the most hilarious people alive — it’s a room every comic has to conquer in order make his or her bones in the business.
Hirsch will be the first to admit that she herself isn’t funny.

Richard Belzer's final episode of "Law & Order: Svu" as Detective John Munch could use more of him.
The Wednesday (Oct. 16) episode, "Wonderland Story," opens with a collection of characters bidding farewell to Munch at a roast in his honor. All NYPD detectives have to retire by their 63rd birthday. (Belzer, who has played Munch in a record 10 different shows over 20 years, is 69.)
Though the detectives always wear jackets and shirts with collars and ties, they are spiffier in this episode as they gather to roast their friend. Munch is the spiffiest of all, entering in a white dinner jacket and black bow tie. He looks as if he's in Vegas, not Brooklyn, where the scene was shot.
"I have to admit I did underestimate you at first," Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) says. "And I have to admit Detective Munch is not just a brilliant detective but a very,...

David Steinberg may not be a household name, but it is a name that means a great deal to anyone in the world of comedy. Indeed, Steinberg -- the host of Showtime's Inside Comedy, which is now vying for a nomination for the outstanding variety, music or comedy series Emmy -- is essentially the genre's Kevin Bacon, a guy who knows and/or has worked with everyone, and, just as importantly, a guy who virtually everyone who knows and/or has worked with him likes. The 70-year-old Canadian got his start in comedy nearly a half-century ago, when, after seeing a

Chicago — Comedy fans know the names – John Belushi, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Joan Rivers – but before those famous faces graced Hollywood movies or the "Saturday Night Live" stage they were discovered by Bernie Sahlins, co-founder of The Second City.
Alumni of the Chicago comedy club spent Monday remembering Sahlins, who died Sunday at age 90, as an innovator who along with business partners Howard Alk and Paul Sills opened the theater in December 1959. It quickly gained national attention and helped establish Chicago as a vibrant comedy town.
"Bernie was absolutely crucial in the formative years of Second City, as important a figure as it's ever had," said comedian and actor Robert Klein, who went on from Second City in 1965 to star on television series and in movies.
Second City caught on within months of opening, despite some early money problems and other issues. It became instrumental in the growth and development of improvisational and sketch comedy.
