The famed star of stage and screen, Carole Cook, has died of heart failure at the age of 98. Born Mildred Francis Cook, the actor was given the stage name Carole by her longtime friend and mentor Lucille Ball and it stuck for her entire 60-year career.
Starting in the late 1950s, Cook was a staple on television, appearing on shows like "U.S. Marshalls," "The Lucy Show," "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis," "McMillan & Wife," "Maude," "Baretta," "Charlie's Angels," "Kojak," "The Love Boat," "Murder, She Wrote," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Dynasty," to name but a small sampling of her credits list.
She was almost as prolific on the stage as she was on television, appearing in a ton of big-name shows. She notably was the second actor to fill in for the role of Dolly Levi in "Hello, Dolly!" after Carol Channing and appeared in shows on and off Broadway...

Carole Cook, a protege of Lucille Ball who would become a familiar face through appearances on Ball’s TV shows, movies like The Incredible Mr. Limpet and Sixteen Candles and stage musicals 42nd Street and Romantic Comedy, died today of heart failure in Beverly Hills, California, just three days before her 99th birthday.
Her death was announced by husband Tom Troupe.
Born Mildred Frances Cook in Abilene, Texas, Cook made her Broadway debut as a replacement in 1954’s Threepenny Opera. After moving to Los Angeles, she became a favorite of Ball’s, who suggested the name spelling of Carole in honor of movie star Carole Lombard. “Like her, you have the same healthy disrespect for all things in general,” Ball told Cook.
Cook would subsequently make guest appearances on Ball’s sitcoms The Lucy Show and Here’s Lucy. The two remained life-long friends, with Ball serving as matron-of-honor at Cook’s 1964 wedding to Troupe.

If you needed a reason to feel totally old today, here's one that will do just that—but also make you smile. Maggie Elizabeth Jones, the actress who stole our hearts while acting alongside Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson in the 2011 film We Bought a Zoo, is all grown up and has begun her journey as a freshman in college. In a TikTok posted on July 16, Maggie shared a throwback photo of herself in Auburn University sweatpants before cutting to some modern-day snaps on the campus. Her sweet montage, which was captioned "See you soon @auburnuofficial," featured a photo-op with the Auburn University mascot and of course a photo at the football stadium. The glimpses into this...

Exclusive: Terrence Terrell (Giants) is set as a series regular in CBS’ new Chuck Lorre-Marco Pennette multi-camera comedy series B Positive, headlined by Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford.
Created by Pennette, B Positive is about a therapist and newly divorced dad (Middleditch) who is faced with finding a kidney donor when he runs into a rough-around-the-edges woman from his past (Ashford) who volunteers her own. Together they form an unlikely bond and begin a journey that will change both of their lives.
Terrell will play Eli, a friendly, outgoing professional football player for the Seahawks. A ladies man with a bit of an ego – he’s not shy about flashing his Super Bowl ring. After too many hits to the body on the field, Eli finds himself in need of a new kidney. His spirit isn’t crushed, however, partly because he’s in denial about his career coming to an end.

Did the latest New Girl feel like the penultimate episode of a season? Nope. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. I’ve gotten some heat (not of the Winston variety) this year for being a demanding recapper. Apparently wanting forward momentum from a sitcom is too much to ask. Well, “Dance” didn’t really advance the plot, but I still found it charming. It had solid one-liners and independent, yet appropriate antics for each character. All that plus a song about eatin’ ‘nanas in the dark and plenty of dance-ready tunes. That’s enough for me! But was it enough for you?...

Yes, it’s that time of year, kids. Before the official “Upfronts” get started next week, the networks are making the dreaded “sorry, but” phone calls to showrunners and pilot productions who didn’t make the cut, followed by the “hey guess what?!!” calls to those shows and series that are amongst the chosen to be on the network’s future schedules.
We now have a happy surprise, two disappointments, and a lot of good news on the pilot scene from The CW camp. First, a quick reminder for those of you with short memories, and to stave off the panic: The Vampire Diaries, Arrow, and Supernatural were already picked up for fall, as we told you back in February.
The happy surprise: Nikita has been picked up for another season, as has Beauty and the Beast. The disappointment: The Selection and Gothica will not move on to series level.

The CW is racking up with more dramas for the Fall season, and so are showrunners Julie Plec and Greg Berlanti. As if the two aren't busy another with The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Arrow already, the duo's The Tomorrow People has now been added to the list. Three other dramas that The CW have ordered also include Reign, The 100, and Star-Crossed, which was formerly Oxygen--a name we wish they stuck with.
With renewals and cancellations coming in heavy Thursday afternoon, it seems as though The CW may be coming out as one of the strongest compared to other networks.
Check out some more details on the four newest shows to hit your lineup next season:

And upfronts madness continues! The CW has announced official pickups for four of its new pilots, joining "Vampire Diaries" spin-off "The Originals" on its schedule. The network, which kept many of its returning series on this year, was expected to pick up a total of five.
First up, they picked up "The Tomorrow People," from fan favorite executive producers Julie Plec ("The Vampire Diaries") and Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "Brothers and Sisters"). Starring Robbie Amell (the cousin of CW leading man Stephen Amell) as a troubled teenage boy who discovers that he has psychic powers, the series is written and executive produced by "Chuck's" Phil Klemmer. Peyton List, Luke Mitchell, and Aaron Yu also star.

Amy Aquino (Being Human) rounds out the cast of ABC‘s multi-camera comedy pilot Divorce: A Love Story, from Sony TV and ABC Studios. Based on an Israeli format, Divorce centers on Kenny (Jason Jones) and Robin (Andrea Anders), a recently divorced couple who were bad together but discover they’re even worse apart and can’t seem to stay out of each others’ lives. Aquino, repped by Greene & Assoc. and manager Randy James, will play Kenny’s overbearing mother whose obsession in life is to see Kenny and Robin back together. Comedian Seaton Smith rounds out the cast of another comedy pilot, NBC’s John Mulaney project. Written/exec produced by Mulaney and exec produced by Robert Carlock and Lorne Michaels, the comedy is a young ensemble focused on John (Mulaney), whose naïve and often pointles, desire to “be a good person” challenges his friendship with his roommates, Jane...

Last week, Fox decided to pull Ben and Kate from the schedule with no immediate plans to bring it back. One of the co-stars and the show's creator indicated that the sitcom had been cancelled.
On Friday, production on Ben and Kate was shut down for good. The network had ordered 19 episodes but only 15 of them have been produced. Fox has aired 13 installments and it's unclear if or when the final two will air.
Ben and Kate revolves around a dreamer brother (Nat Faxon) who moves in his practical single mother sister (Dakota Johnson). The rest of the cast includes Lucy Punch, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, and Echo Kellum.
The series debuted in October to a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.21 million viewers. The ratings fell in subsequent weeks, hitting a low of a 1.1...

Strange things happen when you bring together a bunch of comedy actors. Fortunately, those things are usually hilarious. This was indeed the case during the Fox TCA winter press tour panel celebrating the network's Tuesday-night comedy block. Stars from "New Girl," "Raising Hope," "Ben and Kate" and "The Mindy Project" were on hand to inform and entertain.
What did they say? Here are some of the funny and interesting we learned from these insane people.
"Kevin Bacon's coming back out." -- Ike Barinholtz ("The Mindy Project") when reporters did not immediately have questions for the panel"He's like Raging Bull, and you're like Bull from 'Night Court.'" -- Mindy Kaling to Barinholtz, comparing him to their "Mindy Project" co-star Chris MessinaThe much-discussed product placement for Ford in the "Models" episode of "New Girl" was not actually conceived that way. The episode was written before Ford signed on.

"Ben and Kate" returns from its midwinter hiatus with "B Squad," an episode that takes a completely not serious look at the issues facing our education system these days. Also, someone steals the idea for a really, really awful food-industry business.
The videos start out with the least-fun playdate ever experienced by young children. Studying, however, may be a necessary thing if Maddie's (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) friend Norman doesn't know the difference between a vowel and a number.
Fortunately, the "fun" and "games" of studying are interrupted by the non-test persona of Ben (Nat Faxon).
Would a bunk-bed pizza really be like a sleepover in your mouth? Mostly it just sounds messy.Apparently, Kate (Dakota Johnson) has never told Maddie anything about her father. That does seem a bit odd. Even if he (literally) ran away.Considering their ages, there might not have been a gifted program when Ben and Kate were in school.

The cute freshman Fox series, Ben and Kate, now has a cute and familiar actress coming in for a multi-episode guest role. She’s Brittany Snow and you may just remember her performances on Pitch Perfect and American Dreams. Snow also sang songs for Hairspray, acted on Harry’s Law, and portrayed the younger version of Kelly Rutherford’s Lily for Gossip Girl‘s all ’80s episode on the CW network.
In her arc, Snow will play a love interest for actor Echo Kellum’s character, Tommy, on the set of Ben and Kate. Those adorable blue eyes were matched with an adorable meet-cute. Tommy and Snow’s character meet while she’s walking her dog. It’s a terrier to be exact, according to E!.

[The following reviews were written before Hurricane Sandy cruelly confiscated Alan's power for a yet-to-be-determined, but still-ongoing duration.] It's evening round-up time, with quick review of tonight's episodes of "Ben and Kate," "New Girl" and "Happy Endings," coming up just as soon as I have a mustache glued on top of my mustache... "Scaredy Kate" was probably the most laugh-out-loud installment of "Ben and Kate" so far, an episode that really played to the strengths of its cast: Dakota Johnson being socially awkward, Lucy Punch being inappropriate with Maggie Jones, and Echo Kellum and Nat Faxon being goofy (and, in this...

One of the fall season.s big success stories is "Ben and Kate," which has been renewed for a full second season. It.s an innovative camera comedy about a brother and sister living together in Los Angeles starring Academy Award®-winning writer*/actor Nat Faxon, Dakota Johnson and as the little girl, Maggie Elizabeth Jones. Their happy home is the drop in spot of choice for Ben.s ex (Lucy Punch) and his best friend (Echo Kellum). The show.s original premise about siblings living together, dares not to pair them up romantically with the best friend and ex, which would be the obvious choice. It.s a refreshing departure from Sitcom 101. We spoke with Nat Faxon who plays Ben, in...

Trick or treat? That's what Kate (Dakota Johnson) will find out on Tuesday's Halloween episode of Ben and Kate (airing at 8:30/7:30c on Fox), when she decides to abandon her typically conservative attitude towards the holiday — i.e. dressing her daughter Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) up as young historical figures — at the encouragement of her flirtatious friend Bj (Lucy Punch). Responsible mom Kate even gets into the Halloween spirit herself, accepting an invitation from her cute neighbor to attend a costume party at his house — and not being shy about showing her interest in him when she arrives.

The next time you’re watching Ben and Kate‘s Nat Faxon getting his bumbling character into another onscreen scrape, keep this in the back of your mind: The man is an Oscar-winning screenwriter.
Yup, he took home a statuette for last year’s The Descendants – but more on that later. The point is, Faxon’s versatility is a big reason why he’s the star of Fox’s winsome comedy, which Monday received an additional six-episode pickup. And as it turns out, he’s a humble guy who just really wants you to keep tuning in.

Every year, a slew of shows fight for our attention… and sometimes, it’s easy to overlook the individuals who stand out among the sea of faces washing across our television screens. Let’s take a minute to get a little better acquainted with some of the people we think will be making a big impression in the coming weeks!
Who he is: Andrew Rannells of NBC’s The New Normal.
What put him on our radar: A star-making turn in the Broadway smash Book of Mormon.
Why he’s a big deal: Let’s put it this way… creator Ryan Murphy hand-picked Rannells for Normal. Our guess? he was blinded by that smile that just lights up the room. The love child of Jon Hamm and Seth MacFarlane, Rannells has that rare mix of humor and heart that audiences will love.
Who she is: Maggie Elizabeth Jones of Fox’s Ben & Kate.

Last week, I ran my interview with "Ben and Kate" stars Nat Faxon and Dakota Johnson, plus scene-stealer Maggie Jones. "I've never met anyone like you before." Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled the first official trailer for Jon Kasdan's The First Time, a very charming, amusing, endearing, entertaining coming-of-age indie comedy about two teens falling in love, and having sex, for their first time. Fox's first new sitcom of the season, Ben and Kate, debuted last night. How did it do in the ratings? Was it a a Running Wilde kind of flop or another New Girl-style success?

Fox's first new sitcom of the fall season, Ben and Kate, premieres tonight and the network has sandwiched it between episodes of New Girl. Is this new TV series worth your time or should it be cancelled and moved quickly to the TV graveyard?
Ben and Kate revolves around two very different adult siblings. Ben is a free spirit and screw up while Kate is very straight-laced and responsible. He moves in to help take care of her daughter and to help Kate loosen up a bit. She meanwhile helps get him a little more grounded. The sitcom stars Dakota Johnson, Nat Faxon, Lucy Punch, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, and Echo Kellum.

While Fox has the market cornered on quirky ladies ("New Girl," "The Mindy Project"), it's also got itself a nice lineup of quirky family comedies too ("Raising Hope," the entire Sunday night Animation Domination lineup). With "Ben and Kate," the network has combined the two genres into one adorable sitcom.
The debut episode featured our single mom, Kate (Dakota Johnson) and her wayward, young-at-heart brother, Ben (Nat Faxon) reuniting in their childhood home to raise Kate's young daughter, Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones), together. The family unit has great chemistry together, and we genuinely like them right away (which means we're rooting for them).
Related: "Ben and Kate" and more of fall's must-see new shows
Adding another layer of fun are Lucy Punch and Echo Kellum as Kate and Ben's friends. Both are wacky yet grounded enough to be relatable -- great foils for Ben and Kate and Maddie.

Fox might have missed the boat by calling its Tuesday night New Girl follow-up Ben and Kate. The network should have considered calling the latter New Guy, because it shares New Girl’s belief that spacey, immature adults with zero impulse control are free-spirited, liberating life forces rather than deeply annoying and possibly disturbed. That sounds curmudgeonly, granted, but Ben and Kate is enjoyable enough if you don’t mind a severe case of the cutes. Created by screenwriter Dana Fox (What Happens in Vegas), this semi-autobiographical comedy is about the relationship between a bar manager and single mom named Kate (Dakota Johnson, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith’s daughter) and her nomadic man-child brother, Ben (Nat Faxon, Oscar-winning co-writer of The Descendants). Ben suddenly reappears in Kate’s life to help her raise her adorable 5-year-old daughter, Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones), and stalk an ex-girlfriend and crash her wedding.
