As Paramount+ prepares for its splashy, star-studded U.K. and Ireland launch in London on Monday, Paramount’s president and CEO of streaming Tom Ryan spoke to Variety about the rebranded company’s global streaming biz expansion that, besides being powered by original content, stands out in the field for its diversified model.
This model involves a mix of platforms and partnerships, combining direct-to-consumer and a la carte offerings with a market-by-market approach. The two main prongs that distinguish Paramount’s streaming offer are the combination of the fast-growing Paramount+ premium offer and its free, ad-supported streaming service Pluto TV, which Ryan founded.
The global rollout will see Paramount+ launch in 2023 in India in partnership with Viacom18, which recently scored streaming rights to the Indian Premier League cricket tournament previously held by Disney+. In its first Asia launch, Paramount+ debuted last week in South Korea as a free-of-charge addition to the Cj Enm-controlled TVing platform.

New animated series Big Nate, based on the best-selling children’s books and comic strip written and drawn by Lincoln Peirce, is set to debut on Paramount+ in early 2022.
Ben Giroux is set to voice the titular character, a sixth-grader who believes he is awesome. He’s funny, entertaining, and even a little insecure, but he’s not about to let the rest of the world know that.
Disney star Dove Cameron will portray Nate Wright’s older sister and the object of his angst, Ellen. If Ellen has flaws, Nate’s never seen them, but he’s determined to find them anyway.
Their dad Martin will be played by Rob Delaney, whose life has not gone as planned. Although he’s raising two kids alone, he tries not to complain.

Murakami also discusses how the show seeks to keep the new villains from looking like carbon copies of Batman's more traditional rogue's gallery, i.e. keeping Cluemaster from being a poor man's Riddler or Magpie from being a Poison Ivy knockoff. There's a lot more insight from Glen in the video above about some of the behind-the-scenes decision-making on the show. Clear your schedule tomorrow at 10 Am, there's a new Batman cartoon set to take over Cartoon Network's airwaves. There's been some bad luck recently concerning the cancellations of "Young Justice" and "Green Lantern: The Animated Series" but this is Batman, and Batman always sells! All kidding aside, here are a few snippets from a recent Q&A with the show's prodcuers Glen Murakami and Mitch Watson. On how long they've been developing the show: Mitch Watson: "I've been working on this show for three years, and Glen's been working on it for two. It took us a full year just to come up with the version you'll see on the air this weekend. I think it was when Glen came on board with the idea that we do a new sort of rogues gallery that we discovered the version that finally made it into production for us to expand on.

“The first version was an Escape From New York kind of thing, which was a lot of fun, but I agree it was probably too dark for where they wanted to go with the show,” says Beware the Batman producer Mitch Watson in an exclusive interview. “Then we came up with the lighter version of the show, which was Batman – specifically Bruce Wayne – and Clark Kent at the beginning of their careers. The show revolved around Clark as a cub reporter coming to Gotham City, where he meets Bruce. They’re also just becoming Batman and Superman. Clark and Bruce become friends, but Batman and Superman hate each other. Then they realize who each other is and get on the right side and end up living in the same building." Cartoons today seem like they're all aiming for the silly slapstick tone of an "Adventure Time" or "Ultimate Spider-Man." You don't see too many serious storytelling approaches to animation anymore like "Batman: The Animated Series" or "Justice League." Or when you do, like the recent "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" or "Young Justice," the shows rarely survive to see a third season. Heck, some are lucky to even make it through their first! It's for that reason alone why I have high hopes for "Beware the Batman" which premieres this Saturday on Cartoon Network (10 Am). There's absolutely nothing wrong with humor in animation, far from it. However, a sincere, reality structured animation program amidst all of the Acme xeroxes would make for a nice palate cleanser; fruit between cheese cubes if you will. Below, "Beware the Batman" producers Glen Murakami and Mitch Watson do their best...

Cartoon Network has released a new full trailer for their new CG animated series Beware The Batman. There's no dialogue in this promo, but there's lots of new footage featuring some of the villains that Batman will be up against, such as Professor Pyg, Anarky, and more. This looks like it's going to be a well made series; it looks better than the stuff Marvel is doing right now in animation. That's hard for me to say because I'm a Marvel fanboy, but right now they are dropping the ball in the animation arena.

"Beware the Batman" is the latest animated series from Cartoon Network to bring the adventures of the Dark Knight to the small screen, this time with a slick CGI makeover and an updated rogues' gallery, including both familiar antagonists and newer villains that have never been seen in animated form before.
The Huffington Post has an exclusive preview of the series' first full-length teaser trailer -- featuring all new footage that highlights the Caped Crusader's showdowns with Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie.
This iteration of Batman is voiced by "Banshee's" Anthony Ruivivar, with Jb Blanc as ex-secret agent Alfred Pennyworth and Sumalee Montano as lethal swordswoman Katana, both of whom will lend Batman backup. Giving voice to the villains are Wallace Langham as Anarky, Grey DeLisle as Magpie, Udo Kier as Mr. Toad, Lance Reddick as Ra’s al Ghul and Brian George as Professor Pyg. Warner Bros. Animation...

Animation producers (and spouses) Allison Abbate and Tony Cervone recently stopped by the Radio Rashy podcast to talk with animation writer/producer Paul Dini and his wife, actress/magician Misty Lee.
A lot of the discussion revolved around Abbate's work on Tim Burton's Frankenweenie feature film but Cervone, who's a supervising producer on Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, mentioned the Cartoon Network series.
Cervone said, "There are 11 shows left that will finish the series off at 52 episodes. I'm not sure when they're coming back. I never know when they're coming back. If I had to guess, probably in the summer because it usually airs in the summer. But I can't wait for these last 11 to get out for people to see them because they're crazy."

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Cartoon Network has released this first fun teaser trailer for their new CG animated series Beware the Batman. The series will air in 2013, as part of the networks DC Nation block. I'm really hoping this series ends up being as cool as it sounds. It would be great to see a little bit more of this, but from what I can see there's potential. But I don't think it will live up to the classic Batman: The Animated Series.
Here's the synopsis:
A cool, new take on the classic Dark Knight franchise, Beware the Batman incorporates Batman’s core characters with a rogues gallery of new villains not previously seen in animated form.
Along with backup from ex-secret agent Alfred and lethal swordstress Katana, the Dark Knight faces the twisted machinations of Gotham City’s criminal underworld led by the likes of Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie.

Cartoon Network has released a new image and details for their new CG animated series Beware the Batman. The series will air sometime in 2013, as part of the DC Nation block. One of the best procedurals currently on television is a half-hour cartoon that has been on television in one form or another since 1969 and was a major inspiration for what many (myself included) believe was the greatest serial drama in the history of television. The irony is that Scooby-Doo was solidly mediocre until the debut of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated last summer.
The reason that Scooby-Doo was mediocre for decades was that it was designed to protect children from violence on children’s television. When it debuted in 1969, it was intended to be a safer replacement for its more violent predecessors like Jonny Quest and Space Ghost. The series was formulaic to a...

If past years are any indication, Comic-Con will begin releasing its official 2011 panel schedule later today (Wednesday) with the schedule for Preview Night, Wednesday, July 20. If that happens then we can expect them to follow suit for the rest of the days, so that Thursday will see the release of the Thursday of Con schedule, etc., through Sunday.
Once the official schedules are posted these “TV and Movie Panels and Screenings Updates” will be scaled back to just the date, time, title, and location, since the rest of the information and So Much More (including comics panels, autograph signings, etc.) will be available on the Comic-Con schedule link we’ll provide. Consider this, then, the last of the extremely long posts, and hopefully we’ll be getting that official schedule soon.
Hmm, here’s an interesting matchup: Glee will be in Hall H on Sunday at 10:00; Supernatural will be...
