One of the most anticipated and hottest films of 2024 is finally here. We are talking about Zendaya‘s Challengers which was memed to death for a threesome scene that was shown in the trailer but if you have seen the film then you know that the brilliance of the film is much more than that one scene. Directed by Call Me By Your Name‘s Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes, the sports romantic drama follows the story of a talented tennis player Tashi, and her twisted relationship with two tennis players, one of whom is her husband now. Challengers stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor in the lead role with Jordan Thompson, Faith Fay, Hailey Gates, and Tierre Diaz starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved the story of ambition and toxic relationships in Challengers you should check out these films with similar themes next.

It was not the best time for Hollywood star Will Smith despite winning an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Richard Williams in his 2021 film, King Richard. The celebration of his Oscar win was sidelined by his behavior as he slapped presenter Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards.

As Rock attempted to lighten the event with laughter, he made a joke directed at Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith while introducing the nominees for Best Documentary at the Oscars. Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes in response to the joke. Smith found it funny at first as he was seen laughing at the joke, but after seeing his wife’s response, the actor could not hold back and rushed to the stage and slapped Rock.

Stars: Arielle Cartwright, Liam Walker | Written and Directed by Richard Williams
Making his feature debut, writer/director Richard Williams opens White Blood with nostalgia-tinged scenes of a loving couple in the style of grainy video recordings. It captures the idea of wanting to hold onto past memories, yet this is a momentary comfort as real-life pains intrude when Betty (Arielle Cartwright) receives a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Arriving at a rented house, Betty and her partner, Mark (Liam Walker), intend to spend their last few days happy on their honeymoon before carrying out a suicide pact. As the planned date draws closer, tensions rise as the reality of their actions dawns upon the pair.
What unfolds is a character-focused piece where the two leads are faced with the fragility of human life, and how it causes them to react. Mark is clearly horrified by the idea of losing his beloved and,...

Denzel Washington is one of the most distinguished actors in Hollywood at present. In a career that has spanned over four decades, Washington has become synonymous with the film industry itself.
Not only has he been a part of several memorable films, but he has also set the benchmark for acting, and in the process, has won numerous accolades and awards. However, to get to where he is in his career now, he has had to make some difficult choices. It worked out in the end for The Book of Eli star and other actors who benefited from Washington giving up a few roles.

Since the Academy Awards were first handed out in 1929, only 23 Oscars have been awarded to performances given by Black actresses and actors. Hattie McDaniel made history for Black performers by winning for “Gone With the Wind” (supporting in 1939), while Sidney Poitier was the first male actor to prevail for “Lilies of the Field” (lead in 1963). Denzel Washington became the first two-time Black acting champion when he claimed victory for “Glory” (supporting in 1989) and “Training Day” (lead in 2001), with Mahershala Ali joining him years later for “Moonlight” (supporting in 2016) and “Green Book” (supporting in 2018). Halle Berry was the first, and so far only, Black Best Actress thanks to “Monster’s Ball” (2001). The acting category with the most Black winners is Best Supporting Actress, with 10 including recent champ Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “The Holdovers” (2023). Kingsley Ben-Adir transforms into Bob Marley in the new trailer for Bob Marley: One Love which hits cinemas in February.
We first got a glimpse of Reinaldo Marcus Green’s biopic on Bob Marley back in July when a tantalising teaser trailer for Bob Marley: One Love was revealed. Paramount Pictures have now released a full trailer which gives us a better look at Kingsley Ben-Adir as the iconic musician.
Take a look at the brand new trailer below.
The film will focus on Marley’s rise to fame, but also the struggles that came with it. As seen in the trailer, Marley was the subject of assassination attempts, but his positive outlook on life never waivered. Lashana Lynch portrays Marley’s wife Rita, who notes that “sometimes the messenger has to become the message” as Marley spreads the message of peace through his music.

Will Smith shared new details about “I Am Legend 2,” which he stars in and produces alongside Michael B. Jordan, on Saturday night at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The upcoming sequel is based on the alternate ending used in the 2007 post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie’s DVD release, rather than its theatrical version, in which his character dies, according to Smith.
Smith, who is one of a number of Hollywood A-list star guests at the third edition of the Red Sea Film Festival, also discussed “Bad Boys 4”, where he and co-star Martin Lawrence will reprise their roles in the earlier sequels of the original 1995 hit detective movie.
“I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. We’re really close, script just came in,” Smith said of “I Am Legend 2” at one of the festival’s In Conversation events. “You have to be a real ‘I...

Almost every year, there is at least one performer who finally takes home that elusive Oscar. In 2022, Jessica Chastain won for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” after two prior nominations, and, in 2020, Joaquin Phoenix prevailed for “Joker” after three previous bids. Expect this year to be no different — we have a whole crew searching for their first Oscar wins after years of nominations, near-misses, or just plain being snubbed. Here are a so far unlucky seven contenders who could break that curse this year and win long overdue Oscars. (We’ve updated this post to include Ryan Gosling after his absence was pointed out by several readers.)

Almost all of the Best Actor winners at this century’s 22 Academy Awards ceremonies have ticked at least one of these two boxes: they were over 40 or portraying a real-life fellow. The only exceptions: Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”) and Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”) who were 36 and 39 respectively when they won for playing fictional characters.
In 2023, Brendan Fraser, 54, won for his heartbreaking performance in “The Whale.” The year before saw Will Smith, 53, prevail for portraying tennis coach Richard Williams in “King Richard.” In 2021, Anthony Hopkins became the oldest Best Actor champ ever at age 83 when he won for “The Father.” At the 2020 Oscars, Joaquin Phoenix was 45 when he picked up the Best Actor Oscar for “Joker.” And in 2019, 37-year-old Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) triumphed for his riveting portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Blade Runner is the latest big-budget product to announce changes to its shooting schedule this year, with the TV series no longer set to be filmed in Northern Ireland.
The BBC reports that the series titled Blade Runner 2099, commissioned by streamer Amazon Video with original film director Ridley Scott on board as an executive producer, was due to be filmed on location in Belfast, based out of Belfast Harbour Studios. Filming on the series was previously delayed due to the actors and writers’ strike.
While the reason for the change remains unclear, the chief executive of Northern Ireland Screen Richard Williams has expressed his disappointment in a statement:

Near the top of the list of the most famous actors on Earth over the last four decades, sits Will Smith. Since his breakout in the 1990s, the multitalented star has conquered the music industry, television comedy with NBC’s “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and blockbuster movies thanks to “Independence Day” and the “Bad Boys” and “Men in Black” franchises. A new documentary about Richard Williams, the father of tennis greats Serena and Venus Williams, has sold into major markets.
“On the Line: The Richard Williams Story,” which had its U.K. premiere at Sheffield Doc/Fest in June, has been sold into Sky (U.K. and Italy), Canal+ (France), Mnet (South Africa), Paramount+ (Australia) and Tvnz (New Zealand).
The film paints a complex portrait of the life, career and impact of Williams — the family patriarch and tennis coach to Venus and Serena Williams, who was also portrayed by Will Smith in the 2022 movie “King Richard.”
In the documentary, Williams provides rare home video footage and candid interviews to detail the family’s unprecedented gate-crashing in the 1990s of a predominately white, upper-class sport. Newly discovered archival footage from the courts in Compton and a roster of interview subjects including Billie Jean King and Pam Shriver, retrace the Williams sisters...

Coco Gauff has worked with her father Corey Gauff for much of her career but she's also had other coaches with the most recent one being Pere Riba.
The former Spanish player was once a Top 100 ranked player but never really achieved anything spectacular in his career. He pivoted to coaching following his early retirement and he's been really good at the job, so good that Gauff elected to try him out.
The American announced that she's going to work with Riba for the grass season much like she worked with Patrick Mouratoglou during the clay season. Being an attendee of his Academy allowed Gauff to enlist the help of the experienced coach though his commitment to Rune and contract with Simona Halep prevent him to assume full coaching duties. He continues to serve as a mentor for Gauff .

Fremantle has unveiled a trailer for documentary feature “On the Line: The Richard Williams Story,” which will have its U.K. premiere at Sheffield DocFest.

Kansas guitarist Rich Williams joined the band known for its rotating roster in 1972. He’s one of the few among his bandmates to stick around since the early days, ensuring he crossed paths with dozens of incredible musicians over the decades. As it turns out, a particular music legend stuck out more than others.

No matter how much time passes, "Blade Runner" consistently holds up as not just one of Harrison Ford's best films, but one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. Forty years after Ridley Scott's 1982 masterpiece debuted, it still feels fresh, relevant, and looks incredible.
Which is why you'd think Hollywood would have milked it for all its worth in the age of the legacy sequel and rampant nostalgia bait. The thing is, "Blade Runner" didn't make that much money at the box office, bringing in just shy of $40 million globally. In the decades since, the film gained a significant cult following, to the extent that Warner Bros. was tempted to try a "Blade Runner" revival with 2017's "Blade Runner 2049," — a movie far too good to be a box office hit. Which it wasn't. It underperformed, bringing in a respectable $258 million at the global box office but...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What are your winter holiday season viewing habits (that are not for work)? Do you have traditional go-to shows or movies? Are you looking forward to anything in particular?
Eric Deggans (@deggans), NPR
As I have written in the past, I’m not the kind of critic who loves holiday specials. Too often, they’re too hokey, too commercial, too weird (yes, Bill Murray, I still don’t get “A Very Murray Christmas”) or, in the case of countless Hallmark Channel movies, way too white. But I do have a few holiday media traditions, starting with my Spotify Holiday Tunes playlist, which gets fired up as...
