Five Nights at Freddy’s is spooking up a record on Peacock.
The horror film, which opened in theaters and debuted on the streamer on October 27, has become Peacock’s most-watched film or series ever in its first five days on the streaming platform.
It surpasses Halloween Ends, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bel-Air and The Best Man: The Final Chapters for the honor, according to NBCUniversal.
The company is also touting Five Nights at Freddy’s as the most-watched entertainment title across all genres since its debut and the biggest opening ever for a film on Peacock through five days.
As is typical, NBCUniversal did not release actual data to support this. The film may appear on the Nielsen streaming charts next month, depending on how well it holds up against other streaming properties in its first few weeks.

Blumhouse’s feature take of video game Five Nights at Freddy’s is going theatrical day and date with Peacock on Oct. 27 this year. The pic will go wide.
This is the fourth Blumhouse movie to day and date with Universal’s streaming service after Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends, and Firestarter.
While arguments can be made that these movies’ domestic ticket sales were impacted by their availability in homes, Halloween Ends opened to $40M, then shorted out at $64M. Uni had bragging rights that the threequel scored a top Nielsen debut over its opening weekend of Oct. 14-16 with 717 million minutes viewed.
Halloween Kills grossed $92M stateside after a $49.4M opening. Both Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends were under the pre-pandemic domestic grosses of the first 2018 reboot. Firestarter flamed out at the box office, making only $9.7M U.S./Canada, $15M WW.

Laurie Strode's last stand will play out on Peacock the same day it hits theaters.
Universal Pictures, Miramax, and Blumhouse’s Halloween Ends, the final installment of the most acclaimed, revered horror franchise in film history, will debut as Peacock’s Halloween movie event Friday, October 14, day-and-date of its theatrical release.
The move follows in the footsteps of Halloween Kills, which launched on Peacock and in theaters on the same date in 2021.
Granted, that move was in response to Covid-19, but the flick went on to generate a decent amount of money at the box office.
It was significantly lower than its predecessor, but it likely helped boost Peacock subscribers.
"This is Laurie Strode’s last stand," the logline for Halloween Ends reads.

With The Black Phone now available on VOD and Blu-ray, as well as streaming on Peacock, the film’s box office run is behind us, Scott Derrickson‘s latest scaring up 152.8 million worldwide this year. The movie’s production budget was only 18 million, so needless to say the Joe Hill adaptation has proven to be a massive hit for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse.
One smash hit success for the horror genre typically results in a sequel, so can we expect The Black Phone 2 in the near future? At the very least, conversations have taken place.
Derrickson tells ComicBook.com, “There’s already a lot of conversation, a lot of pressure being put on it. I mean, the movie cost 18 million, and it’s going to ultimately make probably 160-170 million worldwide. So they want another one. Of course, they do.”
Universal and Blumhouse may be hungry to get The Black Phone 2 in the can,...

The only thing you need to know about the first trailer for “Halloween Ends” is that it begins in typical slasher movie style as the camera follows series baddie Michael Myers. Breaking into a house and clearly planning to do more murders, he’s taken by surprise when on the other side of a bedroom door waits O.G. final girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), revolver in hand and ready to blast him.
Really, that’s it. If you’re not already sold, call the coroner because you’re probably dead.
Billed as the terrifying conclusion to the horror franchise, the film promises “a final confrontation unlike any captured onscreen before” as Laurie and Michael fight to the death.

Universal/Blumhouse’s Black Phone will now be answered by moviegoers in the summer. The studio is pushing the Ethan Hawke horror thriller from Feb. 4, 2022 to June 24, 2022. Uni already had the date blocked off for an untitled Blumhouse movie.
The pic will be up against Warner Bros.’ Baz Luhrmann movie Elvis. Sony’s Where the Crawdads Sings recently departed the summer date.
Black Phone leaves behind Lionsgate’s Moonfall and Paramount’s Jackass Forever on Feb. 4.
Scott Derrickson directs and co-wrote Black Phone with C. Robert Cargill off Joe Hill’s short story from his New York Times bestseller 20th Century Ghosts.
The Black Phone follows a 13-year old boy, who after being abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement, starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer’s previous victims.
The film is produced by Derrickson & Cargill’s Crooked Highway and presented by Universal and Blumhouse.

Blumhouse’s upcoming horror film starring Ethan Hawke has delayed its release to summer 2022.
Originally scheduled for Feb. 4, “The Black Phone” will now hit theaters on June 24. Directed by Scott Derrickson, “The Black Phone” follows a 13-year-old boy named Finney Shaw who is kidnapped by a killer and taken to a soundproof basement where no one can hear his screams. According to the film’s logline, “When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”
Hawke stars as the aforementioned killer in what a press release calls “the most terrifying role of his career,” with Mason Thames making his feature debut as Finney. Derrickson, the writer-director behind “Sinister” and Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” also produced and co-wrote the film.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have selected Jan. 28, 2022 for the release of Scott Derrickson’s next movie The Black Phone. Uni already had the date on hold for a Blumhouse title, and this is the one.
