Arrow was the first serious approach to superheroics based on the DC Universe in quite some time. There was little risk picking a second tier character that some but not many may have known about. Producer Greg Berlanti assembled a team consisting of Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg to sift through nearly 70 years of Green Arrow material and figure out how to turn it into a weekly series for the CW.
Once they figured out it was a story of redemption, of Oliver Queen’s journey from spoiled rich kid to a man avenging his father’s death and maturing into the man he was intended to be, they hit pay dirt. The series was rich with nods to the Dcu and the adaptations from the source material served to make the show strong and fascinating.

A press release went out this week announcing the new comic book publishing division of Famous Monsters! We are incredibly excited about this development and hope our readers will follow us to the paneled page.
March 3, 2015. Los Angeles, CA: Famous Monsters, the world’s longest-running entertainment fan magazine (est. 1958), announces that in 2015 it will expand its publishing division into original comic books.
Far from being a departure, comics have long been a part of FM’s history. In the 60s and 70s, the magazine shared the Warren imprint alongisde several monumentally influential black and white imprints: Creepy, Eerie, and founding FM Editor Forrest J Ackerman’s very own Vampirella. In recent years, FM has dedicated multiple pages of every issue to articles about current comic book creators and their projects. The comic medium is naturally conducive to Sci-Fi, fantasy, horror, and all the themes that Famous Monsters prides itself in covering.

She’s been seen on screens big and small in the likes of Skins, Gossip Girl and The Immigrant, but Sofia Black-D’Elia is preparing to take a step into blockbuster territory, securing the role of Tirzah in Ben-Hur.Taken once again from Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel, the new version aims to chronicle the younger days of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston) and Messala (Toby Kebbell), best friends growing up in Jerusalem. Ben-Hur is a Jewish prince and Messala the son of a Roman tax collector who is packed off to be educated in Rome for five years. Upon his return, Messala mocks our hero for his religion. After an accident he pins on his friend, he has him sold into slavery, while imprisoning his mother and sister (a role that Olivia Cooke was circling until recently, but that Black-D’Elia will now fill). Cue a quest for revenge...

This year’s Blood List has named the 13 best genre scripts around town, and in its sixth year the annual screenplay contest is expanding its scope to include hot books, TV pilots, and young scribes ripe for signing. Taking top honors in 2014 is sci-fi thriller Bird Box from The Thing and Final Destination 5 scribe Eric Heisserer, an apocalyptic tale of a woman trying to lead her children to safety – all three blindfolded – after monsters descend on earth that turn people insane on sight. Universal set Heisserer to adapt the manuscript from Josh Malerman in 2013 for Mama helmer Andy Muschietti. Previous Blood List alumni include Black Swan, Stoker, Warm Bodies, and the upcoming Blumhouse thriller The Boy Next Door.
Like the Black List naming the top unproduced screenplays circulating around Hollywood, the genre-focused Blood List taps exec votes to determine each year’s best unmade horror, sci-fi, and thriller scripts.

The first Dlc for Dark Souls II, Crown of the Sunken King, has probably landed by the time you read this, and accompanying it is a huge update that fixes and tweaks a massive range of features.
You can see the full list below (and it's some list), but highlights include a limit to the amount of souls a player can earn whilst fighting invaders, and the removal of healing abilities during any form of PvP, a common annoyance for those who follow Dark Souls' community created honour system of no healing during a fight.
A good portion of the update deals with balancing, making changes to weapons damage, armour effectiveness, and spells. Some items have been changed too, such as the very handy Gower's Ring of Protection, which has been weakened,...

This is a Cheeky, Raucous, Irreverent film that will make most warm-blooded mammals laugh from the first scene, until the last! It is brilliant for a summer night out!
If you are a film or music fan, you most likely have already seen “A Hard Day’s Night” before, however, make a summertime date with the famous Fab Four, and see it again on the big screen, with the new restoration, at an art house cinema, and you really can’t go wrong.
It is necessary to give accolades to the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, because, “if it weren’t for Elvis, there would never have been any Beatles.” John Lennon had admitted, that from the moment he first learned about Elvis and saw all the attention that he was receiving, he wanted to be just like him.
So although, there is no denying that the Beatles changed music forever, it was really Elvis who was the King of their inspiration.
For those who have not seen “A Hard Day’s Night” before, the Beatles had already been a popular recording act, with several Top 20 hits in the U.K., when they arrived in NYC to perform on the Ed Sullivan show on February 7, 1964. A record breaking 73 million viewers tuned in, and the British invasion began.
One month later, across the pond, the film was in the works. The music lover and film producer, Walter Shenson, was brought on by United Artists. Shenson, who had previously worked with Director, Richard Lester, on “The Mouse on the Moon,” mentioned the gist of the project, and Richard jumped at the opportunity.
However, to receive the final green light, the film had to be true to the way the Beatles actually lived, and scriptwriter, Alun Owen, who wrote the television play, “No Trams to Lime Street,” which depicted Liverpool, was chosen.
The film begins with the song “A Hard Day’s Night” playing while the Fab Four are running through town trying to make it to the train station on time before their train departs. Once on board, they start a conversation with an older gentleman, who Paul comments, is his grandfather. John is cheekily trying to snort a Coke (Coca-Cola) bottle up his nose in the background, and a business man wants the train car his way demanding that the windows be closed shut. The laughs just continue from there on out, when the boys are flirting with girls, and the grandfather cunningly tells the young women that the boys are really prisoners. An acoustic version of “I Should Have Known Better” is being played on the train.
Film director, Richard Lester, “relied on improvisation rather than rehearsal, creating a freshness that was clear on-screen.” “Before we started, we knew that it would be unlikely that they could (a) learn, (b) remember, or (c) deliver with any accuracy a long speech. So the structure of the script had to be a series of one-liners,” Lester later stated, “This enabled me, in many of the scenes, to turn a camera on them and say a line to them, and they would say it back to me.”
The result, the bandmates play brilliant, clever, crafty, and smart-alicky versions of themselves.
Lester’s visual style mixed techniques from narrative films, documentary, the French New Wave, and live television to create something that felt, and was, spontaneous. “I have seen directors who write down a list of scenes for the day, and then sit back in a chair while everything is filmed according to plan. I can’t do that. I know that good films can be made this way, but it’s not for me. I have to react on the spot. There was very little structure that was planned except that we knew that we had to punctuate the film with a certain number of songs.”
Recorded at Emi Studios in Abbey Road, London, they cut “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “And I Love Her,” “I Should Have Known Better,” “Tell Me Why,” “If I Fell,” and “I’m Happy Just to Dance with You,” in only three days.

In the years I’ve been writing these rants I don’t think I’ve ever written about love.
I’ve written about sex many times but not love. I’ve always wanted to write about love but somehow never got around to it. Funny-perhaps I thought love and sex was the same thing.
Is that why I have not written about love? Have I, all these years simply assumed that love and sex were one?
Gethefuckoutofhere!
Anybody that assumes sex is love I’m willing to bet has an appointment every week that begins with being asked about their relationship with their mother or father and ends with being told their hour is up.
You may love sex but sex is not love. Trust me on this; I’m a doctor.
I’ve been in love. I suck at it. I’ve had sex. I’m pretty good at that.

Gamers, rejoice! I know it took many months, if not years to recover from Elijah Wood’s tragic exit from gaming as we know it – what, you didn’t know? This is the man who hosted 2005′s timeless, classic gaming program, MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed! Mixing Frodo with Kameo: Elements of Power was essentially my wildest, sexiest dream brought to life, and since that day nothing in the entire industry (or universe) has ever really excited me. That is, until now. Elijah Wood. Is back. And he’s voice acting for Double Fine’s Broken Age.
The news comes via this evening’s Vgx awards on Spike, and like most Double Fine-related info it was relayed by lead design guy Tim Schafer. Wood’s voice work will assist in bringing the game’s male protagonist Shay to life, and further fleshes out a surprisingly start-studded voice cast...

The blonde beauty looks absolutely stunning in not one but two fabulous frocks for one fun, (and fashionable!), night. Vote on which look you liked better.
Taylor Swift swapped her fiery red Elie Saab gown from the Cma Awards on Nov. 6 for something less dramatic when she moved from the show to the party — and she certainly had a lot to celebrate that night! While we loved both her looks, we’re having such a hard time deciding which one we like better!
Taylor Swift’s Cma Dress:
The trend-savvy songstress slipped into a glamorous gown from the Elie Saab Fall/Winter 2013 Haute Couture collection for the special occasion. Michael Bay has found the two leads for the found footage time travel film he’s producing, Almanac. Any guesses on what film inspired that title?
He has tabbed Jonny Weston (Chasing Mavericks, John Dies At The End) and Sofia Black-D’Elia (Skins, Gossip Girl) to tackle the lead roles. The movie will be directed by Dean Israelite from a script by Andrew Stark and Jason Pagan.

Sofia Black-d'Elia and Jonny Weston have entered negotiations for Michael Bay's Almanac.
The pair are in line to star in Paramount Pictures' found footage time travel movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bay is producing the project under his Platinum Dunes banner with partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.
Few details of the project have been revealed, but it is believed to centre around the creation of a time machine.
Black-D'Elia starred in the short-lived Us Skins and had a recurring role in Gossip Girl. She also tested for the female lead in Bay's Transformers 4.
Weston is best known for his starring role opposite Gerard Butler in Chasing Mavericks.
Rival found footage time travel Glimmer is in development at DreamWorks. The film recently cast Shameless star Jeremy Allen White.
Dean Israelite will direct Almanac, which is scheduled to begin shooting in the summer.

Charlie Brooker's sci-fi suspense series returns in style with Be Right Back. Here's Ryan's review of the first in a new season...
2.1 Be Right Back
First broadcast in late 2011, Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror trilogy of suspense dramas - loosely connected by their satirical humour and concerns about current and future technology - were refreshingly sharp, concise and well-made.
Just over a year later, Black Mirror's back, and once again provides a bleak reflection of modern life. What's surprising about the opening episode Be Right Back, though, is how subtle and low-key it is. Where the first series opened with a porcine relations bang - a button-pushing hour of drama designed to get audiences talking - Be Right Back brings with it a sombre tone more akin to the final episode of the last season, The Entire History Of You - the closing chapter written not by Brooker,...

Exclusive: Justified‘s Timothy Olyphant is set to star opposite Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard, Richard Jenkins, and Jennifer Carpenter in Bone Tomahawk. That film is described as a brutally violent horror-Western that will serve as the feature directorial debut of S. Craig Zahler. Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller are producing through their Caliber Media Co. banner. Production is slated for a spring 2013 start in New Mexico. In Bone Tomahawk, four men attempt to rescue a group of captives from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes that live beyond the edge of civilization. Turner Classic Movies will soon have a showcase for some of Johnny Carson's classic celebrity interviews.

Brian Dennehy will appear in the final season of The Big C as Cathy's father. Considering how Cathy has had cancer for three seasons and we're only now meeting him, I expect he'll be as awful as the rest of the Jamison clan has turned out to be.

The Amazing Spider-man in 3D
3D Blu-Ray/Blu-Ray/DVD + Ultraviolet Digital Copy
2012/Rated PG-13/Running Time 136 mins – List Price: $55.99
It was time for a change. Despite the fact that many fans hoped director Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures would work out their differences to produce a fourth Spider-man feature, the studio decided to go another way, rebooting the franchise completely. When Spider-man opened ten years ago in the Spring of 2002, it was a bit of a surprise that after 25 years in developmental hell, audiences strongly craved to see the famous comic book superhero on the big screen more than any other. Becoming the first film to gross $100 million in a single weekend, its box-office success proved that not only was it worth the wait, but fans had finally got the proper Spider-man film they’d been waiting decades for.
