This holiday season is one where the offspring of iconic Hollywood families come together, apparently.
“Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point,” which is set to debut in the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes, stars Francesca Scorsese and Sawyer Spielberg, two film stars in their own rite who hail from respective auteurs Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
Decade-plus indie staple Michael Cera leads the latest feature directed by Tyler Taormina; Cera also produces the ensemble family dramedy that marks Taormina’s follow-up to his 2019 coming-of-age comedy “Ham on Rye.”
Set during one Christmas Eve, a family gathers for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. As the night wears on and generational tensions arise, one of the teenagers sneaks out with her friends to claim the wintry suburb for her own, per the official synopsis. Cera is seen donning a cop uniform in one of the first look images,...

Variety held their annual Power of Women event Thursday, May 2 at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, in New York City. Honorees included Anitta, Mariska Hargitay, Shonda Rhimes, and Amy Schumer, along with presenters that included Glenn Close, Bela Bajaria, Bruna Marquezine, and Sascha Seinfeld.
IndieWire caught up with Francesca Scorsese, who’s featured as an “Up Next” talent in Variety’s issue, on the event’s red carpet, where she reflected on working with Luca Guadagnino in HBO’s 2020 limited series “We Are Who We Are.” “He’s the most amazing, sweetest guy. Very eccentric, but that’s the best part about him,” Scorsese said. “It was really cool because I got to experience another filmmaker. You know what I mean? I grew up being on my dad’s film sets and seeing his directing style and just like literally just like living in that world.”

Martin Scorsese recently attended the 96th Academy Awards as his film Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated in 10 categories at the event. The director came with his daughter Francesca Scorsese and the cast of his film to represent the film at the prestigious award ceremony. Lily Gladstone was their best shot at nabbing an award for the night for Best Actress.

Martin Scorsese recently spoke at the Berlin Film Festival, where he discussed his upcoming movie chronicling the life of Jesus Christ.
The Jesus Christ movie could be Martin Scorsese’s next project, but the director is still in the process of figuring it out. “I’m contemplating it right now,” Scorsese said. “What kind of film I’m not quite sure, but I want to make something unique and different that could be thought-provoking and I hope also entertaining. I’m not quite sure yet how to go about it.“
Once the awards tour for Killers of the Flower Moon is behind him, Scorsese hopes to resume work on the project. “Maybe I’ll get some sleep and then wake up and I’ll have this fresh idea of how to do it,” he said. While it seems like there’s still a lot to do before the project moves forward,...

"The Earthlings must be stopped, we must make contact." Did you catch this commercial during the Super Bowl over the weekend? If not, watch it below - including the extended 90-second version of the TV ad. The website Squarespace commissioned the master filmmaker Martin Scorsese (who is nominated for Best Director this year) and his TikTok sensation daughter Francesca Scorsese to create this very special New York City-based commercial for them to use as marketing. It features an alien invasion though the humans don't notice it, so the aliens decide to make a website (and beam it right to our devices) to get everyone's attention. "What does a highly advanced civilization have to do to get noticed around here?" View the full extended cut of Hello Down There, a tale of intergalactic outreach, directed by Martin Scorsese, below. It's wild they got Marty to make this! Most impressive. The spot...

Martin Scorsese is just trying to get around Manhattan…until aliens get in his way.
The Oscar winner and “Killers of the Flower Moon” 2024 Academy Award nominee directs and stars in short film “Hello Down There,” which will be televised during this year’s Super Bowl.
The logline reads: “What does a highly advanced civilization have to do to get noticed around here? Watch the extended cut of ‘Hello Down There,’ a tale of intergalactic outreach, directed by Martin Scorsese.”
The Squarespace ad is the second commercial for the brand involving Scorsese, with the auteur appearing alongside daughter Francesca Scorsese for a previously-released “making of” spot that showed the concept behind “Hello Down There.”
“A 30-second film is much harder because each scene is like a second, maybe?” Scorsese said in the commercial. “The main character happens to be a website. Now, the thing is, I don’t really know...

Martin Scorsese isn’t exactly known for his love of sports, once saying, “Anything with a ball, no good.” But he is now embracing the Super Bowl — well, a commercial, anyway. That’s right, Martin and his daughter Francesca Scorsese have their own Super Bowl commercial, leaning in to the TikTok videos that showed a (hip?) new side of Scorsese.
In the teaser for their upcoming Super Bowl ad for website maker Squarespace (which you can watch at the bottom of this article), Martin Scorsese is approached by Francesca while the maestro tries to develop a short film. One of the characters, he says, is a website…only Scorsese doesn’t know anything about them (or their character motivation). Throughout his epic, half-century-plus career there’s one genre Martin Scorsese hasn’t touched: the science-fiction film. However, for a new Super Bowl ad for Squarespace, the director and his daughter Francesca Scorsese have the genre on the mind. Ahead of the big game this Sunday, Squarespace has now dropped a four-minute teaser for the ad, directed by Scorsese himself. In the spot, we see the director contemplating his approach when it comes to creating a new short film about an “intergalactic plea for connection” in which a website is the main character. Considering this is billed as a “teaser” for the Super Bowl spot, check back Sunday to see what’s in store.

Martin Scorsese: elder statesman of film, our greatest living director, and surprise TikTok star. The latter classification comes courtesy of Scorsese's daughter Francesca, who has helped turn her famous dad into a viral sensation thanks to several videos in which the elder Scorsese appears befuddled by the modern world. I'm usually averse to these sorts of things and I'll freely admit the viral videos of Scorsese and his daughter are kind of adorable. The filmmaker comes across as a charming old man with sharp comedic timing, and he and his daughter play off each other nicely. Speaking with Vanity Fair, Francesca even indicates that she feels the viral videos helped bring younger audiences to Scorsese's latest picture, "Killers of the Flower Moon." "I feel like it definitely helped," she said, continuing:

Martin Scorsese and his daughter Francesca Scorsese are teaming up for something big…even if it is incredibly short.
The auteur and his filmmaker daughter are paired together for a Super Bowl 2024 Squarespace ad, during which Francesca teaches Martin how to build a website to inspire a faux short film with a meta twist of events.

He asks Francesca, “I need to sort of get inside the sense of what a website is.”

During the actors' strike, many directors were put front and center of their films' promotion, stepping into the place usually occupied by their stars. It's an understandable strategy, alright. Not long ago, an award-winning Polish composer who’d scored dozens of films approached Ula Śniegowska about U.S. in Progress, an industry event conceived as a bridge between the Polish and American markets that runs parallel to the American Film Festival in Wrocław, Poland.
“He approached me saying, ‘I’ve done enough in the Polish market. I need an introduction to the international market. Can you, as U.S. in Progress, help me?’” Śniegowska recalls. “It seems we are a perfect matchmaker for those types of companies to have their work exposed in the U.S.”
Celebrating its 13th edition, U.S. in Progress was launched as a showcase for emerging independent American filmmakers. Each year, the event presents a curated selection of American indie titles in the final stages of production to European sales agents, distributors and festival programmers. This year’s edition takes place Nov. 8 – 10.

Martin Scorsese put his awareness of Gen Z slang to the test in a hilarious new TikTok with his daughter Francesca.
The 80-year-old Hollywood icon recently filmed a TikTok with Francesca, 23, where she asked him to define modern slang terms such as “sneaky link,” “tea,” “hits different” and “slept on.”
How’d he do?
Head inside to watch Martin Scorsese show off his knowledge of modern slang…
Matin managed to get some of the terns correct, including “ick,” and “throw shade.”
Other words he was not sure about, and Francesca giggled while he gave them his best attempt.

Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese made another appearance on daughter Francesca Scorsese’s TikTok as the 23-year-old quizzed him on modern slang. Martin proved to be pretty savvy, nailing the definitions of “tea,” “ick,” “threw shade” and “hits different,” but there were a few terms he was asked about that he didn’t quite get, reports People magazine.
When asked about the definition of “sneaky link,” the director guessed, “These are personal peccadillos that you may have.” Francesca then explained it was more like a “booty call,” to which he replied, “We never used that term. We never saw specific people in my day.”
As per People magazine, the Oscar-winning director made his in-person debut on his daughter’s TikTok in April 2021, when she quizzed him on his knowledge of “feminine items.”

Exactly 40 years later, and Martin Scorsese is laughing about the poor reception to “The King of Comedy.”
The 1983-released film, which has been critically redeemed as one of the best movies of the decade, was used by Scorsese’s daughter Francesca Scorsese as an example to explain something being “slept on.” Francesca used “The King of Comedy” to teach Scorsese modern slang in a TikTok video.
“People hated it when it came out,” Scorsese said. “No, it was the flop of the year. That’s what it was called on Entertainment Tonight, New Year’s Eve ’83-’84. It’s Ok, it’s alright.”
The film followed wannabe stand-up comic Rupert Pupkin (Robert De Niro) who becomes obsessed with a late-night talk show host (Jerry Lewis) and kidnaps him for ransom. “The King of Comedy” directly influenced the 2019 Oscar-winning film “Joker,” which Scorsese executive produced. Both films starred De Niro.

In a new TikTok video that went viral late Thursday, “Killers of the Flower Moon” director Martin Scorsese was tasked by his daughter, the actress and filmmaker Francesca Scorsese, with defining some online slang – and defended his 1983 film “The King of Comedy” in the process.
In the playful video, one of many that Francesca Scorsese has posted alongside her Oscar-winning father, Martin Scorsese is asked to define terms like “ship,” “simp,” and “hits different.” When Francesca Scorsese asks her dad to define “slept on,” she uses “The King of Comedy” as an example to provide context.
“People hated it when it came out,” Martin Scorsese said in response. “It was the flop of the year. That’s what it was called on ‘Entertainment Tonight.’ On New Year’s Eve ’83-’84. It’s okay, it’s alright.”

Martin Scorsese has become TikTok famous thanks to his daughter — and his latest outing on the social media network features him getting to grips with internet slang.
Complete with a high-pitched voice effect, the decorated director was grilled on the meaning of Gen Z words during a five-minute video posted by Francesca Scorsese.
Scorsese knew what might give someone the “ick” and was able to explain why something “hits different,” but he struggled with phrases including “sneaky link” (a secret hookup) and “ship” (wishing for two people to enter a relationship).
There was also a couple of revealing moments about Scorsese’s work during the TikTok video. He pondered on how Lily Gladstone “ate” in Killers of the Flower Moon, his upcoming movie. “They use to say ‘ruled’ [the screen]. She did very well,” he said.

Actor Noah Centineo touched down at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend to rally support for Saeed Roustaee, an Iranian filmmaker sentenced to prison by his government over the latter’s film “Leila’s Brothers.”
Over Friday cocktails at festival headquarters, the TIFF Bell Lightbox, the “Black Adam” star appealed to top representatives from film festivals around the world on behalf of Roustaee, who was sentenced to six months in prison after screening his feature at the Cannes Film Festival without authorization from Iran’s culture ministry. Furthermore, he would not amend the film after the ministry requested corrections. He was formally charged with “anti-regime propaganda activity” and will be banned from directing for five years.

On Saturday, Martin Scorsese’s latest film, the highly-anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon, will have its world premiere out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival — but he is not the only Scorsese unveiling a new film at the fest.
Francesca Scorsese, the 23-year-old daughter of the legendary filmmaker and his wife Helen Morris, will screen her directorial debut Fish Out of Water — a 25-minute drama about a young woman struggling to raise her child while harboring resentment towards her formerly abusive father and fear about her declining mother — at 10:30am on Wednesday as part of the fest’s Cannes Short Film Corner market. It will then have its official world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 11.

Suspiria remake (watch it Here) director Luca Guadagnino’s horror film / cannibal love story Bones and All has received good reviews – it’s sitting at 82 positive on Rotten Tomatoes, and our own JimmyO gave the film an 8/10 review you can read at This Link. But it’s not the sort of movie that was ever going to set the box office on fire, and it has pulled in just 11 million during its three weeks of release. So it’s no surprise that United Artists will be sending the movie to PVOD on December 13th.
Bones and All is in good company, as IndieWire reports that major awards season contenders The Banshees of Inisherin and The Fabelmans (a box office failure directed by Steven Spielberg) will also be reaching PVOD on the same date.

Francesca Scorsese was cut from Luca Guadagnino’s film Bones and All, the director has revealed.
The recently released horror-romance stars Timothee Chalamet and Taylor Russell in a film adaptation of Camille De Angelis’s 2015 novel.
Bones and All was also supposed to feature Francesca Scorsese, daughter of Martin Scorsese, before her role as Harmony was cut.
Scorsese, 23, addressed her absence from the film, sharing a post on her Instagram story: “Rip Harmony lol.”
It appears there are no hard feelings, however, with Scorsese writing: “For those asking, Harmony is no longer in the film, she had fun though!!”
The actor accompanied her post with what appears to be stills from her deleted scenes, in which she is seen in character in a car with Russell and Chalamet.
Scorsese previously worked with Guadagnino on the 2020 HBO series We Are Who We Are.
Bones and All has received favourable reviews from critics and viewers.
